IBooks doesn't read my epub files

Hi,
I have installed the latest version of ibooks on my iPad.
First of all I wanted to try if it works properly.
So I sent an e-book (epub format bought from a seller that is not Apple) by e-mail from my Mac. I recovered it from the mail (the e-book icon - the same as iBooks - was recognized as an ePub file) and it asked me if i wanted to open it with ibooks.
Well, the app said that the file was not in a proper format to be read.
This happened with other epub files.
Another app read those files perfectly (asked me only the authorization to read epub files inserting ID and PW for the Adobe account).
iBooks asked me nothing about the authorization...
Does it means that iBooks reads epub files bought only from Apple? In this case i won't be able to recover all my old e-books with this app.
Thank you.
iPad Air / iOS 7.1.2

I have you seen my reply on your duplicate thread : ibooks doesn't read epub files ? If the epub has digital rights management on it then you won't be able to read it in the iBooks app

  • Apperture doesn't read the RAW files from my new Camera

    Hi, Apperture doesn't read the RAW files downloaded from my new Camera Fujifilm X-S1. What options do I have to work with .RAF (Fujifilm RAW)?
    I was thinking about using RAW Converter PRO but it cannot upload the full information contained into the RAF file. Maybe there is another Program I can use until Aperture includes my camera in its DB.
    Greats!

    I've been a loyal Apple user for 20 years and have been using Aperture for the last 2 years. The X-pro came out a YEAR ago and still no x-trans sensor support and yet Lightroom by Adobe and Capture One now has RAW support.I've had to switch to the Lightroom trial as I have a busy studio in hope that Apple might bother with me but again no reply to my emails.
    If I have to purchase Lightroom I will probably not come back to Aperture which is a shame
    Apple seem to have got too big for good customer service these days unless it's an iPhone or iPad

  • Why doesn't read the RTF file?

    Hello,
    Could anyone tell me what is the problem with the following code. It would
    read an 'rtf' file but it doesn't.
    import javax.swing.*;
    import javax.swing.text.*;
    import javax.swing.text.rtf.*;
    import java.io.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    public class Rtf extends JFrame {
    String filein = System.getProperty("user.dir")
    + System.getProperty("file.separator")
    + "BG.rtf";
    public Rtf() {
         RTFEditorKit rtfKit = new RTFEditorKit();
         DefaultStyledDocument doc = new DefaultStyledDocument();
         try {
              rtfKit.read( new FileInputStream( filein ), doc, 0 );
         } catch(Exception e) {
              System.out.println("Read error: " + e);
         System.out.println("doc.getLength: " + doc.getLength());
    public static void main(String[] args) {
    JFrame frame = new Rtf();
    During the execution the following lines are the result:
    Read error: java.lang.NullPointerException
    doc.getLength: 0
    Press any key to continue...
    Thank you in advance.

    If your rtf is made in word 2000 or newer version, rtf kit cannot read it and return null pointer statement

  • I have just started shooting Raw.  Why IPhoto doesn't read my RAW files?

    I have a Mac OS X - 10.6.8.  Processor 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.  Memory 4Go 1067 MHz DDR3.  IPhoto '09.
    I have started shooting RAW and IPhoto doesn't read my the RAW files?

    Lightroom 1.4.1 does not support native (NEF) files from the D700 because the camera didn't even exist when it was released. To get support you have two options: upgrade to Lr 2.x (paid for upgrade) or convert your NEF files to DNG.
    DNG converter 5.4 can be downloaded from http://www.adobe.com/downloads/ (see right hand side of page)

  • Reader for epub files?

    Now that google has opened up it's bookshelf, making tones of books downloadable in epub/pdf formats, I'm looking for a decent (and lightweight) epub reader.
    I think it's not hard to write a application to handle this.Epub files can be extracted as zip archives, here is what it looks like:
    Emma
    |-- META-INF
    | `-- container.xml
    |-- OEBPS
    | |-- Content-000.xml
    | |-- Content-001.xml
    | |-- Content-002.xml
    | |-- Content-045.xml
    | |-- Content-046.xml
    | |-- images
    | | |-- Image-000-0000.jpg
    | | |-- Image-002-0001.jpg
    | | |-- Image-002-0002.jpg
    | | |-- Image-003-0003.jpg
    | | `-- Image-046-0099.jpg
    | |-- toc.ncx
    | `-- volume.opf
    `-- mimetype
    (Well I said that is easy but I didn't mean easy for me... lol, currently I just open those xml files with firefox.)
    I've read about fbreader and calibre, but both requires qt stuff which I tend to avoid...
    EDIT::
    fbreader does not require qt! It defaults to gtk+ but that package in AUR uses qt4. The gtk+ version is already in [community]... silly me..
    Any other solutions are all welcome!

