  • IChat freezes when using AIM direct connection

When attempting to send or receive files by dropping them into the text input field in iChat, the program becomes unresponsive for almost a minute and sometimes more.
This happens when attempting to send a picture or other type of file (regardless of size) by dragging the file into the text entry field and pressing return. The problem happens when another AIM user (regardless of their AIM client--iChat or other) will try to send me a file as well.
I do not experience any freezes when I send or receive files by dragging the file over their name on the buddy list or by selecting Buddies>Send File.
I've seen other posts referring to similar problems--even pointing to the possibility that the Chax add-on is causing problems. At this writing, Chax is uninstalled from my system fully.
I have also followed steps to delete the com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist to no avail.
My account is set to use port 443.
Are there any possible solutions to this problem?

I get this as well. Same problems when I delete com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist's too.

  • ITunes freezes when signing in

Running iTunes 12. I can run it in Safe Mode, and I don't have any third-party plugins. This only happens when I sign in to iTunes, and whenever I sign out I can access it normally again.

    Hey Nerveri,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you’ve done quite a bit of isolation and troubleshooting but iTunes continues to stop responding when signing in to the iTunes Store. Take a look at the article linked below, it provides a lot of great user specific and system wide troubleshooting suggestions.

  • IChat freezes when posting an image in an AIM conversation

Hi, I've long had a problem with iChat, both under Tiger and now Leopard, where in an AIM conversation the program freezes for a long time (around 30 seconds to a minute, I would estimate) when posting an image that has been dragged to the text input box. This is without video or any fancy shmancy stuff like that, just regular old IM. The program usually doesn't produce the 'pinwheel', but the conversation is stopped and I cannot type until it's posted. This also happens to my iChat if the person on the other end is posting an image. I thought maybe they just had a bad or slow connection but it happens even with the tiniest of images (in terms of kilobytes), and with anyone I chat with. Is this normal? What causes it?

    Hi,
I would go to iChat menu > Preferences > Accounts
In the Account Info deselect "Use this Account" to Log it out
In the Server Settings tab set the port to 443
Log the account back in again. (Select "Use this Account")
This is because iChat uses the default port of 5190 for Basic Text chats on TCP on this port but converts to UDP on the same port for Direct chats (Ones with Pics in them) and your router may not entirely like this dual use of port 5190

When I try to enter my iChat preferences I get the beachball and then iChat goes unresponsive and eventually I have to force quit it.
    This is 100% reproducible.
    Anybody else experiencing this?
Any ideas how to fix it?

  • IChat freezes when Video is accessed

I have an iSight and an iBot Pro, and I am trying to run them on a G4 PowerPC (dual 1.42) and a G4 PowerBook, both running 10.4.8. I am trying to run skype or iChat video on both computers with either camera. Every possible combination of camera and application works very well on the PowerBook. If a camera is not attached to the PowerPC, iChat and skype work great. If I attach a camera and try to access preferences->video, I get the spinning lollipop and need to force quit; this happens with either camera.
One difference between the PB and PowerPC was that the PowerPC, for the longest time, has squawked at me about the IOXperts driver needing to be paid for and only allowing me 30 minutes of time: I wasn't seeing video, but it still squawked at me. I felt I didn't need it (especially since I'm paying per camera), so I nuked it (following some instructions on the IOXpert web page), assuming there was some native driver for the iSight in the PowerPC (since the laptop doesn't have an IOXperts driver).
I tried Ralph's terminal invocation of iChat with the errorLogLevel 7 flag set, but as soon as I touched preferences->video, that froze as well.
I get the impression I've mucked about a bit too much and may have broken something. Does anyone have a suggestion for how to set things right? Do I need the IOXpert driver after all?
    Thanks,
    Roland

  • Freezing at Sign On and Diminished Video Quality

I'm having trouble with iChat. First, I seem to be getting a lot of freezing at sign-on. I can occasionally see the face of the person I'm connecting with - but then I get an error drop down window from Apple asking if I want to send a report. When I am able to connect, the video quality is terribly distorted.
I have iChat version 5.0. I have set my bandwidth at 200 kbps. I'm running Snow Leopard and use AirPort.
I seemed to have had a decent connect last week, but it has gotten steadily worse in the past few days. Does anyone have any fixes they can recommend? Thanks!

