Imovie will not recognize movie clips in the iphoto library within imovie
I have video clips in IPHOTO that I trimmed (edited) but when I open IMOVIE and go to the IPHOTO library, it does not recognize the edited clip. It still shows the full clip. What do I do?

I have copied my iphoto library to an external hard drive. I pointed iPhoto to the new location. I can import photos with no problem, but when I try to import video files (from my iPhone or from another drive) I get a message that the file is not recognized. When I moved the iphoto library back to the MAC hard drive, the import works OK both for photos and videos.
I am using iphoto 11 and all the videos were taken with my iphone.
Any ideas?Video could be imported from an iPhone before the library was copied to an external drive.
The video that was imported before the library was moved could be read before and after the library was moved to an external drive.
Video from the same iPhone cannot be imported into the library once the library had moved ton an external drive.
The problem is that video can no longer be imported into the library that was moved to an external drive. Photos from the same iPhone can be imported and read. -

Given the extreme limitations outlined in the article Allen linked to, and given thst iMovie HD 6 is known to work with Mountain Lion, you might be better served by installing iMovie 6 on your Mac.
You can still keep iMovie 11 as well:
Happily this is easily achieved, but it has to be done backwards.
Delete iMovie 11 (just drag it to the trash). Now install iMovie 6 from the iLife 6 install disks. Update it to iMovie 6.0.3.
Now re-install iMovie 11. This automatically moves iMovie 6 into a folder it creates in your Applications folder called iMovie Previous Version.
Then reinstall iMovie 11.
iMovie 6 works great with iDVD 7.
Now you have them both, and you can have both in the Dock as well. -
I have iMovie 09. I just erased my external hard drive, but it is still formatted for the mac. However, iMovie will not recognize the hard drive. It shows the only hard drive available is the computers. How do I get the external hard drive to show up?
In Finder's Menu, select Go menu>Go to Folder, and go to "/volumes". (no quotes)
Volumes is where an alias to your hard drive ("/" at boot) is placed at startup, and where all the "mount points" for auxiliary drives are created for you to access them. This folder is normally hidden from view.
Drives with an extra 1 on the end have a side-effect of mounting a drive with the same name as the system already think exists. Try trashing the duplicates with a 1 or 2 if there are no real files in them, and reboot.

Where to store movies ? in the iPhoto Library or the iMovie Library
Hi,
I never had a digital video camera. All my video footage has been shot with my photo cameras. I started with very few clips, never really used iMovie and was most of the time a happy camper with iPhoto. As the photos and the video clips were and are produced on the same device I just followed the most convenient way and imported everything into my iPhoto library.
Switching to the Panasonic FZ18 at the end of 2007 and to the Panasonic FZ28 lead to better "quality" clips and I am now generating much more video footage than I did previously. I did not change the old habit of importing everything into my iPhoto library.
In the middle of the transition to iLife 09 I ask myself if this decision is still the best. So what I need are some arguments pro and con.
Shall I separate my video clips from the iPhoto library and transfer them to the iMovie video library to make them real iMovie events and not only part of the iPhoto section? What would be benefits?
How would this be done? Export the videos from iPhoto delete them in iPhoto and import them into iMovie? We are talking about 6 hours 30 minutes of footage in about 800 clips.
How would the import from the device or the storage card be done in the future?

when I started using iLife 08 I imported all my photos and all video clips shot withfootage into iPhtoI think it's a matter of choice, personally I don't see any particular advantage in moving them (with possible exceptions) but there would really be no need to have them in both places.
The exceptions I mention are:
Having video in im instead of ip, frees the video from being stored in your photo library, you would be able to move it to an external drive for example without having to move all of your photo library.
Also being in iphoto, the video is shared with other iphoto users, this isn't the case with im video. -
when i go to attach a photo to email or load it to facebook it will not display any photos from my iphoto library and only allows me load ones that are in photo booth or saved on the desktop. Any ideas what is wrong?

Thank youIs there any chance you launched iPhoto while the external hard drive was not available? If so you may have created a virtual EHD - if so unmount your EHD and in the finder go menu ==> go to folder == /Volumes and if you see your EHD there drag it to the desktop - then remount it and launch iPhoto and see if you see both libraries

When I try to sync photos to my iPod (80gb video Ipod) it gives me the error "The iPod cannot by synced. The required file cannot be found." Does anyone know what file this is and why it cannot find it? However, when switching to a new MacBook Pro, I observed what happened and found out the root of the problem.
When you tell iTunes to sync your iPod with your iPhoto Library, it creates a folder called "iPod Photo Cache" at >User>Pictures>iPhoto Library, which depending on the size of your iPhoto library, or how many pics you want to sync with iTunes, it can be huge! (1,600+ pics created a 1Gb+ folder).
The solution is obvious: just delete that folder and let these applications create a new one next time you instruct iTunes to sync your photos. To be sure, next time you open iTunes after you throw away that folder, uncheck the iPhoto option, close iTunes, make sure the folder is gone, and then, when you open iTunes again with your iPod connected, check it again having made sure that the pesky folder is not there and iTunes (or iPhoto, who knows) will create a fresh one.
By the way, iPod Photo Cache folders are created all over the place! Do a Spotlight search in your hard drive and you will be amazed about how many you will find!

Have tried to connect Sony Handycam DCR-HC38 to Macbook Pro via Firewire 800-9pin to 4-pin cable. I Movie will not recognize camera. I have transferred media on old Macbook (black version) with different firewire. Does the new IMovie not support this product?

