Iconfied Java Program as daemon at right bottom in win platform

In My java application, I want make the JFrame not visible when it is iconfied, but still can been shown by click on the right of the task bar.
In a word, I just want it be hidden in window platform
So what should I do?
Thanks in advanced

I think I just read that SWT is able to do so.
With just swing or awt, you can't.
-T-
P.S.: Yes there is a reason why swing and awt don't support it. Do a search, there have been very elaborate threads on this topic.

  • Viewing a HTML document in my Java program

    Hi,
    My Java program has a JTextPane that can display plain text or HTML documents. This program can mark up certain parts of the document to draw the user's attention.
    However, I am having problems when it comes to marking up some of the HTML documents. When they are first loaded onto the JTextPane, they appear fine. When I then run the method to apply the mark up styles, I notice that the text turns the same color as the background after a certain point - making it impossible to see the document or markup.
    The HTML (or text) document on display is made into a StyledDocument. And this is how the View for the HTML documents is created:
    HTMLEditorKit htmledkit = new HTMLEditorKit();
    ViewFactory myHTMLViewFactory = htmledkit.getViewFactory();
    return myHTMLViewFactory.create(elem);
    Note that elem is an Element -.-
    - I tried modifying the color tags in the HTML document, but even when I made the text black and the background white, the text still goes white. If it's a black background, the text goes black, etc. The markup style is actually trying to turn parts of the text red - and it works almost all of the time, apart from these certain documents.
    - I then tried applying my own style whenever a HTML document is loaded in, in the hope that I could force the background white and text black, regardless of the tags:
    MutableAttributeSet att = new SimpleAttributeSet();
    StyleConstants.setForeground(att,Color.black);
    StyleConstants.setBackground(att, Color.white);
    doc.setCharacterAttributes(0, doc.getLength(), att, false);
    The resulting document display kept the original HTML background color, but wherever there was text it looked like someone had run a highlighter over it to change the background white and text black. Kinda ugly! And it still didn't work - come markup time this style was ignored after a certain point.
    - This is one of the HTML documents that causes the problem:
    <html>
    <head>
         <link rel="STYLESHEET" type="text/css" href="mystyle.css">
         <title>My Document</title>
    </head>
    In the body tag:
    <table>
    table here... this displays fine
    </table>
    And here is the problem point:
    <table width=100% cellspacing=0 cellpadding=0>
    <tr>
    <td>
    <table width=100% cellspacing=0 cellpadding=0 style="padding: 3px; padding-top: 6px; padding-bottom: 6px;">
    <tr>
    <td width=100% style=" padding-left: 6px; padding-right: 6px;">
    <table class=pane cellpadding=0 cellspacing=0>
    <tr>
    <td width=100% class=panetitlebox align=Center >
    This is the last text that gets displayed! After this sentence, text goes same color as background.
    </td>
    </tr>
    <tr height=100% valign=top>
    <td class=panebox colspan=2 align=Left style="padding: 0px; border: solid 1px; border-top: none;">
    <table width=100% cellspacing=0 cellpadding=0>
    <tr>
    <td class=content align=Left style="padding: 4px; background: transparent;">
    <b>Bold text that doesn't show</b> More text that doesn't show
    And so on....
    In the header tag of another HTML document that has the same problem, it says it is HTML version 4.0. I have looked up the Java API and found that the javax.swing.text.html package is still 'migrating' towards HTML 4.0 and only supports HTML version 3.2. (Even in the API for Java 1.5 beta, although I use Java 1.4.2)
    So I assume that Java just can't handle my documents! I also think that most of these HTML documents were generated by a program (I think I saw Frontpage in one of the document's meta tags), because when I make my own HTML it doesn't have the problem.
    But it would be nice if my Java program can support these documents, so does anyone have any suggestions as to how I could get these documents to display properly once I apply mark up styles?
    If I haven't explained something properly, I will clarify as it is a complicated program, and I've been driving myself crazy with this problem for several days!