    Hi,
Manually go to your Home Folder/Library/Preferences as Spotlight does not report on this folder.
Also delete com.apple.iChat.AIM.plist if it is an AIM/Apple Login
Or the one with Jabber in it if a Jabber Buddy list is the problem.
Do not delete this with the one mention by Carolyn as that will cause the Start Up Screens to Appear again.

  • Lion ichat freezing

Every application is running great/smoothly in Lion except for iChat.  When I am signed on, my Mac constantly locks up.  It seems as though any time someone signs on or off on my buddy list it locks up.  I have three (3) buddy lists in iChat: Facebook, GChat, and AIM.  Having an iChat conversation is nearly impossible without my mac freezing!  Has anyone else had this issue?  Does anyone know of a remedy?

    Hi,
IS this the only account in iChat that you use ?
Or do you have other Jabber or AIM based accounts as well ?
I have never seen an Account in iChat hold things up to the extent you get a spinning beach ball.
I would try these things first  (Some might need repeating to test effectively)
In the Finder use the Go Menu > Go to Folder
    Type in:-
~/Library/Preferences  (this Library is Invisible and this is the easiest access)
Find com.apple.ichat.Jabber.plist and drag it to the Trash.
Try Restarting iChat at this Point.
If that did not work repeat the above and then Open the Keychain Access item in the Applications /Utilities folder
Find the Facebook details in the lower left Panel.
Double click the line to display the Info panel.
Tick the Box to reveal the Password  (you get a Dialogue box to confirm via your Account Password and saying How long for)
    Is the Password correct ?
In the Info panel there is an Access Tab
In here, is it allowing iChat  (Allow All or it lists iChat if Restricted to certain Apps)
In Keychain Access check there are not two or more entries for your Facebook account.
(if you made a typo on one occasion it does not replace just the password but creates a new entry)
Delete any additional ones you don't need.
    Try iChat Again.
If that does not work delete the account in iChat.
Also delete the entry in KeyChain Access.
Add the Account back in to iChat BUT do NOT add the password.
This should be your [email protected]  The server is the last bit of that (chat.facebook.com) and the Port is 5222 which will automatically turn Off SSL
This will store the account and each time you start iChat it will ask for the Password  (that Pop up has a "Remember Me" option but don't use it yet)
Is iChat getting to ask you for the password at a normal sort of speed ?
Try Quitting iChat and running from the Launch process.
If you add the password in the Pop up does iChat slow down or make contact with the Facebook server at a proper speed ?
Hopefully by now you should know if it the name or the password that is slowing things up or discovered where the issue was.

  • Computer freezes when iTunes is started!

I have been searching for possible solutions of this problem for a long time but still haven't found anything really helpful. This issue should probably be dealt with by crew members of the Apple tech support. I want to try help them as much as I can. So, here is the common factors of this problem. Some people, as well as me, have an external hard drive plugged in when they start iTunes. I think that's the most significant feature I noticed. There are usually no other signs of that something is wrong. Computer just freezes when iTunes starts (maybe after a few seconds). Secondly, I noticed, that if I was working on the computer for quite a long time before launching iTunes, its almost for sure thats it will freeze my comp. If I start it just after booting the comp, it may work fine for a long time, maybe even without freezing.
I am very confused with this issue and I hope the members of the support will help solve it as soon as possible. I am seriously thinking of switching to another media player because I am quite fed up.

My iPhone 5 keeps freezing when I connect to wifi, not just freeze the wifi, but freezes the whole phone and have to hold home and lock button. Locks up completely and instantly when I turn on wifi and connect. Solutions?

