I reset my iPhone 4S and when it restarted it said I couldn't activate it without the original Apple ID it was activated with. if I take it to the apple store what will they do?

It sounds like you may have triggered activation lock. If that is the case they will ask you for your ID and password and when you cannot give it to them they will say sorry they cannot help you. It's a new feature to deter thieves (makes stolen devices useless) but it means you now have to be very diligent about knowing your login information.

The steps detailed below can help stabilize your iPhone.
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If you are referring to the speaker(s) along the bottom edge, there is one speaker, one microphone.

Would like to use an alarm clock. I need the alarm clock to function from the sleep mode. A review said that MAC products will not allow a program to wake up a Mac. Is this correct ? Are there any products in the Mac store what will function from the sleep mode ? How do I check this out ?
You can set times for your computer to turn on or wake from sleep in the Energy Saver system preference pane using the Schedule... button.

I upgraded my old iphone 4s to an iPhone 6+ last Sunday (12/28). I've been trying to restore my settings and whatnot thru the icloud restore, and have been unsuccessful. What you're describing is the Finder window for your external hard drive. When you're in iPhoto and try to edit a photo what happens?
Are you saying that the photos for your iPhoto library are located on the external HD while your library is in the Pictures folder on the boot drive? That would indicate a referenced library. You can check to see if you're running a referenced library by checking the Advanced Preference pane in iPhoto:

Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
If after reboot that doesn't help...
Open Console in Applications>Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
