I want to measure PCB 203B force transducer with NI 9234 module in a DC coupled manner - How

The transducer is an IEPE stype and when I turn on IEPE excitation, I can't do a DC coupling.  Am I left to using some type of external amp?

From memory, PCB ICP load cells (that's IEPE by another name) have a typical bias voltage of around 10 V, which is usually stripped by a capacitor on the excitation amplifier (or the 9234 in this case). I used to have a series of triaxial load cells that were biased to 10.25 V.
PCB sell a number of relatively inexpensive external amplifiers themselves, but take care to mention to their sales representative that your interest lies in static or quasi-static measurements. I bought a 482C05 four channel amp and decided to use it for low-rate tests, and found that the decay was considerable in one set of tests thanks to the amplifier time constant. One cheap and cheerful solution was to connect a BNC T-piece at the amplifier/load cell connector and branch off the signal. This is where the bias voltage is important - I was fortunate to have a 16 bit DAQ with which I could just about measure signals using the 10 V range - as you would need to remove the DC offset somehow to read with a 5 V DAQ. I was planning on using a nice steady voltage regulator opposing the load cell until I found my DAQ was capable of handling the measurement. On the plus side, DC performance was now no longer affected by the amplifier's frequency response
So, tl;dr - get another excitation source and remove the DC offset voltage if you want to measure in DC coupling.

  • I have an SCXI-1531,​1126,1120D (with 1327) connected to PCI-6052E. How can I measure an ICP force sensor with some/all of this?

    As I understand it, I may only need to use the 1531. Although it says it is used for accelerometers, it sounds like the techincal specifications of the card are adequate. I will be measuring in the range of 30 Hz with force sensors. The sensors are made by PCB Piezoelectronics, model 201B02. This equipment was somewhat inhereted, so I don't really know what of it I must use, or how. Any guidance would be appreciated.

    It appears that your force sensor is compatible with the SCXI-1531. This module supports all Integrated Electronic Piezoelectric (IEPE) sensors. Thus, it is not limited to accelerometers. I examined the data sheet for your sensor, and it indicates that a Constant Current Excitation of 2 to 20 mA is required. The SCXI-1531 provides a constant current excitation of 4 mA. In the same way, it appears that the other specifications of your sensor are compatible with the SCXI-1531.

    I have Labview 8.2 , and I want to measure the network frequency (50Hz) with at least 3 digits and good accuracy.
    Is there any solutions to do that in Labview , easy? I also have a DAQ 6210.

    You can use your 6210 to measure the frequency of your
    signal. The 6210 has 2 - 32 bit counters on-board. It has built-in timebases of
    80, 20 and 0.1 MHz available for use with the counters. You will still need to
    attenuate the signal. The maximum input rating for the 6210’s counters in 5
    volts. They are TTL digital inputs.  Also the counter inputs are not
    designed for negative voltages. So you may need to rectify your signal as well
    as attenuating it. Examples of frequency measurements using the DAQmx drivers
    can be found in the NI Example Finder. In Labview go to Help >> Find
    Examples… >> Hardware Input and Output >> DAQmx >> Counter
    Measurements >> Digital Frequency.

  • How can I connect the output of a force transducer unit(BNC cable) to the PCI-6036E DAQ card via the SCB-68 block connector?

    I m using the 404A force transducer unit by Aurora Scientific and i want to connect the (converted to Volt) output, which is a BNC cable, to the PCI-6036E DAQ card via the SCB-68 connector block, facing difficulties in choosing the correct input mode for my signal(couldn t clear this using the manual), setting the switches and which channel shall i use in the block connector in order to configure ot with LABVIEW

    Connecting your transducer to the 6036E card via the SCB-68 connector block should be pretty straight forward. You have 2 choices of input mode, Referenced Single Ended (RSE) this is where you will connect the screen of the BNC cable to a ground connection for the DAQ card in the SCB-68 and the other to any analogue input channel . These are listed in the device pinouts in the help section of MAX, under the 68 pin devices section. The terminal block numbers correspond to the DAQ card's pin numbers. Another method, which avoids ground loop problems would be to use the Differential connection and connect the signal and ground connections of the BNC cable to a differential analogue input, these are listed in the 6036E manual and in th
    e MAX help section again. the disadvantage to using this method is 2 analogue input channels are used and you must use the lowest 8 analogue input channels for differential inputs.
    The switch settings that you need can be found in the manual for the SCB-68 in table 2-1, the manual can be found here : http://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/320745b.pdf
    The switches are for power to extra signal conditioning and the cold junction compensation for thermocouples which in your case you do not need so set the switches to the positions in the first box ie Direct feedthrough, with temperature sensor disabled and accessory power disabled. The channel you use should not matter the only ting to remember will be that if you use differential mode measurement that you will be connecting the signals to AI(n) and AI(n+8) so differential input 0 is across the connectors for AI0 and AI(8). The channel numbers corespond to the analogue input number for the card.

