ICal events have duplicated, now disappearing in front of my very eyes? What's up

Yesterday I opened iCal on my MacBook Pro to find that all my events were duplicated; today, some of them are totally gone and some are disappearing in front of my very eyes. Today, there is a new calendar listed at the left for my .me account, a duplicate of my .mac account calendar. I just checked my iMac, and the calendar there appears to be fine, no duplication or loss of events. I've used mobile me since it was introduced, but now suddenly, it is a mess. I need it to accrate on my MacBook, my appointment and meeting schedules are gone! If I reenter them, they redisappear. I want to upgrade my MacBook to Snow Leopard, but from other support communities, I've read that after the install, iCal had these very problems. Anyone know what going on? What's up APPLE?

I tried to get safari to open a .php file saved locally (works fine when opened from server).
PHP can only be run from a server.
I looked up why this was happening and I found people saying I needed to enable php and Apache.
Correct.
I did the steps to enable it but Safari would still only open a .php file as html code.
The only way to run PHP in Safari is through the address bar.
I was also learning at the time about myslq
mysql
Well, I should have realized deleting things using terminal was extremely risky. I did it anyway, looking through more forums, learning about directories I needed to delete and how to delete them.
Which forums are those? Most of that information on the internet is out of date at best and often flat out wrong. In the future, it would be best to ask here on Apple Discussions.
Did this begin, and I'm sure it did, when I was so foolishly deleting directories by copying and pasting directions on forums on how to delete mysql?
No doubt. Don't feel too bad. I don't know of anyone who has used ever used UNIX and didn't delete their home directories at some point - or worse.
I don't just want to drag back the deleted apps one at a time, I want to get all of my mistakes off.
You can always boot from your install disk, use Disk Utility to erase your startup drive, then reinstall a factory-fresh OS. I do that every couple of years, when I get a new computer, or on a major OS upgrade. It helps to clean out a lot of junk.

upon syncing my iPhone and mac all of my ical and iPhone calendar events have duplicated. how can i fix this and avoid it in the future?

    Greetings,
    Questions:
    1. What version of the Mac OS are you running (Apple > About this Mac)?
    2. What version of the iOS are you running (Settings > About)?
    3. Do you backup your computer (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427)?
--- If you don't regularly backup your computer, now is the time to start.
    4. Do you backup your iPhone (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766)?
Check the calendar list on the left hand side of iCal.  Is it that the individual events are duplicated or is it just that you have the same calendar listed more than once?  If its that you have more than 1 copy of each calendar, you can delete one of the duplicate calendars to eliminate the duplicates.
If you find that it is the individual events that are duplicated then there are 2 options:
    1. Restore your computer iCal database or iPhone from a backup made before the duplication occurred.
    2. Use a duplication removal program (or do it by hand) to remove the duplicates: http://www.nhoj.co.uk/icaldupedeleter/
If you have a backup made before the duplication occurred, reply back with what kind of backup you have and I'll suggest how to recover the calendars.
To avoid this issue in the future:
Keep regular backups.  They are your best defense against data anomalies which are a fact of life in computers (although hopefully rare).
Keep your computer and iPhone software fully up to date (Apple > Software Update / Settings > General > Software Update).
Make sure the date and time on your computer and iPhone are correct before you sync the two devices.
Make sure the cable connections between the two is solid and that the cable shows no signs of physical damage.
    Hope that information helps.

  • All my iCal events are duplicated after migrating to iCloud

I upgraded my Mac to 10.7.2 at first and migrate my iCal to iCloud.
And then I upgraded my iPhone to iOS 5.
After that I found all my iCal events are duplicated.
Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks~~
    I don't have MobileMe.

When you sign back in to iCloud on the Mac the iCloud calendars should be there if they are also on the web-page iCloud calendar. Did you
Restarting the iCloud merges On My Mac with iCloud calendars (deleting On My Mac calendars in the process). This is why it is so vital to have .ics backups.
I think you must be missing a step somewhere. Here's what to do:
    - Create .ics backups on iCal using Export
    - Open iCal>Preferences>Accounts>iCloud and delete the iCloud account
    - Open System Preferences>iCloud uncheck Calendars and Sign Out
    - Import into iCal your .ics calendars, they will be listed as On My Mac on the iCal Calendars list
    - Sign back into iCloud, check Calendars, Agree to Merge despite the warning that calendars will be removed from the Mac
    - Check the web based iCloud calendar and see if the calendars are there.
    - Check iCal under Calendars and be sure that the iCloud calendars are checked in the list (or they will not display).
If this doesn't work you should make an appointment with an Apple Genius.

