I'm running OSX 10.6.8. I have final cut studio 6.0.6. The compressor aps won't load. I get a compressor not loaded properly pop-up. I have tried reloading but still no compressor.

Start by repairing permissions. Then remove Compressor using this utility:
FCS Remover - Uninstall Final Cut Studio, Final Cut Pro, Motion, Compressor, Soundtrack Pro, Color, DVD Studio Pro, LiveType, Cinema Tools
Then reinstall and try to load Compressor. If it fails, post the error statements here.
Good luck

Forgot to mention, although it will install it isn't officially supported by Apple anymore. Just in case someone jumps in to point it out.

  • Does CC 2014 eliminate the need to have Final Cut Pro and/or Compressor installed to access Apple ProRes 422?

    Hello:
Just today, I was working on a Mac system that does not have any of the applications that I would have expected to need to have installed in order to do more than just decompress movie files compressed with Apple ProRes 422.
I was expecting to have to install Final Cut Studio 3, Final Cut Pro X, Compressor 4, and/or QuickTime 7 with the QuickTime Pro key; however, none of those applications are installed and I am able to create custom QuickTime Apple Pro Res422 Sequences in Premiere Pro as well as export using Apple ProRes 422.  After Effects and Adobe Media Encoder also show all the Apple ProRes variations.
Does CC 2014 eliminate the need to have Final Cut Pro and/or Compressor installed to access Apple ProRes 422?  Is it something happening on the OS or QuickTime level that would affect CC or CS6 in the same way?
I've done a web search, but haven't really come up with anything other than older articles about needing to have FCP installed (and I typically work on systems with Final Cut Studio 3 installed as well as CS6, CC, or CC 2014).  If more detailed information is available, it would be great to be able to read up on it.
The system is a 21.5-inch iMac running Mac OS X 10.8.5, QuickTime Player 10.2, and Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014 (8.0.0 - I know an update is available for PrPro, but it's not my system to make that change).
    Thanks in advance,
    Warren Heaton

    Hi Emil:
I use ProRes all the time as well, but I have Final Cut Studio on my workstations.
I had not come across MindPower009's YouTube video.  That explains how ProRes could be showing up without FCP or Compressor.
So, the answer to my question would be, "No, CC 2014 does not eliminate the need to have Final Cut Pro and/or Compressor installed to access Apple ProRes 422; however, if you are willing to be in violation Apple's terms of use, you can install the ProRes codecs anyway."
Even though MindPower009's YouTube video comments claim "FREE and LEGAL", it's clear from both the Apple download page and the ProRes codecs installer that Apple expects you to own at least one of their applications.
    Thanks again for the link!

  • MacBook Pro will not load Final Cut Studio 2 Install disc?!

So, this is the first time in all my years as a Mac user that I haven't been able to find info online about a problem I'm having with my machine.
Firstly, I've never had optical drive issues. Secondly, all other disks I try are still loading and playing perfectly (including other disks in the FCS2 box, e.g. the tutorials).
BUT when I insert the Final Cut Studio 2 Install disc, the drive sounds like it's trying to load the disc over and over, but it never gets spinning properly. The disc doesn't appear in my finder and after about 30 seconds my MacBook just spits it back out.
I've restarted, I've closed all other apps etc. but nothing helps.
Also, this same disc works fine in my parents' 17" MacBook Pro...
Please someone tell me what the **** is going on
    Message was edited by: JesseMcC

You have probably already done it but ensure you have updated the OS and Quicktime prior to attempting to instal Final Cut Studio.
I recently had a hard drive crash and after installing the new hard drive it would not read the OS installation disc. I ended up using an external drive case and installed the OS on the drive from a different Mac Book, then reinstalled the hard drive in the other Mac Book. Then it booted right up. I updated all the original software before attempting to install any additional software.
Everyone kept saying it wouldn't install due a possibly defective optical drive and I can't say why but it wasn't the drive. As soon as I had the system up and running again the optical drive functioned flawlessly.
    I hope this helps you.

  • Final Cut Studio 2 and External NTSC monitor

    Hello.
I just purchased the imace 20" 2.4 machine. It's still in the box as I'm getting all my old files off my pc (last one, this makes me all mac!).
My question is this. I have final cut studio 2. What I want to do i use the mini-dvi output to go to an NTSC monitor for final Cut playback.
I haven't been able to find a solid answer on this. I know I can get another external VGA/DVI monitor and it would be work, but I need to use an NTSC (4:3) monitor for some projects.
    Is this possible?
    Thanks!
    Bobby

Well, you can't use the file he sent unless you upgrade. But if you get the card dumps back, you should be able to LOG AND TRANSFER to ProRes on your system fine. Or was that the issue? They had garbage at the end?
Trashing preferences fixes a lot of FCP oddities.

