Impact of HANA in ABAP

Hi Experts,
I was looking at some blogs on HANA and I was searching for some documents/tutorials in the internet.
I want to know what will the impact of HANA concet in ABAP programming language.
What new features will be added to ABAP if the integration of  HANA features into ABAP happens?
Respose will be highly appreciated.
Thanks,
RK

Hi Ravi,
Traditional SAP ABAP applications only offload very limited functionality into the database using SQL.Most of the application logic is executed in the ABAP application server which means that data to be operated upon needs to be copied from the database into the application server and vice versa. When executing data intensive logic, this copying of data is very expensive in terms of processor and data transfer time.
The SAP HANA database is optimized for modern technology trends (e.g. data resides in main-memory, massive-parallelization on multi-core CPUs).
The SAP HANA Database can  leverage such hardware to optimally support application requirements by the use of  SQLScript   to offload data-intensive application logic into the database.
Thanks,
Goutham

  • Consuming SAP HANA from ABAP

    Dear all!
I am trying to get data FROM HANA into ABAP AS (so an opposite unusual direction ).
What is the best way of connecting them? Can't find any description.
In Simple words: I have an ABAP program. Now i need connect to  Hana (RFC, whatever), then from ABAP program send SQL statement into HANA and then get data back.
    What is the easiest/best way?

    Hello,
please check SAP HANA Database - SQL Script Guide
page 43 - chapter Calling SQLScript from ABAP
    https://service.sap.com/~sapidb/011000358700000604932011
There is nice example how to call SQL Script from ABAP (this also includes calling SELECT statements).

  • BW data model and impacts to HANA memory consumption

    Hi All,
As I consider how to create BW models where HANA is the DB for a BW application, it makes sense moving the reporting target from Cubes to DSOs.  Now the next logical progression of thought is that the DSO should store the lowest granularity of data(document level).  So a consolidated data model that reports on cross functional data would combine sales, inventory and purchasing data all being stored at document level.  In this scenario:
Will a single report execution that requires data from all 3 DSOs use more memory vs the 3 DSOs aggregated say at site/day/material?Lower Granularity Data = Higher Memory Consumption per report execution
I'm thinking that more memory is required to aggregate the data in HANA before sending to BW.  Is aggregation still necessary to manage execution memory usage?
    Regards,
    Dae Jin

    Let  me rephrase.
I got an EarlyWatch that said my dimensions on one of cube were too big.  I ran SAP_INFOCUBE_DESIGNS in SE38 in my development box and that confirmed it.
So, I redesigned the cube, reactivated it and reloaded it.  I then ran SAP_INFOCUBE_DESIGNS again.  The cube doesn't even show up on it.  I suspect I have to trigger something in BW to make it populate for that cube.  How do I make that happen manually?
    Thanks.

  • Custom Development impact on HANA migration

Does anyone have any metrics, white papers, or lessons learned regarding the LOE required to adapt custom code to be HANA compliant. I know that there are some tools being provided by SAP, but with mature customers we see a good deal of custom code. What can be shared regarding the LOE to ready this code for the IMDB? What has the experience been thus far.

    Hi,
in your question title you are asking Fiori app on HANA with Gateway and in the description without GW.
Now Assuming that you want to develop Fiori App using HANA without Gateway OData services, you have option to consume HANA XS OData services in your UI5 and/or Fiori App. Please refer this blog Creating Content on HANA with ODATA and Displaying it with SAPUI5 - Part 2/3

  • Learn ABAP for HANA

    Hi
I am interested in knowing more and learning about SAP HANA and ABAP for HANA.
I found a few links on SDN, but am not sure where to start from. Is there any link where I can start learning about it from basics?
    Thanks

    Hello Yusuf,
You can follow the thread Re: What is SAP HANA basic terms?

  • AWS HANA ABAP and sap logon pad

I am looking to consume HANA views with ABAP (as demostrated here SAP HANA Academy - ABAP: How to consume HANA procedures in ABAP - YouTube  )
I have an AWS account with a HANA installation running with which I have connected with HANA Studio (rev 80) successfully.
The SAP GUI 730 (Patch 4 Hotfix 2) is installed and I have also successfully installed Eclipse Kepler (in accordance with this guide Step-by-step Guide to setup ABAP on HANA with E... | SCN )
When I try to create an ABAP project I am asked to either use the connection details in the SAP logon pad or connect manually. I have not maintained the logon pad details and hence wish to connect manually.
Here is where it gets fuzzy to me. In order to connect with my HANA instance what do I enter as:
    - Application server? The IP-address of the HANA instance, right?
    - Instance number?
    - System-Id?
    - SAP router string?
I assume that this is all information that is available with my AWS instance, but I dont know where to find it.  Furthermore, I am assuming that no additional components are required in my set-up. If this assumption is wrong please indicate what is missing.
    I greatly appreciate any support.
    Thanx

  • SAP BW ON SAP HANA..

