Identifying primery and secondary Indexes in ABAP Programs

i have used primary Index and Secondary Indexes in my ABAP program. my question is i want to identify Indexes which i used in my programs. how can i identify them? is there any method.tell me with great details.

Switch on SQL trace (ST05), run the program, study the SQL trace.

A difference is made between Primary & Secondary indexes to a table. the primary index consists of the key fields of the table and a pointer to the non-keys-fields of the table. The Primary index is generated automatically when a table is created and is created in the datebase as the same times as the table. It is also possible to define further indexes to a table in the ABAP/4 dictionary, which are then referred to as Secondary indexes.
Always it is not mandatory that an index should have all the key fields of a table. To see the index of a table
goto SE11->specify table name->click on the indexes... button on the application toolbar.
Based on your requirement you can you any of those index fields in the where clause of your query. Always its a better practice to use the index fields in the order specified. While selecting the records from a table it is always better to select the fields in the same order as specified in the table.

Index in ABAP program

Hi Guys,
I have a problem with index. I created index on VBRK table with fieldsd VKORG & FKDAT and in selection query i am using only these two fields in where condition.
Most of the times the application is running perfectly. But some times it is running too long and giving a dump.
I checked with basis & dba team, they are saying it is running on different index when it is giving a dump i.e., it is executing on different index some times.
Can anybody give me a suggestion why it is taking a different index?
Or is there any chance to give a HINT in select statement in ABAP or specifically mension the index name in select statement?

Hi,
this may occur when you are selecting on several different fields, not only those in the secondary index.
If too many fields are involved, the optimizer may not find the best index any more.
Possible reasons:
- table statistics are not up to date
- bug in the database software (Oracle 10 had some of those...)
- bad ABAP coding
Yes, you can use a hint to force the database to use a certain index, if you know what you're doing. But keep in mind that you are not database-independent any more with your code.
I have done this successfully with the BKPF table (90 million entries in our box...)

Now we r looking for the usage of " BIT ", keyword. so , kindly provide any program or code using this key word.

The data object byte_string must be byte-type. The statement reads the bit at the bit position BITPOS of the variable byte_string and assigns its value to the variable val. A default mode can be specified if required *

What on earth are you testing? That ABAP still works? I think SAP might have run that through rigourous testing themselves.
If you want sample code, why not read the ABAP help, and work some out for yourself?

How to get a parameter from BPC and use it in ABAP program

Hello gurus!
I got a problem...
SAP BPC will send parameters such as year, division, category, company code and so on via script logic to SAP BW.
I need to get these parameters from BPC and use them in a ABAP program as a filter.
This ABAP program will do several routines and return new values to BPC. It must be made on ABAP and I need to filter data to avoid performance issues.
Does anybody knows how to do it? or have a example of it?

Hello, I'm looking for a suggest.
I need to pass two parameters (users can input them in a data manager package in bpc) to a BAdI.
In this BAdI I write a code that store those parameters in a InfoObject.
The problem is:
- one parameter is for CATEGORY value. CATEGORY is a dimension of the application and I read the value with a code like this:
      READ TABLE it_cv INTO l_s_it_cv
           WITH TABLE KEY dim_upper_case = 'C_CATEGORY'.
- other parameter is a generic DATE. this parameter is not a dimension of the application and I don't know how I can retrieve this value in BAdI.
      READ TABLE it_cv INTO l_s_it_cv
           WITH TABLE KEY dim_upper_case = '.....'.
The data manager dynamic script is:
PROMPT(SELECTINPUT,,,,"%CATEGORY_DIM%")
PROMPT(TEXT,%SELECTED_DAY%,"Write the date (format YYYYMMDD)",)
I also have a dynamic constant that assign the name %CATEGORY_DIM% to "C_CATEGORY" value.
Can anyone help me?

How can user attach file to interactive form, and be read by abap program?

Hello,
I created an abap interactive form, sent to the user, then user fills out the form fields, then it is uploaded back to sap, then my program reads this data and process it.
It works.
Now I want users to be able to attach any file they want, and the abap program to extract this file out of the PDF, to put it into SAP (or anywhere).
I succeeded in attaching a file, I can "see" it via function module get_annotations, but I get the file in compressed form by Adobe (filter="FlateDecode").
Do you know how to unzip the file, or is there another way to attach files in adobe reader/extract them via abap?
I use acrobat reader 8.1.2

Below is the xml obtained by GET_ANNOTATIONS. We see that there are other text annotations, and that the attached file has {length="98005"}, though real file (before "attach file" to the PDF, and also after "detach file") has length 111 995 bytes. It's why I deduced that there is a compression (I also tried to extract it as-is and open it with adobe but it doesn't work.

