IChat to Windows

I'm using iChat on a G4 and can video chat with other Windows PC users. When one particular friend using the latest version of AIM on a PC with a broadband connection sends me an invite to video chat and I accept, I get the message: Failed to start Video Chat because Friend did not respond.
The Connection Doctor says: 2006-02-22 10:33:36 +0000: Friend did not respond.Tried to send UDP SIP "invite" to the following IP addresses and ports: 70.195.182.52:5061.
I assume, because I am able to chat with other PCs, the problem is on this particular friend's end. What can I do? Can you send a link with simple instructions for him?
Thanks.

You can ask him which page he download from
Triton (Not useful) New Red speech bubble thingy logo.
Older 5.9 Version page Works wih iChat.
Needs setting up
Does he appear in your Buddy List with the new Red Speech Bubble ?
Or just the Running Man logo.

  • IChat chat window creates strange white bar in chat box when typing.

I made a topic about this before, but it was archived and not able to reply.
I wanted to include an image of the glitch. Here is a link to it.
    http://imgur.com/2YQd0.jpg
This is not an original screen shot, just a very close photoshopped version of it. Which looks exactly like what happens.
As you can see, there is a white bar that appears in iChat chat window after it gets a scroll bar. It appears for me after I type something (so the "..." bubble appears), then delete all of it (so the "..." bubble disappears). After the "..." bubble disappears, this is when I get this white bar at the bottom of the chat window, which disappears in a split second, almost like a flash.
I know this problem is really small, but it never existed in the pervious version of iChat. And the flashing white bar bothers me!! haha. Please fix this Apple! :P

This issue seems to happen regardless of other windows open. I tried resizing the box, I do not see any white. My background image tiles itself. Without a background, you will just have white anyway, so the white bar, if it does appear, is not visible by eye.
After replicating this issue myself again, I noticed this... The person you are chatting with must of responded at least once. Also, you must delete all the text you typed in the text area, not some of it. (You have to make your "..." bubble disappear from the chat window by deleting all of what you just typed.) Once your "..." bubble goes away, it is then where you see the white bar appear over where your "..." bubble just was. And it almost slides/pans down within the chat window.
Also I just noticed, that my whole background slides/pans downward with the white box. As the white box appears, it literally pushes my background image up and then it slides back into place as the white bar slides down and disappears.
By the way, this never happened on OSX 10.4 Tiger's version of iChat. I also believe it did not happen with Leopard as well, but I would have to check with that. But from what I've seen, this is definitely an issue that appeared in the newer version(s) of iChat.
I have recorded a video of the problem so you can see it in action. It should help explain what I just wrote. Here's the link. http://tinypic.com/player.php?v=20gd4hv&s=6
Right now it's to the point where I'm just curious to why it is happening. But I would like to see it go away.

  • HT3672 Theater Preview in FCP 7 not opening ICHAT dialog window

    Hi All,
Got a wierd bug it seems..  I have a NY office running multiple mac pro's and macbook pros.  I am trying to use the one way chat with the theater preview in FCP.
    ON MAC PRO: (6.7 / FCP 7.03 / ICHAT 5.03)
        1. log into Ichat
        2. I open a FCP project and choose view - ichat theater - start sharing
    NOTE:
on my laptop: i SEE  the Ichat Dialog box that says - Ichat theater is ready to begin
on my mac pro: I DO NOT SEE or EVER GET this dialog box.
I have tested and can do a straight chat so i believe it is something in FCP.
    Thoughts?

    Hi,
    Some questions remain the same.
Can that Mac Pro do iChat Theatre with other files ?
I test my Messages in Lion to iChat 5 in Snow Leopard using Bonjour
In Messages you just drag the File you want to the Video Chat window and use the Lower part of the then divided screen,
I do not have FCP but a Movie tends to start automatically  (no indication what is playing it)
A Keynote file opened the Keynote app and a separate preview window does open with Controls. It still tends to proceed automatically.
There seemed to be some adjustment to keep to the older 4:3 ration of iChat Chat windows despite my current Messages being able to do 16:9 ratio Chats.
Is the laptop essentially in 4:3 ratio ?
IS the Mac Pro Screen and camera able to do 16:9 ?
What ratio is the FCP file in ?
Essentially it should letter box 16:9 shown/used on a 4:3 Chat.
I would note though that the Preview window that appears is linked to the Keynote app  rather than the iChat/Messages app.
There also appears to be no control over the size or position (other than you can drag it about).
Check the Window menu of FCP and see if it lists the Preview window
I find Keynote is Open as far as the Preview window is the only Window open for the app.
Have you stayed at OS X 10.6.7 for FCP to work in that version rather than OS X 10.6.8 ? (the Last Update to Snow Leopard - it make no difference to the iChat version)

  • IChat AV & Windows OS

Dose iChat AV work with a Windows Operating System?
      Windows XP Pro

it works great actually. some times the audio can be a bit choppy, not as good as Mac2Mac iChat with iSight (but nothing else really is that good). its better than the logitech cams and ivisit that i used a few years ago. one day it was a little worse than others so we used skype for sound and yak4free for the video.
amazing what you have to do to make up for apples stubbornness in NOT making iChat for windows... maybe they are trying to make PC users jealous enough to switch... apple's profits are doing well, but i dont think that making crossplatform chatting difficult is the best strategy...

