Image resolution of inserted image

I'm creating a PDF e-book for a friend:
I scan an image (line art) as a 200dpi greyscale jpg in photoshop. Looks sharp on screen and when printed. I scale down the image from 100% to the size I'll need it in Pages (3" wide). Move over into Pages and insert>choose> and select my image. Once imported, the image is huge! So I go back to photoshop and scale it down way more. Now when I re-import the image into Pages, its the correct size but appears fuzzy. If I print the image from Pages....it's fuzzy. If I print that same image from photoshop it's tiny. How do I reconcile this?

I'm sorry but that doesn't answer my question (I'm not being rude). If it's 4" ouside Pages (in PhotoShop)......why wouldn't it still be 4" when inserted into Pages.
You are dealing with two separate issues here.
Your original question asked about the change in display/print clarity when a file imported to pages at two different resolutions. In the first case you have an 4" image at 200 dpi (or lines). This means the image contains 800 dots in the dimension being measured. When this image is imported to Pages, it still has 800 dots in the indicated dimensions and will have a 200 dpi resolution when displayed as a 4" image (i.e. 800 dots / 4" = 200 d/") On the other hand, if you display the same image at 2" in Pages, then the resolution becomes 800 dots / 2" = 400 d/" resolution available for display or printing. However, the apparent quality of any such representation will depend on the monitor display or print resolution used to render the image. (I.e., you can modify the viewing/printing scale of a Pages page, as well as, the size of the image within a Pages page which affects both the relative size of the page as well as its apparent quality.
In the second rendering of your question, you asked why the PS and Pages images display at different sizes. One of the main differences between the two applications is that PS displays the image at dimensions relative to the "display" dimensions which are embedded in the image while Pages displays the same image relative to the viewing scale selected by the user which is relative the fixed resolution of your monitor and/or print resolution. (I.e., if you want the small, 1" PS view of your image to "appear" the same size as your Pages version of the same image, then reduce the resolution reference embedded in the PS file (which PS uses for display but Pages does not use) to match the current resolution of your monitor. That is, both applications must be using the same reference resolution for their display.
One last point here. If you are creating an eBook here then disregard both applications when it comes to scaling and resolution settings. Simply target your project for the size and resolution of the target eBook reading device. For example, if creating a file for an 800x600 @200 dpi device use a page size on the order of 4" x 3" (less any area not dedicated for reading display) or on the order of 4.8" x 3.6" for an 800x600 device at 166.67 dpi device, use these dimensions for your target page dimensions in Pages, and use an image that provides your best estimate of quality on the device in terms of KBs required for the saved PDF file. In this manner you should end up with an eBook that matches your project file in terms of page content.

  • Setting Image resolution of the images created by Powerpoint conversion service using PictureRequest class

    I am using PictureRequest class to get the images of the presentation as,
    PictureRequest request = new PictureRequest(inStream, ".pptx", PictureFormat.Png, outStream);
    IAsyncResult result = request.BeginConvert(SPServiceContext.GetContext(siteCollection), null, null);
    request.EndConvert(result);
    After getting the response from the PictureRequest if I check the image size (in this case png) it has the resolution of 720x540. I want bigger resolution images. I searched all over the sharepoint central administration but could not find any setting related
    to Powerpoint conversion service which may allow to set the desired image resolution.
    Could you please anyone suggest where I can specify the required resolution?
    Many thanks in advance!

    Hi,
    According to your description, you want to convert PPT file to PNG file in a specific resolution.
    There is no such OOTB settings in PowerPoint conversion service can meet your requirement. In
    PictureRequest object, there is also no related method can set the resolution of the converting image.
    As a workaround, I would suggest you do the conversion outside SharePoint, there will be more options available to handle the properties of the converted images.

  • How to change image resolution in oracle forms.

