Back up your documents and everything else important to you, not that there is any reason to believe your hard disk may be failing, but the symptoms you describe may presage an impending disk failure, and you should have backups anyway.
To help determine the possible causes of this behaviour read the following. None of what follows is intended to fix anything, but it will provide the additional information required to advance troubleshooting:
Boot OS X Recovery by holding ⌘ and r (two fingers) while you start your Mac. At the Mac OS X Utilities screen, select Disk Utility. Select your startup volume (usually named "Macintosh HD") and click the Repair Disk button. Describe any errors it reports in red.
When it finishes restart your Mac and test again for operation. If it's still not behaving as you expect it should, please post the results of EtreCheck in accordance with the following instructions:

EtreCheck was designed to remove any personal information (such as your computer's name and serial numbers) but if you see anything that looks like an email address or any other personal information that should not be divulged to others, please delete or obscure that information when you post the reply.
When you are finished with EtreCheck, quit the program. It occupies very little space, and you can keep it or drag it to the Trash as you wish.
After completing the above please determine if the problems also occur in "Safe Mode":
Safe Mode or "Safe Boot" is a troubleshooting mode that bypasses all third party system extensions and loads only required system components. Read about it: Starting up in Safe Mode
You must disable FileVault before you can start your Mac in Safe Mode.
Starting your Mac in Safe Mode will take longer than usual, graphics will not render smoothly, audio is disabled on some Macs, and some programs (iTunes for example) may not work at all.
Merely starting your Mac in Safe Mode is not intended to resolve the problem, it's to observe its performance without certain additional components.
To end Safe Mode restart your Mac normally. Shutdown will take longer as well.

Update on my problem connecting in Itunes with my Airport Express. Not sure if anything I tried made a difference

I plugged in my iPod and it asked if I wanted to update it and I did. After that none of my songs would appear on my iPod, but itunes showed in the left pane that everything was on it. I read another topic with the same problem and I think I need to update my itunes software..however..it won't update because it says I need XP or Vista...I have 2000. That's the kind of solution I'm interested in, Farias. Who does apple think they are to have me update my iPod and THEN tell me AFTER THE FACT that I need to purchase a new $50 OS if I want to continue using. And when they keep asking me if I want to update they need to give me a link with information about the update so that I fully understand what I'm getting, therefore I'll be absolutely certain whether I want to update at all. This is my second iPod so I've spent well over $450 on them with the iPod and the songs I've purchased from iTunes...I don't just have $50 dollars to go and buy XP because they're under a "contract"...I didn't get any kind of newsletter informing me of that. Ah, thanks for the correction Terence.
I didn't realise the earlier versions still worked. I know that when I upgraded to Mavericks I then had to upgrade from iPhoto 9.4.3 to 9.5 in order for it to work. I guess we need to know which version Ibarber4 is currently having problems with.

Verify the configuration for sending mail - SMTP server address and your server password. If they are correct, but you still cannot send email, then delete your mail account and re-create anew.

I don't know if anyone else has had this problem but ever since I updated to iOS6 on my iPhone 4S the App Store won't search. It's showing all the featured apps and charts and everything but it won't search.
I've sent emails to apple techs but all they do is refer me to the FAQ site or troubleshooting site.

The same for me: iphone 3gs with itunes 10.5 (on OSX Lion). Connecting the iphone the software hangs until I disconnect the iphone. I tried to wait even 30 minutes but nothing changes. Either I force iTunes to quit or I disconnect the iphone and iTunes goes on working correctly. I updated the software with the latest version, restart both iPhone (pressing both buttons) and my iMac. I also reinstalled iTunes. Nothing has changed.
Hope and wait for a solution...