  • MacBook Pro and Final Cut Studio 2

Hello, all. I currently have Final Cut Studio 1 (with Final Cut Pro 5, DVD Studio Pro 4, Motion 2, LiveType 2, Soundtrack Pro, and Compressor 2). I have an old PowerMac G4 from 2003, which Motion doesn't work on (and DVD Studio Pro doesn't run so great on, either - I haven't worked with Soundtrack Pro, LiveType, or Compressor too much). I'm thinking about buying a new MacBook Pro, and I'm wondering if all of FCS 1 (and especially Motion) would work on either the 13" or 15" models.
If I got a 13", here would be the specs:
    2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    8GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB
    250GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm
    SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
    NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics
If I got a 15", here would be the specs:
    3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    8GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB
    500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm
    SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
    NVIDIA GeForce 9400M + 9600M GT with 512MB
Anyone have any experience with running an older version of FCS - or even FCS 1 - on a setup like the ones I described above?
    Thanks, everyone,
    Kevin

Short answer: 13", no, 15", yes

  • Canon FS11, FS10, FS100 and Final Cut Studio 2

I was wondering if anyone has tried downloading footage from the Canon FS10 or FS11 into Final Cut Pro 6? They use flash memory SDHC cards. They are the standard definition versions of the Canon HF 10 and 100.
I know they are not listed as compatible, but thought since they are using SDHC cards that maybe they do work. I have read in the forum discussions that people who have the Canon FS10 and 11 and are able to edit the footage easily with iMovie 08.
Does anyone know if iMovie is able to read the footage from the F11's flashdrive, does that mean Final Cut Pro 6 will do it as well or not necessarily? I would like to use my Final Cut Studio 2 to edit the footage.
Has anyone tried these out with any success?
If so what did you think of the cameras as a whole. There is not much out there about them yet.
    Thanks!

+"Does anyone know if iMovie is able to read the footage from the F11's flashdrive, does that mean Final Cut Pro 6 will do it as well or not necessarily? I would like to use my Final Cut Studio 2 to edit the footage."+
iMovie and Final Cut Pro 6 could very well differ in the types of footage, they can read. If say, you had updated iMovie recently to the newest version it could have had increased capability in reading from a SDHC card. Also I use Final Cut Studio (5.1.4) and it seems to read just about any type of camera I hook up to it so I don't see why Final Cut Pro 6 wouldn't read this card, have you tried other cards? But yes, Final Cut Pro should be able to do anything that iMovie is able to do compatibility wise, unless iMovie is newer then your Final Cut version.
+"what did you think of the cameras as a whole"+
if you are referring to Canon cameras, then I have used a wide variety of them including the GL2 which I thought was a fabulous camera. Canon, in my opinion, is the best type of cameras you can find on the market and available to the general public.
    Hope this helps,

  • Firewire and final cut studio 2 question

I just got a Macbook Pro and I'm loving it! I also have Final Cut Studio 2 and i'm anxious to start playing. my question is about what type of firewire i need to get to capture video from my Canon hv20 camcorder. which is better, a 4-pin or a 6-pin? I see from a previous post that the 6-pin can supply the camera with power. I'm not so concerned about that, I'm just wondering what are the other important differences (if any) between 4 pin and 6 pin? differences in speed? vid quality? and if i decide to buy an external hard drive to keep my video files on, does that change my decision? thanks for any advice/answers!

+"I'm just wondering what are the other important differences (if any) between 4 pin and 6 pin?"+
Just two wires that carry power. A 4 pin connecter is a differnt shape to a 6 pin and are not interchangeable. All miniDV cqameras use a 4 pin system.
    +"differences in speed? vid quality?"+
    No different.
+"and if i decide to buy an external hard drive to keep my video files on, does that change my decision? thanks for any advice/answers!"+
Not at all. An external drive will require a 6 pin cable.
From camera to external 4-6 pin.
From external to Mac 6-6 pin.
This info assumes you are using firewire 400. Some Macs have firewire 800 which requires a different cable to the 6 pin.

  • G4 and Final Cut Studio 2?

I'm running a dual 1GHz power pc G4. Thinking about installing Leopard and Final Cut Studio 2. I'm editing DV not HD. Is my G4 going to handle? Or, should I think again?
    Thanks,
    m

Don't do it. You will hose yourself big time like I did. Final Cut Studio 2 requires a processor speed of 1.25GHz or faster. It does not care thet you have a dual 1GHz. I have a Dual 1GHz G4 as well and FCS2 would not work. I had to uninstall it and start over by installing my first version of FCP and all of the upgrades to get it back to 5.1.2.
    Hope it's not to late.