  • My Pages documents disappeared from iCloud before my very eyes.

    Hello all,
I was at home getting ready for a presentation by writing a document in Pages on my Mac. I saved it to iCloud, and just to be sure it was there, I got my iPad and pulled up the document there. All seemed well, so off I went to my destination.
When I'm at the destination getting ready to present, I open my iPad and start looking at the document there. Then I get a message that says something like, "Your document has been deleted on another device." (This is impossible since I didn't delete it and no one else has access to my devices.) Then I watched in horror as my document and one or two others disappeared from the Pages iCloud list before my very eyes.
So I was stuck now no notes for my presentation. So uncool.
I looked up this problem here and see that a lot of people had similar problems back in 2011. Is anyone having this happen now? And if so, is there a reason/solution? It's such a dramatic problem it makes me not want to use iCloud at all.

  • ICal event have disappeared after upgrading to Lion. Please help!

After upgrading to Lion, pre-existed calendar events (Newer ones) have disappeared. How can I recover?

    Greetings Alex,
If you have a backup of your computer from before you upgraded then you can restore the data from your backup: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1553
--- Let us know if you have a backup and if so, what type it is and we can tell you how to restore your calendars.
--- If you don't have a backup, consider starting one following the article above ASAP.  Anyone with information they care about on their computer should have a backup.  It is a hard lesson that every computer user learns at least once.
If you do not have a backup from before you upgraded:
    1. Make an iCal backup so you don't lose what you have currently:  Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal one at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
    2. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
    3. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove all files and folders that start with this phrase)
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove all files and folders that start with this phrase.)
---NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
---NOTE: To get to "Home > Library" in Lion:
    4. Open iCal and see if the events you are looking for magically reappear.
If the events don't appear and you don't have a backup or have the events on another device like an iPhone or iPad then your only other option would be to use data recovery software or a data recovery company to try to get the data back (although it might be easier to just re-create the data as best you can).
    Data Recovery software examples:

    http://www.macintosh-data-recovery.com/
    http://www.subrosasoft.com/OSXSoftware/index.php?main_page=product_info&products _id=1
You can contact a local Apple Authorized Provider to see if they offer data recovery services: http://www.apple.com/buy/locator/service/
There are many nationwide / worldwide data recovery companies out there.  Here are a few examples:

  • ICal events To Dos calendars disappeared.

I dont know how to use time machine to get back to where i am. Time machine only shows finder to go back and the files finder shows are only those that can be used for importing one event at a time. I need all events back but cant find a way. Please help me. Any help is appreciated

I just examined the current "Calendars" folder in my /users/xxx/library folder. it has multiple xyz(i).calendar folders in it, each with a info.plist file. Each of the plist file corresponds to one Calendar, either you've created or you've subscribed to. Also in the xyz(i).calendar folder, there are Events folders. These seem to contain the events that we create. Now, i still dont understand why the iCal doesn't know what to do with all the Calendars sitting in the "Calendars" folder. Are they corrupted? Can i retrieve them?

  • Ical events have different times is it a PC thing?

Hi when accepting events from clients running PCs the times are off by an hour.
Is there a work around or is it a time setting issue?
    Thanks

In almost every case like this, it is the source records which contain one of two values: a time stamp an hour earlier than appropriate, or a null value in the time stamp field. These are generated by applications or system software in which the time value is not set appropriately, and in the case of a one hour difference, generally suggests an improperly set value for Daylight Saving Time rather than an incorrectly chosen time zone.
If your time zone is an hour off from the time zone in which these appointments are set, or if you are offset one hour from GMT, then it may be a time zone issue rather than a DST issue.

  • Upgraded to 10.6.3 and ical most ical events disappeared.

