Image size and placement problems

I recently posted my website with iWeb. It shows up well on some computers, but on some computers the image is too large to fit on the screen and (bizarrely) the image sometimes starts halfway down the screen. This seems to happen without regard to browswers -- I have had problems on Firefox, Safari, and Explorer, but have also had it show up fine on all three of those browsers (on different computers).
I checked that the padding around the image is zero. What else could I change? I understand that the image could appear as a different size on different computers, but I don't understand why the image should show up halfway down the screen on some and on the top (as it should be) on other computers. Thanks!

The image apparently was added it to the page since it can be clicked on and dragged to the desktop. The image size is 1200 pixels wide by 600 high. You can trim off either side of that image to make is narrower so it will not force the page so wide. If you set the browser's background to the color of the the photo's background, the page background to none and make that photo narrower that will make it fit better.
Since Apple suggests that a page be 980 for iPhone compatibility trim 110 pixels off the left and right edges of the photo and make sure the photo is placed at the top of the page (remove the navbar and set the header to zero in the Inspector/Page/Layout jpane).

  • Image size and stacking problem with FF12 even in safe mode. Images are 5x the right size and overlayed on top of other pictures or text. how to fix?

OK this problems limited to Facebook only. When logged in FF12 the entire page is scrambled. The pictures are stacked over each other and are 5 to 6 times the size their supposed to be. I have tried everything I could think of to fix this it even runs like this when in safe mode. I have uninstalled all plugins and all extensions I have uninstalled and even tried back dating FF. it's still so massively out of proportion that you can't do anything. .even when zoomed out 3x it's so large the pictures are larger than my screen. They are still overlapped so bad you can't do a thing with it. Even worse I uninstalled and installed pale moon and the effects migrated to that browser as well. Only browser I found unaffected by this is IE. Lord knows I don't wanna ever have to go that rout so I'm asking for help. I have a whole list of parsing errors and decoration drops, to many to post. any help would be much appreciated until it's fixed I'm stuck with IE. Chrome wont work with the software I run only IE or FF will.

  • Image size and dimensions in Safari

Is there a fast method of viewing image size and dimentions in Safari? I can open image in new tab and see its width and height in tab/window name. I can save image to the Desktop and see file size but it's not convenient. Is there some another way without opening an saving image somewhere like Control+click -> Properties?

    Pat,
You don't need to set the image size as such. The image prints on the page according to two sets of criteria:
    1. Whether you set dpi to custom or a specific value, and
    2. The page margins you set either as a printing once-off, or as a new printing pre-set.
For example, I print "arty" photos in a portrait format on A4 matte paper. Left and right margins are around 3cm, top margin is around 3cm, bottom margin is around 5 cm (all numbers are from memory...). I have a title just below the image.
I created this particular page setup for a certain photo and liked it so much I saved it as another print preset. Any photo I print using that preset fits within the margins defined. The very next print might be the same photo, but this time printing A3+ on Ilford Galerie Smooth Pearl. Choose the photo, select the relevant print pre-set, print. Re-sizing is irrelevant - the print in both cases is coming from the processed raw at maximum resolution.

  • How do you change the image size and resolution in photoshop everytime I change the width the height changes my measurements will not stay

Can someone assist me with changing image size and resolution.  each time I change the width the height changes and vice/versa?

There's a chain link between width and height. The point is to keep the aspect ratio the same, otherwise your picture would get stretched.
You click on the chain-link to shut that off and you can adjust width and height separately.
Also could you give us your version of Photoshop, what OS you are running it on (Windows 7 for example) and what exactly you want to do with your document?
Resolution is the print term for how many pixels will be printed on an inch of paper. It doesn't apply if your image is intended for screen viewing.

  • Reduce image size and print it out?

I scanned an image (coloring on a postcard). This size is too big to fit into a 'album' picture in MS Picture It! All I want to do is REDUCE the image and save it so that it will fit into the computer photo album I'm creating.
I've tried Image/Resize/Image Size and changed the sizing, but it still comes out the exact same size as the original. What am I doing wrong?

    > I want to REDUCE the image, not enlarge it.
I understood that - what makes you think I didn't?
    > It's 948x645 pixels. I just want the image about an inch (respectively) smaller
You can't think in terms of inches for screen images. You have to work in pixels and the actual size will depend upon the screen resolution on the machine being used to view the image.
I'd reduce the pixel size by about 80 to get the effect that you want. Use Image/Resize/Image Size and make sure that you have "Resample" checked.

Download the image to your C:\temp folder.
    4. Copy the gif file from your C:\temp folder and paste it in the same folder where your .html or .asp file is.
I copied the image with right click save as in many different areas of computer. I even put on desktop.
I add image and it shows on the site I am working in but when putting to remote side it does not view as an image on the browser.

    Basic assumptions:
    You have Defined a site.
All files reside within the defined site (including image files)
All files use the appropriate file extensions, for example, image.gif
You have saved and uploaded all site files to your server.
You are EXACTLY naming the source image (no errant capital letters) in the link.
If your other images are linking properly and showing, delete this image and insert it again (or re-link it to the image file within your site structure).

  • Image size and type

what Icon / Image size and type we should use of our own menu ?
    Giuseppe

    Hi Giuseppe,
I'm not sure what restrictions there are on image type but I always use a 24bit Bitmap image with width 18px and height 14px. For transparency, set the background colour to RGB 192-220-192 and SBO will automatically make this area transparent, regardless of the colour scheme the user has on the client.

  • Checking Image Size and Dimensions

How do I check the size of an image like a Signature or another image without having to save it and then checking it? Is there a way to check it in Safari?

What? I don't see "Inspect Element" anywhere.
Are there any plugins (perhaps at pimpmysafari.com) where we can add functions such as "Properties" for viewing image size and dimensions, as well as "View Image" to view the image by itself? I'm trying to convert from Firefox, but these are a couple of the things getting in the way.

