IMac Aluminum keyboard numbers not working.. Works in windows vista though

Hey Everyone,
I have an iMac running the last version of Leopard (10.5.6) and for some reason the 0-9 keys on the keyboard don't show up as numbers. I'm talking about the number pad on the right hand side of the keyboard, the ones in front of the qwerty keys work fine.. Whenever I press a number in Leopard on the number pad it does weird things like highlights the box, brings up sub menus and other stuff like that.
I have Bootcamp on this computer and when I boot into Vista the number keys work fine so I know it's nothing wrong with the keyboard. It some preference. Could anyone help me please?
Thanks,
-Mike

Thanks again! I went through the system preferences and sticky keys was already off. I own an iMac Aluminum and it looks like that article only was for MacBook and MacBook Pro computers. I also tired resetting the PRAM. If I only backed up I could just restore from that. My current NAS Drive (Western Digital MyBook World) just died so I purchased a time capsule as a replacement so I should be able to back up now and avoid problems like this..
It's just some setting in Leopard somewhere but I just can't figure out where...

iTunes no longer works on my Windows VISTA system.  Get error msg saying an application is attempting to access C runtime library incorrectly... Error 7, Windows error 1114.  Same msg, or one that says unable to install, when trying to update or reinstall iTunes.  iTunes worked well up until about a month ago when this error msg starting appearing.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

  • Re: Would serial number at the bottom work with other Windows Vista OS

    Firstly sorry for my English.
    I have only one question.
My hard drive is broken with my recovery partition.
If I download windows vista and install the system with my original serial number on the laptop, this will be working or I need to activate him after installation.
I hope this is the same number than before is installed on my first installation.

    Hi Marcin
I doubt that the serial number which is placed at the bottom of the unit would work with another Windows Vista OS. But its worth a try
You could test it I heard that is very rare cases this was possible
Anyway, if your HDD is broken and its not possible to create a recovery DVD using the software Toshiba Recovery disk creator then you should contact the ASP in your country for a help.
If the warranty is valid the HDD should be replaced just for free. If you need only the Recovery DVD then you could order it here:

I think you mean Photoshop CS2.  Photoshop 2 is from around 1992.  The old Adobe activation servers were taken down. CS2 is about a decade old Adobe made a new download for old customers that legal customers can download and install. Download Acrobat 7 and CS2 products

  • Using new wired keyboard (w/o numeric keypad) with Windows Vista

I have a 2008 Mac Pro and a Windows PC. They share the same monitor, keyboard and mouse via a KVM switch (I use the Belkin Flip DVI-D KVM Switch, model F1DG102D). My keyboard is the Apple wired keyboard with numeric keypad, which works fine with my Windows Vista PC, even with no Apple-specific Windows driver installed. My keyboard tray is pretty small, so I would like to get the new Apple wired keyboard which doesn't have a numeric keypad. I don't need the numeric keypad anyway. However, I will miss the home, end, page up, page down, and forward delete buttons. The Mac Pro has a way of simulating these keys. However, the key combinations to simulate these keys don't work in Windows Vista. My question is: how do I simulate these keys from Windows Vista? My guess is that possible options are:
    1. Use some Vista keyboard mapping software. If so, any idea what might work?
    OR
    2. Use Apple's keyboard driver for Windows Vista (32-bit). The keyboard comes with boot camp, but I don't use boot camp (since I have a separate Windows PC). How do I go about getting a standalone Apple keyboard driver without having to install boot camp?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi randman.
I have a similar problem but it seems there is no solution. The new wired keyboard is not event working properly with BOOTCAMP. Vista doesn't recognize the keyboard as Apple keyboard and even forcing the device manager to use the Apple keyboard driver is not working.

  • Verizon Media Manager will not start automatically with Windows, even though it is set to do so.

Verizon Media Manager will not start automatically with Windows, even though it is set to do so.  This started with the latest update.  I see that the desktop icon for Media Manager now has a security shield on it, and it requires UAC confirmation when you start it, which I don't remember the old version doing.
One thing I noticed, msconfig.exe shows that "C:\Program Files\Verizon\McciTrayApp.exe" is set to start at Windows startup, but the desktop icon used to start Media Manager manually has a target of ""C:\Program Files\Verizon\Verizon Media Manager\Release\Verizon Media Manager.exe" Verizon Media Manager".
I don't remember what the previous version was, but this one is 9.4.86.  It asked me if I wanted to update it a few days ago, and I said yes.
I am running Windows 7 Home Premium.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Try setting the startup option to off and then to on again. It looks to be pointing to a wrong location.

  • Intel iMac with new usb aluminum keyboard will not recognize boot options

I have a first gen Intel iMac core duo 20". After I replaced the old usb keyboard with the new aluminum usb keyboard, I can no longer boot into single-user mode, select to boot from a different volume (including boot camp), boot from a CD, or boot into target mode. All of the boot key options no longer work. These options do work with an older Apple keyboard. I have all the latest updates including the latest firmware and keyboard drivers. Help Apple, I really need to boot into these different options and with the new keyboard, I can't. I have read several other accounts of this on other sites.

