Ibooks doesn't read epub files

I have installed the latest version of ibooks on my iPad.
First of all I wanted to try if it works properly.
So I sent an e-book (epub format bought from a seller that is not Apple) by email. I recovered it from the mail (the icon was recognized as an epub  file) and it asked me if i wanted to open it with ibooks.
Well, the app said that the file was corrupted or was not in a proper format to be read.
This happened with other epub files.
Another app read those files perfectly (asked me only the authorization to read epub files inserting the ID and PW for Adobe).
Does it means that ibooks reads epub files bought only from Apple??
Thank you.

If the epub has digital-rights-management on it then you won't be able to read it in the iBooks app.

  • IBooks doesn't read my epub files

    Hi,
I have installed the latest version of ibooks on my iPad.
First of all I wanted to try if it works properly.
So I sent an e-book (epub format bought from a seller that is not Apple) by e-mail from my Mac. I recovered it from the mail (the e-book icon - the same as iBooks - was recognized as an ePub file) and it asked me if i wanted to open it with ibooks.
Well, the app said that the file was not in a proper format to be read.
This happened with other epub files.
Another app read those files perfectly (asked me only the authorization to read epub files inserting ID and PW for the Adobe account).
iBooks asked me nothing about the authorization...
Does it means that iBooks reads epub files bought only from Apple? In this case i won't be able to recover all my old e-books with this app.
    Thank you.

I have you seen my reply on your duplicate thread : ibooks doesn't read epub files ? If the epub has digital rights management on it then you won't be able to read it in the iBooks app

  • Why can't I read EPub files on my Kobo Touch?

I have been successfully downloading and reading EPub files on my Kobo Touch for months now. However, after the recent upgrade to the Touch I have been having some challenges. I follow the same procedure as always to download library books to ADE and then drag and drop the file to the KoboeReader icon in the ADE screen. ADE says the file has transfered and the book shows in the Kobo library in ADE. When I disconnect my eReader and turn it on the books do not appear on the Touch. Any suggestions?
Note: I did try de-authorizing and re-authorizing my Touch and it didn't correct the problem.

Sorry. I think you misread me. I know you said the software upgrade messed me up and I agree. It was Kobo Support who said the ebook/library book that caused the problem. When I called Kobo Support to see if they had a fix they told me it was my library's problem. I kept going back to the software upgrade and all the trouble shooting I had done - including the paperclip in the back - but the tech just kept getting me to do the same things over and over. You were spot on that they would try to place the blame on something other than their upgrade but they didn't blame ADE. The tech didn't have any new suggestions . I eventually gave up on her and took the device back to its like new settings, unintalled and reinstalled all the software on both my device and pc. It is working now but unfortunately I lost a couple of books.  Thanks for your input.

Ask the people you bought them from.  I don't know whether it's possible on an iPad, maybe only on a Mac.  Read their

  • Lightroom doesn't read NEF files

Last night, I scanned some negatives with my Nikon LS-5000. I thought I'd save them as NEFs, so I tried a couple. Unfortunately, LR 1.1 doesn't read them.
I just ended up re-scanning and saving as 16-bit TIFFs, which will work fine.
I'm guessing Adobe probably won't add support for this since film isn't too important anymore. Does anyone have any comments regarding this shortcoming?
    Thanks,
    Jay

This issue is well documented. It's not a LR issue. Nor is it a Photoshop issue. A Nikon Coolscan NEF is not a raw file. It is a proprietary linearized format that only works within Nikon software. Save your scans as TIFFs unless you plan to exclusively use Nikon software to process them.
There are NEFs .. and then there are NEFs.

Is it possible to read an epub file on a Mac ?
Yes, just use google and other standard reference sources to get a list, e.g.

  • Firefox won't read EPUB files

    Hi Folks,
I had some 15 book stored on EPUB in firefox, but they just disappeared. That was over a years work. Firefox now won't allow any epub files.

You need to open .eml files with your email program (e.g. Thunderbird). Firefox can't open such files.

  • Aperture doesn't read raw files

Aperture just stopped reading raw files. NOt all of them, just some. It says unsupported file format. Why is this happening, what can I do about it?

Aperture 2.0.1, camera Canon EOD 400D, OS 10.5.2.
The problem is it didn't happen before, it started happening today after I changed places of many files, exported the biggest part to the external drive and created new projects leaving some photos there and changing places. I don't know what I did wrong. It can't read only some files.
Same thing happened with Iphoto as well some time ago.

  • IBooks won't open epub file

Everything I've read tells me that if I transfer an epub book to ibooks on my ipod, it should open. But the library book download I put on my computer keeps saying it is an improper file. I tried using stanza and kobo apps and didn't have any luck. Any suggestions?
    Thanks -C

Ask your library.  Most ebooks like that have DRM and must be opened with a specific app, such as Bluefire Reader.

  • Qtime doesn't read .mov files anymore

Anybody can help? I always used to see my .mov files (written with my simple camera - Kodak Easy Share something) on my computer: as of yesterday, it doesn't work anymore, all is shown is a geer/pink/yellow striped screen... anybody can help me?
    thanks a lot

Here you go, I posted same problem tonight and in 5 minutes, this person fixed it. II did it and it worked. Here's what he told me, copied and pasted:
Open QuickTime Player and under the Edit menu choose Preferences/QuickTime Preferences. This will open the QuickTime Control Panel.
Under Advanced tab and the Video area remove the check mark for DirectX and try Safe mode. Click the Apply button and try the file again.
    Good Luck,

  • IDVD doesn't read document files?

I have an OS X 10.3.9 on my computer and an iDVD 5. A friend has burned me a DVD with some documents in it. For some reason I was never able to view the content of the DVD from my computer. Is there anyway I can fix this?
    Thanks

The computer in other words doesn't even recognize/read that there's a DVD inserted.
What kind of media was used? (DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW)? Was it created on a PC (I suspect)?
I always thought having a DVD drive is sufficient to read anything on a DVD.
Nope - especially if the DVD was created on a PC

  • HT5557 How to set Night mode on Ipad Mini iBooks apps when reading PDF file?

How to set Night mode in iBooks (ver 3.1) for iPad Mini?

It's not available within the iBooks app  for PDFs, the closest you can get is to the Invert Colours accessibility option  (though pictures will appear negative) -  you can set Settings > General > Accessbility > Triple-Click Home to 'Invert Colours', which means that you can then use a triple-click of the home button to go to white text on a black background.

  • SOLVED! How to Read Your Own epub files on PlayBook (sort of)

Hi boys, girls and epub lovers.
I've finally discovered a rather straight-forward way to read epub files on your beloved PlayBook. Follow the steps below for reading joy:
1 - Visit http://bookworm.oreilly.com and follow the 'Sign Up' link. Create an account
2 - Sign in to the site and click on the big 'ADD A BOOK' link on the left hand side.
3 - Upload one of your favourite epub books to the site.
4 - On your PlayBook (if you're not already using it), visit http://m.bookworm.oreilly.com and sign in.
5 - You should see your book listed. Click on it to open and start reading!
    Some nice things about it:
1 - The site remembers the last page that you were reading the next time you sign in
2 - If you read your book in portrait mode on the PlayBook, I discovered that just tapping the screen once will make the page scroll down
3 - Typeface and size can be adjusted at the top of the screen.
4 - You can literraly jump between any device with a web browser and continue to read your book
    Some problems with this method:
1 - You need internet access
2 - Chapter loading takes a moment because the book is stored online
3 - Resizing of text is limited.
If you can get over these minor problems, then it's fine. You can easily read on the move with the Bridge Browser and I've just read a couple of chapters of a book and it was a joy to read.