    Hi Experts,
    I am working on oracle forms 10g (Windows7 OS). Can we get the image resolution of an image item in oracle forms? Can we resize the image in terms of resolution?
    I have a requirement where user can upload only 1280x720 size images. Either i have to validate the image resolution and give them a message saying 'Only 1280x720 size images are allowed' or simply i have to convert the image to be upload to 1280x720 size and save in the database. If someone could give the solution for the above problem that would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Pramod SR

    1. You need to resample.
    2. You can automate the process.
    1.
    Open one of the images.
    Go to Image > Image Size
    Set the units to Percent (100)
    Change the resolution to 300 ppi (not cm!)
    Make sure Resample is checked
    2. automation
    Test the above steps to make sure it works.
    Record the steps as an action.
    Make a droplet from the action.
    Drag the folder with the images to the droplet.

  • Does any body knows how to detect the resolution of an inserted image in word?

    Does any body knows how to detect the resolution of an inserted image in word?

    I'm not sure I understand your reply but when you insert images into Word that are larger than will fit on the page, they are automatically compressed. If you right click and select Size and Position you can restore it to 100% but you will not see all the image.

  • Inserting images in Crystal Reports

    Hello,
    I have two questions regarding the use of pictures in a Crystal report :
    1. Is there a maximum dpi resolution limit for pictures to be inserted in a Crystal Reports.
    2. Is there a way to control the PDF output picture quality ? When exporting to PDF, the quality of the picture is reduced.
    Thank you
    Anthony

    I have the following questions about inserting images into Crystal Reports:
    1.  Can the images be positioned horizontally?
    2. When there is more that one image attached to a database record, can the number of images be limited in the report?
      (For example, limit the number of images for each record to two.)
    3. If there is more than one page to a record, how can the image for the record be suppressed on all pages subsequent to the first page of the report?
    4.  If there is no image attached to the database record, how the space reserved for the image closed up?
    Thank you.

  • Poor displayed image resolution?

    I've just started using FormsCentral I've inserted an image created in PhotoShop and saved both as a jpg (600dpi) and as a png. But the displayed image resolution (in FormsCentral preview) for either format is terrible. What have I done wrong?

    If the space the image is placed in is smaller then the image size then our servers scale it down to fit. The best thing to do is make sure the image is not wider than the page and not taller than the space. Also save it at a lower web dpi so we don't reprocess it on the server.
    Hope that works for you.

  • Downgrading Image Resolution Using JAI

    I am interested in downgrading the resolution of TIFF images that I am inserting into a PDF to reduce the document's file size. The TIFF images are either CCITT G4 bitonal or JPEG RGB. What would be the best approach to doing this using JAI?
    I appreciate any suggestions.

    The following code will load a TIFF image (or JPEG or some other formats that I can't remember) into a PlanarImage object and then rescale it according to the scale factors and then save as a TIFF.
    For example if you wanted to change a 320 x 240 image to a 160 x 120 use xScaleFactor and yScaleFactor of 0.5.
      public static PlanarImage rescale(String inputFilename, String outputFilename, float xScaleFactor, float yScaleFactor)
            // load the image from the file
            PlanarImage image = JAI.create("fileload", inputFilename);
            ParameterBlock rescaleParameters = new ParameterBlock();
            rescaleParameters.addSource(image);
            rescaleParameters.add(xScaleFactor);
            rescaleParameters.add(yScaleFactor);
            // saving as TIFF is a little more complicated than loading
            try
                FileOutputStream out = new FileOutputStream(outputFilename);
                TIFFEncodeParam parameters = new TIFFEncodeParam();
                ImageEncoder encoder = ImageCodec.createImageEncoder("TIFF", out, parameters);
                try
                    encoder.encode(image);
                    out.close();
                catch (IOException e)
                    System.out.println("Failed to encode the image");
            catch (java.io.FileNotFoundException ioEx)
                System.out.println("Could not write to file " + filename);

  • What is the image resolution in the PDF file for an "Add Image"?

    I am using Acrobat Pro XI.  I added a 600 dpi image to my PDF file.  When I click on it and copy a chunk of it, then paste it into paint, the image resolution is 96 dpi.  How can I tell the resolution is of images in my PDF file?  I am trying to keep at least 300 dpi image resolution.  Thank you for any help in understand this.

    then paste it into paint, the image resolution is 96 dpi
    That's the consequence of using the OS's clipboard.
    A PDF can have image content of different resolution.
    You can look in the application's Preferences - Convert to PDF - [select one of the supported image file formats] to observe settings.
    Some are user configurable.
    Basically if you insert "x" ppi that's the resolution of that image that is not on the PDF page.