    Hello,
I've just upgraded to 10.6.3 from 10.4.11 and most of my ical events have disappeared. It has kept a handful but as I rely heavily on ical for my day to day tasks and diary this is a disaster!
    All help gratefully received.

    bessp,
...Before upgrading, I manually backed-up to a lacie
If you still have the original backup, you can find the Tiger .ics files in the ~Library/Application Support/iCal/Sources Folder on the lacie.
Open the Sources Folder to reveal Alpha Numeric named folders. These folders contain corestorage.ics files which represent the individual calendars on your Tiger system. The corestoreage.ics files can be copied to the Leopard computer. When the corestorage.ics files are opened on the Leopard computer you will be offered to import them. If you do that be sure to select the option to make a new calendar for each one of the .ics files.
...Can I trash the cache file and .plist from my desktop?
    Yes.
Be sure to log off MobileMe before replacing any calendars, and log on after replacement. When you log back in, you should be informed that this computer has never been synced with MobileMe, and you will be offered to replace the data on MobileMe. That would appear to me to be appropriate since MobileMe apparently no longer contains accurate data.
It may also be beneficial for you to use "Chat" on MobileMe Support. Use this link: http://www.apple.com/support/mobileme/ >Syncing with MobileMe>Troubleshooting MobileMe Sync issues>"Chat Now."
    Good Luck.

  • Why have deleted iCal events suddenly reappeared in my calender?

Assistance needed please for an iCal issue on Snow Leopard (iMac).
A bunch of formerly deleted iCal events have suddenly reappeared in iCal. I thought this would be easily resolved by using Time Machine (external HD) to restore the calendar files to when they were workings ok (a couple of days ago). Although this initially appeared to work, all the previously deleted events have suddenly reappeared.
If I was using iCloud I'd assume it was some kind of syncing issue, but I'm not. Least I can rule that out.

  • How to start from scratch with iCal (getting rid of duplicate iCal events)

For reasons I can't figure out, all my iCal events are duplicated 6 times in iCal. None of these events can be deleted (either by hitting the Delete key or via the Edit menu).
I tried using an AppleScript for this purpose (http://www.johnmaisey.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/applescripts/ ) but it doesn't work, at least on my 10.5.1 Mac.
I'm pretty sure I'm going to switch over to Daylite, for both my Calendar and Address Book functions, but until then, it'd be nice to start fresh with iCal, since I'm also trying out a .mac account for the first time, and it might be handy to have a clean calendar backup.
Is there a method for just starting fresh with iCal?

In setting up ICloud on my new Iphone 4s, I lost most of my calendar events in my Outlook 7 calendar in my Vista PC.  I used to have MobileMe but in the set-up process was told to turn that off, which I did but now most of my calendar events have disappeared after syncing with ICloud.  How can I get my missing calendar events back?  They are still on my 3Gs Iphone which I have not yet updated to IOS5.

Plug your phone into the wall charger for at least 30 minutes...make sure you have a sim card in the phone...then:
Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, iTunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new.
Make sure you have no anti-virus software running or any firewalls...turn all of that stuff off.

  • Many contacts and calendar events have disappeared

Many of my contacts and calendar events have suddenly disappeared. Can they be retrieved?

Mine too. I have a J Home and J Work calendar. The J Home calendar is completely gone and had all my personal events. I checked iCloud and it is gone there. No one has access except me. I opened my calendar on my iphone this afternoon to add an appt for my son. The data was there and basically disappeared in front of my eyes. I didn't touch the calendars menu until everything was gone so it wasn't me. I'm losing my mind right now. Everything is gone...just gone.
I just noticed my wife's shared calendars also no longer appear on my phone or iCloud. Both of her calendars appear on her iCloud and they still say they are shared with me. That's just f****n great. iCloud broke something and I'm the one to suffer. I'll bet anything Apple won't do anything to help as they don't back up iCloud data. I'm sure they do as they are required by law, but they won't admit it. SONOFA!!!!

  • Found iCal events in Time Machine.  Now Lion only allowing me to import one event at a time.

Upgrade my macbook pro over the weekend to Snow Leopard and then Lion.   I lost all my the majority of my iCal events.   Went to Apple store and they said that was rare and not sure how to restore my last back up from Time Machine on an external drive.   I've been spending hours trying to go through a bunch of threads on different MAC formums.
So I finally found my iCal events in Time Machine.   When I try to import these events, I am only allowed to highlight/import one event at a time.   This will take me forever to import years of missing data.   I basically have been using my iCal to journal for my 3 small daughters - first tooth, hair cut, etc.   So I am desperate to get these events back so I can get them printed and SAFE.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to import my ics files?   The Apple Store Genius had me tryng to import the corestorage.ics files.   2 or 3 of those files showed they were trying to be imported for over 4 hours.   I finally Forced Quit iCal.   I've tried this several times and same result.
The corestorage files were under user/library/application support/ical/sources
I now located the calendar events user/library/calendars/ then a bunch of coded files leading to the events.  These events appear to be the ones I am looking for as I can read some of the files.   I have several years I want to import back into my working iCal.
Please help if you know how!!!
    Thank you,
Very Upset Mama of 3 little girls