  • Is it possible to video ichat with windows?

    Hi,
I have a friend using a Windows XP pc and she would like to video conference with my Mac.
Is it possible for me to connect and have a video conference with a Windows XP guest?
    What software (application) is needed?
I am using iChat with my powermacG5, works great when I connect with other Mac.
    Thanks

    Hi
For AIM set-up for PC http://www.mvldesign.com/videoconferencetutorial.html#xp they must be using AIM5.9 and not AIM Triton.
You might have better success using Skype to a PC.
    For Skype for Mac http://www.skype.com/download/skype/macosx/videopreview.html
    For PC http://www.skype.com/download/skype/windows/helloagain.html

  • IChat new windows not showing.

iChat refuses to open any new messages windows (the one that asks accept, decline, block). Any idea why that might be happening??

    Hi,
Do you know what Service this is linked to ?
iChat 6 can have all Buddy List showing in one list which may mean you cannot tell who the IM are from. (or which Buddy List they are associated with)
Sometimes an issue like this can show up if you are using Spaces and are not in the Space that iChat is In.

  • Problem initiate AV chat with other ichat (both windows & Mac)..

I'm able to accept ichat AV from both windows (aim 5.9) and from os x user; however, whenever I initiate ichat connection to either mac or windows user, I keep getting the error:
"Failed to start video chat because user did not respond", but the user did respond..
I'm able to "accept" AV chat from other windows/mac user without any problem.
I've done the following so far, turn off firwall on my imac.. configure port forwarding on my 2wire router following the apple support article (tho, my windows machine is also behind this firewall and I was not able to initiate chat with the windows box).
I saw a previous discussion about this problem someone else has and the suggestion was to reboot the machine.. which I did that and it still didn't help. Oh, I did update to the most recent ichat program as well.
Any suggestion is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi Ralph,
I tried chatting with RjinWI last night and I was able to initiate an AV ichat with him (mac version) bu† I was not able to initaite AV ichat with RjinWI PC, I was no† able to initiate another AV ichat with another Mac user on the list (unfortunately, I forgot who that was) but I was able to initiate with ichatavtesting. My Buddies defintely can ichat with others and he may also initiate a chat to my imac.
Since then, I have upgraded my firmware which didn't help.. but a small break through was that after I reboot my imac (without having any program running on the imac), I started my ichat and I was then able to initiate AV chat with RjinWI PC.. but a few hours later (after I open my thunderbird, firefox).. I was having problem initiating AV chat with RjinWI PC again... pretty strange?
Since then, I restarted my imac again and now it's working again.. and I have both firefox and thunderbird open.. and AV chat with RjinWI PC is still working.
At least with this info, the problem might not be with my router afterall? I wonder if there is any program that might be blocking the port(s) or using the same ports (I read about the VOIP program issue with ichat, which I'm not using)? So far I have started opening one program at a time and see if I may duplicate the problem (at first I thought it might have been one of the widget program.. "doppler radar" and "live web cam" but I have disable and re-enabled them.. and yet my ichat is still functioning as we speak). If you have any other idea, please let me know. If I am able to gather more info.. I'll be sure to post more info. Thanks again.

  • Can you get iChat for windows or is it just for macs???

Is iChat just for mac's or can you get it for windows?? and if so how?

    Hi
    AIM 5.9 is here
They do need to be using XP
They do need to "tune" the camera and mic to the AIM Application
They need to allow the application as an exception through the XP firewall