    Hi Experts,
I would like to ask a simple question. (Might be quite stupid one for the experts...) in order to determine the right direction for me to achieve the bright future..
While I knew nothing about SAP Technologies about couple months ago, I am about to finish SAP HANA Application Associate certification, as my academic background is B.Sc. (Maths), and Data Operator as a work experience along with (Business Management work experience), I am planning to go for SAP BW on SAP HANA or ABAP ON SAP HANA (As I love working with SQL as well as I believe it might be quite interesting to go for) course too, just to polish my SAP Knowledge as well as my chances in the competitive market nowadays.
Currently through SAP Trial offers I am playing with SAP BusinessObjects Products, SAP HANA obviously, SAP Predictive Analysis and SAP Lumira, by contributing full-time behind learning these modules.
Would it be right choice for me to do so? Any response would be appreciated..
    Cheers,
    Hemang.

Continue focusing on HANA as there are lot of projects which are demanding HANA skills only. There is no need to jump into BW as there are already many BW Consultants. There is no harm in having knowledge on BW or BO. But, I would recommend you to polish your skills on HANA only and try to get on the implementation project and complete at least one full implementation on the same. If you get an opportunity to learn CAR (Customer Activity Repository), it would be great as this skill is also in demand and quite difficult to find.
So, I would suggest you to stick to HANA and learn something inline to it like CAR. This way, you will be getting competitive advantage for your profile.
    Regards
    Shanu.

  • SAP HANA calculation field

    Hello,
I have a query on the new calculated field in SAP HANA. What is the usage of this field, what are the pre-requisites and potential case when it is recommended to use such fields? Do we need to have a calculative view to use the calcluated field or can it be used directly in ABAP code?
Kindly let me know. We are in the process of code optimization for HANA.
    Best Regards,
    Mohit

    Hey Mohit,
can you please give a bit more details, e.g. documentation about what you refer to as "the new calculated field in SAP HANA".
Concerning the details of usage within HANA, i.e. whether you need a calculation view etc. you might have a look at the SAP Help (Introduction - SAP HANA SQL and System Views Reference - SAP Library)) or maybe directly in the HANA SQL reference (http://help.sap.de/hana/SAP_HANA_SQL_Script_Reference_en.pdf).
From my answer I think you can directly guess, that there's no way in directly accessing the calculated field from ABAP - except of course if you access it using native SQL (ADBC or EXEC SQL).
For code optimization in SAP HANA (from an ABAP developers perspective), you might want to have a look at our Open SAP course (ABAP Development for SAP HANA - Dr. Jasmin Gruschke and Jens Weiler) or in the documentation given in our "Get Started" Section of ABAP for SAP HANA namely ABAP for SAP HANA Reference Scenario and ABAP for SAP HANA Reference Scenario - AS ABAP 7.4 Support Packages.
In case you need more HANA (less ABAP) related information for your question, you might additionally contact the HANA experts on SAP HANA Developer Center.
    Cheers,
    Jasmin

  • Right path for sap hana

Is this a right track for a fresher to get into SAP HANA?
I am sap abap consultant and have interest to learn sap hana...
According to me,I wanted to first learn sap bi through a small or local institute and the n go for sap hana training from Sap bangalore center
Is this the right track for me?
    SAP ABAP--->>SAP BI--->>>SAP HANA.
Can anyone guide me about how much experience will be sufficient to gain sap hana?

If you do not have knowledge on SAP BW, BO, BI then also you can learn (career) in HANA. SAP pointed HANA as the in Memory DB as same as the place where all applications going to run in future. If you’re a person known to Database Concepts and having basic Knowledge of SQL will help you to learn SAP HANA at ease.
Since you are an ABAP Consultant the knowledge of ABAP will help you in understanding the business logic implementation. Do not think that ABAP is going to get wind up, it is getting powered by HANA with Smarter, Lighter and Faster that is called ABAP for SAP HANA. Good Career you find while learning HANA with ABAP. Chances of earning $80000 - $160000
Learning HANA Modeling is easy when you have knowledge of BW if not, you will get to it on the class.
You will get to know Business Objects concepts at the time of HANA ideas on Reporting, if you are known to it then you will find your way on HANA Reporting.
SAP Business Intelligence the DW operational tool which helps you to understand implementation ideas from Business Warehouse on HANA viewpoint. If you are not going to work on BW on HANA it is not necessary to learn SAP BI.
So it is not necessary learning SAP BI Before going to SAP HANA but Choose the Platform on which you have planned since there are various types of HANA Certification. If you have still doubts  look into these words http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-39531 for better concepts or talk to top trainers for direct interactions at http://techjobs.sulekha.com/sap-hana-training