Thomas - You are awesome - THANK YOU!
I did exactly what you said (CAN"T believe an Apple Genius did not know this) and I think all of my events got restored.
However, it duplicated all of the calendars - I have 6 (one for each family member plus an extra called home that we all have to do).   Not sure if I did something wrong, but do you have any ideas?
Also, the time setting must be wrong b/c I have events from 2008 showing up in 2012 - same day and time as the old sessoin - just out dated.    Do I need to manually change all of this?   Should I delete the Calendars folder again and try again?
Also, I read some where about deleting a iCal cache file.   Do I need to do this?
I TRULY appreciate you taking the time to help people in this forum.   I have spent hours the past two days trying to figure this out.   Plus, now I need to figure out about upgrading my Office for Mac b/c I didn't realize I lost Office 2004 when upgrading to Lion.
Thank you for your time and support!

  • My Ical events disappeared how do I restore with time machine/mountain lion?

I recently installed mountain lion.    Today my ICal events disappeared and I can't restore them with time machine.   What happened?   How do I fix it?

Did you try rebuilding the library's database file as follows:  make a temporary, backup copy of your library if you don't already have one (Control-click on the library and select Duplicate from the contextual menu) and  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • All iCal events disappeared beyond 90 days ago

I just noticed that all of my events—except for repeating ones—have disappeared from my iCal calendar, from August 28th backwards. In other words, I have everything still for the past 3 months, just the stuff before that is gone.
Since I've got MobileMe and an iPhone, I checked those, too, and same deal: everything except repeating events (birthdays, weekly and monthly custom stuff) is gone.
I've no idea what happened. I don't have any iCal setting set to delete past events.
Since I have Time Capsule set up, I'm wondering if there's a way to go back and grab the iCal calendar before all events and appointments got deleted. I'm positive it's in TC, just don't know how to get it, and yet not erase the stuff that's been added since.
    Any ideas?

Mike, Thanks for posting. I'd done a search for this issue and nothing came up, so I appreciate you linking back to that thread.
For anyone following this, that other long thread doesn't have any solutions other than Mike's post. So I'll copy his solution here:
"I have got my old calendar data back into MobileMe without downgrading by:
1.Restore ~/Library/Calendars from Time Machine (use "replace" option). This adds all the events Including (all the earlier ones) into "on my mac" calendars. So if you have both the "MobileMe" and the "On my Mac" calendars ticked then the recent events are duplicated. You could stop here and leave the "on my mac" ones unticked unless you wanted to see the history. I went on to......
2.Export each calendar from "on my mac", and import each to the corresponding MobileMe calendar.
3.Manually remove the duplicates for recent events."
I'll add my own two cents: I wasn't sure how far back to go in Time Machine, because I completely forgot which day (or month) I'd upgraded the MobileMe Calendar. In fact, I tried about 4 dates, and then checking to see if the old calendar (on my mac) was back. Each time, it wasn't, so I kept going further back in Time Machine (finally until August 1, 2010). Weirdly, it still wasn't back.
But then I noticed an interesting file inside of (home)/Library/Calendars, called Cache. There were actually a couple of them. I wondered if it acted similar to Safari's cache, in that it kept things just like they were an hour ago. So, I deleted all of the cache files, and boom, all of the events were back.
Strangely, all of the events and to-dos I'd added since August were also still in the calendar. I've no idea how it did that, since I thought I completely replaced the contents of the Library/Calendar folder.
    Some other tips:
    1. before doing anything, backup your Calendar (File: Export: iCal Archive) just in case you need to redo the whole thing.
    2. Back up the current Library/Calendar folder. Probably the same thing as doing the above Archive, but I'm not that smart so I did this as well.
    3. Sign out of Mobile Me (System Prefs: MobileMe: Account: Sign Out), so that MM doesn't try to overwrite your good work.
    4. Quit iCal before working with Time Machine.
    5. Before working with Time Machine, I took screen shots of each month (in Month View) for the last few months. This was in case the backup would delete all of the stuff I'd added since the date I was backing up from. As noted above for reasons I can't figure out, the old Calendar kept all my new stuff from the last few months, so I didn't end up needing the screen shots. Still, I'd suggest doing it!
As Mike noted, there were some duplicates. I couldn't see any pattern to the dupes, but they were mainly birthdays, repeating tasks, and a few multi-day events. Not a big deal.