    I was looking through the HTML document removing pieces of code to see where the problem was. I removed all code relating to styles, alignment, width, padding etc, with no luck. The document has several tables, many of them nested, so I added some comments to see where each started and ended. After I added the comments, I checked the document in my Java program again, ran the mark up styles, and it suddenly worked! So I removed each comment one by one, checking each time, until I found the one that made it work. I then tried typing in the same spot, adding an extra space, moving the <tr> tag onto the same line, but only the HTML comment made it work. Here is the part of the document where I added the comment (it's in bold)
    This is the last text that gets displayed! After this
    sentence, text goes same color as background.
    </td>
    </tr>
    <tr height=100% valign=top>
    <td class=panebox colspan=2 align=Left style="padding:
    0px; border: solid 1px; border-top: none;">
    <table width=100% cellspacing=0 cellpadding=0> <!-- This comment makes the document display fine after markup -->
    <tr>
    <td class=content align=Left style="padding: 4px;
    background: transparent;">
    <b>Bold text that doesn't show</b> More text that
    doesn't showDoes anyone know WHY this is happening? It's so weird. I thought if it was something more obvious, like styles, I could just get my program to remove them when reading in the document. But added HTML comments????
    Thank you ^_^

  • ORA-28000 in Java program while account is not actually locked

    Hi all,
    we got error ORA-28000: the account is locked in Java program which connects to Oracle.
    But account is not locked, 'cause we can log in using Oracle SQL Developer.
    What can be wrong?

    I would bet my bottom dollar that you are not logging in to the same account in the same database when you connect via SQL Developer that the Java application is connecting to.  Perhaps there is a difference in the TNS configuration the two tools are using that makes it look like they should be connecting to the same database.  Perhaps the Java application is not using the username that you expect, etc.
    Have you enabled auditing of both successful and failed connections to this database to see whether you see both connections and whether they are using the same account?
    I suppose it is possible that you've found a bug that needs to be reported to Oracle Support where an incorrect error message is returned.  But it is vastly more likely that Oracle is right and you've made a mistake.

  • Running a java program a set number of times

    This is a general question. Is it possible to make a java program run only 5 times for the sake of arguement.
    Basically I want to write a program that will give the user some flexibility when it will actually run another Java program, but I only want them to be able to say "not now' for a set number of times. When the last time comes the other program will launch. I was initially thinking of the Do Whilw loop, but this needs to work when the program is restarted.
    Program starts, it has 5 times it will run before it does something else(doesn't really matter now I think). User takes option "Not Now" and the program ends, but warns the user this will run 4 more times before you will need to do something.
    This process will repeat until the user takes the option "Ok install now" or the time limit expires and the install occurs anyway. Can someone point me in the right direction.

    ok I see so it's like one those programs that you download for free on the internet and they give you a set amount times to use it before you have to pay for it. but in this case when the number of times you use it equals 5 (or when the user clicks ok) a different java app will open automatically.
    My first thought would be to Write a Serialized object to disk using objectOutputStream that stores the number of times the application has been opened. and each time the program runs it checks for the serialized object and then you can do something like what I posted before. of course if were worried about security the user could always look for the object and erase it, if so then I guess we would have to come up with another plan of attack
    Hope this helps

    Hi,
    Earlier i faced the same exception when i tried to call the UME form Standalone java application,To resolve this i used stateless session bean approach. i follow the Below Mentioned Steps,
    1:-- create an J2EE -- EJB module project.
    2:-- Create stateless session bean and define the require methods ,implement Local and remote interface methods  in your bean class.
    3:-- refer the UME apis in EJB Projects build path.
    4:-- Call UME in Bean class methods.Build the EJB project and Archive.
    5:--Now create an Enterprise application Project ,Include the EJB module project to your EA Project by right clicking on EA project.Build EA project and EAR file
    6:--Deploy the EAR file on your server.
    7:--Now from your standalone java application include these two projects in Project tab of your Application.
    8:--Lookup the stateless session bean in your java class by its default JNDI name ,Obtain remote or local Home interface,And execute the BEAN Method which deals with UME.
    You can also refer this tutorial in some parts of it UME apis(like IUser,UMFactory) are used in Servelets and EJB ,You can download this tutorial source from SDN for your reference.

