Load balancing for CORBA servers not happening

We have configured 10 instances of a corba server, 5 each in two separate server groups. In the ubbconfig file, I have set "LDBAL Y", expecting that the load will be spread equally among the 10 severs. What is happening is that, load is spread between two servers, one in each server_group. (The last one specified for each group) Other servers in each group got very few requests and few servers got 0 load.
What do I need to do, in order to spread the load almost equally among the 10 servers, similar to what we get, when we use MSSQ, in non-corba tuxedo servers?
This is a single domain single machine environment.

As I believe the whitepaper Ed pointed to you probably explained, what you are likely seeing is normal behavior for load balancing. Assuming that you aren't dealing with issues associated with active objects and that requests to active objects are going to be sent to the server where the object is active, then you seeing normal behavior.
Roughly speaking, in determining what server to give a request to, Tuxedo scans the list of available servers and places the request on the server with the least amount of work queued. If not work is queued for a server, it will place the request on that servers queue. Also, the scan of servers is always done in the same order. So unless your servers are quite busy, the first server will handle most of the requests. Only when that server is busy will Tuxedo go to the next server, and so on. So the only way the 5th server is going to get a request queued to it is if the previous 4 servers are busy.
Note that unless you are using parallel objects (user controlled concurrency), Tuxedo will always send the request to a server in the same group as the server that created the object. So in your example, if the factory that created the object was in group 20, all requests to that object are going to go to a server in group 20.

I am very new to load balancing. I am trying to implement load balanceing in our current production setup.
Our current production setup is as below:
Virtualization Platform : Hyper V
Guest OS : RedHat Linux
OIM server : Two OIM servers in clustered mode without any load balancer
As we don't have any load balancers, transactions are not getting distributed between the two application servers. Which is impacting the performance.
First of all can we implement load balancer without impacting much to the application servers. What is the best load balancer that is suitable for our current setup.

I want to mention few more details about our OIM implementation and what we are trying load balance.
SAP HRMS is the trusted source for OIM. We recieve IDOCs for user creation, modification and disable from SAP through JMS queue. OIM doesn't recieve any http transactions.
My understanding is we need to load balance JMS queue. Please confirm

Reverse Proxy and Load Balancer for SMP 2.3 and Agentry Application

Hi Expert,
I'm putting in place a mobile solution composed by SMP 2.3 SPS 4 and SAP ECC 6.0. In the SMP 2.3 I created the agentry server and I have deployed my agentry application.
My SMP/Agentry infrastructure is composed by two servers therefore I need a load balancer for balance the load into the several servers. Furthermore I need to use a reverse proxy in my DMZ zone.
Based on what indicated in the SAP note "1904213 - SAP Mobile Platform Server Release Information" the Apache Reverse Proxy is not supported for Agentry clients. Agentry uses nginx for Reverse Proxy.
I also found the following document How-to-Guide for Reverse Proxy and Load Balancing in SAP Mobile Platform 3.x that explain how to set-up a reverse proxy and load balancer with nginx and apache.
Both the SAP note and the HOW to document are refereed to SMP 3.0 and not to SMP 2.3.
I would know if the NGINX must be used also for SMP 2.3.
Any suggestion/information is appreciated.

Load Balancing for Oracle Release 11i

Hi there,
I am trying to find some recommendations on the need for load balancing in the middle tier for a 3 tier Oracle Release 11i implementation. Here are the questions that I have.
1. Is load balancing very common for a 11i implementation ?
2. What are the probable issues that one might encounter if there is no load balancing ?
3. If there is load balancing how many servers are generally used for the same ?
4. Do we only install Forms server on multiple servers or we install WebDB and Apache on all the servers ?
5. Is it true that Web servers are the most likely to be down and thus mandating the use of load balancing ? If that is true, would it be prudent to install Web Server and Form Server on each server m/c and in the process having redundant servers ?
Let me know your thoughts.

I'm in the middle of doing this right now. There is a doc on metalink (233428.1) that details the process. I would highly recommend trying this in dev/test env first. Even though the instructions are very straight forward and not very complicated, I'm still having configuration issues.

Setting up Load Balancing for 11i for Intranet & Internet Access

Our current environment for 11i (11.5.5) is accessed only internally (via Intranet). We need to allow outside access (via Internet) also for self-service apps (ie. HR). Oracle Support/Metalink has stated that Load Balancing (note 148155.1) is the only supported method to have multiple (Apps Servers) systems access a single database. Could I get feedback from anyone who has implemented Load Balancing for 11i? Additionally if someone has implemented this for both intranet and internet access how has your company setup? Do the secondary server(s) from the Load Balancing note reside in the DMZ? And thus the primary app server and database reside inside the firewall? Thanks....

You Implement one Load Balancer for first 6 internal Middle Tiers with site level profiles pointing to Internal .
You implement second Load balancer for external 2 middle tiers with server level profile options for these two servers pointing to External Load balancer .

Load balancing for SAP R3 through ITS for EP .

