I want to create a formula in numbers that gives me an ongoing monthly average

I've created a spreadsheet to track my MPG, and I'm also logging all maintenance bills too.
What I want to do, is get an idea of how much the vehicle is costing me on a monthly average. I want this to be ongoing over several years and therefore want the spreadsheet to work out the monthly average cost over the life of the vehicle.
How would I write a formula to do this without having to manually adjust the formula each month?

Ahhh.  OK.  you want to see an average that is only for one months data out of a list of entries,
E2=EOMONTH(A2, 0)
this is shorthand for... select cell E2, then type (or copy and paste from here) the formula:
=EOMONTH(A2, 0)
F2=EDATE(EOMONTH(A2,0)+"1d", −1)
D2=IF(MONTH(A2)≠MONTH(A3), AVERAGEIFS(C,A,"<="&E2, A, ">="&F2), "")
select cells D2 the F2, copy
select cells D2 thru F8, paste
once you are done you can combine the formulas for columns E and F into column D.... or... you can hide columns E and F

    compare each date entry with today's date
    The TODAY function will automatically update as your time zone crosses midnight.
    Here is a single-cell table to use as a reference (or you could place this somewhere in a larger table)
    =TODAY()
    Calculating days until a task must be done
    C2 (and Fill Down)
    =DATEDIF(Today::A$1,B2,"D")

    These are elementary streams and they would be used by DVD authoring apps that use them for reasons like foreign language capability. Examples would be DVD Studio Pro, Adobe Encore, Toast.
    The most straightforward way to burn your DVD is either to use the Share feature in FCP or the Batch Template feature in Compressor.
    If you can find a boxed copy of iLife (try Amazon), it should have iDVD as part of the suite of apps. iDVD offers far more complete authoring capability than FCP or C4. iDVD  doesn't work with elementary streams; you'd just drag in your HD movie and you'd be good to go.

      You can write at line-selection one time only.
      After that depending upon the system field you can get the reports.
    For example , the sample code will be like this,

    Hi,
    I already developed this kind of customization. The system offered the possibility to clic on a cell (Project Center, or My Task, or Timesheet), to input a value to store in a custom field, or in a database.
    After clicking, a Popup with different textbox, etc...is displayed:  it is possible to put values, comments, or whatever.
    The benefits is that with this method, you don't have to redevelop the complete timesheet grid, which would be really complex.
    Instead of that, you develop a part of javascript code, which displays a popup containing asp.net code. From the aspx page, you can make what you want: modifying the value of an task/assignment customfield for exemple.
    To start, you can search for the Project Server 2010 SDK, Customize Project Center: it would be a good start point.
    In case of big difficulty, ask again here, and we could get in touch to give more explanations.

    I need each answer to have a value and at the end a score to be provided.
    I can do this with Google Forms but not display the answer.  I have seen this form in action so I know this works, I just want to know how to do it.

  • Is there a way to create a calendar for keynote that automatically updates to current month?

    I use keynote presentations for teaching foreign languages and wanted a calendar that updates automatically to current month everytime I present it rather than making it manually each month.  I'm wondering if it can be done using the keynote date/time functions?  Thank you.

    Creating a whole interactive calendar for a month in a table could be done I suppose, but it's an awful lot of work for something that might be solved more easily in other ways.
    IF you have a constant internet connection when you're teaching, create a Hyperlink on a blank Keynote slide to a web calendar, such as Google Calendar (or perhaps a school district calendar?) and enable it in the slide with Inspector, Hyperlink (blue circle with arrow icon 2nd from the right).
    If you don't have web access on your teaching computer while you're teaching, I'd still probably capture a screenshot of the each monthly calendar and use that, updating to the current slide once a month. If you're usually too busy to remember to capture a new calendar on the first of the month, create a whole year of screen captured calendars at one time, add them to separate Keynote slides, and then just 'Skip Slide' all the months you aren't using. Not cool and interactive, but it would solve the problem. You might want to rename the screen captures to the month name before adding them as slides for ease of locating them later.
    Since you're teaching foreign languages, in my sample below, I changed my default Google Calendar language to German. (Unfortunately, I left US Holidays enabled, so they aren't 'auf Deutsch', but you get the idea.) Understand that when you switch language in Google Calendar (or other Google app), it will switch ALL of your Google screens to that language, so be sure you remember which 'buttons' to push to change it back to English later!
    Bring up your calendar onscreen in your browser and use Command+Shift+3 to capture the whole screen or Command+Shift+4 to capture just a portion of the screen. Once saved, insert the saved calendar into a Keynote slide.
    Now, if that's more than you need, if you just want to display the date information in English as current weekday name, monthname, date number, and year, that's pretty simple.
    Use the now() or today() function, you can create a simple table and add the following functions in separate cells, beginning each cell entry with the = sign (so the table 'knows' it's a function, and not just text:
    =DAYNAME(NOW())
    =MONTHNAME(MONTH(NOW()))
    =DAY(NOW())
    =YEAR(NOW())
    And it displays like this on a slide:

    Well, to begin with, if John checked out on December 1, he didn't stay any nights in November.
    The formula is is bit involved due to the rate change. The version below handles this with a pair of IF statements that check to see if check in and check out occur in the same month.
    If not, the first calculates the charges for the number of nights stayed in the check in month, and the second calculates the charges for the number of days stayed in the check out month. (E2)
    If check in and check out occur in the same month, then the first calculates the charges for that month, and the second returns a null string ( "" ). (F2)
    The results of these calculations, and the fixed booking fee (included in the formula, not gathered from Table 1), are summed in the next cell. (G2)
    Formulas:
    All are in Table 2, and are filled down their respective columns after being entered in the indicated cell.

