  • Anyone else having iMessage problems?

    Ever since the update to iOS 7, I've been having trouble with iMessage. When I am trying to send an instant message (blue text) to another iPhone/iPad it will say it's sending for hours and never send. If I switch the message to a standard text (green text) it will go through no problem. I cannot send text messages to a couple people I know that use texting apps since you are only allowed to send IM messages to certain texting apps. Has there been other reports on this? If so, is something being done about it?

    series processor on a Windows XP 32 bit- not 64 bit OS, that was
    experiencing the same symptoms. Where in the knowledge base do you

    Unfortunately, after making some changes in the airport configuration (which is abolutely not related to the DYNDNS), this has stopped updating the IP. I've tried to restore the configuration, reflash ecc but without success.
    This is my configuration:
    - PC Windows XP-SP3 running AirPort Utility 5.5.3 (FWIW there is an annoying bug that prevents you from writing the dot "." in the hostname field, the only solution is to use the copy-paste).
    - AirPort Extreme with 7.6 firmware ( 7.6.1 also available but I've read that isn't much better)
    I also own an AirPort Express 2nd gen with 7.6.2 firmware, I've tried to use this in the place of airport extreme but idem, no success.

    Yes, I referred to the part #2 of your guide but I've also read many of your other posts about it. In fact, let me thank you for your willingness, it's people like you that make the web a better place.
    I also spent a good part of the night reading all the other threads on DynDNS but without success.
    As for my DynDNS account, this is obviously a free account. The host name is like "<pc-name>.dyndns.org" as the user name using my email address (with or without domain "@ gmail.com" works anyway).

    In desperation, I also called a friend who lent me his Netgear modem/router, which supports DynDNS: well, it was enough to enter hostname, username and password so that everything started to work perfectly.
    I am truly saddened
    There's also an odd thing I don't understand: if I press the CTRL key and EDIT simultaneously in the AirPort window, appear three other fields... What are these?

  • Having MBP Problems - A Must READ!!!

    I hope this will encourage those of you who are still waiting and those who are thinking about sending their MBPs back to Apple. I had a spacebar problem and CompUSA said they would take it back and give me a replacement when they arrived. They arrived today. Let me say, the difference between my defective unit and this one goes way beyond the keyboard, but I just didn't realize it. The screen is clearer, no vignetting, the CD/DVD drive is more quiet and loads faster, the keyboard is straight and every key is in alignment, the fit and finish is superior, it is very quiet (I hear only the fan on the left side). I am amazed at the difference. The point is, if your unit is defective, there might be more wrong with it than you imagine, because you do not have a good one sitting beside it as a reference. I believe it with be worth your wait and all the grief. Good things come to those who wait!

    I think if and when I send in my MBP for service at the Apple store, I'll take photos and make sure at least two employees acknowledge of the perfect cond'n of the computer and have them confirm this on the work order...
    So that when I see scratches and scuffs, I can demand a replacement unit.

  • BATTERY problems?? READ THIS!

    Well, I, like a lot of people have been having problems with my iphone 4s battery so i decided to go to the apple store to find out what is wrong. since i have 3 apple stores within 30 min. of me i went to all 3 to see what they would say. Well they all told me it was strictly software and apple is working on it, it could take a while but we should be patient and let them work out the bugs. OK i said still not happy but i left anyway. a few days ago i noticed 1 dead pixel on my screen, so i drove to the apple store to see what they could do, and after confirming it was indeed a dead pixel they gave me a brand new 4S. I restored from a backup and have every icloud,location service turned on, my brightness is kept at 75 percent, i even have bluetooth on for the past 3 days and get this, The battery has no problems, none at all. The other iphone would lose about 30 percent on standby through the night, and i could not even get through the day without charging if i even browsed the web on it. So now am i supposed to belive that this is just a software issue??