    1.  If you are really on iOS 7.1, you may wish to try upgrading to 8.1.2 which is the latest (basing this on your signature).
    2.  If updating the phone doesn't help, is this only when you connect to a specific wifi network?  Or all wifi networks (including public with no password)?  If it is ALL wifi networks, you may have a hardware problem.  Genius bar would be the next step.

Why does my iPad keep freezing when watching programmes on itv player or you tube.

Try the basic troubleshooting tips and see if any of these help with the freezing issue.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Quit the apps. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. If you are watching the YouTube videos on Safari - this may help as well. Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data (orCache in iOS 4.3.5). Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • Acrobat Standard 8 freezes when scanning

I have been using Standard Version 8 for 4 years, scanning and saving multipage documents, including graphics and text.  Now it freezes after sending 12 pages through the scanner and before getting the dialog to choose between adding more sheets and finish scanning.  I think it will scan a one page document, but I don't know where the cut-off is as far as page numbers, if that is the issue.  Now I must end the process or the process tree and I don't know if that will create further problems.
I have just uninstalled and reinstalled the program and have the same issue.

    Hi,
I'd like to clarify some points. You use a digital ID to create a digital signature, not unlike how you use a pen to create (what we refer to as) a wet ink signature. When it comes to applying a digital signature to a document, you can sign just about any blob of electronic data. You can sign your e-mail or a MS Word document as well as a PDF file. The signature itself lives either in the document (that's how Acrobat does it when signing a PDF file), or it can be an external attachment (that's what the smime.p7s file is you might see attached to some e-mail messages).
Here is where I'm a bit confused. How many digital IDs do you have access to? If you only have one, does it cause Acrobat to lock up when signing a specific PDF file or when you try to sign any PDF file? Same question if you have more than one digital ID available to sign with, they all cause Acrobat to lock you when signing just one specifc file or any file? When you try to sign, are you signing an existing signature field, or are you creating a signature on the fly, be it either visible or invisible? If it is just one file that is causing the problems then that file is probably corrupt. If it's any file then it is a more systemic problem and I don't have an off the shelf answer for you.

  • Skype won't start up - freezes on sign in page

I had the issue of Skype not starting up and freeze on sign in page
I tried alll the steps listed in other posts on this topic but none of them worked,
..but I now have it up and running....
I deleted anything I could find to do with Skype - User/Library/Preferences/com.skype.skype.plist
    User/Library/ApplicationSupport/Skype (the whole folder)
    Skype itself from Applications
Removed iGlasses and its prefewrence fles
Changed default speech name to something other than what it was on
Restarted from an external boot disk and repaired permissions on the hard drive from disk utiility
Download and install latest verssion of Skype - but didn't open it....
Restarted again but this time in Safe Mode  (shift + S after the startup chime)
Then ran Skype, it allowed me to sign in and I let it catch up with all the messages/updates etc....
I then peformed a normal restart and when I opened Skype I was able to login normally..

You can then begin removing files.
The key thing to do here is find the file that was created to fill up all the remaining space on the drive and delete it.
This file was created solely so that it could be zeroed over, and it would have been deleted when the zeroing was complete. Because you interrupted the procedure, you're left with this big useless file on the drive, no free space, and OS X is unable to log you in because it can't perform the normal writing of files that it would normally do when you log on.
Delete this one file - I have no idea what it's called, so do some Goolging - and you'll be able to log in as normal. Sure you're short of space, but there's no need to delete any of your important photos, letters or email. Once you can log in again as normal Google "upgrade MacBook hard-drive" and spend like $50 on the required new disk, cloning across the old (but working) system.

  • CS4 Freezes When Deleting Files

I've had CS4 now for a few weeks and I'm finding that whenever I try to delete a .htm file, the program freezes. I've tried the idea of deleting that cache file in the configurations folder. I've even renamed my configuration folder so a new one would be rebuilt. Same thing with the preferences folder. Any ideas on why this is occurring?

I'm also getting frequent freezes when I try to open a folder in DW. I click on the little + sign and it just locks up. Very, very frustrating. I just upgrading from DW 8 to CS4 and right now, I'm instability like I never experienced in DW 8. Please help.