  • Final cut studio and macbook pro

hi i have final cut studio 2 currently installed on my imac, and it kinda slows my general use of the computer
i bought a new macbook pro (the new one with aluminum casing), but its only the base, and i have not upgraded it in any way, so it is as it comes
and basically i was wondering, if i installed the entire final cut studio 2 (and aperture), how would it affect the general speed of the machine when doing other general tasks not FCS related:
    a) while FCS is running
and b) while it is not running
i also want to run games off of my MBP so i really dont want to compromise speed

It needs to be filled with RAM, and when running Pro Apps, in the faster graphics processor mode. Mail, etc. will likely run fine along side them. I'd not play games when rendering though.
When they don't run, they don't affect anything but disk space 60 gigs for it all including Templates... RAM is the key to running multiple apps on any given Mac.
Nice Mac too. I just saw one the other day for the first time. I love that new trackpad the most. It's likely a lot faster than my 2.3 laptop, and I can run all the apps at the same time no problem with it. But ya need to fill up the RAM. I like that it's so green.

  • Final Cut Studio 3 and current Apple laptops

I currently have Final Cut Studio 3, installed on a desktop setup.
My old 15-inch MacBook Pro (MBP) died on me a few months ago. Since that time, I had to stop doing any mobile editing or other mobile computing. I currently use my desktop machine for everything, but I'm thinking about getting a new MBP down the road. I used to run Final Cut Studio 3 on my old MBP.
Can any of the new MBPs run the latest Final Cut Studio 3? Are the built-in graphics circuits up to handling FCP, or are they limited to just certain models now?
Currently, I use a tape-based cam (HDV), but I would like to eventually move to the newer tapeless HD systems.

    >Can any of the new MBPs run the latest Final Cut Studio 3?
YES.  I have it running on a min-2012 MacBook Pro...the latest model of non-retina macbook pro. It runs fine.
    >Are the built-in graphics circuits up to handling FCP, or are they limited to just certain models now?
The graphics card doesn't really matter to FCP...it's MOTION and COLOR where it mattered. And it works, but it doesn't boost any performance.

  • Final Cut Studio 6 and Sony Deck HVRM15U

Is Final Cut Studio 6 compatible with the Sony HVRM15U deck. NTSC Format connecting to Mac with Firewire and recording back to tape from Final Cut.

I bought the HVR-M15U Deck last week but I am having difficulty understanding the Menu settings. I intend to transfer HDV video (mini-DV tape) from the deck to FCP and then from FCP out to the Deck on a full size DV tape. I have connected firewire directly to the computer (no 3rd party capture card) and FCP tells me that my device capture pre-sets are wrong. I used Easy Set-up for HDV. Is there something I need to do with the Deck's menu setting so that I match up with FCP? Also I tried capturing from the deck to imove 08. imovie does control the deck but I get no image in the imovie capture screen on import. Anyone used the deck with imovie 08?

  • Running Final Cut Studio

Since Final Cut Studio was released before the advent of Intel Macs and was not designed to be Universal, is it true that it cannot run as fast as on a PowerPC Mac, other things being equal?

Final Cut Studio is not compatible with integrated Intel graphics processors, so no, it won't work on a Mac mini, at least not fully (some components of FCS may work, but it won't be supported by Apple). You'll want an iMac or a Mac Pro, if you're looking at new systems (if you're doing pro-type work, particularly HD, I'd strongly suggest a Mac Pro), or otherwise a system that meets the system requirements:
    http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/specs/
If you're looking to buy a new system and don't need one today, I'd suggest waiting a few weeks. Though we can't say for certain when new systems will be released, the current Mac minis, iMacs and Mac Pros are getting "long in the tooth".
    Regards.

  • Error installing Final Cut Studio and iLife on Leopard

When I upgraded to Leopard, I decided to entirely wipe my boot drive since I was experiencing problems with certain applications (ie: Final Cut Pro) in Tiger. Therefore I've been re-installing all of my applications in Leopard. I've been having some problems though, when I try to install Final Cut Studio, I get this message after a while of it trying to install the Apple Soundtrack Pro loops disc:
    http://salsunproductions.com/misc/fcsinstallproblem.jpg
I also get a similar error when trying to install iLife 06.
The strange thing is that I am able to run the Applications fine with the exception that all my Final Cut Studio applications don't remember their serial number and my name/organization. I get this message every time I boot up a Final Cut Studio Application (this is the original Final Cut Studio, PPC)

    As for the registration problem:

As for the disc install, if you're sure you're disc isn't just scratched, then I guess there's nothing to do but wait for 10.5.1 and see what happens.

  • Final Cut Studio and Snow Leopard

Does anyone know if the Grand Central Dispatch ability has been programmed into Final Cut Studio for activation after the release of Snow Leopard on 8/28?

    >Those dimensions didn't come from DV. Nor did the codec. The provenance of the material seems very murkey.
    That's most likely JVC's HDV flavor...it's 720p, and HDV is MPEG-2.
Yeah, that's a big issue hitting a lot of people who captured HDV, and then upgraded to LION.  The files were unreadable...