  • IChat with windows friends

    Hello
I'm a very recent convert, win to mac (still use windows machine sometimes). I have a 20inch imac 2.16 ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2gb ram, LOVE it, runs Capture NX beautifully. Now to the point. My friends and family all use windows but do have an AIM account for the purpose of webchatting with me, we have followed all the instructions regarding ports and firewall that I could find for both platforms and I still can't webchat with them. The built in webcam is actually useless to me right now. Please!! is there any way to get it working?
iMac 20 Inch 2.16, Intel Core 2 Duo 2 GB RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Paul,
I understand your frustration. All I can say is that it works fine for me. The buddies I chat with on PCs all use AIM 5.9 and they were the ones that needed to do the tweaking (to their routers only). After configuring my router all worked fine with the default settings of iChat.
If you had successful chats with them before your switch to mac, then there is definitely some conflict. My guess is that it is something not set properly on their end.
I am by no means a programmer. I just want to make the most out of this excellent machine and have resorted to a (little) determination to get it up and running.
Is it really just a matter of your camera not functioning? Does the green light come on? What kind of router do you have? Are you on cable broadband or DSL. Who is your provider?
Email me and I'll send you my @mac screen name. Just click my name link in this reply and you'll know where to send it. I'd like to help you get this resolved. Most people really kind of give up on the whole process because of the necessary steps. And I in no way meant Windows is buggy. I believe what I said is that AIM 5.9 is buggy. iChat however has been highly reliable and consistent for me whether I chat mac to mac or mac to pc.
    Please give it a try,
    Martin J. Estrada

  • Closing ichat error windows

I made a script to close all iChat erorrs. It works fine when started as stand alone script, however when inserted in "auto accept.applescript" in event "on AV Chat ended" is does not work, It seems the number of ichat windows is zero.
    Any suggestion?
    tell application "System Events"
-- get rid of every possible error
display dialog "number of windows : " & (count of windows of application process "iChat") as text
repeat with myWindow in windows of application process "iChat"
-- display dialog "windownaam" & title of myWindow as text
repeat with myButton in buttons of myWindow
set myButtonTitle to title of myButton as text
if myButtonTitle is "OK" then click myButton
if myButtonTitle is "Don’t Send" then click myButton
    end repeat
    end repeat
repeat with myWindow in windows of application process "iChat"
repeat with mySheet in sheets of myWindow
repeat with myButton in buttons of mySheet
set myButtonTitle to title of myButton as text
if myButtonTitle is "OK" then click myButton
if myButtonTitle is "Don’t Send" then click myButton
    end repeat
    end repeat
    end repeat
    try
click button "OK" of window 1 of application process "UserNotificationCenter"
    end try
    end tell --"System Events"

    HI Ian,
What was the Triton beta does not work to IChat and infact is no longer available from AIM.
AIM 5.9 is still available and should have the camera and mic "tuned" to the App. (Press F£ and then scroll down the preferences to Live Video and select it.
Then press the Tuning buttoin to run the wizard.
The the App needs to allowed as an Exception through the XP firewall

At your end can you connect to other people ?

  • IChat with WINDOWS users

Unfortunately, I still have some friends who have Windows machines. I've chatted with some non-Mac users, but don't know how they're doing it.
Can a Windows user use an iSight?
What software do they need to connect the way we would connect with the buddy list on iChat?
I know they don't need a .mac account and can use AIM, but I don't know what to tell them to do about the camera and chat software. ???
    Thanks.

    HI Rick,
    This FAQ first.
    PC and iSight cameras
AIM 5.9 or Trillian Pro version at $25 for Video but larger pic upto full screen.

  • Ichat preference window not showing up

I want to create a new account with ichat, and hook it up to my gmail/google account.
However, when I open ichat the main window doesn't show up. I can see the menu bar with file, edit, view, buddies, video, format, window, and help. I tried bringing all windows to front but only my Bonjour list shows up. I never really used the program, but must have set up an account at some point even though I have no contacts. If I could just figure out how to create a new account that would be great, how can I get the main window to reappear when I open ichat?

    Hi,
    Welcome to the    Discussions
It is possible to Start up iChat the first time and click through all the Screens and you will have iChat started, possibly with only Bonjour set up.
It sounds like you have either done this or have any other Buddy List you have turned Off/Logged out.
    1) In the iChat Menu itself you have Accounts (Sub Menu)
Does this List anything other than the Bonjour Account ?
    2) Go to the iChat Menu > Preferences > Accounts pane.
In the List here on the left is anything listed other than the Bonjour Account ?
In either case select the account (In 1) it will add a tick and Log the account In.
In 2) You need to go to the Account Info tab and select the "Use this Account" box to Login.
If there is No Account you will need to do 3)
    3) Click the Plus Button at the bottom of the list in 2)
Providing you have a Screen Name ready you can choose from the top drop down the account type it is and enter the details required.
    a) Free AIM Names from here
    b) Free @Mac.com Name here
    c) You can register for a MobileMe trial but it required a Credit card upp front AND you have to Discontinue it yourself before the 60 days is up or you Get Charged (Trial Button is top right).
    d) You can use any Existing Google Mail ID once you have gone to your Google Account page and turned On the Talk Option
    e) You can use any Jabber ID you have. Most likely this is going to be gained in a third Party App as most Jabber Serves don't have Web Page registrations.

Just use AIM for windows and use [email protected] as your screen name and it will load your buddy list(there on the AIM server).
