IMac G5 doesn' do RSS/Atom

I have used Safari for RSS since it started supporting it. I decided to check out some of the dedicated apps. I have found that my iMac G5 will not connect to any subscriptions using any of the programs. I have used NetNewsWireLite, Shrook, Owl and a few others. There is no activity at all.
First I thought there may be some port forwarding that needed to happen, but I checked the same installations on my TIBook - which works like a champ - and there is nothing special to configure for any app.
The setup is: DSL in to Netopia Router (4 Ethernet plus wireless). G5 is Ethernet only, TIBook has Airport card using the 802.11x channel on the Netopia. There is an Airport Express in the mix, but only to do wireless printing - it gets its Ethernet feed from the Netopia. all hosts are on the same subnet and each have static IPs.
Can someone point the way for freeing up the connection to be able to use RSS apps on this box?

Safari will not do RSS as well, or is it just these 3rd party applications?
Keep in mind no port forwarding should be necessary as RSS is outgoing connections.
However, it's possible that these applications are having problems with 10.4?
That's a very strange behavior, these apps work in your TiBook, but not the iMac. Try in another profile/user to see if the problem resolves there. If so, it is something in your user. If not, try an Archive & install Preserving.

  • How do I get messages to go back to an AIM account? It's only seeing the iPad's Facetime email address and not seeing the old AIM account name that is on my desktop. I am using my iMac using iChat to talk to a newer iMac that doesn't have iChat.

How do I get messages to go back to an AIM account? It's only seeing the iPad's Facetime email address and not seeing the old AIM account name that is on my desktop. I am using my iMac using iChat to talk to a newer iMac that doesn't have iChat. We had this working using Messages and Facetime (on the new machine) talking to my existing iChat account. One day last week, when Facetime rang, my kids answered on the iPad. Dang! Now it's all fouled up! The new iMac won't see my AIM account name and shows that I'm offline, because the iPad is off. We were able to call using "most recent call" in Facetime, but now I can't go and control that new iMac remotely to help with some email concerns the user is having. I'm trying to not personalize this too much, but it's grandkids talking to Grandma and Mom and Dad trying to solve new machine hiccups. Normally, I could just go in via iChat and control the other machine and troubleshoot, but I can't do it with Facetime only. My buddy list doesn't see  the other computer even though we are connected on Facetime right now. My name is not highlighted for the other computer. What could have gone so wrong?
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • How do I reinstall Adobe Creative Suite on my iMac that doesn't have a CD drive?

How do I reinstall Adobe Creative Suite on my iMac that doesn't have a CD drive?
I had to wipe my hard drive including my apps and I don't know how to reinstall my adobe software.

You will need your serial number.  If you have the discs you should be all set.  If not, then you should be able to find it thru your Adobe account online if you registered the software previously.
You might want to contact Adobe Support thru chat before you activate the new installation if you would like to free up the activation that might have been left in limbo.
For the link below click the Still Need Help? option in the blue area at the bottom and choose the chat option...

  • IMac - Display doesn´t work after restart

My iMac 21 Display doesn´t work after restart. If I turn it off and 1 hour later I want use it again the iMac shows the white screen with the mac logo and then the display goes off. I connected an external display to check if the iMac was ON and with the external display I can login and do everything but the iMac Display doesn´t work .
If I turn it off and wait 3 or 4 hours  and then turn it back on the display works OK.
This is very strange behavior I have spent hours and hours trying to fine the solution or a similar issue but nothing so I am looking help here at apple.com
BTW When I bougth the iMac 21 there were some spots over the display so the display was replaced by the provider. The warranty has expired by now.

To tell you the truth, I don't know if they have to repalce the LCD panel or what they do for a bad backlight. In this reality of block or assembly replacement it probably involves repalcing the panel and not the backlight component. Don't know what it would cost. You'd have to ask that of a service center.

  • How to transfer files from an iMac without upgraded Migration Assistant to a new iMac that doesn't have a firewire port?

    Hello.
I just purchased a new iMac. He's awesome. However, he didn't come with a Firewire port. (Bummer, because I have one from the last time (2007) I had to transfer stuff from my iBook...)
When I turned him on, he wanted to use Migration Assistant to transfer files from the older iMac; she doesn't have the most updated Migration Assistant, though. (She works just fine, but she only has Snow Leopard.)
Okay, so what I'm wondering is if I just have to use a huge external hardrive to move everything? If I do that, will my programs (Microsoft Office) move? I fear they won't move/transfer that way. Ugh.
    PLEASE HELP.
    Ideas? Advice?
    Thank you in advance!

