I stupidly deleted contacts on my Mac

I stupidly deleted my contacts on my Mac and it then synced over WiFi and deleted them from my iphone.  I restored the iphone from a back up.  The contacts then momentarily reappeared, then disappeared again.  I was stupidly trying to limit the amount of info stored unnecessarily on my computer.
Please help. How can I stop the sync and transfer the contacts to my mac from the iphone and not the other way around.
Matt
OSX 10.9.4 2.5GHz intel Core i7, iPhone 5s IOS 7.1.2

Thanks for this
So far i have done this:
Restore from the backup, with contacts.
As fast as you can
    Turn Off WiFi
Then turn off contacts in iCloud, keep a copy on the device.
When i turn the wifi on how do I then merge contacts?

  • I delete contacts on my mac, but they dont delete on my iphone or ipad, why? If I delete off the web server they then delete

I have icloud all logged in on my ipad, iphone and macbook pro.
When deleting contacts on any of the products they do not delete off the others.
They do delete off the iphone/ipad/macbook when deleting off the icloud webs server, but when adding someone to my phone I want it to delete off all the other products.
    Calendars all work.
    Just contacts is the issue.
    How can this be resolved?

    Have you emptied Trash?
When you delete data from a USB drive, you must empty Trash before you disconnect it from the MBP.
    Ciao.

  • How to delete contacts in skype 7.5 for Mac?

I cannot delete contact on skype for MAC. There are several posts marking this as resolved suggesting the following, none of which works:
    going to the "All" contact lists and pressing backspace:  absolutelty nothing happens;
    right-clicking the contact: there is no option to delete a contact, only to block;
    highlighting the contact and going to the Contacts menu item at the top of the screen: the delete contact option is there, but it is unaccessible (in light grey);
So, how can I delete a contact?

Regarding Mac contacts: that option is not possible on my skype. It is there, but in light grey, and it is not ticked (and I cannot tick it even if I want to). >> You say you haven't linked Facebook and Skype. Can you tell us if there is a "Facebook" item in the contact group list? In the sidebar choose "Contacts," then look at the bar below the toolbar and to the left of "Add Contact." There is no "Facebook" item in the contact group list. >> Have you tried deleting a contact using a different platform's Skype client? iOS or Android or Windows, for example? I do not have a Windows machine. In iOS for iPad I only had the "Block" option, no delete. I do not have it installed in Android, and do not want to do it. Best,

  • Deleting Contacts on phone (but keep them on my mac)

Is there a way to delete contacts on my iPhone but keep them on my Mac (Macbook Pro) or vise versa.  I use iCloud, so Im not sure.  Some people I no longer need to contact via phone, but would still like to keep their contact info, in case I ever need to contact them.

Drag them to your "on my mac' group in address book, contacts in this group won't sync with iCloud.
This user tip might help you understand how accounts work with Address Book.

  • Just got my first iPhone, an iPhone5. I added the contacts via my Mac, but the phone on its own added my 5000 Facebook friends as contacts and won't let me delete them. How can I delete them? Thanks.

I just got my first cell phone, an iPhone5.  I added my contacts via my Mac.  But the phone on its own imported the contact info of all 5000 of my Facebook "friends."  When I go to one of them, hit edit, and try to delete them, the phone tells me that I cannot delete a Facebook friend.  This is a nightmare.  Please, I beg you, tell me how I can get these Facebook friends off of my contacts list.  Thank you!

    Settings>Facebook>Contacts>Off.

  • I deleted my contacts on my Mac.

I deleted my contacts on my Mac to enable a new iphone to have a clean address book.  I didn't realize it would delete those contacts on my iPhone.  How can I recover those contacts so that they remain on my iPhone?

By deleting contacts that are in the "icloud" section of the contacts, you have deleted them from icloud.  Hence, if the phone syncs with icloud, they will be deleted from the phone.
If that happens the only way to get the contacts back is to restore the contact files from a backup of your MAC (look in Time Machine).  Backups on icloud do not include contacts, since contacts are already stored in their own icloud database, which unfortunately you deleted.

  • Delete iphone "on my mac" contacts

my iphone 4 is synced with iCloud, everytime i go into my contacts it shows a duplicate contact, apparently this is because it is in both "on my mac" and iCloud. How can i delete the "on my mac" section, as i only require the icloud version of any of them.

Ok thanks for the help, but i am still a little confused. when i go to preferances i can edit my accounts.  my bellsouth email is my apple id/icloud account, but i also have an icloud one that is my me.com address. they both have cantacts syncing.  which one should i uncheck?

  • I have a lot of old contacts I want to delete that are on all my devices. If I delete them on my iPad and then sync with my mac, will this delete the contacts on my mac too?

I have a lot of old contacts I want to delete that are on all my devices. If I delete them on my iPad and then sync with my mac, will this delete the contacts on my mac too? And then if I sync my iPhone with my mac will this delete the contacts on my iPhone?

    Yes.
If you don't want that to happen, then don't select the "Sync Contacts" option on your next sync.

  • Contacts - "On My Mac" and "iCloud" possible to sync?

