This is the second macbook pro i have owned in the past two weeks. I am ready to return it for good if this is a chronic issue. Please help if you have had this same issue.

I also have the exact same problem with my early 2008 Mac Pro. Last spring, the video card that came with the unit burned out. I brought it in to the Apple Store in my area, but they were unable to really help me out. I ended up replacing the card, but about two or three weeks ago I started having the same exact issue that you do - the Mac would suddenly die occasionally, and then would take quite a few tries to come back up. It seems that resetting the PRAM helps temporarily with me. It has been up since about 3 PM so far, and it is behaving.
My main issue is that replacement parts are expensive for this machine. If I were to replace the power supply and the logic board, Apple would charge me about a thousand bucks! That's simply too much money to drop on a 4 year old computer.
My solution is that I will run it for a while longer, and replace it with the Mac Mini with the ATI GPU. The Mini is about 85% as powerful according to Geekbench, and if it dies I will not be out more than a few hundred bucks.
I will be migrating all my OpenCL code to FreeBSD as well, because replacing a power supply or motherboard in a generic DIY PC is only a hundred or two dollars at the most.

When I start up my Mac Pro (2.66) it the light on the mac will turn on but there is no chime, no display. The second time I start up the Mac it chimes and the display runs up to the grey screen but then it pauses and a fan (don't know which one) goes mad. The third time I start up my mac it works. What can I do to avoid this process, so far I have reset the PRAM and the SMU - (by removing the wires and putting them back) please help!! - I really don't want to re-install everything!!!!!

Try the small round SMC button (remove drive tray #4 on the back to get to it). Use a non-conductive implement and hold in for 5 seconds. That does a better job than just unplugging or zapping PRAM.
Check what you have on the same circuit. The Mac Pro is sensitive to other equipment on same circuit or nearby. Consider getting a 1300VA UPS even.
You should have an alternate, emergency, boot drive or at the least clone or working bootable backup. And consider Disk Warrior 4.1 to repair your drives.
Try to isolate what other cables and equipment is attached as possible cause.

my iPod is I 5th generation. I forgot my passcode and typed in the wrong thing too many times, so now on the lock screen it says "connect to iTunes" I did all the steps your supposed to. I unplugged all cord from iPod connecting to my computer, I held the home button and plugged my iPod back in, and then I keep holding the home button until the iTunes sign showed up. I got to the right page and then clicked restore. A small window came up saying " restore and update" I clicked it, I agreed to the terms and agreements and the updating started. The updated finished with =out a problem. I t was when I clicked "restore " that I had a problem. The restoring lasted until I had about 10 or 11 minutes left. that is when I saw a alert of my screen saying "iTunes could not finish restoring,. an unknown error occurred. error code: 0xE8000065" I tried restoring and updating my iPod about three or four times now! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My mac pro keeps chimming when starting up my Mac Pro.

Over the weekend my Mac Pro has frozen several times. Now after the last time it froze, when I try to turn on my computer the monitor remains black and my computer keeps chiming every couple seconds. Almost like it is trying to start up but keeps resetting itself. I have tried starting up in safe mode but it does not work.

first you need to stop the hard crash on startup
While uising jorunaling should help, in some cases it isn't enough to just restart, you need to do check/repiar and safe boots as well as boot from backup clones. Each new release of OS X gets a little better. But if it happens a 2nd time:
hardware error - RAM, bad sectors, power supply, wall current (no electric heater on same circuit), bad USB cables etc etc
software - harder to say but corrupt files, drivers, cache, fonts, or corrupt cache files and folders
.... and that isn't a list but in general, there are faq for kernel panics, their cause and trial and error to resolve
depending on when and what OS it came with and any graphic card changes the OEM DVD may not work but 10.6.3 DVD would. But best is to already have bootable backups and emergency boot drive or partition.
Don't just keep working even if you think you must or safe to - take some action and help prevent it from happening again and picking up the pieces too.

When I external edit an aperture photo using Photoshop Elements 9 and then get out, the changes are not reflected in Aperture when I return - this used to work for me but doesn't seem to have for some time - help please?

workflow:
click photo and elect to use the external editor (Photoshop Elements 9)
Copy of the photo is created in Aperture with the "O" badge and I am rolled out to Photoshop
Have to change the type to 8-bit in Photoshop to start making changes
When done and I exit I am prompted to save the photo
On returning to Aperture however the "O" badged photo does not get updated/reflect my changes
Other Things:
I can find a changed photo sitting in the Aperture Library using finder or Photoshop itself - so I know changes have been made a new file saved (TIFF).
I am wondering if I am missing some (new) preference such that the changes are not proerly being saved for re-display/storage in the Aperture Library
I am running Lion OSX at the moment but the behaviour was the same under Snow Lepoard versions.
Current version of Aperture is 3.1.3, Elements is 9.0
Any help/suggestions greatfully received

Try using psd. Some rerports indicate some confustion between the apps with TIFF. See:

I followed the instructions I read in a post to shutdown IPad holding the sleep button down until red arrow appeared. The slide arrow and then restart with the sleep button. Well, now nothing happens when I press this button to start IPad.

I have two problems. The most pressing is that I was following a suggestion to restart my IPad by turning off, sliding red arrow, wait for Apple symbol. I now see the apple but alson the little marks that go around when it is working but they are frozen and my home key does not do anything and no icons appear.

I solved a similar issue, where some songs in my itunes library would play to some random point and then skip to the next song. It started when I replaced my computer, so I copied over my library to my new computer and went through installing and importing on my new machine. When I noticed this behavior for random songs, here's what I found.
The affected files were .m4p files I'd purchased from the itunes store. This had nothing to do with activating them with my Apple account, which I did. The easiest way I found to identify the affected files was to view all your music in itunes, right click on any of the column headers, and select 'kind' so that column shows. Then order your music by the 'kind' column, and scroll down until you reach the songs where kind = 'Protected AAC audio file' (not to be confused with Purchased AAC audio file, which were unaffected in my case). Highlight just those 'Protected AAC audio file' songs, copy them, and paste them in some temporary directory. Back in itunes, now delete these hightlighted songs (I chose to keep the files rather than permanently delete them, but I think either would work).
Before adding these songs back to your library, if you want them pulled into your library directory rather than left in temp, make sure in Edit > Preferences > Advanced > check off Copy files to itunes media folder when adding to library.
Then in itunes, click File > Add file to library > browse to your temp directory > select all files > and click Open to add these files back to your library. After that, all my previously disfunctional files exhibited normal playback.
I hope you find this before you waste many hours on this like I did.

When I'm in my email and want to go to a web site that is in my email. I will click on it's link to take me to that web site. When I do that firefox browser 4.0 will open once and then be hind it firefox opens a new browser for the same link. SO there are two browsers open to the same web site. What can I do? I know that if I uninstall it, it may delete all my info. Can anyone help with this problem?

Error 1604
This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode,put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.