  • How to submit a HTTP Request from a Java Program

    I am working on an web based application where in I need to submit the HttpRequest through a Java Program and not through browser. Moreover my intent is just to submit the HttpRequest. I donot want to wait for the response to come back. I have used the URL Connection class to do the same and I am trying to post this request. The contents of the methods that I am using are as below:-
    public void doPost(URL url, String inputXMLString) throws IOException
              //Create URLConnection based on the passed URL
              URLConnection connection = url.openConnection();
              connection.setDoOutput(true);
              connection.setDoInput(false);
              connection.setUseCaches(false);
              connection.setAllowUserInteraction(false);
              connection.setRequestProperty("Content-type", "application/x-www-form-
    urlencoded");
              //Get the Connection's output stream and write the request to it.
              PrintWriter out = new PrintWriter(connection.getOutputStream());
              out.print("&ena-request-input=" + URLEncoder.encode(inputXMLString));
              out.flush();
              out.close();
    Call to the above method does not invoke the URL I am intending to submit the request at.
    Can anybody give me the clue....................................................?

    I agree with the advice to launch a new thread to read and ignore the response. I don't think you should have to do it to make it work, but it's worth trying for two reasons:
    1) If it turns out it does make it work, well, then either you can leave it that way, or use that as a clue to help figure out how to make it work the way you want.
    2) There may be an error message there that will give you an idea why it's not working.
    When you say it's not invoking the servlet, what does that mean, and how do you know? Is it just that the final results aren't being seen? Put a bunch of logging statements in the servlet. It could be that it's getting hit, but you're corrupting the string you're building, or sending some extra junk that it can't handle. Spit out a log statement from the start of doPost, to see if it's even getting there. Then log the parameter. Enclose the output in quotes or braces or something to make sure there's not extra junk. I've had XML docs not parse because there was a blank line at the beginning.
    If it works in the browser but not from your standalone app, then you need to have the servlet tell what difference it sees in the two cases. Print out headers, other params, everything you can think of.
    Re-read the docs for URL, HttpURL, whatever, to make sure you're doing all the right steps in the right order. Make a servlet that just takes a single, simple param=value via POST and see if you can get that to work.

  • Java program not updating in correct sequence in applet

    Greetings,
    I have a java program with interactive graphic components. After completely writing the program, I create two shells ( or handle): an application shell with JFrame and an applet shell with JApplet. The application version of the program works fine. But the applet version skips some (middle) steps in the painting process when responding to user inputs.
    Does anyone have any ideas as to what's going on?
    I am not able to embed code snippets because my Internet has not being working and am finger typing this on my cellphone.
    Thanks for any help.

    My cable person won't come before Monday so I am struggling for now. Thanks for the replies, though.
    More info:
    1) both shells are extremely basic. They both simply add the drawing panel like so:
    DrawingPane drawingPanel = new DrawingPanel();
    add(drawingPanel);//frame.add for application
    the application uses statc main; the applet uses init. Nothing more.
    2) the program paints the hands and fingers of a stick figure red or green dependring on which foot of the figure is clicked.
    3) the application version works completely
    4) the applet version updates the right hand the first time; but not on subsequent clicks. More mysteriously, although it skips the hand, it still go on to update the fingers.
    5) No I don't know about event threads yet.
    Thanks.

