Ignore rightmost 300px of the screen (Xorg & XRandr)

I have a 1200x1024 screen,
but the rightmost belt of 300 pixels got damaged in a way they are unusable.
How can I force Xorg to treat my screen as 900x1024 device?

That magic must be put in the "Display" SubSection of the "Screen" Section of xorg.conf. Modes should say "1200x1024" but "Virtual 896 1024" should make the screen smaller. Then you might have to specify "Viewport 0 0" to make the smaller virtual screen start at the left because otherwise it will be centred.
My BIOS has a video scaling option that will make every resolution except the maximum only fill a portion of the screen, but it seems like Xorg ignores it unless I mess around with /proc.

  • Virtual box xrandr - failed to change the screen configuration

I am using Arch as guest in the Virtual Box
xrandr -q says 36000x36000 is the maximum mode.
I want my screen to be of maximum mode 36000x36000 which will is needed in my project.
IN my xorg.conf I have added the mode 36000x36000 but when I try
    xrandr -q it shows 36000x36000
but when I try xrandr -s 36000x36000 it says
failed to change the screen configuration

do you have enough video memory allocated to the virtualbox?  i'm guessing it would take a lot of video ram to produce such a high resolution.

  • [FIXED BUT NOT SOLVED] NVIDIA - Desktop shifted left off the screen...

    Hello Community!
For a pretty long time right now, I am trying to fix the video setup of my HTPC but without success. Because I'am run out of ideas, I really need Your help.
    PROBLEM:
The desktop is shifted left off the screen, round about 100 Pixel.
It started some time in the past, while upgrading a one year old Ubuntu installation (NVDIA drivers). Because I couldn't fix it and also wanted to replace Ubuntu with ArchLinux, I performed a clean ArchLinux installation.
First I used the nouveau drivers ending up with the same problem. I read an configured using xrandr and cvt, but with no success.
So I restored the system to a snapshot taken before X11 and nouveau drivers installations, thank's BTRFS, and installed the proprietary NVIDIA drivers ending up with the same problems. Again I tried all the tips and tricks found in the documentations and forums, used nvidia-xconfig, hand crafted the xorg.conf all with no success.
    HARDWARE
The system is a MSI Media Live (http://www.msi.com/product/desktop/Media-Live.html)
. Support AMDR Athlon 64 X2, Athlon 64 and Sempron in the Socket AM2 package
    . North Bridge: nVidia® C51PVG Chipset
    . South Bridge: nVidia® MCP51 Chipset
. Graphics is Integrated NVIDIA GPU GeForce 6150 LE
. VGA, SCART and HDMI - Connectors
The display Problem is on VGA and HDMI now, where in the past the VGA was perfect. Therefor I connected and used the VGA port only, in all tests.

As You can see, I installed only a minimal X11 environment for test. The lxdm display manger shows up but with very small font and shifted to the left. Only if I force a resolution of 1024x768 the image is centered on screen/tv but still the very small font. Obviously not a solution for a HTPC.
Here are the xorg.conf and the Xorg.0.log of my last test configuration.

How can I shift the display to the right?

    Thank You Mr.Elendig!
The simplest answer often is best. After I connected a TFT display, instead of my TV, I was able to calibrate the screen output and got the desktop shifted. Knowing that, I tried the settings of my TV again. There is a hard to find option for calibration wich is set to automatic but doesn't do it. Trying to turn it of did the trick. Even the option stays on automatic and even the display format is fixed to 4:3 instead of 16:9, finaly the TV adjusted the display correctly.
None the less, the problem not to be able to shift the desktop using the screen paramters in xorg.conf remains.
    Thanks

  • [SOLVED] Unable to hibernate (and garbles the screen when it fails)

Hello,  I'm unable to hibernate (but I can suspend fine).
    When I run
    sudo systemctl hibernate
it will run the command, turn off the screen and come back all garbled (like static from a tv), with the computer still on but the processes stopped.
I followed all the instructions on the hibernation wiki.
I rebuilt grub adding the swap partition and added the resume hook to mkinitcpio.
My swap partition is 23.4GB and my ram is 16gb, so that shouldn't be an issue.
I've had a look at my xorg logs, run systemctl --all | grep errors with nothing, and nothing came up from the system journal ( I forgot the command as it was deleted from my bash history).
What other logs can I provide to help determine the error?
    Thanks
    edit:
It's been solved now, I believe an update to the kernel has done the trick. I can suspend to disk fine now.
For those googling, I'm running 3.11.6-1-ARCH

I masked alsa90 under /etc/pm/sleep.d to be -x. That was the only file out of the pm directories. (I only have it for KDE too).
I've also double checked my grub config to add resume, and mkinitcpio which has the resume hook.
This is the relevant part of journalctl, this is when I run sudo systemlctl hibernate

  • My desktop spills outside the screen

Having installed Mountain Lion, my desktop image has now got bigger than the screen it's supposed to fit.  How can I make my it go back to the same size as the screen as it was with Lion?