  • Calibrating Force Transducer KAF

    Hi Friends
    attached is a program to calibrate a force transducer KAF(max. excitation voltage 20V, nominal load 20kN) with signal conditioning Modul 5B38 and mounting card 5B04. am using messcard M6221 and LV 8.0.if i run the with max/min 20V/-20V i get an error message  saying  it is not support by the daqmx, that i should change to max/min 10V/-10V.  with 10V/-10V  daqmx  configuration  there is no error however the result is not plausible. so could someone help to figure out where i went wrong or any suggestion how i can with what i have to correctly calibrate the force transducer. i did a similar job before Xmas for pressure transducer and that worked well.

    the reason why you can´t chose +-20V as min/max value for your measurement is, that the 6221 M-Series card you mentioned above is just specified for +-10V. For a better understanding I attached the detailed specifications of the card.     Hi asaccullo.
    The recommended settings for encoders are using the counters in the daq cards. Using digital I/O’s is not recommended, the encoders send digital signals but one of the main differences between using digital IO vs counters is that counters are designed to handle these type of events.
    Here I found several examples in ni.com/code that you might check:

    An Elvis is a daq device, so this should work for you.
    I also found an example for myDAQ, it uses the DIO but with a counter task in the set up.

    Hello Luis,
    The update rate on the AI-102 module is 360Hz, which means that you can only accurately acquire waveforms with frequencies below 180Hz. 
    FieldPoint wasn't made for high speed measurements, so you will have to make sure that you are able to acquire the waveform you want to with the hardware that you have.
    If you want to know how you would do the acquisition, I urge you to take a look at the LabVIEW shipping examples.

    As for writing to the file, you can take a look at examples under Fundamentals»File Input and Output.  You can use the functions included in the Functions Palette under Programming»File I/O.

    It seems as if this is the third time you've asked the exact same question, and you never responded to the solution that was suggested the very first time you asked it. Do you understand that the person who answered you there (lesher) attached an image that shows a suggested solution?
    You should go back to that original thread, examine the proposed solution, and--staying in that thread--ask a follow-up question (click the "Reply" button) if you do not understand something. If you do ask another question, you need to be very detailed and specific about what isn't working, or people won't be able to successfully help you.
    Keep in mind that LabVIEW 6.0 (a fairly old version at this point) is really going to limit the number of people who can make modifications to your code and re-save it in a format that you can use.

    You might try using the "Measure Pulse (DAQ-STC).vi" example located in
    ./Program Files/National Instruments/LabVIEW/examples/daq/counter/daq-stc.llb/*.
    Or if you're using a TIO board, try using the "Measure Pulse (NI-TIO).vi" example located in
    ./Program Files/National Instruments/LabVIEW/examples/daq/counter/ni-tio.llb/*.

  • I want to transfer data through the serial port in the same coding that hyperterminal uses. How can i do it?

    The serial port seems to be working, and labview seems to be sending the data, but the problem is in which format does it send the data, because in hyperterminal i just input the string "JDX" and it sends it to my device, with labview it sends something but my device does not recognize it.

    Hyperterminal adds the carriage return/line feed to the string which is
    generated by the return key to send out the current line. LabVIEW simply
    sends out what you tell it, so try to set the string to "Show \ Display"
    format and add a \r or \n or \r\n to the command you want to send out.
    Assumes of course that you set the right baudr
    ate/bits/parity etc in
    LabVIEW with the VISA property node, when opening the serial port.

  • Scxi 1126 frequency measurement along with other scxi modules

    I want to measure frequency signal using sxci 1126. I have gone through the example code for sxci 1126. I am using NI-DAQ and Labview 7.1.
    The example code is applicable when am acquiring only from 1126. I have to acquire data also from 1102 102B along with 1126.
    In the example code along with AI config.vi and Ai Start.vi there are two additional vi's like AI paramete.vi and AI Trigger config.vi I understand that they are used for reading from 1126. My worry is how this is going to affect my acquisition from other scxi modules as all the modules are in multiplexed mode.