  • New TO JAVA Programming

    Dear Forummembers,
    I am student doing postgraduate studies in IT.i have some queries related to one of my programming staff.i am very much new into Java programming and i am finding it a bit difficult to handle this program.The synopsis of the program is given below -
    You are required to design and code an object-oriented java program to process bookings for a theatre perfomance.
    Your program will read from a data file containing specifications of the performance,including the names of the theatre, the play and its author and the layout of the theatre consisting of the number of seats in each row.
    It will then run a menu driven operation to accept theatre bookings or display the current
    status of seating in the theatre.
    The name of the file containing the details of the performance and the theatre should be
    provided at the command line, eg by running the program with the command:
    java Booking Theatre.txt
    where Theare.txt represents an example of the data file.
    A possible data file is:
    Opera
    U and Me
    Jennifer Aniston
    5 10 10 11 12 13 14
    The data provided is as follows
    Line 1
    Name of the Theatre
    Line 2
    Name of the play being performed
    Line 3
    Name of the author of the play being performed
    Line 4
    A list of the lengths (number of seats) of each row in the theatre, from front to
    back.
    The program must start by reading this file, storing all the appropriate parameters and
    establishing an object to accept bookings for this performance with all details for the theatre
    and performance.
    The program should then start a loop in which a menu is presented to the user, eg:
    Select from the following:
    B - Book seats
    T - Display Theatre bookings
    Q - Quit from the program
    Enter your choice:
    And keep performing selected operations until the users selects the quit option, when the
    program should terminate.
    T - Display Theatre bookings
    The Display Theatre Bookings option should display a plan of the theatre. Every available
    seat should be displayed containing its identification, while reserved seats should contain an
    Rows in each theatre are indicated by letters starting from A at the front. Seats are
    numbered from left to right starting from 1. A typical seat in the theatre might be designated
    D12, representing seat 12 in row D.
    B - Book seats
    The booking of seats is to offer a number of different options.
    First the customer must be asked how many adjacent seats are
    required. Then start a loop offering a further menu of choices:
    Enter one of the following:
    The first seat of a selected series, eg D12
    A preferred row letter, eg F
    A ? to have the first available sequence selected for you
    A # to see a display of all available seats
    A 0 to cancel your attempt to book seats
    Enter your selection:
    1. If the user enters a seat indentifier such B6, The program should attempt to
    reserve the required seats starting from that seat. For example if 4 seats are
    required from B6, seats B6, B7, B8 and B9 should be reserved for the customer,
    with a message confirming the reservation and specifying the seats reserved..
    Before this booking can take place, some testing is required. Firstly, the row
    letter must be a valid row. Then the seat number must be within the seats in the
    row and such that the 4 seats would not go beyond the end of the row. The
    program must then check that none of the required seats is already reserved.
    If the seats are invalid or already reserved, no reservation should be made and the
    booking menu should be repeated to give the customer a further chance to book
    seats.
    If the reservation is successful, return to the main menu.
    2. The user can also simply enter a row letter, eg B.IN this case, the program should
    first check that the letter is a valid row and then offer the user in turn each
    adjacent block of the required size in the specified row and for each ask whether
    the customer wants to take them. Using the partly booked theatre layout above, if
    the customer wanted 2 seats from row B, the customer should be offered first:
    Seats B5 to B6
    then if the customer does not want them:
    Seats B10 to B11
    and finally
    Seats B11 to B12
    If the customer selects a block of seats, then return to the main menu. If none are
    selected, or there is no block of the required size available in the row, then report
    that no further blocks of the required size are available in the row and repeat the
    booking menu.
    3. If the user enters a ? the program should offer the customer every block of seats
    of the required size in the whole theatre. This process should start from the first
    row and proceed back a row at a time. For example, again using the partially
    booked theatre shown above, if the user requested 9 seats, the program should
    offer in turn:
    Seats A1 to A9
    Seats C1 to C9
    Seats C2 to C10
    Seats E3 to E11
    Seats E4 to E12
    If the customer selects a block of seats, then return to the main menu. If none are
    selected, or there is no block of the required size available in the whole theatre,
    then report that no further blocks of the required size are available and repeat the
    booking menu.
    4. If the user enters a # the program should display the current status of the seating
    in the theatre, exactly the same as for the T option from the main menu and then
    repeat the booking menu.
    5. If the user enters a 0 (zero), the program should exit from the booking menu back
    to the main menu. If for example the user wanted 9 seats and no block of 9 was
    left in the theatre, he would need to make two separate smaller bookings.
    The program should perform limited data validation in the booking process. If a single
    character other than 0, ? and # is entered, it should be treated as a row letter and then tested
    for falling within the range of valid rows, eg A to H in the example above. Any invalid row
    letters should be rejected.
    If more than one character is entered, the first character should be tested as a valid row letter,
    and the numeric part should be tested for falling within the given row. You are NOT
    required to test for valid numeric input as this would require the use of Exception handling.
    You are provided with a class file:
    Pad.java
    containing methods that can be used for neat alignment of the seat identifiers in the theatre
    plan.
    File Processing
    The file to be read must be opened within the program and if the named file does not exist, a
    FileNotFoundException will be generated. It is desirable that this Exception be caught and
    a corrected file name should be asked for.
    This is not required for this assignment, as Exception handling has not been covered in this
    Unit. It will be acceptable if the method simply throws IOException in its heading.
    The only checking that is required is to make sure that the user does supply a file on the
    command line, containing details of the performance. This can be tested for by checking the
    length of the parameter array args. The array length should be 1. If not, display an error
    message telling the user the correct way to run the program and then terminate the program
    System.exit(0);
    The file should be closed after reading is completed.
    Program Requirements
    You are expected to create at least three classes in developing a solution to this problem.
    There should be an outer driving class, a class to represent the theatre performance and its
    bookings and a class to represent a single row within the theatre.
    You will also need to use arrays at two levels. You will need an array of Rows in the Theatre
    class.
    Each Row object will need an array of seats to keep track of which seats have been reserved.
    Your outer driving class should be called BookingOffice and should be submitted in a file named BookingOffice.java
    Your second, third and any additional classes, should be submitted in separate files, each
    class in a .java file named with the same name as the class
    I am also very sorry to give such a long description.but i mainly want to know how to approach for this program.
    also how to designate each row about it's column while it is being read from the text file, how to store it, how to denote first row as row A(second row as row B and so on) and WHICH CLASS WILL PERFORM WHICH OPERATIONS.
    pls do give a rough guideline about designing each class and it's reponsibilty.
    thanking u and looking forward for your help,
    sincerely
    RK

