Image to and from PostgreSQL

Hi,
I would like to save an image object to a PostgreSQL DB but have trouble with it.
I know, that I could save the image to a BLOB field but that is not available in Postgre. I found out that the possibility in Postgre would be saving to an OID field.
But do I have to transfere it to a Binarystream or to....???????
If you also know how I could transfer it back to an Image again, it would also be of great help to me, but first I need to be able to save anything

Instead of saving the image file in the database, would it be possible instead for you to save the URL of the image file (rather than the actual image itself)?

Today however I found out that images I had been using for days just up and vanished from their new location. A few of these images had copies in another folder that remained and the ones I couldn't find may or may not have ever had copies. I had backed up my system with time machine recently as well, so I went into the backup to retreive the lost images. When I searched and found the backup copies I got the error "the file alias cannot be opened because the original cannot be located". The crazy thing is that the images that remained on my computer did not give me the same error and opened like they should.
In short images that I am creating, saving, and using are disapearing so epically that even time machine versions are affected when retrieval is attempted. Any suggestions as to what I could be doing wrong without realizing it? Or perhaps other people have had similar bugs that are software related and have a solution?

Hi Kevin,
I understand what you tried to do but it doesn't work that way. Swapping drive names will just mess things up.
You should be able to reconnect the files though: in the Locate Referenced Files dialog make sure you click the Show Reconnect Options button — this will give you access to all the connected drives. Locate one of the files and hit Reconnect All. Should do the trick.

Hi Karen
You may the sort set to Custom. Click the dropdown menu on the toolbar (to the right of the word sort) and change to capture time.
If you can’t see the toolbar above the filmstrip press the T key. Press T again to hide.

Pass image name and path to flash from html

Hello Flash Forum,
I would like to use Flash to display a larger image in an
HTML page that opens on top of a window with
thumbnail images. The thumbnail page will be a php page. If
the user clicks the thumbnail, I would like to open a swf that
diplays the larger image. I would like to pass the path and name of
the image to display to my swf. It would open a browser page (or
just a swf file) over the thumbnail page. The use could then close
the larger image display, and click another thumbnail, etc.
How could I do this? I have a swf file that will display the
image, but I would like to pass the image name from outside the swf
file.

You cannot control what appears in the share UI. The Share UI Will show all applications that have registered to receive the type of content you are sharing. So if a particular application is not appearing, then it is not registered as a Share
target for that content type.
I would run the sample on your phone for the various content types. it should give you a good idea of which apps are registered for which content type.

Images from PostgreSQL Database

It doesn't appear to be possible to display images stored in a PostgreSQL database on a report in the CR4E report designer.PostgreSQL databases usually store images in a column of type "bytea". The Field Explorer in CR4E shows this as a String[-1] type. It allows the field to be dropped on a report but it behaves just like a text field. When the report is previewed, the field is empty even if the column has an image stored in it.

I can confirm that PostgreSQL is not an officially supported database for CR4E, which means thatÂ we have not done any tests with it. Still, I would assume that it couldÂ work fine with CR4E, though, and it's definitly worth giving it a try. However,Â it is highly possible thatÂ someÂ of theÂ specific features, like the way images are stored, willÂ not be handled by CR4E.
Thx for pointing this out, we might considerÂ adding this in some future releases.

Rotation of images imported and exported from Aperture

Hi all,
Recently whilst on Holiday I used my iPad as a storage for the camera via the camera kit. When I got home I synced the iPad with the Mac to get the images into iPhoto, and then imported them into Aperture.
This is where the first problem occurred. A large number of the portrait orientated images came into Aperture upside down ????
So I selected and rotated all the incorrect ones in Aperture then carried on to sort and process them. Mostly removing the "raw, iphoto image" keywords and some cropping and tinting etc.
Then I went to iTunes and did a sync of the photos in Aperture back to the iPad (I had wiped them from the iPad after the import into iPhoto).
Again a large number of the images rotated themselves so that now they are upside down on the iPad.
It would appear that either the import or sync to iPad, or both has got something wrong.
Does anyone have any idea what to do? The images look correct now in Aperture, but are incorrect on the iPad.

Not easy to explain as i don't understand fully the details of what goes on myself, but the basics. Most cameras sense rotation, but only add a marker to tell the computer how to display the image, Some programmes see this, some don't, so you then rotate in iPhoto, then move to Aperture, and the programme now may see multiple instructions on how to display the image. Yours and the cameras. I have had this kind of problem in the past and it is very frustrating.
The Masters only have one set of information or none on older cameras. If you use the masters to put in to Aperture then do your edits you should not have this problem. If you correct this by exporting and re importing the jpeg you will loose image quality.

