ImageIcons like in Windows Explorer

Hi,
I am building myself a Content Management System. So far, everything went fine, but now I encountered a problem. I want to show thumbnails in my program like you can see them in windows explorer. So every time I change the selected map in the JTree it need to get all the icons from the album (which are in a database but that's no problem cuz I allready figured that out :) ) Does anyone has a clue how I can build that not too difficult ;-)
Thanks in advance !

Okay, I managed to create my self a class called thumbpanel (which extends JPanel). This class is created every time I make a new thumbnail. The thumbs will be placed inside another JPanel with a JScrollPane and a FlowLayout. Now what I had in mind is that when a row gets full, the next thumb you be placed on another row. But with a classic FlowLayout, it sorts the thumbs on one single row and you'll see a horizontal scrollbar. But what I want is only a vertical scrollbar ( if the collection is big) and if I resize the window, the number of thumbs on each row should increase e.g like a folder in Windows.
Someone gave me the hint to modify the classic FlowLayout but I don't know how.
Does anyone know how I can get this solved ? :-)

Open up the API documentation for JTree. Not far from the top there is a link to a tutorial on how to use JTrees.

  • I am a new Mac user.  How do I easily move files to new locations and folders in Finder, like I was used to doing with Windows Explorer?

I am a new Mac user, converting from the Windows world.  How do I easily transfer files from one folder location to another in Finder, like I was used to doing in Windows Explorer?

You can expand Finder into multi-panes, I am not at my Mac right now to get the exact key strokes so don't want to mislead you.  Do so many things on auto-pilot that when someone asks I need the machine so I can get the exact things to click on.
But you can get the multi-pane view and drag and drop from pane to pane.

  • How to retrieve items from Windows Explorer like My Computer?

How can a java program retrieve item names in the Windows Explorer directory structure [i.e. items in the left pane like Desktop, My Computer, Printer, Control Panel, Dial-up Networking etc.]. I retrieved all the drive names and directories using java.io.File class and displayed using JTree.

I don't believe that a lot of those items are actually "files" and directories, if you use the "dir" command in a DOS box from your Desktop I don't think you can find them...if you can then they are files etc...
Since stuff like "Control Panel" is OS specific (i.e. Windoz) then Java wouldn't support it in the core API...

  • I would like to use the windows explorer open dialog box instead of the adobe open dialog box. How can I change that?

I would like to use the windows explorer open dialog box instead of the adobe open dialog box. How can I change that?

The top screenshot is the Windows Open dialog box. All File > Open... commands in all Windows programs bring it up.   Try File > Open in Notepad for example.
It belongs to Windows not Adobe. You cannot change this because there is no such thing as an Adobe Open dialog box.
The bottom screenshot is Windows Explorer. It is Windows' OS File Browser, not an Open dialog.  It is not called up by Photoshop or any Windows program.
You have to click on "My Computer" or a Folder icon to get to it. You can double-click a psd, jpeg or other image file in the Explorer window so that it opens in Photoshop.
There is Adobe Bridge and Minibridge   Alt + Ctrl + O or File > Browse in Bridge

  • Why does iPhone put photos into random folders like "965YOKDJ" in windows explorer? I want all photos in one folder, not separated in a seemingly random manner.

When I plug my iphone 5s into my windows computer and open it in windows explorer, all the photos are separated into folders like "965YOKDJ" and "823WGTMA". The photos don't seem to be separated in a logical way. I would rather them to all be in one folder or, if they are separated, at least have them separated in a logical way like date or something. I doubt, with it being an Apple product, there would be a setting I can change on the iPhone to change the way it labels photos and folders but if anyone knows a way to make this easier and more logical can you tell me? Also if any Apple employees happen to read this could you perhaps improve the way the iphone labels its photos?

Thats the way the files have been configured since the original iPhone so I don't think they are going to change it anytime soon (since it's been 7 years) but you can certainly put in some feedback on apple.com/feedback
I feel you pain somewhat on this one (at least back when I owned a PC).  The folders are not logical nor the naming scheme.  There is no setting you can change to change this as this is created by the operating system.  I would have to assume it is some sort of code.  I have noticed that when I do not take a picture for a long while, a new folder is formed, but again, I'm not sure of the criteria on how the iOS knows when to make a new folder inside the DCIM, but I have also seen with with some digital cameras that are not phones

  • How can I read my disks like windows explorer let's me?

New to iMac and apple .... says my start up disk is full .... how can I view my disk space and programs aka windows explorer style?

First, empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space. According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB free for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of your data.
Use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space.
Proceed further only if the problem hasn't been solved.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To really see everything, you have to run it as root.
Back up all data now if you haven't already done so. No matter what happens, you should be able to restore your system to the state it was in at the time of that backup.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combinationshift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
After installing ODS in the Applications folder, drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. When you're done with it, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • Windows Explorer does not like java-files

First, I know this is very off-topic, but bear with me anyway.
I have discovered that the search-function in Windows-Explorer shows an erratic behaviour when encountering java-files (and probably other files). I did the following:
Created c:\temp\test.java with the following contents:
testI right-clicked on c:\temp, then search, and told it to look for test. Nothing. Renamed the file test.java->test.txt. Tried another search and found the file. Ok, probably an index problem, ignoring all java-files.
    Then I tried the following
Choosed the root of a project with over 1000 java-files, set to search for the keyword public. Nothing. I tried the keyword class. Nothing. Then I tried for, and voila, 8 files found.
Has anyone else encountered this particular Windows-Feature? I am using Windows XP SP2. Can anyone verify if this is a SP2 problem?
Bonus question: Does anyone know the algorithm of this Microsoft-search?

Windows search does also look for text in certain
files, and ".java" is not one of them. You need to
add the extension to the search list by manually
    adding data to the registry
    (http://pubs.logicalexpressions.com/Pub0009/LPMArticle
.asp?ID=323).Ah yes. But... why does it find some files?
That is the thing what bothers me. If it hadn't found
anything, I would say the usual "Win is crap" phrase
and forget about it.I thought the index server might be causing that.

i'm using a custom explorerframe.dll in windows explorer. Now I want the firefox navigation bar(back and forward buttons; address bar) to look exactly the same. Is there a script(userchrome.css) that can do this automatically or do i have to port the style and make my own theme?

  • To unpack an llb in Windows Explorer, right-click and choose from "Unpack" options (like WinZip...)

    Greetings,
To unpack an LLB in Windows Explorer, it would be convenient to right-click on the LLB and have an option to Unpack to current directory.  WinZip does this (for .zip files) via "Extract" options.
Then again, people may prefer using the "LLB Manager"(?)

  • Right panel in Windows Explorer

    Good afternoon,
What I've to do late in this afternoon is displaying a hierarchy of icons. They have to be portrayed like the icons for folders in the right panel in Windows Explorer. In Visual Basic the ListView component is the work horse that does this exactly.
    JListView | JTable | JPanel
Is the java component JListView reliable? Or can I better use a JTable component? Or ImageIcon within JLabel (or JButton's) within a JPanel within a JScrollPane like suggested in Dec. 2002 on this forum?
    JTable: http://www.fawcette.com/javapro/2003_01/magazine/features/bkurniawan/
    JPanel: http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?forumID=57&messageID=1357444&threadID=331621
    Thank you!

    Right pane
A JTree I would use for the left pane, I want to know how to set up a set of icons in the right pane.
    An abstract tree
Now, while I'm on this forum... What's the best way to set up an abstract tree?
1.) I have defined TreeElement with the attribute 'children' (a vector that does contain more TreeElement objects). But, maybe there is some custom way to do it.
2.) Is it smart to use JTree and keeping it invisible? Can I use the iterator() interface in that case? Do I have to implement that myself or what does it prefer to iterate first: siblings or children (width or depth)?
3.) TreeModel seems to be a binary tree, that's not what I need.
    XML
Do you have good advice with coupling such a tree to a xml document for data storage? I saw already some third party (JAXB)

  • Adobe Bridge overrides Windows Explorer functions?

Since installing Adobe Bridge CS3, I am unable to rename/copy/move folders within Windows explorer...If I want to do it, I have to use Bridge.
This is particularly annoying when new folders have to be renamed/copied/moved within OTHER programs. Example: I am processing a photo or piece of video in Nero or Quicktime and create a new folder to place the processed images/videos. I can not name that folder while within Nero or Quicktime nor can I rename it if I exit the program and use Windows Explorer. I HAVE to open BRIDGE and do it there....
    Help?

Perhaps it is something with NEro or Quicktime. Make sure they are both the latest version. There has been some conflicts with Quicktime and Bridge in previous QT updates.
I have Vista and have no problems with have not experienced any problems like you describe with Windows Explorer. I usually use WS rather than Bridge for deleting, copying, moving. I have experienced some problems with external drives and permissioning problems when using Bridge, but starting Bridge in administrative mode solved that. Right click on Bridge icon and choose "Run as Administrator".

  • Windows PARTIALLY reconises iPOD - Yes to iTunes, No to Windows Explorer...