Dear All
We are using ITS bease SAP R3 iviews in EP ..The landscape is as follows
EP --> ITS --> SAP R3 .
We need to configure a load balancing from EP to R3. Currently the ITS is set to hit one Application server on SAP r3 . How do i configure load balancing in EP for R3 .
Even if we use the Load Balancing Iview, it does not prompt to enter SAP R3 Application servers in the EP Load balancing iview properties.
all it asks is the ITS server and SAP server for connectors.

Please do the following steps to accomplish load balancing. It includes both ITS definition and system definition.
ITS Definition:
System definition alone will not help. Because you are using ITS to access SAP R/3. ITS uses global.srvc file to access SAP R/3 system.
When you install ITS you have option to choose connection with SAP R/3. You have two options here.
1) Message server with load balancing
2) Application server.
If you choose option 1, you will have load balancing on SAP R/3 using ITS.

Load balancing multiple J2ee servers - each running it's own CI

Is it possible to load balance multiple J2ee servers(running Portal), both running it's own Central Instance?
We do not have the resources (SAN storage) to implement MSCS for Portal...so instead we want to use two complete Portal servers HW load balanced with the ability to keep running in case one fails.

Hi Linwood,
in a nutshell, the difference between an ordinary J2EE server instance and the central instance are the central services. The central services (enqueue server, message server) are only needed once. Basically, they are required for the communication between the server instances (and to the load balancer). What you should go for is a cluster installation with one central instance and another ordinary server instance (both running the SAP NetWeaver Portal). But be aware that you have to use the same database for both server instances (otherwise you cannot guarantee consistent data).
For load balancing the two server you can use the SAP Web Dispatcher or any other load balancer tool you like.
You will find more and detailed information on load balancing in the SAP Library. Have a look into section <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/2e/611724f410254ca12a3f396ec5ae85/frameset.htm">Java Cluster Architecture</a>.

Advantages of using a webserver inbetween a load balancer and application servers

I am building out a new weblogic domain.
I am wondering which one of these configuration to go with:
1. Load balancer > weblogic servers
2. Load balancer > web server > weblogic servers
Could someone tell me what are the specific advantages of having web servers inbetween a load balancer and application servers (besides caching static data content and acting as a proxy)?

Other than hosting the static content, nothing much really. We have our load balancer go straight to WL for applications without static content and route to web server if there is static content. Easy enough to do it both ways, best of both worlds.

Installing 2 Application server and 1 DB server and load balancing for 11i

Hi,
I need info on how to install and configure load balancing for 11.5.8 on Win2000. The scenario: 1 db server DB, 2 apps/web/forms servers AP1 and AP2. Using rapid install you can only specify one db server A and one form server in multi node installations, right? How do I install the form server on AP2? Can I use the same config.txt? The computer name for AP2 is different.

Network load balancer for Agentry applications

Hi Expert,
I'm going to implement a SAP Mobile Platform solution that will use an agentry application and I need some clarification about the HA configuration and the usage of the network load balancer and relay server. Just for information I'm going to use SMP 2.3 SP4.
My understanding is that Relay server is a reverse proxy and load balancer for SMP but It can't be used for the agentry applications. Is this correct?
Based on the standard configuration in order to balance the load of the client devices in the SMP cluster I have to use a Network load balancer, therefore the technical architecture of my solution should be the following:
|Agentry Client device| ----> | Network Load Balancer | ----> | SMP and Agentry Cluster| -----> |Back end systems|
Is this correct? I didn't find specifications about the Network load balancer.. Is there a list of the Network load balancer products supported from SAP for agentry application. Is there any best practice on the network load balancer?

Because we don't test any directly with our QA we don't have have a preferred products. Talking to our consulting group they normally just use what the customer already has installed in their network. Both Software or hardware load balancers has been used.
The key part needed for the load balancer for Agentry 6.0.x and SMP 2.3 (not SMP 3) that it is set to TCP Pass through.

Traffic Manager works on the DNS level and routes traffic between public endpoints that sit behind a common DNS name. So you can't use this for your scenario.
However, You can implement
load balancing for VMs in another way.

Apart from F5, Cisco is another SLB vendor. I am not sure about any free alternative though.
Note that regardless what SLB that you pick, it should meet the requirements documented in section 29.3.2.2 of the EM12c Release 3 Administrator's Guide:
The SLB must provide support for multiple virtual server ports. Enterprise Manager typically requires that up to 4 ports are configured on the SLB (Secure Upload, Agent Registration, Secure Console, Unsecure Console)
Support for persistence. HTTP and HTTPS traffic between the browser and the OMS requires persistence
Support for application monitoring. The SLB must be capable of monitoring the health of the OMSs and detecting failures, so that requests will not be routed to OMSs that are not availa

What have you tried to fix it ? Have you tried closing the Videos app via the iPad's multitasking bar and seeing if it plays properly when you re-open then app ? Have you tried a soft-reset of your iPad ? If neither of those fix it then are you in a country where films can be redownloaded (assuming that it's not a rental) ? If you are then delete it from the Videos app and redownload it via the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app.