I have no idea how to remove kwin's config or .kde's.
Btw I have onboard graphics card: Intel HD 4000.
The problem seems to be in the X server rather than in KDE.
    trying: xrandr
    Comes out with:
xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default
    Screen 0: minimum 1366 x 768, current 1368 x 768, maximum 1368 x 768

       1366x768        0.0
       1368x768        0.0*
    Running: grep EE /var/log/Xorg.0.log
    Comes with:
    [  8350.778] Current Operating System: Linux droid 3.5.3-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Sun Aug 26 09:14:51 CEST 2012 x86_64

[  8350.788] (EE) Failed to load module "fbdev" (module does not exist, 0)
    trying: X -configure
    creates config file in: /root/xorg.conf.new
    then I run: X -config /root/xorg.conf.new
I and a black screen shows up and nothing happens...
I have no idea why trys to load the intel module and fbdev. The only driver i have installed is vesa.
    Any suggestions welcomed
p.s: just to elaborate on the issue. Only a part of the top of the desktop is outside the screen. Otherwise part of the left side of the desktop goes out of the left side and comes back from the right side.
here is a photo taken with my phone:

  • I upgraded my iPhone 5 to iOS7 and I am unable to open iTunes on my phone - the screen just never loads.

I installed iOS7 on my iPhone5 and now I am unable to open iTunes - the screen just stays blank.
I have checked date and time and wifi settings.
Not sure what else to do.
I do have iMatch active on my device and its working fine on my other iPohne with iOS7 installed.
    Any help please!

Have you tried logging out of your account on your phone by tapping on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Store and then logging back in ? If it's still the same after that then try a soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the equivalent of a reboot.

  • My ipad freezes and the screen won't rotate, how do I fix it?

My ipad screen freezes either horizontally or vertically and I can't ever get it to turn back. Anyone know how to fix this?

Try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
Also be advised that there is a screen lock function but it's been a disaster since Apple decided to pacify the whiners.  Check it out here.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085
In case you're wondering, here is the history.  Originally, the mechanical switch affected only the rotation lock and the mute was a software switch elsewhere.  In IOS-3, it was changed to be the mute switch and the rotation lock became a software switch.  This was done to ensure consistency among IOS devices.  Unfortunately, a large quantity of users complained loudly, alleging that they turned the rotation lock on and off several times every hour and the convenience of the mechanical switch is essential.  In IOS-4, Apple bowed to the whiners and made the switch function selectable and now we're stuck with a mess.

  • Second monitor "hide" the programs behind the screen background.

    Hi!
Updated my system a couple of days ago. When I rebooted, my second screen comes up as normal, except I can't get anything to show on that screen.
The primary screen works as normal. The second screen shows the background and conky, but when I try to open anything on the screen, it opens, kind of behind the background. I can use the program, and drag it to the first screen. Then I see it. It's almost like the screen background covers it.
Have a nvidia GPU and using Awesome as VM.
Anyone have an idea what the problem might be?

My Ipad 2 is not working. Is not turning On. I dont' know what's happening. I'm trying to turn it on and I have no answer. Screen is out, nothing come to the screen. Battery is ok at 60% charged when I turned off last time, and after minutes when I turned on, it not worked anymore. If somebody have an idea what may happenning, please let me know.

I don't know what yu mean by "screen is out" but try this.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Why does the screen on my iPad mini jump around?  Apps open and close, I can't get back to the home screen.  Is my mini possessed?

Why does the screen on my iPad mini start jumping--larger, smaller--can't close apps.  I reboot and still it happens.  Any suggestions?

If the unit has NEVER been jailbroke, first try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...  Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again.  Also, if you have IOS-7, read this.

  • Field VIQMSM-MATXT(14) does not exist in the screen SAPLIQS0 7204

    Hi experts,
I have a BDC calls QM02 Tcode in a custom report as follow:
      PERFORM bdc_dynpro      USING 'SAPLIQS0' '7204'.
      PERFORM bdc_field       USING 'BDC_OKCODE'
                                    '=REAK'.
      PERFORM bdc_field       USING 'BDC_CURSOR'
                                    'VIQMEL-QMNUM'.
      CLEAR txline.
CONCATENATE 'VIQMSM-MATXT(' lnindex ')' INTO txline.
      " txline = VIQMSM-MATXT(0014)
CONCATENATE 'PO #: ' alv_qmel-ponum INTO matxt SEPARATED BY space.
      PERFORM bdc_field       USING txline
                                      matxt.
      PERFORM bdc_transaction USING 'QM02'.
When debugging I found that the input bdcdata table contains a field VIQMSM-MATXT(14) in screen SAPLIQS0 7204.
Number 14 is the number of task of the notification which was not marked as deleted.
This field caused the error: Field VIQMSM-MATXT(14) does not exist in the screen SAPLIQS0 7204 after that.
I would like to know what does VIQMSM-MATXT(14) mean? How BDC can transfer VIQMSM-MATXT(14) to QM02? And How does it work?
    Thanks,
    Khanh

    Hi Kostek,
I did not have the solution for this exact problem because our FA canceled this bug.
Check your test case carefully whether the screen of the TCode called by BDC has that field OR NOT. If that screen does not have that field in your special case, just ignore it.
    Regards,
    Khanh