Imovie will not recognize itunes
All of a sudden imovie will not authorize my computer to play purchased itunes music, It will not allow an older project to play a song that played 3 months ago., or allow a purchased song to be added to a newer project from my library. Do I have a virus? Why wont the imovie recognize itunes.

You might try closing iTunes and iMovie and then trashing the files com.apple.iTunes.plist and com.apple.iMovie.plist found in User/Library/Preferences. (The programs will create new .plist files upon relaunch.) Then do a permissions repair using the Disk Utility app on your Mac.
Is it possible that you for some reason changed the name on your iTunes account so that the purchased songs are not recognized as authorized?
Is your iTunes updated to current version? But I would avoid updating to Quicktime 7.5 at this time, as some users have reported problems with jerky playback and out of sync music after the update.
Finally, try posting your question on the iTunes forum and see if those folks have a solution.

I know some of my photos have NOT been imported in to the iPhoto library. How can I find which ones?
In error, for a period, I had iPhoto set up such that photos were not imported into the iPhoto library but left scattered around my iMac. How can I find which ones without selecting each individual photo - there are nearly 9,000?
Are you able to view them in full size in the library, i.e. don't get this
when you try to view the photo in full size? If you can then you can do the following to consolidate all of the master image files inside the library.
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.>Click on the Add Library button,
2 - select the library you want to add from those in the selection window.
3 - make sure that in the rebuild window the checkbox "Scavange orphaned photos" is checked.
4 - now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
5 - in the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed. Click on the Create button.
Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note 2: Your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired. -
Background: I'm transferring file folders from a Visa laptop via an external hard drive to my IMac. In the folders are photos and videos from different cameras. SO I first tried to import to IMovie but it would not recognize any of the files. So then I imported into IPhoto and both photos and videos were imported and I created events for each folder. When I first opened IMovie I had to wait for it to create "thumb nails". Then I could view the events in IMovie BUT the video clips are not together because they have vastly different dates and are mixed with videos from other events. I looked at the dates and said I can fix that in IPhoto which i did but those new dates are not showing up in IMovie. I think I need to somehow refresh the event data that Imovie is using but have not found how to do that in either IPhoto or IMovie.
I'm doing this on three events with about 100 photos and videos. But I have many 1000s more to do so need to know how to either fix this or delete these events, reimport, change the dates, then open again in IMovie. I'm sure that would work but I can't understand why changing the dates in IPhoto is not being reflected in IMovie.
Appreciate any tips or pointers.

Well moving to a different discussion group did not provide an answer to this question either. But what I finally did was import one batch of photos and videos into IPhoto for a given day at a time. Working with these I could change the date and times in order to get them in the original sequench taken. Then I would create an album with that batch. These would all be on the same day (IMove was closed for this phase). Then I would open IMovie, generate the thumbnails for that album, and select the album I had created. This was necessary because the importing process in IPhoto was using incorrect dates for my video so it was a real struggle finding them in IMove until I developed this approach.
I believe that this whole process was so screwy because I was importing from an external hard drive not a camera. I had these photos on a PC and did not have the original cameras to use to import directly which I am fairly sure would have made this easier! -

That's odd.
If you have an empty iMovie project, iMovie will switch to the attached camera's standard (in this case PAL).
If the iMovie project is NOT empty, iMovie will tell you it can't import from the camera, because it's of the wrong standard.
If you need to convert between PAL<->NTSC, use the JES DeInterlacer for best results:

IMovie will not read .mov made in keynote
I've been working on a presentation in Keynote and exported it to a .mov file. The file had some audio problems, so I was going to fix it in iMovie. When I tried to import, the file was not available for me to click on for importing. So I'm stuck.

An MOV file is simply an MOV file container with up to 99 tracks of various types of data in compatible compression formats -- not a compression format itself. Since iMovie '08 is "content conscious." it's ability to import/edit files depends on the specific type of data/compression format you are trying to import. Therefore, to know why a particular file will not import you will have to examine the specific content of each track and determine problem tracks and either eliminate theme or convert them to something that iMovie '08 will accept/be able to edit. (I.e., iMovie '08 will only import/edit specific audio/video compression formats and will not import files with superfluous tracks like "Tween" or "Chapter" tracks.)
NOTE: If all you want to do is correct audio problems, GarageBand would likely be the better editor here since it does not have iMovie '08's import/edit limitations and is an application designed more specifically for audio editing. -
Siri will not recognize Mindi Abair in the music app?
Siri will recognise other artists for me but when I ask for Mindi Abair, it searches for "Mindy a bear." I'm using an iPhone 4S with 16 GB RAM and iOS 8.0.2. I've tried "tap to edit" several times and Siri doesn't seem to remember the changes. I've also tried playing Mindi tunes, asking Siri the name of the artist, and then attempted to pronounce her name the same as Siri. For me, that just produces a wider range of errors. I suppose I could create and name my own playlist but it seems a shame that I can't just ask for my favorite Grammy winning artist. Any suggestions?
Try this, tell Siri:
"Siri, you're not pronouncing Mindi Abair correctly".
Siri will ask how you pronounce it and give you choices for the pronunciation of both first and last name.
Select the best ones and Siri will remember the correct pronunciation going forward.
BTW, You can find the "MindiAbair" app on the App Store.