    yes i do know that........but can u ppl pls mention
    atleast what classes shud i consider and what will be
    the functions of each class?No, sorry. Maybe somebody else will, but in general, this is not a good question for this forum. It's too broad, and the question you're asking is an overall problem solving approach that you should be familiar with at this point.
    These forums are best suited to more specific questions. "How do I approach this homework?" is not something that most people are willing or able to answer in a forum like this.

  • Problem while calling a Webservice from a Stand alone java program

    Hello Everyone,
    I am using a java program to call a webservice as follows. For this I have generated the client proxy definition for Stand alone proxy using NWDS.

    Hi Abinash,
    I have the same problem. Have you solve that problem?
    I am using a java program to call a webservice too. And I have generated the client proxy definition for Stand alone proxy using NWDS. When I call the method of the webservice I am getting the correct result but along with the result I am getting one error and one warning message in the output.
    The java code to call the webservice is as follows.
    MIDadosPessoaisSyncService service = new MIDadosPessoaisSyncServiceImpl();
    MIDadosPessoaisSync port = service.getLogicalPort("MIDadosPessoaisSyncPort");
    port._setProperty("javax.xml.rpc.security.auth.username","xpto");
    port._setProperty("javax.xml.rpc.security.auth.password","xpto");
    String out = port.MIDadosPessoaisSync("xpto", "xpto");
    System.out.println(out);
    The result I am getting is :
    Warning ! Protocol Implementation [com.sap.engine.services.webservices.jaxrpc.wsdl2java.features.builtin.MessageIdProtocol] could not be loaded (NoClassDefFoundError) !
    Error Message is :com/sap/guid/GUIDGeneratorFactory
    <b>The result of the WS is correct!!!</b>
    The Java project does not have any warning. But the stand alone proxy project has following warnings associated with it.
    This method has a constructor name     MIDadosPessoaisSync.java
    The import javax.xml.rpc.holders is never used     MIDadosPessoaisSyncBindingStub.java
    The import javax.xml.rpc.encoding is never used     MIDadosPessoaisSyncBindingStub.java
    The constructor BaseRuntimeException(ResourceAccessor, String, Throwable) is deprecated     MIDadosPessoaisSyncBindingStub.java
    It is very similar with your problem, could you help me?