Data deletion on primary index and secondary index

Hello, I have a question regarding data deletion in BDB-JE.
Suppose I have an Entity class which has a primary index and a secondary index, the secondary key does not have outer related entity. So when I want to delete this entity, is it correct we only need to remove the entity from primary index? or I also need to do it for secondary index or just remove it from secondary index and internally BDB_JE will remove it from primary index?

You can delete an Entity using the delete method for primary index or the secondary index. When an entity is deleted, secondary index records are automatically deleted. The primary and secondary indices are always kept in sync.

Hi,
this forces the oracle database to use index Z01 of table RESB when processing the select statement. If you do not add the hint, the optimizer of the database decides which index to pick. In some cases, the automatically chosen index is not the best one.

How to combine spatial and secondary index, when extracting?

vers.: (32 bit) Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.1.0 - Production on Sun/SunOS 5.8 (64 bit)
In our DataWarehouse the table topo_geodata stores all topographic data in Denmark. The table has a spatial index (QT) on its SDO_geometry column named utm_geo as well as a primary key on the column topo_geo_id and 4 secondary indexes on other columns.
The query to find all geomtries in a given munipalicy is as follows
select count(*) as antal_AnyInteract_topo_geodata
from topo_geodata k, topo_geodata tg
where SDO_RELATE(tg.utm_geo, k.utm_geo, 'mask=AnyInteract querytype= WINDOW') = 'TRUE'
and k.topo_geo_id = 961 -- geometry of a municipality
and it returns a count of 19445 in 4 minuttes. However our users are only interested in extracting certain object types, that is a very small subselection of the 19445 geometries. The subselection is typically based on some value or a range of values in the secondary indexed columns.
Question: How can I make the SELECT use a combination of the spatial index index and a secondary index?
Only when a pinpoint 1 particular value of the primary key do I get fast response. When pinpointing 1 value in a secondary index as in
select count(*) as antal1
from topo_geodata k, topo_geodata tg
where SDO_RELATE(tg.utm_geo, k.utm_geo, 'mask=AnyInteract querytype= WINDOW') = 'TRUE'
and k.topo_geo_id = 961 -- Gladsaxe
and tg.mtk_obj_id = 58476 -- has secondary index
the performance deteriorates back to 4 min., and the queryplan shows some weird bitmap conversion followed by a bitmap-and operation.

I'm not sure I understand the question, or what it is that works fast.
In this case, the SDO_RELATE with the anyinteract mask has to be done first.
If this takes 4 minutes, then adding additional criteria to reduce the amount of
data returned from that subset will only add time.
The spatial portion of the query has to be done using the spatial index, which is
a monolithic index for the whole table, so all of the geometry data has to be searched,
and the anyinteract applied to all of this data.
After that set of rows comes back, then the additional predicate is applied.
I'm not sure what this means:
Only when a pinpoint 1 particular value of the primary key do I get fast response. You do have a few options to try to make things work faster:
If queries included additional predicates on mtk_obj_id, you might try
to use range partitioning.
If the predicates on mtk_obj_id is very selective, then you might want to select
values based on that column, then use sdo_geom.relate between that very
small subset and the query window.

Dynamic Selection of fields and those 0uputs using ABAP Programming

I have a requirement I searched but couldn't able to find the closest one,
kindly help me in this...
I have 100 fields in one text file which is placed in AL11 server....
Requirement is
User should be able to run a report , by selecting any of the listed field and see any difference between the data in 2 text fields of diff dates...
Ex: in 100 fields Employee Group and Dept no..2 fields he selects in selection-screen output and selects 2 text files from AL11 Server...
if he executes report should produce only those employees who has difference in Employee Subgroup and dept no changes...
writing the logic is not a big deal...
but 2 challenges
1) Empno , empname are fixed but remaining field columns should be what ever user selects. on the selection-screen
2) How to populate fields on selection-screen??

you can do the same thing with routine in data selection. why do you want to do it with ABAP Program? any specific Reason?
You can achive this using BAPI_IPAK_START and BAPI_IPAK_CHANGE FM in ABAP Program.
You need to pass Fiscal Period values in BAPI_IPAK_CHANGE FM.

A dump analysis is a comprehensive list that should enable you to identify the causes and possible solutions of program errors. The ABAP Workbench generates a short dump whenever a report or transaction terminates due to a serious error. The system enters the error in the system log and writes a snapshot of the program at the moment when it terminated into a special database table called SNAP.
Dump analyses give the user or programmer information about the causes of the error that has caused the program to terminate. Experienced users can use them to identify very quickly where and why this occurred. He or she can them solve the problem.
The snapshot contains the following information:
Why the program has terminated
What caused the program termination
Where in the program code the termination occurred
What you can do to correct the error
The values of the relevant system fields when the program terminated
The calls or events that were active when the program terminated
Any other programs that are affected.