    Looking at your code, I see that you are still using Traditional DAQ. Since you have LV 7.1, you can take advantage of the new features of DAQmx.
    With DAQmx, you can create a virtual task that includes all of the different types of measurements you want to make. Once you set up the task in MAX, you can place it on the block diagram and automatically generate the code necessary to execute this.
    To do this, open up the Measurement and Automation Exlporer (MAX). Select "Data Neighborhood" from the tree on the left. Then click the button labeled "Create New." Create a DAQmx Virtual Channel. Follow the series of menus to set up your first type of acquisition (1126 frequency measurement). When you are
    done creating the task, you can add the second type of measurement to that same task. In the task config page, you will see a white box with the name of the channel you just created in it. Above the name you will see an "Add" button. Click on this button and follow the menus to set up your second measurement (1102 module).
    Once they are set up, save the task and open LabVIEW. Place the DAQmx Task Name constant on your block diagram found in All Functions >> Data Acquisition >> DAQmx... the task name constant is a purple colored box. Clicking on the box once its on the block diagram will expand a menu that will let you choose your task. Once selected, right click on the task name and choose Generate Code >> Example. This will automatically generate the code necessary to run the tasks. Simply hit the run button and enjoy!

    I want to set up my email composition with a default [email protected] address in the "Reply-to" field that is different from my ISP.  How do I configure mail to set this default? 
    I have looked through the help and fail to see an option in the Preferences -> Compose window. 
    I am OK with UNIX Command line tasks if that is the only way to set this default.
    Basically I have an alumni email redirection service, which is an address that never changes, even if I change ISP.  That way all my friends can use it an never change.  However, they tend to use whatever ISP address is, not what I have asked them to use. 
    I want to force emails I send to default to my alumni address when my friends reply, not my ISP address.  I want control over this.

    Email preferences --> select Account --> Account Information tab --> Email address.
    The Email address setting supplies the "from" mail address in a sent email for that account.
    I  been doing this for years (well in Eudora but it works in Mail too) since my return address is a mail forwarding service.  That lets me switch ISP's and no one is ever the wiser.  I just change the forwarding service "pointer" to point to my new ISP.  But everyone else see sees the same "from" address as it's always been.

    I am using PXI-4472 DSA Module to analyse the Frequency.
    I am using LAbVIEW 7 software.
    I am using the Spectral Measurement VI in Signal Analysis in Functions.
    Using that i am not bale to measure the frequency more than 500Hz.
    My card is able to measure upto 50KHz.
    why it is happening?
    what i need to do if i want to measure the frequency upto 50KHz?

    What happens when you try to measure a signal more than 500Hz? What does the time domain signal look like? How fast is the NI-4472 sampling? Are you using a sensor such as a microphone? Or are you just making voltage measurements?
    I would recommend starting on the acquisition side with a shipping DAQmx example such as "Cont Acq&Graph Voltage-Int Clk.vi" which can be found through the LabVIEW Example Finder under the DAQmx section. You will need to have at least NI-DAQ 7.1 to use DAQmx with the 4472, but it's always good to upgrade to the latest version.     Once the time domain data looks good, then try to add the signal processing.

  • Problem of measurering wrong resistance on DMM with scanner

    Hello.
    I want to be taught the way for measuring correct resistance on DMM with scanner.
    Now,  I have connectted DMM and Scanner and use GP-IB for measurement.
    The measurement program is for mesureing tenperature using Pt100 and it set scanning 30 chanel.
    First turn, It is correct resistance but second turn, suddenly, the resistance decrease.
    Instruments turn off for a while, this program sometime good performance so I don't think instruments is wrong.
    Please tell me good advie for me.

    I have seen your VI.As there are some sub VIS are absent and I have no DMM just like yours, I could not run your VI.You are using two instruments(DMM and the Scanner) together.If you use only the DMM, what about the result.you told that resistance value on DMM is correct for the 1st cycle.What about the next cycles?
    Your problem is a little bit complicated to debug.So I suggest you to perform a simple test to read resistance value from DMM.
    You can do it in MAX(NI Measurement & Automation Explorer).Just open MAX and you can see your GPIB interface under "Device and Interface".Right click on GPIB interface and select "Instrument scan".Your DMM should be detected.right click on DMM and select "Communication with instrument".It will open "NI 488.2 communicator".Just input command and click query.Let me know the result.
    Another way for simple test is to use "Instrument I/O assistant(block diagram→Input→Instrument I/O assistant).
    Would you please tell me whether there is any error sign on DMM when you start your program?

    The banner usually indicates that the memo is "Paused." If you go back into voice memos, touch the word "Done" beside the big red pause button, give it a name, then it will show in a list. Touch the memo in the list then touch the trash can icon that should appear.