  • Running the Java program as service.

    Hi,
    I want to create have java program, which runs continously. This would hit check a table in Database for any new records and if there is anything it would post a message to another service. It would keep track of how many messages were posted and how many were completed at any point of time.I should have the ability to stop this service. When a stop sequence is initiated, it should wait till all the messages are processed and shutdown. I am looking for inputs on how to invoke the java program as service and the second part (stopping the service). I dont want to Java wrapper service or commons daemon api. I am on JDK 1.4.2
    Thanks in Advance.
    Regards,
    Arul.

    Do you want to write a daemon? I dont think you can do it without some explicit OS support..
    Well, lemme know if you find a way

  • Process name representation in a LINUX machine for a JAVA program running..

    Hi,
    We are using an Intel machine loaded with Red Hat Linux 7.2 OS to run JAVA programs. We have a requirement to calculate the CPU and MEMORY usage for each JAVA program running. Unfortunately when a java program is run say "java ESR" and we run a ps -ef | grep -i java, it is shown as hkumar 2847 2799 0 19:15 pts/3 00:00:00 /usr/java/jdk1.3.1_03/bin/i386/n

    instead of the actual name of the program ie. ESR.
    Does anybody know why this happens? Is there a way out to ensure that "ps -ef | grep java" gives the actual name of the java program being RUN?
    Thanks in advance,
    Harish

    You have less chance to identify which programm that VM instance is running right now.
    But you could (as we do) keep track of your programs if you save the process-id when you start the program.
    We need this to shut down running java batch programs but you could find out the used system resources with this way as well...

  • Start a java program from an FMB then read and write some variables

    Hello,
    I am trying to see whether the following setup works:
    item A, B, D and Button Z are on a Forms Canvas.
    User clicks on Button Z. This will launch a java program (Myprog class).
    Myprog main will read values in item A and B, run some calculation and then will return it back to our forms module and then will be displayed in item D.
    I have read about PL/SQL wrapper but the way I am looking at my setup is that my Forms module will be just the GUI interface.
    Any ideas ?

    main thing: a JAVA class that will take some inputs and will output some results and messages.
    Prob: I do not want to use swing or any other GUI builder to make a nice GUI for my JAVA class.
    What I want: I know how to use Forms. As such, I just want to put together a quick interface (mymodule.fmb) that when executed will allow the user to click on a button to start the java process and then see the results and error messages.
    Why I don't want to go through SWING: my main prob is to get the java class executed ( which is fine right now thru command line) by other users thru a GUI interface. I do not have time to go thru SWING.
    From the paper I mentioned, I think the PJC is the way to go. Can you please confirm ?
    Thanks.

  • Using a java program to fill in forms using information from a spreadsheet

    I had an idea to "automate" some data entry at work and need to know if my idea is feasible with Java. Here is the back story:
    I work on a research project and we have all of our contact data in an Excel spreadsheet (I know access may be better for this but for "political reasons" I just set it up in Excel). Every day we need to pay participants and this is done through a third party website. When the participant is new to this website we need to fill in all their personal information via a form on the webpage. Since we already have all their information stored in a spreadsheet, I was thinking we could create a little program that pulls the data from the excel sheet and inserts it into the form fields.
    Can this be done with a simple java program?
    Thank you for any help!

    Can this be done with a java program?Yes. You could certainly have your page upload the spreadsheet to your server, and you could certainly have your server program attempt to extract the data from Excel using Apache POI or JExcel or something like that. But you have to be prepared for people to upload the wrong file, or the right file in which the users have chosen unusual date formats, and so on. You could make things easier by distributing a spreadsheet which is locked down so that the users can only enter the information in specific places and specific formats, but it looks like you have missed that opportunity too.