    It definitely is a software problem in most cases.  I have personally seen the problem and corrected it on numerous models now including the 4S, 4, 3GS and iPad 2s. Your replacement phone just did not have any system level settings corruption.  Corrupt system level settings created by an iOS 5 bug in the original release that caused battery recalibration issues, etc.  Just installing the update does not fix the issue in most cases.  You need to clear out those settings and recalibate the battery.  For those still having the "standby battery drain" issue follow the procedure below in order.  It does fix the problem in most cases.
    Go through these steps to address the battery after updating to iOS 5.0.1:
    1. Reset all settings (settings app-> general-> reset)
    2. Go through initial setup steps (lang, wifi, siri, enable location, etc) and choose setup as new phone (don't worry your apps, data, contacts, mail will still be there). Do NOT restore from iCloud or iTunes (It can copy back corrupt settings)
    3. Turn off system location services timezone and iAd
    4. Fully discharge battery  (tilll it shuts off with the spinning wheel)
    5. Fully recharge battery (overnight if possible)
    In my experience this improves the Standby battery drain issue significantly in most cases.  It reduces drain from 2-4% or more per hr to 0.5% or less. It has worked for many, many users now. If it does not work after a few try's you may have a real battery or hardware issue and should contact Apple.  Good Luck!

  • Having a problem downloading Adobe Reader to my computer.

    I don't understand why I cannot simply download Adobe Reader X to my computer from Firefox. It says I am missing a plugin, then when it searches it says its not available, takes me to download something and then a ZIP file appears.
    I don't even know what to do with this ZIP file and this seems like a tedious process for downloading a simple file. I gave up, gave in and used GOOGLE CHROME to download the file and it was on my computer in less than a minute, so then I could load it onto my computer.
    Why is Firefox being so picky about something like this and why haven't they made this easier to download. I don't like using other programs like CHROME or IE for things like this, but I am forced to use them.
    I enjoy Firefox, but it's the "little foxes" like these that mess up the vineyard and makes it difficult to browse and download items with ease.
    Please make this easier for people to download. Make a plug-in available or something to where I do not have to mess around with ZIP files that I don't know what to do with.

  • WRT600N Problem - UGGH, everyone read this!!!!

    I just purchased a WRT600N and several WUSB600N adapters for my desktops and notebook.  I have comcast cable internet and have had no problem setting it up.  If I connect a PC directly to the WRT600N ethernet ports I get 6-15Mb download speeds(depends on how many people in my area are using it) and 2-3Mb upload speed.  When I connect via the WUSB600N it shows I am getting a 270Mb wireless connection with 4 bars(Very Good) to the WRT600N but my download speeds are only 1-1.5Mb and there is a constant lag period every couple seconds.  My ping times are good to whatever place I try, around 40-70ms and no data loss but I can't effectively use the internet over the wireless as it is now with the slower speed and lag.  Does it have anything to do with the encryption method, would that slow down the transfer rate?
    OK, Update-I just discovered the problem....it's the encryption, the WRT600N can't do the encryption fast enough.  If I set it to WPA2-Personal and "AES" or "WPA-TKIP or WPA2-AES" it limits the speed to the internet to around 1-1.7Mb for download.  If I set it to WPA-Personal and "AES" or "TKIP" it limits the speed to the internet to around 1-1.1Mb for download.  If I set it to WEP 128-bit encryption I get 15Mb download speed EVERYTIME!!!! 
    This is totally unacceptable performance if the better encryption is not working fast enough.  Shared WEP 128-bit encryption is worthless and can be cracked with ease these days.
    Can a Linksys support tech comment on this please????

    Even though the tweaks recommended above worked for the short time, I had continuous problems with the WRT600N.  It would randomly drop the internet connection, and I was really only able to get 3Mbps where once I was getting full bandwidth (when it was new).  
    I reluctantly purchased the new Cisco/Linksys equivalent router the E4200.  Once I got it set up I was getting 16-20Mbps right away with all the same equipment.  $150 later, now my problems are over.  At least for a year when the warrantee expires.
    I think these things only last a few years before they overhead and get burned out.  I attached one of those laptop cooling pads to the USB on the back of the new router so it continuously has a fan underneath to keep it cool. I hope this helps extend the life.

    To me, Steam is basically just a package manager. I don't mind having to use it any more than I mind having to use pacman.
    The only downside is that you can't (AFAIK) play most (all?) of your games when you're offline. I'm connected 99% of the time anyway, and I'm not going to throw my toys out of my pram over the other 1%.
    It is not like pacman. You don't need to launch pacman when you are launching your applications. Or be online. The offline mode is broken purposely everyone knows that. Apart from them Steam has regional pricing and regional locking.
    How can you salivate a program doesn't even a bit respecting your freedom and use Linux?

