Icloud stuck on estimating time remaining

I have yet to be able to backup to iCloud. Whenever I click on backup now, it goes to the 'estimating time remaining' /backing up spinning hourglass and stays there until i exit out. It will do that for hours.
iPhone 4, OS5, Plugged in to the wall and confirmation of charging icon, wi-fi up and running correctly, plenty of iCloud space available.
Help. thanks.

i would probably try forgetting your wifi network and rejoining. that error is almost always due to a bad wifi connection. you can, in fact, be connected to your wifi network, but if your phone isn't connected to the intranet, you're not going to get any information to transfer. you can also test my theory by temporarily turning off cellular data, then trying to get on the internet on your phone. if you're connected correctly to your intranet, the page won't load

  • FileVault 2 stuck on Estimating Time Remaining...

The prelude to this story is this one:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/20934844#20934844
So, I decided to try to encrypt my SSD which is the primary drive installed in the secondary slot (instead of the optical drive).
The FileVault 2 is stuck on Estimating Time Remaining... for 2 days now, so I guess it is not going anywhere.
    Any ideas?

I't also happened to me, you should go into safe mode and move the file com.apple.corestorage.corestoraged.plist to desktop. It is located on system/library/launchdaemons.
Then continue encryption and wait till its over. Then decrypt if you want.
    Hope it works

  • Can't restore from iCloud - verification error or stuck on estimating time remaining.

From yesterday 4PM I try to restore my iPhone from iCloud. I check icloud system status - everything is fine there.
    Problem messages:
    * Verification Error
    * Stuck on estimating time
    * Can't connect
I don't know what to do. All websites and services work fine on my 100Mb connection. So I guess this is an iCloud problem.
    iOS 8.1.2/iPhone 4S

This is more of an Apple ID problem than an iCloud problem.  If you choose Restore from iCloud Backup and entered your iCloud ID this obviously shouldn't have happened.  If your replacement phone is under warranty, contact Apple support here: http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/contact/.  If not, try contacting iTunes store support as they frequently deal with Apple ID problems.  You can reach them by email here: http://www.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html.

  • I created an iCloud account and also had to get more space after I have done the purchase, I am unable to backup my phone! I have a stable wifi connection at home and all I see for hours and hours is "Backing Up .. Estimating time remaining"!!!!! Plz help

I created an iCloud account and also had to get more space so after I have made the purchase, I am unable to backup my phone! I have a stable wifi connection at home and all I see for hours and hours is "Backing Up .. Estimating time remaining"!!!!! Plz help I'm unable to make the backup as I need to transfer all my data on my new iPhone 5S

This may be caused by a corrupt existing backup that needs to be deleted, or by data on your device that is causing the backup to fail.  To troubleshoot these, try deleting your last iCloud backup (if you have one) by turning off iCloud Backup in Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup, then tap Manage Storage, tap your device under Backups, then tap Delete Backup.  Then go back and turn iCloud Backup back on and try backing up again.
If it still won't back up, you may have an app or something in your camera roll that is causing the backup to fail.  To locate which one, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, tap the name of your device under Backups, under Backup Options tap Show All Apps, then turn them all to Off (including camera roll) and try backing up again.  If the backup is successful, then the camera roll and/or one of your apps is causing the backup to fail and you'll have to located by process of elimination. Turn the camera roll On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds, turn some of your apps to On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds again, turn some more apps to On then try again; repeat this process until it fails.  Eventually you'll be able to locate the problem app and exclude it from your backup.
In the meantime you can back up your phone to your computer by connect it, opening iTunes and going to File>Devices>Back Up.  Also be sure to transfer your purchases (File>Devices>Transfer Purchases).  Then set up your new phone and when given the option, choose Restore from iTunes Backup and follow the prompts to restore this backup to your new phone.  This will be much faster than using iCloud anyway.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
First check that your device is correctly connected to the wifi/internet (settings > wifi)
If your back up continually fails, you might try turning off back up on your mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup) and then deleting the backup file from iCloud by swiping the backup file on the mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup > manage…) and then turning back up on again.
If this doesn't help, try turning off some items for back up in a pattern to try to establish if your problem is being caused by specific data on your device.
Being able to back up to the cloud can be very useful, especially if you don't have access to a computer or have infrequent access to one, however unless you specifically need to use iCloud for back up, you will find backing up to iTunes significantly more convenient and possibly more reliable.

  • My Iphone 4 says "backed up - never". I am trying to back up to Icloud...it says iPhone plugged in, locked and connected to Wi-Fi.  It shows "Backing Up" ...slow.  Estimated time remaining.... (It shows no time).  How will I know when it is complete?