Trying to sync contacts with my mac and my iOS devices through iCloud. It took me awhile to figure out what is actually happening here, even though it seems obvious now. Unfortunately I can find no way to do what I need.
Set up iCloud on iPad, iPhone, Safari on MacBook Pro, using fine. Noticed not all contacts syncing. Preferences on all devices say use iCloud, and use Mail and Contacts on all devices.
Finally noticed that on MacBook Pro Contacts, over on left page, at top left it says "All Contacts", under that "On my Mac", under that ""iCloud". Finally figured out that "On My Mac" contacts are separate from "iCloud" contacts (seems obvious). The contacts in "iCloud" are the only ones which sync with your iOS devices, and the MacBook Pro Mail program only adds contacts to "On My Mac" set. Yuck!
I can find no way to have contacts from Mail automatically add to the "iCloud" set of contacts instead of the "On My Mac" set. I cannot figure out how to get these contacts in the "On My Mac" set to sync to iCloud without some very fancy and complicated exporting, deleting, importing ALL contacts, and it is a lot easier just to type the contact info into a new card in the "iCloud" contact set, but I wish I could get iCloud to work automatically with Mail and "On My Mac" contacts, or find some setting or workaround so that I just don't even use or have the "On My Mac" contacts.
Does anyone know of some setting to allow me to use iCloud exclusively? That's why I want iCloud and Mac, to work together.
The way I often add contacts is:
In Safari, click an email link
In mail, a new email opens so I can send
click the triangle on the right end of the address in the "To" line
    a box appears
scroll down to the bottom, "Show Contact Card" (this used to automatically open the address book, but Mountain Lion unfortunately added a step here)
    A box appears
click upper right hand corner, "Open with Contacts"
    Edit card as needed
Note: this card appears with the "All Contacts" line highlighted on the left hand side of left page
It is also in "On My Mac" set
It is NOT in "iCloud" set, therefore will not sync with iOS devices
Anyone know how to get Mail to put its created contacts into iCloud to start with?

    Hi Virginia,
Try setting up your iCloud account in the Contacts preferences. Contacts>Preferences>Accounts:
Click the "+" to add your iCloud account, and when you get to this screen:
In the "Account Type" field, use the dropdown to select iCloud, then add your iCloud sign-on info.
Don't know if this will work, but my Contacts book only has "All Contacts" listed on the left-hand page - there is no "On My Mac" or "On iCloud" listed at all....
    Hope this helps!
    Cheers,

How can i delete my old account .mac since i have iCloud on my account on my iPhone 4s
On my Mail, contacts and calendar in thesystem preferences

There should be a small + and - in the bottom left cornet of the system preference window. Make sure it's the account you want to delete that is highlighted before clicking on the - button.

i accidentally deleted iPhoto on my mac and it says the the app was downloaded with a different apple id and now i can't get the app back without paying $14.99

Did you install it yourself are somebody else for you?
If you installed them yourself, but do not remember which AppleID you used, try all AppleIDs you might have used in turn.
If somene else set up your Mac for you, ask the person to reinstall it. If you bought the mac second hand, the previous owner needs to contact Apple to transfer the iLife apps. If that is not possible, delete the apps that you cannot update and buy them using your AppleID.

  • How do I delete Kaspersky Security for Mac

I have tried to delete Kaspersky Security for Mac many times but the icon still comes up to tell me to renew. How do I delete the icon and the program?

You can contact Kaspersky support for uninstall issues here.
Anti virus software is invasive and difficult to remove. If you can't resolve the problem directly from Kaspersky, backup all important data then reformat the disk and reinstall OS X.
For v10.7 Lion, v10.8 Mountain Lion, or v10.9 Mavericks:  Startup your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys. From there you should be able to access the built in utilities to reformat the disk and reinstall OS X.
For OS X prior to v10.7, startup from your install disc while holding down the C key.

  • How do I get my contacts from my mac to my phone?

My contacts recently deleted for no reason on my phone. They are on my Contacts in my laptop though. How do I sync the contacts to end up on my phone?

Set up the same iCloud account on both devices and activate Contacts (Mac: "System Preferences > iCloud" and iPhone: "Settings > iCloud"). Make sure that your contacts on your Mac are stored in iCloud and not in the local address book. If this is the case, then just copy them from the local address book to the iCloud address book.

  • I accidently deleted some contacts that I need.  I still have them on my IPAD because I disabled my contacts in icloud. Is there a way to reload these deleted contacts using my IPAD and icloud?

I accidently deleted some contacts that I still need.  Because of Icloud they are now deleted on all my devices such as my Iphone and PC (outlook).  I still have them on my IPAD because I disabled my contacts on Icloud on my IPAD.  Is there a way to reload these contacts from my IPAD back to my Iphone and PC using Icloud?  Thank you.

    Hi mth3333,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
You can sync the contacts on your iPad with your computer. See this article for the steps:
iOS: How to transfer or sync content to your computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1296
    Contacts
To sync contacts with your computer, choose "Sync Contacts with" within iTunes for Windows, or "Sync Address Book Contacts" on your Mac.
You can sync your contacts with:
Microsoft Outlook 2003, Microsoft Outlook 2007, Microsoft Outlook 2010 (Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7)
    Windows Address Book (Windows XP)
Windows Contacts (Windows Vista / Windows 7)
    Address Book (Mac OS X)
Microsoft Entourage 2004, Microsoft Entourage 2008, or Microsoft Outlook 2011 for Mac
Note: If using Microsoft Entourage, use Microsoft Entourage 2008 12.1.2 or later if syncing with Mac OS X v10.6 or later. If you would like to sync data on your Mac with Entourage, enable syncing between Entourage and Address Book.
    Notes:
When syncing contacts, you can choose to sync all of your contacts or only selected groups. The option to sync selected items may not show up until after the first sync.
You can select a group of contacts to which all new contacts created on your iOS device will be added.
    Regards,
    Jeremy