I have an early 2006 intel iMac and am having the same problem with the new keyboard. Called AppleCare, who sent me to the local Apple Store after trying several minutes in vain to cure the problem.
One of the Genius's at the Apple Store pulled up Article 306893, Apple Keyboard (2007): Cannot boot to Startup Manager. This is a document that's apparently not available to the public, as I have the printed copy, but have been unable to pull it up in my searches.
The issue is some intel-based iMacs and Mac mini computers shipped prior to 2007 may not boot to the Startup Manager when holding down the Option key on the aluminum keyboard (2007).
My iMac is listed among the products affected.
The solution they offer is to follow these steps:
    1. While starting the computer, point the Apple remote at the computer and hold down the Menu button. The computer should boot into the Startup manager.
    2. Use the Fast Forward and Rewind buttons to select the desired boot volume.
    3. Once the desired boot volume is selected, press the Play / Pause button to continue booting.
Hope this helps. It works for my system. Still doesn't solve the keyboard issue but offers an acceptable workaround.

  • New Aluminum Keyboard Keys Don't Work

    Hi All,
I just brought home my new Aluminum Keyboard that was released along with New iMac. As you see I'm on PowerMac G5.
I've installed Keyboard Update 1.1 and I've got my Fn key working. However, for the life of me I can't figure out how to get f4 key to get to work. There is a new symbol (deshboard) on it and when I was at the apple store I was shown that by pressing the f4 (deshboard) key it would start the deshboard. Mine doesn't. Same thing with f3 (expend) all windows key.
    Your help is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,

i have no problem with thes f3 or f4 keys or the Fn key.Plugged it in hit software update and then installed Keyboard update 1.1, works fine
I do have a problem with the right hand Shift key though, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt work at all.
Anybody else have this problem or is it all function key issues only/

  • Aluminum keyboard (USB, not wireless) intermittent problems

Since I got my new Mac Pro here at work, the keyboard has intermittently acted strangely. Occasionally, letter and number keys only will occasionally stop working in the current application. Arrows, function keys and modifier keys will continue to work. Even stranger, sometimes just a few keys will stop working. For example, today, the "h" key stopped working at one point, and the "a" key at another point.
The mouse that is plugged into the keyboard is unaffected. I don't think it is a hardware problem. Switching to a different application and switching back again will solve the problem temporarily. But it's causing me annoyance and typos. Updating the keyboard's firmware to the latest edition did not solve the problem. I've heard of others having this problem with wireless keyboards, but this is a USB keyboard.
    Any ideas?

I have a related and extremely annoying issue:
    - I've got an iPhone (8GB, first gen) with 2.1 firmware
    - Mac Pro early 2008
    - Aluminium Keyboard (standard)
    - iTunes 8
Whenever I attach my iPhone, the keyboard goes dead. Totally. Only way to re-animate it is by unplugging the iPhone and wait 5 seconds, then re-plug the keyboard. This is on a newly created Admin account on the Mac Pro and an iPhone that has been through a total factory reset back to 2.1 today...
    Ans a newly re-installed iTunes 8.
Note my iPhone is no longer recognized in iPhoto or Aperture or iTunes.
However, the iPhone works fine on a Mac Book Pro (newest model).
It does show up and sync on an iMac Intel 2.0 GHy, but kicks the Aluminum keyboard on that machine as well...
    What is going on???
I will have to double-post this in iTunes and iPhone section, apologies in advance, but this is just too ridiculous...
Apple "Genius" in Apple Store Regent Street recommended an archive & install of Leopard 10.5.x. Yeah right. I am working on this machine, I have not got time for that silly idea...
The thing is, this all worked fine before the 2.0/2.1 update... but why is the bl oo dy thing working on a new MacBook Pro and not on my Mac Pro?

  • Aluminum Keyboard Sometimes Not Recognized By USB Port

I have an Aluminum wired keyboard that occasionally isn't detected by my Macbook in both Windows XP (Boot Camp) and Leopard. This is an exchanged one because the first one also behaved this way. I'm not using the extension cable. I have a USB wireless mouse plugged into one of the keyboard's USB ports and a flash drive. When the keyboard isn't detected, the mouse doesn't work (no lights on the receiver, can't connect), but the flash drive gets recognized. I've also had the keyboard not be detected without the flash drive so I know that it isn't the issue.
When it isn't detected I have to disconnect and reconnect the keyboard multiple times until it randomly starts working. Once it works, it doesn't stop working, though after going to sleep it occasionally disconnects itself on startup. All the function keys work properly and there's no updates available...is there anything I can do about this?

I've seen the very same problem. In my case I have a wired Mighty Mouse attached to one of the USB ports on the aluminum keyboard. Every time I plug it in -- not recognized first time. Second time -- success. Highly annoying.
Unfortunately I don't have a solution for the problem.