Right, I've read all of the posts on the fourms about connection to Windows, but this one is slightly different.
My ipod nano (4gb), has been working just fine for a couple of months (has just been replaced by Apple). I use it primarily for music through iTunes, but also sometimes as a portable hard drive.
All of iTunes and music is stored on my PC at home, but I also connect nearly every day to the PC's at my university.
Ok - so I'm sitting right now at the uni with my ipod connected (to charge), and the uni machines immediately pick it up and add it as a device. It is currently showing in Windows Explorer, and I can view it, edit it, and access all of the information that is currently on it - no problem.
The problem happened yesterday at home. For the first time ever, when connected my PC no longer recognises it properly. When you connect it initially, you get the "new device" sound from Windows, and the "new hardware" icon in the system tray pops fine. If I have Windows explorer open, it shows the Ipod fine, and allocates it a drive letter.
HOWEVER, after about 5 or 6 seconds, the ipod entry in Windows Explorer disappears again, never to be seen again. From this point on, it is inaccessible through Windows explorer.
FURTHERMORE, iTunes still picks it up fine! Even after it has disappeared from Windows explorer, it is still sitting there in the left hand menu of iTunes just fine. I can still access and update ok within iTunes - from the iTunes point of view, there doesn't seem to be any problem at all.
    Therefore I am extremely confused.
It has been a couple of weeks since I last used the ipod with my home machine. The ONLY thing that has changed, is the SP2 updates which the machine automatically downloaded and updated. Therefore, I am concerned that this is the direct cause. I use Norton Internet Security 2006 on my machine, and it kicks up all sorts of fuss, if you don't have Windows updater set to automatic. I am aware of several Windows updates that it is has downloaded automatically (which you can see installing during the shut-down sequence).
    * I can eliminate my apple data cable, as it is working fine on the PC that I am using right now.
    * I can eliminate the ipod itself, as again, this is working fine with the PC that I am using right now.
    * I can eliminate my USB ports on my home machine, as they too work fine with several other flash sticks connected to them.
    * I have NOT downloaded or installed the recent 23.6.06 ipod updater which seems to be causing everyone lots of bother!
If I disconnect and reconnect the ipod, Windows Explorer, then briefly picks it up again, but then loses it again after about 6 seconds!
Also - the ipod is picked up fine (when connected) in Device Manager. It is listed under the "disk drives" icon, and when probed, Device Manager claims that it is working properly.
Also - the ipod is listed under the "safely remove hardware" icon in the sys tray. It simply isn't given a drive letter, which is the only apparent problem.
I remain CONFUSED, as it to what is partially blocking my ipod - it is clearly linked to Windows Explorer, and my guess is that some sort of security feature is causing it not to have a drive letter. I have Norton in charge of my security settings, and have mostly disengaged Windows in-house security settings.
I would be VERY, VERY grateful if someone can please help me, or let me know if they have suffered the same problem, and identified the resolution.
If I can't find an answer - I will try the 5 R's - which I didn't have time to do yesterday, and update if this is successful.
    Thanks

Can I ask you another question? (separate)
When using itunes - I had thought that you could literally dump ALL of your music into the itunes library and purely select what you want to appear on you ipod, by selecting the check-boxes, next to each track listed in the main library!?
I have my ipod full all of the time - and I would like to think that I can add more to my itunes library than actually appears on the ipod itself. However, I find that when I add a new folder to the itunes library - if I update my track listings by unchecking the older stuff in the itunes library that I want to remove from the ipod, and leaving the new stuff checked - when you click on update ipod - it does not delete the old "unchecked in itunes" stuff as I want it, and merely tries to add the new tracks. Because the ipod is already full - it cannot continue, and tried to offer a compromise of adding as much as it can etc etc.
The only way I have found to remedy this so far, is to physically "clear" all of the unwanted songs from the itunes library (but keeping the files where they are located on the HD), and then adding the new tracks/folders - and then itunes DOES delete the removed songs from the library, and adds the new ones.....
Is there a better way of doing this?
    hi Richard!
Why also then, will she not show up on my home PC
(with the itunes installed), but show up perfectly
fine in Windows Explorer on the uni PC's?
yeah, i'm wondering about that too. the settings
in that preference tab are (mostly) stored on the
ipod itself, which is how if you switch an ipod to
"manually manage" on one PC, it connects manually to
a different PC also. so, initially, we're going to be
trying to work out which PCs (home or Uni) you're
    getting the anomalous behavior on.
perhaps take a note of what preferences you've got
engaged when you're plugged into one of the uni PCs,
too? that might help with the untangling process.
    keep us posted.
    love, b