  • BufferedReader doesn't read the whole file.

    Hi,
    I am reading a text file using this piece of code:
    BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader("C:\\ServerOut.txt");
    String str;
    while((str = in.readLine()) != null) {
    System.out.println(str);
    }The problem is that not the whole file is being read. I do not understand why?
    Please help.

    Looks fine to me (assuming that that's a valid file name and it's at least reading some of the file).
    There must be something else going on--maybe whatever's writing the file hasn't finished, or maybe there are control characters in there that are messing up the display on your DOS prompt window.

  • My iBook doesn't show the hidden files on my pen drive

    Hi there,
    I have a 1 Gb Kingston pen drive to transfer files from/to my work PC (which is a Windows PC).
    The pen drive works seamlessly on the Windows PC. But when using it on Mac iBook G4 it always leaves some "markers" of the files used like "._trash". These are not very big, but I wonder:
    1) Why does Mac create those apparently useless files?
    2) Why can I only see those apparently useless files on Windows PCs but not on Mac? (i.e. if I didn't have to regularly use a Windows PC my pen drive would get filled up with useless information without me even knowing)
    3) Why can I add or alter files from Mac to pen drive, but I cannot simply delete files on the pen drive using my Mac (again, I need to retort to my olde Windows PC to do such a "basic" operation).
    I always press the eject button before unplugging my pen drive.
    I always find annoying that external devices that work just fine and as expected on Windows PCs create endless problems and issues when connected to Mac (have similar issues with my Sony digital camera).
    Thank you for your help and time
    Marco

    Hello Soave
    Hope to answer some Qs.
    1) The files aren't useless to OS X. Please follow this link to read more.
    2) Mac OS X is based around Unix. In Unix, the convention to hide files is to prefix a full-stop. Windows does not recognise this as a hidden file and hence will simply show them with the preceding full-stop.
    3) I can't answer this one as I can see no reason why you should be allowed to alter them but not delete them. It's obvious you have write access to them. I use a thumb drive on my Mac and I have no such problems.
    I haven't personally used it, but this program might be of use to you.

  • Lync 2013 client doesn't read proxy.pac file Lync exclusions

    Hi all,
    I have a very annoying issue where by the Lync 2013 client ignores the proxy.pac file exclusions set below:
    (host == "lync.test.domain") || (host == "lyncdiscoverinternal.test.domain") ||
    (host == "lyncwacdca.test.domain") ||
    (host == "lyncwacdcb.test.domain") ||
    (host == "lyncwebintdca.test.domain") ||
    (host == "lyncwebintdcb.test.domain")
    IE is set to use automatic configuration script of
    http://proxy.test.domain:8083/proxy.pac This file can be reached through and IE browser, downloaded and it's syntax read.
    If I set my proxy server and exclusions manually within IE9 then they are adhered to. That is Lync 2013 is able to read.
    My thinking: that some application may be iterferring with Lync 2013 getting to
    http://proxy.test.domain:8083/proxy.pac or reading in the exclusions set within the file.
    If I enter https://lync.test.domain into the browser URL search field I can see that it is being sent straight out to the proxy as opposed to bypassing it.
    Does anyone have an example of their proxy.pac exclusion set for Lync 2013 just in case my syntax is not looking the best.
    Cheers

    Update to this issue - solution was to move the proxy exclusions to the top of the proxy.pac
    Outcome resulted in Windows WinHTTP processing the the Lync proxy exclusions prior to the Lync.exe firing during logon. I don't believe you would see this in a typical infrastructure. Since initially looking into this issue I  have been
    able to show through packet traces, large periods of latency in delivery of desktop profile items due to backend profile storage issues.
    In eddition this moving the exclusions to the top of the pac file I made use of substrings. I don't believe the use of substrings is any better or worst, but just easier for others to understand what the exclusion allows specifically.
    Example of pac exclusion now:
    if (url.substring(0,39) == "http://lyncdiscoverinternal.testdomain.") { return "DIRECT"; } //matches 31 characters including last . or period
    I entered similar entries for all required exclusions. The result was Lync signing in within 6 seconds as opposed to the 40 second (through the user of legacy SRV records).

  • Anyone have an ePub file that isn't properly read by iBooks?