Firewire 800 (what the new iMac has) is 9 pin. FireWire 400 is 6 pin (what your old iMac has).  Hopefully you didn't damage your new iMac by trying to insert a FW400 cable into its FW800 connector. The numbers are important in the case of the ports. They don't interchange!!! Get the proper cable or risk damaging your new iMac.

I am new to dreamweaver and have undertaken the cd training, however I am unable to find information on how to add an rss feed reader to my site and which extension is most appropriate. I would really appreciate if someone could advise me how i go about adding the feed reader to my site so I can show content generated by Feeds from other websites. I would also appreciate any advice on which reader is most compatible with CS5
I went to the Adobe Exchange for Dreamweaver and search on "rss" and got 14 hits:
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/exchange/index.cfm?searchfield=rss&search_exchange=3&search_c ategory=-1&search_license=&search_rating=&search_platform=0&search_pubdate=&num=25&startnu m=1&event=search&sticky=true&sort=0&rnav_dummy_tmpfield=&Submit=
Maybeone of the Dreamweaver Extensions does what you want.
    Hope this helps,

  • How Web Dynpro supports RSS (ATOM)?

Let's image to generate our feed (RSS/ATOM) via java classes or xslt; now how is it possibile to expose it to the end-user?
From the development point of view it is similar to expose other Web Dynpro UI and it would be nice to use the same "prospective" and project also for this kind of comunication method...

    Valery, thanks for the replay.
I agree with you: "nothing of special about RSS/ATOM and
No problem also building the XML object".
    Let me try again:
    - user contacts the url of the WD application
    - the system should response just with the RSS xml data and not with UI objects (tableView, textEdit, ...)
But the WD does not allow you "to send out raw XML" even "send out raw HTML".
It allows "only" to build nice UI via objects it knows.
When you say "construct contex value nodes" do you mean that you are able to replay with the raw XML data?
Are you really able to response to a browser as the following url https://forums.sdn.sap.com/rss/rssmessages.jsp?threadID=75910
does? (It is the feed of this post)

  • How to install Creative Suite 6 on imac which doesn't have DVD drive?

    Hi,
I'm not sure how to install CS 6  (DVD version) on imac which doesn't have DVD drive. Can anyone help me? I will appreciate

Miradouro you can copy the files on a computer which does have an optical drive to a USB drive.  You can then install from the USB drive.
Alternately you can download a fresh copy of the installation files at Download CS6 products.

  • 1st Gen iMac G5 doesn't turn on--after shutting down during sleep

So I bought an IMAC G5 17/1.6/256/80/COMBO when they first came out. Within the first year and a half I had to get two logic boards replaced. Fast foward to about 4 months after Applecare ran out and the machine began shutting down instead of going to sleep. Then, last week--nothing--wouldn't even turn on. So I unplugged it and plugged it back in and it started fine. Two days ago same thing only now it won't turn on at all. So I took off the cover, internal power button doesn't work--tried reseting SMU and still nothing. LED 2 doesn't come on at all, but LED 1 isn't constant, it flickers (don't know if that's normal). So I assume it's either logic board or power supply.
Now, I've read the Repair Extension program about this model, but unfortunately it only goes out three years (curious because that's how long my AppleCare lasted). And I found it odd that after getting it fixed twice it would still have these defective parts. So I called the support line trying to explain the situation. After being on hold for 20 min. the guy came back and said my warranty was up so I couldn't even talk to someone on the phone about the problem. I could get it fixed, but it was going to cost me.
Anyone have any advice? I was going to get another computer later this year (although will probably change my mind about getting another Mac after this experience), and I know fixing this one will be pretty expensive--something I can't afford right now. Does anyone know the rationale behind a) three year cutoff and b) Apple not informing owners that they'd better get it checked out before period runs out. And I guess as a last resort if it winds up being too expensive to fix, anyone know if people buy broken IMACs? Talk about frustration, I didn't even have to go through this type of nonsense when I used Windows.
    Thanks for your help.