  • CTS+ for SAP Hana

I am going to set up CTS+ for SAP Hana non-ABAP development.
However, the same SAP Hana landscape also has ABAP development.
I think on tcode STMS I cannot have two transport routes with exactly the same DEV, QA and PROD,
i.e. we cannot have two transport routes as follows on STMS:
So how to set up separated transport routes for ABAP and non-ABAP development for the same SAP Hana
    landscape?
    Thanks!

    Hi Christina,
For transporting non-abap objects using cts+, you can refer Transporting Non-ABAP Objects in Change and Transport System - Software Logistics - SAP Library
Not sure of any difference on hana platform.

    Hi,
I want to shift from ABAP to BW on HANA and for the same I want some documents.I don't know from where to start. Can someone please help to guide me step by step with some good material ?
And more importantly I want to practice on system. Whatever docs I am searching are all theory based.

    Hi sumeet durgia,
That seems to be a good idea!
Regarding materials:There are huge number of documents available in this SDN space: SAP BW Powered by HANA.Also see www.saphana.com, https://cookbook.experiencesaphana.com/bw/ and so on for some wonderful materials. I am afraid you might not be getting any SAP certification documents here in this forum, as its against the policy.
Hope you are aware that SAP Has launched certifications on the following topics:
    BW on HANA and

  • Want to move to BI \ HANA

    Hi Experts,
I have total more 9 years’ experience in SAP ABAP HR \ HR space . I would like to move to BI or SAP HANA .Could you please suggest which area is more attractive and if you can provide difference between two areas will much appreciated.
    With regards
    Renjith

    Hi Renjith,
BI is a module in SAP like ABAP. In abap, you will have programming whereas in BI, it is naviagtional work and a bit of abap also part of it.
Here other part common for both is ECC (R3 system). Like the same HANA is also new inmemory database system where you can do BI and ABAP as well with high performance.
It is better if you can continue focus with SAP HANA and ABAP. Hana is the new platform where you can develop all the modules from now.
If you want to switch to BI only: In BI you will have modeling, extraction and reporting. here also you will have many data transforming things from business perspective.
    Hope helps - Kumar

    Hello Snehal,
First of all, you could have started a new thread of discussion as this thread belongs to Debapriya.
Well, coming back to your query, i must tell you : You cant imagine how  lucky you are to be in such a position where you have been asked to learn both. There are thousands around you will find who is trying so hard to get into such position but failing finding it too hard as getting a break into SAP is a tough one.
To answer you straight, i can say one thing :
Close your eyes and jump in. SAP is like an ocean until and unless you swim and land to the bottom of it you will not be able to see how beautiful it is. In one sentence, grab this opportunity without any second thought.
Following points will be helpful for you to understand why:
    1. SAP BI has pretty good involvement  of  ABAP  for customization to be carried out and as you already have been to ABAP  learning BI and customizing situation according to business needs will be easy  if you have this niche skill
    2. SAP BI with ABAP is one of the most demanding module if you go through the job market. Once you gain experience and keep on learning  there will be no stopping.
    Now answer to your questions:
    Snehal patil wrote:
M really confuse whether should i take this project or not . whats the scope of BI ? is it in demand ? how about Abap + BI ?. will HANA replace Abap in BI or BI (not sure still numerous doubt in mind). need valuable advice.
    Ans: First question is answered.
Scope of BI if you read the whole discussion, it has already been answered, i hope it will be              enough to answer your second question. please go through above replies.
3rd question has also been explained see above point 1 and 2.
    Snehal patil wrote:
will HANA replace Abap in BI or BI (not sure still numerous doubt in mind). need valuable advice.
Ans:  No is the direct answer. HANA is database to make BW and BO run faster on it as because of the in memory concepts. But its not meant to replace BW.
Once again, please dont think anything much, you are on correct track, just jump in without second thought.
I hope these info helps you a bit.
    Regards....