    I have (2) ePub books, without DRM, that appear in iTunes and on the iBooks shelf properly, and the first few pages of the book look fine, but all the pages after like page 4+ are blank. Very strange. But the books are still long like there is data there that it is not rendering. I've tried resizing, etc. Nothing works.
    I installed Stanza on my PC. It can open and read the ePub files just fine. I tried converting the ePub files to another eBook type, and then resaving them to ePub. The "converted" book can be read by iBooks without incident, but a lot of the nice formatting is gone. Just trying to make a small change to the ePub book in Stanza and then saving the file did now work.
    I guess just a small bug in iBooks. Version 1 and whatnot...
    Garrick

    I had some similar problems this weekend. In one case, everything after page 50 or so was blank, and on another, a blank page was inserted between every other page. I ended up just turning the file in to a pdf, copying and pasting the text in to an RTF file, and then changing the file back in to EPUB. It's not an optimal solution, but at least I can read the book on the iPad now.

  • Reading Epub file on Mac

    Is it possible to read an epub file on a Mac that has the kindle app installed, or some other way? Seems like it can only be synched to a mobile device after putting it Itunes, sure makes me wonder why you wouldn't be able to, but that's why I'm here, us old guys need alot of help learning this stuff, thanks.

    Is it possible to read an epub file on a Mac ?
    Yes, just use google and other standard reference sources to get a list, e.g.

  • EPUB file won't open in Apple iBooks

    Hi all!
    I'm creating ebooks for a client using InDesign CC and she reports that the most recent EPUB I've created for her won't open in iBooks. As I don't own a smartphone or tablet I can't error-test on my end, but if you can think of anything that would lead to this error please let me know! I can't think of anything I've done differently in creating the EPUB, so maybe it's an issue with a recent CC or iBooks update? Has anyone else had this problem recently? The other ebooks I've made for her open fine.
    Her report on what happened: "when I go to my downloads folder and double click the file -- it opens the book shelf in ibooks and shows that the file is there but it has no cover. When i double click the book the program doesnt do anything. it doesnt open."

    In your last post here, you also had the same problem with the cover, which I think was due to the CMYK mode settings. Now I have no idea if iBooks doesn't display cover images that are CMYK, but usually images should be RGB (or Grayscale) in EPUB in order for them to display in ADE and Nook.
    Are there any other problems in the EPUB, i.e. other than the cover?

  • Web-downloaded epub files won't transfer from iBooks to iTunes

    Hi!
    Yesterday, on my iPad, I downloaded two epub files from a website (using Safari) and opened them directly in iBooks. They work fine, show up in my Library with no problem. However, I can't get them to sync down to iTunes. This is definitely not the first time I've downloaded directly to iBooks from an app on the iPad (although maybe a first for an epub from Safari?), but this is the first time I've had issues syncing down to iTunes.
    I've synced and resynced and resynced and they won't transfer; not only do they not transfer, but if I open the Books folder on the iPad when it's mounted in iTunes, they're not listed. I could put them on my laptop first and then load them into iTunes and to the iPad from there, but I've highlighted and bookmarked in both books and don't want to lose all of that if it's avoidable.
    Any ideas? I'm wondering if there's some limitation of iBooks that I don't know. And if there is, is there a way to now get the epub files out of iBooks some other way? (To maintain bookmarks/highlighting.)
    Anyway, thanks in advance
    P.S. As a test, I just did the same thing on my iPhone with the same results: file won't sync down and doesn't show up when I browse the phone in iTunes.

    i have the exact problem last week when I signed up to receive a free epub in the email.
    When the email arrived I proceed to open it in ibook on my iphone and started reading, after 2 chapters I decided to sync the phone with my computer and found that it won't sync the newly downloaded epub, not even showing it in the device list in itunes.
    So I tried the same thing on my ipad, download to ibook, sync with computer. Same result: the book was not synced and won't show in ipad's book folder in the device list.
    Still haven't found a solution

    when I use voice over to read an epub in my Ibooks app, which is in Dutch, sometimes he start reading a book with an English Female voice and some books he reads with the Dutch male voice (which is good). All my epubs are Dutch books so the English voice sound terrible trying to pronounce Dutch. Can i fix this problem? Thanks, Tom

    It sounds like you may have multiple problems, but none of them are likely to be caused by malware.
    First, the internet-related issues may be related to adware or a network compromise. I tend to lean more towards the latter, based on your description of the problem. See:
    http://www.adwaremedic.com/kb/baddns.php
    http://www.adwaremedic.com/kb/hackedrouter.php
    If investigation shows that this is not a network-specific issue, then it's probably adware. See my Adware Removal Guide for help finding and removing it. Note that you mention AdBlock as if it should have prevented this, but it's important to understand that ad blockers do not protect you against adware in any way. Neither would any kind of anti-virus software, which often doesn't detect adware.
    As for the other issues, it sounds like you've got some serious corruption. I would be inclined to say it sounds like a failing drive, except it sounds like you just got it replaced. How did you get all your files back after the new drive was installed?