  • How to get best image quality when inserting PDF into Word?

    I am able to insert a PDF as an object into Word, but the image quality is slightly blurry.  Is there anything I can adjust to improve image clarity in Word?

    You can try to extract the images using Extract All Images or select the Settings on the save screen that you get when you save to a DOC, but I think the general result is that the image saves with the same resolution as contained in the PDF. It may be that you need to just adjust your screen in WORD. You might want to look at the image in WORD and see if it is being used at 100% or some other resolution. Bitmaps are not very forgiving if the resolution is changed for the document and does not like anything other than low number fractions of resolution display change.

    Can an image be inserted into an RTF Template using an If-Then statement? Like this:

  • Using local/testing server with cs5 inserting images look fine in the split screen but do not show

    Hi
    If I open example: header.php and insert any photo jpeg/.html ecs i can see the images in the split screen but not in the browser if i save then refresh. I am able to make any change to the code ecs. and they are reflected just fine. I have tried this with my fireworks images .html and when that did not work i tried a strait jpeg off the desktop. This all did not work. I have deleted the local server then step by step created a new one via devnet instruction. This did not work! everything looks fine i even tried in 3 sep browsers with 0 luck....There is no remote server connected at this time because i am making a child theme for my current site. After all changes are done we will the ftp the word press files to site and change.
    Ps i even started over from scratch with 0 positive affects....

    After a lot of pain!!!!!!! the issue is fixed lol After 3 weeks I have overlooked the obvious !!! so the simple fix was the path of the image. Yes i feel stupid 10 years in lol....
    Apparently dreamweaver cs 5 will not use the full path when inserting images into the page example: If you drag the image out of your assets folder or however you do it, DW will give you a path like this <img src="images/glass.jpg" width="800" height="729"> This is not the full path and when your pist!!! you cant see things like that ;( so the image path should look like this:
    <img src="wp-content/themes/adszoom/images/glass.jpg" width="800" height="729">
    also in the html files example of bad then good!

  • When inserting image how do I force inline CSS not image tags?

    When I insert an image to my page layout it always uses html width= and height= tags
    e.g. <img src="images/wordpress.jpg" width="125" height="112">
    This is driving me nuts
    (I thought these tags were pretty old fashioned for current doctypes. Why does dreamweaver continue to use them?)
    I want inserted images to be shown with inline CSS
    e.g.  <img src="images/wordpress.jpg" style="width:125px; height:112px;">
    I can then more easily add more CSS like padding, floats etc as needed.
    Any ideas how I set this up as a default or quickly convert?

    Image height & width values are not deprecated.  Unless you're building a responsive web site, it is usually better to have these attributes stated in the HTML.
    But when I don't want them, I do the following:
    Insert > Image > browse to file...
    On the properties panel, I delete the width and height values, hit Enter.

  • How do I change the image resolution of a photo?

    Hi..,
         I am the beginner in Photoshop.
         I want to change one image resolution from 72 dpi to 300 dpi.
         So, I search and got one pdf for change the resolution of the image. In that they mention, take the "Printscreen" of the image and paste in the photoshop and change the mode(Index - flatten) and change resolution via the "Image -> image size -> Resolution".
         Like that i did, it changed correctly.
         After that I Open one already saved image file in Photoshop and do that same steps but the resolution was not changed.
    So, now how to change that saved image resolution to 300 dpi...??
    Regards.,
    VISWA

    Viswa,
    To find the current resolution of your image, follow these steps:
    With your image open in Photoshop, Image > Image Size (Like you've already done earlier).
    Check the resolution as shown above. If it doesn't show 300, enter 300, hit OK and 'Save' your image.
    Open the file and check again. If it still shows 72, post back with more details of the type of file you're trying to open in Photoshop and if possible, a screenshot so we can help.