My iPhone 4 says "backed up-never".  I am trying to back up to Icloud..it says it will automatically backup when is plugged in, locked, and connected to Wi-Fi.  Does this mean I have to lock my phone?  It shows "backing up" & "estimating time remaining".....but it looks like it will never finish.  Can somebody please help me?  I do not have enough memory to update my phone, I do not want to lose all of my pics & videos....is there some way to save them ie., memory card?
I am truly ignorant with respect to this, but I was trying to video my grandson & it told my I was out of storage

You should import your photos and videos to your computer following the steps outlined in this guide: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.  After doing so you will be given the option to delete them from your phone to give you more space.  If you don't want to delete them all in this way, after importing them to your computer you can open your camera roll in the thumbnail view, tap Edit, tap all the photos and videos you want to delete from your phone, then tap Delete.
If you have never backed up your phone, and are having trouble backing up to iCloud, you should perform a manual backup on your computer.  To do this, connect your phone to your computer, open iTunes, right-click on the name of your phone on the left side and choose Back Up.  (If you have iTunes 11, first go to View>Show Sidebar.)
To back up to iCloud you need to be sure your phone is connected to wifi and your charger, then just press the power button to lock the screen (i.e., put it in "sleep" mode).  It should then back up automatically if you have turned on iCloud Backup in Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup (at the bottom).

You might try a forced shutdown to begin with, hold down the top and home buttons together until the device shuts down, then restart it.

  • Restoring iphone from backup estimating time remaining stuck

I have been updating my boyfriend's iphone.  It has not been updated for a while.  I backed up everything on itunes.  I then went to restore (the first time) and within 10-15 minutes it said there was 1 hour left, 2 hour left, 3 hours left.  I did something else for about 20/30 minutes, came back to my computer and it was asleep and everything had ended.  It did not finish.
I have now tried to restore a couple times and cannot get past the estimated time remaining.....  What do I do?  It's been "estimating time" for about a half hour.
    Please help.  Beyond frustrated.

Just got an Iphone 5, trying to restore it from my Iphone 4 backup. I just shows estimating time remaining for the past hour and a half. Might just leave it up and hopefully something will happen.

  • Installed Yosemite, now my MacBook Pro is running slow and the FileVault keeps saying estimating time remaining.

I installed Yosemite and since then the system has been running slow.  I chose to use FileVault and it says it's encrypting but keeps saying estimating time remaining.  I've tried repair permission and restarting my computer.  Saw some other threads with similar problem and ran diskutil cs list which showed 80% the first time and now says failed.  I also did an Entre Check and here are the results.

Please answer as many of the following questions as you can. You may already have answered some of them; in that case, there's no need to repeat the answers.
Restart the router and the broadband device, if they're separate. Any change?
Run Software Update and install all available updates for OS X or the computer's firmware. Any change?
Are you connected to Ethernet as well as Wi-Fi? If so, disconnect the Ethernet cable or adapter and test.
If possible, connect to the router with an Ethernet cable and turn off Wi-Fi. Any difference?
If you can connect to more than one network, are they all the same?
Are all network applications affected, or only some? If only some, which ones?
Is networking always the same, or is the problem intermittent?
Disconnect all other devices from the network. Any change?
If you're running a MacBook with the lid closed, open the lid. Any difference?
Start up in safe mode and test. Any difference?
Start up in Recovery mode. From the OS X Utilities screen, select Get Help Online. A clean copy of Safari will launch. No plugins, such as Flash, will be available. Any difference?
If possible, turn off Bluetooth and disconnect any USB 3 devices. Any difference?

  • Why does my cellphone keep saying that estimating time remaining when I try to upgrade the system?

Why does my cellphone keep saying that "estimating time remaining" when I try to upgrade the system?
Is there anyway to fix this situation?

    Hi Eric_Sun,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
You may want to update your iPhone using iTunes on a computer if your device only shows "estimating time remaining" when you try to update wirelessly:
If you can’t update wirelessly, or if you want to update with iTunes, follow these steps:
If you use your device's Personal Hotspot for your computer's Internet connection, update your device wirelessly or connect your computer to another network.
Install the latest version of iTunes on your computer.
Plug in your device to your computer.
    In iTunes, select your device.
In the Summary pane, click Check for Update.
    Click Download and Update.
If you see an error message while updating your device, you can learn how to resolve iOS update errors in iTunes.
You can find these steps here:
Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

  • Nokia Lumia 920 Battery estimated time remaining m...

This morning when I checked the battery info, it was at 39% with 31 days and  5 hours left…
So I checked it again closer to 1 PM and found it remaining at 39% with 38 days and 7 hours left.
Now the time is 10 PM and it still says 39%...  The estimated time remaining says more than 51 days.
Time since last charged says 2 days 14 hours (which sounds accurate as I recall myself charging it about 2.5 days ago)
I have attached 3 screenshots of what I see. Check the time stamps. They were taken just few mins apart.
    I’m assuming it’s a software bug, not a hardware issue…
Has anyone ever noticed any similar battery performance indicator issues? Just curious to know…
I’ve seen a lot of posts that says the battery would not last for few days. I have experienced the same myself. It used to drain very fast at the beginning. Couldn’t make it to last more than 24 hours after a “moderate” amount of usage . Yet noticed a gradual improvement with each use. Finally came to a point where I could manage to keep it for about 3 days or so in a row.
I do recall myself leaving the phone plugged into the charger for an extra hour or so… before unplugging. Since then I have made 26 calls, longest been 47 minutes. My emails are configured to be checked twice a day,  have received about 35 text messages, accessed about 7 static web pages, taken a few pictures, one GPS usage for guidance (about 15 mins long)  and used a few other apps. At home always connected to wi-fi. At times I see it been connected to 4G and the other times to 3G.
It almost looks like that estimate is just an extrapolation of the time since the last charge. Not reliable…
Would this “bug” kill my batter for good any sooner or would it degrade my battery life eventually?
Wonder if I should be worried… Few days ago the phone completely died. I thought the battery was dead, yet could not turn it on after charging it for 30 mins. Then read a few posts and tried a restart with just the volume lower button and the on/off button. Still wouldn’t turn on. Then I tried all three button (those 2 buttons and the camera button), which brought it back to life. All my custom installed apps remained the same.
Nokia N95 8GB was way reliable than this one.