Yes, other users have complained about that. Unfortunately, Fireworks' development was halted a year ago, and I would be surprised if Adobe spends any money or time to fix bugs and interoperability issues in Fireworks. I would not expect any real updates or fixes.

Images from my i-pad, stored in i-photo, will randomly refuse a drag and drop attempt. I can move the image to the desktop, and from there to the document (mail etc.) and it will work (display image). As I mentioned, these events are random. ....Help !

When executing a drag and drop from i-photo to a document, occasional, random, images will refuse drop onto the document. The work around is to drag the offending image to the desk top, and from there to the document.
Question: What is causing these random "rebel" images to misbehave ?

It is better to use export or to use the media browser form the target program

Arrow down the list until you come to a site that is blocked and unblock it. There was no unblock just a delete, so I deleted it. This did not work either.
I know it is a firefox issue because the images are all there when I log in using Internet explorer, but on firefox there are many of my images missing.

Image Capture and Preview "folder not writable" error importing to shared folder

I'm running 10.8.5 on a Late 2012 model Mac Mini. I'm trying to create a folder under my home directory where my wife can import pictures using Image Capture or Preview while logged into her account. I've tried setting permissions on the folder by setting POSIX permissions and ACLs from the command line, and also by setting ACLs using Get Info in Finder, but it seems as though both Image Capture and Preview ignore the ACLs and instead rely solely on the POSIX permissions for everyone/other (even when a relevant group is set). Unless the POSIX permissions for everyone/other are "rwx" Image Capture and Preview both give an error that the import failed, and /var/log/system.log shows errors that the "folder is not writable". I'd like to be able to set this up without making the folder and the files in it writable by everyone. My understanding was that ACLs should take precedence over POSIX permissions, but even the POSIX permissions don't seem to be getting handled properly, because the group is ignored. Any help or explanation of what's happening would be appreciated.
Here's an example with details:
Suppose we have the users alice and bob. We want to set permissions on the directory /Users/bob/importdir such that Alice can import files from a camera there using Image Capture (or Preview, either would do), but don't want to relax the permissions more than necessary.
We create a group named bob_and_alice
We set the following permissions on /Users/bob:
POSIX: rwxr-xr-x, owner=bob, group=staff (i.e. default POSIX permissions)
ACLs:
0: group:everyone deny delete
1: group:bob_and_alice allow list,search,readattr,readextattr,readsecurity
2: user:alice allow list,search,readattr,readextattr,readsecurity
"Get Info" shows "Read & Write" for bob and "Read Only" for alice, bob_and_alice, staff, and everyone

Alice opens a Terminal and cd's to /Users/bob/importdir. Alice can create and delete files in this directory.
Now Alice opens Image Capture and with our camera connected we try to import a photo to /Users/bob/importdir. Image Capture shows an error dialog with the text "Import error. An error occurred while importing. The item 'foo.jpg' was not imported." /var/log/system.log shows the message: "Jul 20 22:12:34 computer_name.local Image Capture[32804]: Document destination folder is not writable" If instead Alice uses Preview it shows an error dialog with the text "The selected folder is not writable" and /var/log/system.log shows two error messages:
Jul 20 22:23:45 computer_name.local Preview[33280]: Document destination folder is not writable

Now we change the POSIX permissions on /Users/bob/importdir to: rwxrwxrwx
The import succeeds with both Image Capture and Preview
Can anyone explain what's going on here? Is there another reasonable way to do this without, moving this shared directory to /Users/shared?

Hi I have been having a problem with Bridge in CS4 recently. So uninstalled CS4 and Lightroom 4.4 and reinstalled them on my Desktop PC. When I turned on Bridge through CS4, My thumb nail images disappeared and a thumb nail icon with CR2 appeared. Now some of my images have disappeared from Light room 4.4, but I can find them in CS4 and Bridge now shows some thumb nails as images and some as an icon with CR2. I have spent two weeks going through preferences etc. to find how to resolve my problem. Please can you Help? Meany thanks in advance

I don't use LR and rarely use the bridge so I can not answers about thumbnails in them, However thumbnails in windows file explorer and windows dialog for CS2 files will only show if you have installed codec into windows that will produce them. Windows does not do CR2 thumbnails on its own. I use FastPictureViewer Codec package for RAW File and PSD files thunbmail support.
