Check the connection settings.

If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then select "No Proxy" if the default "Use the system proxy settings" setting doesn't work.

Please update Firefox to the latest version via "Help > Check for Updates or Help > About Firefox"<br />
The Firefox 3.5.5 version that you use is no longer maintained with security and stability updates.<br />
Using unsupported Firefox versions is at your own risk and makes you vulnerable to attacks.<br />
Users of no longer supported Firefox versions are strongly recommended to update to the latest release that is supported by their system.

Can't access the web on lap. It's networked form main computer. The problem started just after I downloaded/updated to Firefox 3.6.6. That may be a coincidence. I get "The proxy server is refusing connections". Restarts don't help. My main computer is fine. I didn't update it.

Check your proxy / network setting in Windows and change it to No Proxy, if you don't use a proxy.

I have called COMCAST, my internet service provider and they said there is nothing they can do for me.
I would appreciate an answer to this problemThe default "Use the system proxy settings" setting doesn't always work properly on Windows XP and in such a case it is better to select "No proxy".

I am attempting to connect my laptop to my home network. The internet connection works (I loaded up cmd and pinged yahoo with good results). But it is telling me that "Firefox is configured to use a proxy server that is refusing connections."
In Firefox 3.6.4 and later the default connection settings have been changed to "Use the system proxy settings".

I have a computer running Vista home premiun, it belongs to a co worker with teens, he asked me to check it out because it was not working correctly, I found several issues including a lack of microsoft updates (140 +) and a response to a question about defragging as "what???". I have now uploaded all current microsoft updates, and gone thru and remove all extras. I also loaded Secunia PSI, and scanned a number of times to ensure that everything loaded is up to date. I pretty much run all the same software on my own computers (3) and have neer encountered any issue.
Please try to set Firefox to use '''no proxy''' - [[Options window - Advanced panel#w_connection]] explains how.

Not related to your question, but...
It is important that you keep IE updated. The information included with your question, indicates that you are using IE7; you should update to IE8 for your own protection. IE9 will not be made available for Windows XP.

Firefox says my proxy server is refusing connections, but other browsers are working.
I was using Firefox one day when the following message was shown: "The proxy server is refusing connections
Firefox is configured to use a proxy server that is refusing connections.
* Check the proxy settings to make sure that they are correct.
* Contact your network administrator to make sure the proxy server is
working."
I checked with my network administrator and he said that everthing was fine. I started using Internet Explorer and everything is working. I don't think this is a problem with my server. In Firefox 3.6.4 and later the default connection settings have been changed to "Use the system proxy settings".<br />

I am working on an HP Compaq laptop using a wi-fi connection to o2 broadband.

When I click onto the "Read Full Article..." tab I go to the Mozilla Firefox page which says there is a problem loading page - Mozilla Firefox, and then get the "The proxy server is refusing connections" and the o2 Broadband assistant then kicks in and starts trying to find the connections even though o2 broadband is connected.

Consistant error message, "The proxy server is refusing connections" What to do now?
"The proxy server is refusing connections"
I believe the update caused this error EVERYTIME I open up firefox. I already know how to disable it since I looked it up. I went to Tools> Options> Advance> Network> Settings> and then the four options including "No proxy" which I've chosen so far. I have tried all four options (except manual, because this causes the error), and every one, but manual, solves it. But my real problem is that every time I close and open up firefox again, the option resets back to "Manual proxy configuration" and I have to choose "no proxy" again.
I opened up Safari to see if it works, and it does work. I think only firefox is affected with the error. I also tried re-installing firefox but didn't work.Well, the problem is no longer there.. I don't know what I did, and I don't even think I did anything after giving up and waiting for an answer. But here's what is on user file: user_pref("yahoo.homepage.dontask", true);user_pref("network.protocol-handler.warn-external.dnupdate", false);"
Now I have a different problem.. My firefox no longer looks like the way I customized it before. It's bare and minimal.. not too sure if this is the default look, but that doesn't bother me much. The prob is after that changed, I can't seem to view youtube or dailymotion videos anymore on firefox. Video viewing is working on Google Chrome, however. It asked me to update my adobe flash player to view, but I already did. What should I call my previous problem? And should I post this new problem in a different thread? -
My web proider is Verizon Fios. I've contacted Verizon 4 times about this. I was instructed to delete Firefox and then download again. It didn't help. I'm able to get to your main window. Then, when I try to go to any website, the following window comes up: "The proxy server is refusing connections. Firefox is configured to use a proxy server that is refusing connections. It tells me to "Check the proxy settings to make sure that they are correct." I tried that w/ my Verizon support person but how is one to know what "settings" are "correct"? Finally the window instructs: "Contact your network administrator to make sure the proxy server is working." Who would my "network administrator" be? It wasn't Verizon as they told me they don't support Mozilla.

As I said in the question when I click on the firefox link on the desktop this is what comes up (THE PROXY SERVER IS REFUSING CONNECTIONS Firefox is configured to use a proxy server that is refusing connections) but I can get connected through Internet Explorer. I have uninstalled firefox and reinstalled firefox with no difference.
I tried all that stuff and none of it helped. I can't load any of the google applications in firefox now. They pop up with this screen.
This Connection is Untrusted
You have asked Firefox to connect securely to mail.google.com, but we can't confirm that your connection is secure.
Normally, when you try to connect securely, sites will present trusted identification to prove that you are going to the right place. However, this site's identity can't be verified.
What Should I Do?
If you usually connect to this site without problems, this error could mean that someone is trying to impersonate the site, and you shouldn't continue.
mail.google.com uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is not trusted because it was issued by an invalid CA certificate. (Error code: sec_error_inadequate_key_usage)
Now I tried a couple of other sites and they all seemed to work okay, and if necessary I could click understand the risks and still access the site, but no go with google. Considering I use my google account for my calendar and gmail a lot, I am highly disappointed with this new update. I hate using IE and really prefer to use Firefox. -
Firefox will not open. it says to proxy server is refusing connections. please advise
firefox will not open. the window says that the proxy server is refusing connections.
go to '''TOOLS''' then '''OPTIONS''' then '''ADVANCED''' then '''NETWORK''' tab then '''SETTINGS''' tab and '''select the options NO PROXY''' click '''OK''' and '''OK''' again in the next screen. With that you have disabled the proxy settings.
if you like to '''not''' disable the proxy settings choose :
'''Auto-detect proxy settings for this network'''
thank you