    You should be syncing at about 4 Meg. The reason you are not is that the DLM system has put you on a banded profile in response to past errors on your line, the lowest of these Banded Profiles, altho' you now have no significant errors. You need to call EE to reset the DLM in order to remove any banding. However should significant errors persist the DLM will reapply banding.

    After Creating a fresh catalog I have been able to clarify the issue a bit. This error appears to only show up in Folders exported as Catalogs. Particularly when I try and open that exported catalog.
    I suspect there is a problem with the way Lightroom 5 is exporting these catalogs. I didn't have this issue with LR4.4, but it shows up any time I export a folder as a catalog within LR5, regardless of whether or not it is exported from an upgraded catalog or a fressly created catalog.
    It looks like fixing the problem is going to be time consuming, but not impossible. So far I have confirmed that these files - reported as throwing this error by Lightroom 5 ("Lightroom has encountered problems reading this photo .... You will not be able to make adjustment to this photo.") - can be imported into a new/existing catalog by multiple methods without carrying over the errors displayed in the exported catalog.
    This is frustrating and adds additional steps to my workflow, but isn't undoable. Of course it would be nice if LR5 worked as correctly and exported folders as catalogs without throwing errors when those new catalogs were opened...
    Is anyone else seeing this problem when they open catalogs created by "exporting a folder as a catalog"?

    I'm really confused. I am consistently getting this message on certain exports, but not others...
    When it happens:
    1) "Export this Folder as a Catalog" from a specific folder within my Working Catalog
         Select the location
         Select "Export negative files"
    When I open the NEW Catalog - ALL the photos reflect this error message: "Lightroom has encountered problems reading this photo .... You will not be able to make adjustment to this photo."
    When I go to the Develop tab it displays "There was an error working with the photo" over the photo, but I can edit it... When I close the catalog and re-open it, the changes don't reflect UNTIL I go back to the Develop tab, then the thumbnail will reflect the change. But the system still insists that it has a problem with the file...
    2) The same thing happens when I export the file from my Working Catalog as an image of the same format - be it tif, dng, or psd, or RAW files. Not sure what I was refering to here (can't duplicate today - July 17).
    When it doesn't happen:
    When I export the file to the auto import folder for my Portfolio catalog (original format). This seems to work...
    Why am I so confused? Because all of these catalogs are located on the same drive (which is different than the drive my Working Catalog is on). When they are auto imported to my Portfolio catalog they seem to work, but everything else throws an error sinse I upgraded to LR5!
    My System:
    Windows 7 Pro SP1 (fully up to date) 64-bit
    Intel Core i7 CPU 950 @ 3.07GHz
    Installed RAM: 12.0 GB
    My Lightroom 5 Working Catalog doesn't seem to be having any problems...
    This problem is frustrating enough that I may go back to LR4. I can't have my archived files compromised...

    Suggestion to all who encounter problems like this: if you've installed 3rd party memory cards (ram), go back to your original ram, or at least the brand of ram that your computuer came with.
    Long story, short:
    I had the same error message in LR5.  It only happened with several images in a given import.  If I deleted all of the images from the import and reimported the images, a different set of images would have the error message.  The images that originally had the message would no longer have the problem.  I deleted and reimported several times while observing the same behavior. 
    Not only did lightroom give me issues, but Bridge had problems reading the files, and the previews of the problem images would not show up in Finder (Mac speak).  This ruled out, to me at least, that it was a software issue.  I went out and purchased a new card reader and had the same problems.  I tried a different card with different images and got the same problems. 
    After I contacted Adobe, they had me upload two files with the error, and they said the files were corrupted due to faulty hardware.  I took my mac book pro (13in early 2011 w/ 10.7.5) to the apple store and they ran a diagnostic test amoung other test and we came up with nothing.  Everything seemed to be good on the hardware side.  After some research the Rep. asked me about my ram (memory cards).  I had in the past installed two 3rd party cards to boost my ram from 4GB to 8GB. The rep. suggested that I go home and test the issue with the original ram my computer came with before we go any farther.  So far, I haven't had any issues.
