I am a new Mac user, converting from the Windows world. How do I easily transfer files from one folder location to another in Finder, like I was used to doing in Windows Explorer?
You can expand Finder into multi-panes, I am not at my Mac right now to get the exact key strokes so don't want to mislead you. Do so many things on auto-pilot that when someone asks I need the machine so I can get the exact things to click on.
But you can get the multi-pane view and drag and drop from pane to pane.

Yes 10.8.2 is the latest version of Mountain Lion. 10.7 was Lion and 10.6 was Snow Leopard.

New Mac user: Is it possible to move more than one file at a time on a Mac?
I'm a new Mac user. Something so simple in Windows doesn't seem possible in Mac OS and AppleCare doesn't have a clue either. I have edited video files as well as the master footage video file in individual folders created by FCP. I need to transfer 6 video files, 20GB each, onto an external hard drive. This will need to run overnight because I'm using an external HD with only USB and it will take 10 hours or so. How do I transfer these 6 files all at once?
Note: The 6 files are in 6 different folders. I can't transfer the entire 6 folders because they contain other video files in them that I don't need to transfer and are larger than my 20 GB edited files. And last, I shouldn't have to drag these files individually to a folder on the desktop first, because that will take an hour and is a waste of time because I would have to sit there and wait for each to finish.As a new Mac user, you might find the following sites helpful:

First of all, welcome to the bright side! ; )
Seriously, I am sure you will enjoy your new Mac experience.
About the files. Word documents can be open without any conversion using Word for Mac. The compatibility is close to 100%. You can also see some of those documents using the included TextEdit application that came included in the operating system. Pages also manages Word documents.
When you talk about music, what kind of files are you using? For MP3 you can use iTunes, no conversion needed. For WMA, you can first convert them to AAC in iTunes for PC and then import them to your library in the Mac. You can also download the Windows Media Player for Mac from www.mactopia.com to listen to your WMA using that player, but I would strongly recommend to use iTunes since that application works with the rest of the iLife suite (iMovie, iDVD, iPhoto, iWeb and Garageband).
For pics, move your pictures to a folder and then import them or just drag and drop that folder in the iPhoto window. All the files require no conversion at all.

New Mac user: how do I kill a fishing app in safari?
I have a pop-up in Safari. It appears to be a fishing app. I can't kill the window. Closing Safari and rebooting doesn't help. When Safari is reopened, the pop-up is still active.
Quit Safari (by force if necessary.) Relaunch it by holding down the shift key and clicking its icon in the Dock. That will stop the page from reloading automatically. Select Safari > Preferences > Privacy > "Remove all website data" to get rid of any cookies or other data left by the server. Open your Downloads folder and delete anything you don't recognize.

can't shrink the home page to unlock, but, my itunes started playing randomly, without any prompts.
Try double tapping the screen with three fingers at once. That should unzoom it. If not hold the home and lock buttons at the same time to restart the phone.

How to show title of link that is drag and dropped into messages (like it was in iChat)
I recently updated from Lion to Mavericks and with that came the change from iChat to Messages. My problem that I have is that back when I had iChat I could just drag and drop links (example from Reddit) into the chat window and then the link would be shown with the link title from the website instead of just the address.
Is there a setting I can change to get this back? Right now I am having to hand type all the titles/descriptions and then provide the web address.Hi,
I was thinking through how I have sent Links for web sites in ichat in the past and if I had changed now.
I have always Copied and Pasted the URL and had not tried Dragging the URL to iChat/Messages.
I have just tried from my Snow Leopard computer to my Mavericks one and I see the full URL at the snow Leopard end and the Mavericks end (using Bonjour)
However If i Drag a link from on a Page then that title to the link is what I see.
It also works from Mavericks to the Snow Leopard computer.

I have found this picture and have my own version of a piggy bank. I put my green piggy bank into this background and it covers this one and doesn't look too bad because it is the same texture. But I still feel like it needs to be tweaked a little to look more real. How do I achieve this. And can somebody maybe help me do it please?

So yes like mentioned above...i am a new mac user...have only had it about four days and have had a windows based system always before this. The issue I am having is that I will be in safari and it will work perfect for a while and then i will open a new tab and attempt another website and it will either be extremely slow or will give the error that it cannot connect to the server, however, when i run diagnostics my internet is fine. The only solution i have found is to reboot and geeksquad has been unable to replicate the problem while connected to my computer to try to do so. Does anyone have any suggestions or anyone else with this problem? If you have a "fix" please try layman's terms because again I have no idea about macs haha. Thanks,

What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
When you write "move" file, do you mean "movie" file?
Do you have QuickTime installed on your computer along with Premiere Elements? If not, please do so.
Generalizing because you did not give all the details, I would say that the Canon 60D AVCHD.mov file should be supported by
Premiere Elements as long as you have QuickTime installed on the same computer with Premiere Elements.
Please review and consider and supply more details.