    Note:In the present form, the formulas will correctly handle checkin/checkout dates in the same month or in two consecutive months (eg. November/December, December/January, etc.) but are not capable of determining the correct date for the rate change where the stay extends across two month ends.
    The formulas could be combined by substituting the first and second (without their = signs) into the third, replacing "E2" and "F2" respectively. Writing them in that form originally makes for more chances to make an error, and makes the whole formula more difficult to read.
    Details on each of the functions used may be found in the iWork Formulas and Functions User Guide, which you may download via the Help menu in Numbers '09.

    As the title says- I'm not much of a formula wizard and any help would be appreciated. Here's an example-
    Student A receives a B, C, A, A, D, A for 6 assignments. I want them to average out at the end of the row, as well as an average on a separate page of summaries for all subjects that are assessed this way.
    Ive seen it on an excel spreadsheet but was unable to look at the formula.
    Please help as the semester starts in a week for us in Australia!

    Can you just use letters to make an average of the letter? 
    AVERAGE, which calculates the arithmetic mean of a set of values, works with numerical values.
    On your posted layout, you have a table showing the letter equivalent of a percentage score:
    A score under 40 = E
    A score 40 or higher, but under 50 = D
    A score 50 or higher, but under 65 = C
    A score 56 or higher, but under 85 = B
    A score 85 or higher = A
    Those numerical scores may be summed, averaged, and a letter grade assigned. With the specifications given in that table, the letter grade will not include a + or -.
    Your layout includes nine numerical scores for the first student (all of which are well under 40. My assumption here is that each is the student's score out of the number in the same column of row 3 (ie, the first, 13, is 13 out of 14, the second is 10 out of 16, etc,)
    This raises a question:
    Does each point noted contribute equally to the final average?
    Or
    Does each quiz/exercise contribute equally to the final average?
    For the letter grades to be averaged, you will need to set a specific numerical equivalent (not a range) for each letter grade.
    For the letter grades and number grades to be combined into a single final letter grade, the numerical equivalents noted above must be chosen with that goal in mind, OR the numerical scores must be converted into letter grades, then reconverted into specific numerical equivalents for each letter grade, inserted into the set of (converted) letter grades, averaged, then reconverted to the equivalent letter grade.
    As you can see, there are yet a few hurdles to overcome.

    I am trying to create a MAXIF formula, in order to determine the maximum value (max-values) in a range of values (test-values) that are associated with a certain category (condition).  The formula would be similar in concept to SUMIF or AVERAGEIF, except that the result is the maximum, rather than the sum or the average.     The problem started after I tried to paste the formula by dragging the formula from D into the next two columns E,F, in order to eliminate the need to manually enter a new formula for each "week."  But the formulas would not migrate the way I had hoped, and ended up with all zeros in columns where I tried to paste horizontally.

    After wrestling with the formula editor to try to get the paste to work, I gave up.  So, Unless you have another solution, the only thing I know to do is to ensure the weeks in my original table are sorted to ascend from 1 to 52, then select all the transactions associated with each week, then read off the maximum that pops up at the bottom, and then manually enter week's maximum into a new table. But in the end both solutions seem a lot of work. The elegant "sort by category" option from Numbers '09 would do all this in seconds. Why did Apple remove it?

    I need to apply a cost per square inch on art work. The cost/sq in decreases in increments as the total area increases. Is it possible to have a formula recognize the category of a particular area and apply the appropriate cost per square inch?

    Would something like this work? The bottom table (Table 2) is the cost schedule. The formulas in Table 1 look for the largest "Sq In" in Table 2 that is equal to or less than the canvas size in Table 1 then multiplies it by the canvas size to determine the cost. For example, for a 100 sq in canvas the value returned is $0.10, which is then multiplied by the canvas size (100 sq in) for a cost of $10. A 150 sq in canvas would also return $0.10 for a total cost of $15. A 210 sq in canvas would return $0.09 for a cost of $18.90.
    If your cost scale is such that the first 100 sq in costs X, the second 100 costs Y, etc. and you add up these increments to get the total cost, this idea won't work. Something very similar can be done, though.

    I use this spreadsheet as a work order form for social service agencies. They enter name address etc., and then there are various work projects that they can select as well.
    The one I have from the organization I work with is an excel file but it does not convert over very well. Instead of being 7 pages it is more like 11 or so because things run off the page.  I am trying to delete certain things and move them over but not working out very well so thought it might be easier to start over fresh.
    Is numbers the program to use? If so, any useful tips?

    If the form is going to be used on an iPad, Numbers is the only game in town.
    Numbers is available for Macs only (and iOS devices). Excel is available for PCs and Macs. If you are in a mixed environment of Windows PCs and Macs and you are using this document as an electronic form, Excel is probably the better choice. Otherwise you will need to export to Excel for the PC users then import from Excel to retrieve their data. The import/export process is not perfect. A file that has been exported then reimported will not be the same as the original file. I would assume social services agencies are almost entirely PC-based. 
    If the form is to be printed or turned into a PDF for distribution and use by the social services agencies, either Excel or Numbers would do the job but right now Excel might be the better choice. I would have recommended Numbers '09 but I cannot recommend Numbers 3 for anything thsat requires printing until they give us the layout and printing functionality we used to have (editing in Print View, ability to set margins, etc).
    If everything else in your department/operation/agency is Windows PC and Microsoft Office based, you would be better off sticking with the standard.

    What do you recommend as the best? Is there an export format that would work best as a single clickable file that is cross platform? Is .swf the best solution? I think it would take awhile to set up a portfolio that way.
    All ideas welcome! I'm doing an press kit on a USB device that will be handed out to many.

    The fastest solution that came to mind for me was using the web module in Lightroom and outputting gallery files locally for putting them on a USB drive. You might also want to post the same question on some of the product specific forums you cited.