  • Image Sizes and Resolution standards?

are there any standards for image sizes and resolution for mobile games specifically: backgrounds and backdrops?
i will be porting my game for various cell phones and i'd like to resize images to fit perfect on all cell phone screens, so what would be the best way to do this and what should my image attributes (height, width) be?
i've tried researching on google to see if there were any standards and couldn't seem to find any. if these standards are non-existent what image sizes have you used that you found worked best on various mobile phones?
    thanks

Google's right, there are no real standards for screen sizes. Some are more common than others, but there are dozens of common screen sizes.
    The most common are...
176x208 (same as 176x220, but with no status bar)
    240x320
    176x220
    [Getjar resolution stats|http://www.mobref.com/statistics/world/gDispResolution]
Unfortunately, many phones are slightly more or slightly less than those. If you cover those, you're fairly well off though. If you can make your game resolution independent, that's your best option, though with intricate overlays it may be nearly impossible to do.

  • Image size and output restrictions

Do I understand it correctly, that it isn't possible to even open larger files than 1600x1600 in this app and the only local output possibility is a low quality jpeg? it's not mentioned in the description or tech data (why? ) just in some of the reviews, so I want to make sure as it is the key decision factor for me - I need an app that will allow me to adjust and export my DSLR pictures on the spot for immediate presentation e.g. at a wedding party, or to my own web gallery.

Thanks for both of your answers, so the problem of opening images is solved (my problem was that the tech specs don't state what will happen to images larger than 1600x1600, auto crop on opening would mean the app is unusable as I really don't use just the center of the image, same as not opening larger images at all. Auto resize to fit canvas size is logical, but from some of the reviews on the Android market I wasn't sure that this is what the app does and wanted to be sure. I still think that the canvas size restriction is unnecessarilly tight and eg. 2000x2000 or 2500x2500 possibility would be much more useful and not a problem for faster tablets (as I normally work with 12 Mpix raw files on a 4year old laptop), but I think I could live with this.)
But the second problem with image saving isn't solved - I need to know, what options there are for local output to the memory or SD card/USB port device in the tablet. From some of the reviews, it seems to me that it is possible to output files only by email or cloud, which seems crazy to me, but I want to make sure they are wrong... Not mentioning that it would be impossible in certain situations. eg. when photographing a wedding somewhere without wi-fi connection and with the need to output photographs for example to somebody elses computer for a slideshow or for printing them, so that the newlyweds get them at the evening party, etc...
And I don't need just the pixel dimensions of the output file, but also the possible quality settings. 1600x1600 is usually usable, but it depends on the jpeg compression setting too.

  • Image size and/or cropping with iMovie 9

I have a video in .mov format that was created by Roxio's Easy VHS to DVD software. The movie is a copy of a 4:3 aspect ratio videotape. When I review the clips from this movie in iMovie, the size and aspect ratio are identical to the original. However, when I move the clips into an iMovie project, the aspect ratio appears to be the same but all of the edges are severely cropped (it's like one used a zoom feature on the image). I get the same result whether I select 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio for the project. I have also had this experience with iPhoto -cropping occurs on any photo being printed or exported. I can convert the .mov into a video DVD or any format, without aspect ratio change cropping. But, that conversion doesn't allow me to edit the .mov.
How do I solve this problem?

I wish someone could answer this. I'm having the same problem. I imported video from my digital tape camera using iMovie (automatically saved as .dv files). In the clip viewer of iMovie (lower right part of iMovie), they appear whole. But when I drag into a project, the clips are severely cropped, just like the original post describes. It doesn't matter if I set the project to 16:9, 4:3, or 3:2 - the same cropping occurs.
    What's up with this?

  • Image size and profiles in Aperture;

    version 3.0.3.
First problem is I can't see where I can fix the image size before getting to the print page! I prefer to do this and preview it before printing, as I used to in PS and then Lightroom.

  • Image size and resolution....just when I thought I understood!

I couldn't find this question anywhere else, but I can't be the only one who's come across this:
    I have an image in a folder...finder/explorer tells me that it's 638px X 479px, and 234KB.
I open it in Photoshop and go to Image Size. PS says it is indeed 638x479pixels, but that it's 5.4" x 4.06" at 300pp and the "pixel dimensions" add up to 895KB?
(Then, when I place it in InDesign, at 100%, it measures around 2.1" x 1.6"? What's going on? If I input those dimensions into the Image Size dialogue box in PS, without resampling, it would have to be 750.25ppi. Obviously it's not.)
How big is this file really? Which program do I trust...windows explorer or photoshop?

The ppi resolution is simply a number stored with the file to indicate how large to display the image. The height and width in pixels are part of the image data itself. So the pixel dimensions are always the number to trust.
You can open an image in Photoshop and in Image Size change the resolution (ppi) and if you don't check Resample Image the actual image data don't change at all, only the number stating the pixels per inch.
The reason the Pixel Dimensions size in KB is different in Photoshop vs. Explorer is that the file is likely a Jpeg, which is compressed. When Photoshop calculates pixel dimensions, it does this based on an uncompressed file (each pixel=3 bytes for an 8-bit RGB image.) When Jpeg compression is used, a pixel can be much less than 3 bytes, and the actual number varies depending on the image quality and how detailed the image is.
To see this, save your image as an uncompressed Tiff format and the size will very closely match the pixel dimensions. But if saved as a Jpeg, it will be smaller but still the same height and width and the same ppi.
If you are using CS3, it automatically uses a form of lossless compression if saving in PSD format with "Maximize Compatibility" disabled. So in this case the file size will also be smaller than the pixel dimensions number, but if saved in Tiff, it will match that number instead.