Still 39% and now it says 54 days. I love my lumina 920. Now I love it more. I will post back when my battery needs a recharge.
Would u mind over charging ur battery for one or two hours and see if it gives similar results please?

  • Time Machine Backup seems to freeze after a few megabytes saying Estimating TIme Remaining

My MBP (mid 2009, osx10.8.5) seems to take forever to Time Machine Backup.  I'm backing up to an external (USB) disk that has plenty of memory.  THe backup starts (Status window opens), Status says "Backing up 1,314,593 items", climbs to about 310 MB of 325.01 GB and then just sits there with a line that says "Estimating time remaining".  I've let this sit for 2 hours so far and no other messages or errors. I haven't done this in a while and a previous , partial, Time Machine Backup was on this USB drive but I deleted everything on it because there wasn't enough space to do the new Time Machine Backup. It will have to do a full backup I'm sure, so I expect it to take a while to back up over 300GB but I don't see anything being copied to the backup disk, except the "Backups.backupdb" folder.  It stays at about 265MB.

Try D4/3 in the 1st linked article.

It can lose the network connection half way through a backup.
When you connect by ethernet (good to get that.. hope it is the thunderbolt to ethernet).. did you turn off the wireless.. this is important.. nothing changes if the wireless is still on.
I recommend you start over. Keep the wireless on for this part.
    Stop the backup.
    Factory reset the TC.
Redo the TC setup but this time use all short names, no spaces, pure alphanumeric.
I know the airport utility will suggest apple names..
    Fred Blog's Airport Time Capsule.
    Don't fall for it.
    Use TCgen5
For wireless name use TCwifi (or if you want more control, TC24ghz and change 5ghz to TC5ghz).
    Wipe the current TM setup.
Use A4 to reset it. http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
With wireless off now and just ethernet connection try the backup again.
No luck manually mount the TC hard disk in finder. Go/Connect to Server.
AFP://TCname.local (replace TCname with your new nice short name.. and use the domain which is local by default).
    OR
Use AFP://10.0.1.1 (Replace with whatever IP the TC uses.. but it must be static.. easy for router mode.. not so easy if the TC is in bridge mode).
The Computer will request the password.. type in whatever password you used for disk access.. by default it ithe device password. If you did not change it then default is public.
This setup has worked for other people.

I cannot guarantee you won't need to reboot the TC oocasionally as it does fall over.
There are other bits that I keep forgetting..
Make sure ipv6 is set to link-local for both wireless and ethernet in the computer.
Once you finish the main backup the short incremental backups can work over wireless.. so just turn wireless back on.

  • HT1766 I can't get my iPod to "backup" to iCloud. It started and told me the estimated time remaining. When I came back, it said it couldn't be completed because the verification request timed out. Can anyone tell me why this keeps happening?

I've tried several times to get it to Backup to iCloud. But every time I do, it will start and say it is "backing up". Then after a few minutes, it tells me that the backup could not be completed because the verification timed out. Can anyone tell me how to fix this?

I suggest that you Contact Customer Care - click on the Still need help? button to chat with an agent.

  • My Time Capsule won't back up. It's stuck on 'calculating time remaining'. Any ideas?

My Time Capsule started playing up again lately, it simply won't back up and it appears that nothing is actually backed up on it at all. I've had it for over two years and have had trouble with it in the past. I just wonder if it is faulty. Do I need to take it into an Apple shop to get techinical assistance or is it something I'm doing wrong with the back-ups?

If you live near an apple store I am sure a Genius can check it for you.. but unless it brings up a fault condition, I doubt it is faulty.
The TC does nothing at all.. really it is a hard disk in a router.
TM is software on the computer and it can have loads of issues.
I strongly recommend using the info from pondini to help you analyse the problem.
I also recommend you download and try out some other backup utilities. The plain fact of it, TM is too complicated for its own good.
A simple way to check is to plug a USB drive into the computer and make a Time Machine backup to that drive instead of the TC.. if it works. the issue is more likely the network than anything.. and with each update more and more network problems are creeping in.
From your profile you are using Snow Leopard.. which was highly stable and reliable.. but my guess is the latest acting up is because you installed Mavericks???
    TM widget. A1

Because otherwise you have no idea what TM is actually doing.
A4, do a full TM reset.
A5 because long prep times are often the result of corrupt drives.
It can also be network.. is the TC plugged in by ethernet to the main router.. and by ethernet to the computer. If it is wireless joining the network, it will never be reliable.
