Implementing Authorization Programatically - Best practise

Hi,
Where is the best place (AppModule, Entity Object, View Object) for implementing authorization programatically?
Of course, we use JAAS (more specially JAZN) for Authentication.
Thanks,
Trung

Trung,
if you are on JDeveloper 10g then Entity Objects are supporting permission based authentication.

  • ECC 6.0 upgrade to  Best practise for chemical industry implementation

    Dear All.,
Please tell me what all the  EHP3 must be updated in the SAP erp ecc 6.0. I have already updated
    SAP_APPL 60304.
Tell me what is the next Ehp3 required before i start best practise in saint.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Manju

    Dear sir.,
I have  installed SAP ECC 6.0 for a chemical industry, now am planning to implement Best practise to reduce implementation time.
    1) As per the SAP Quick quide i have downloaded best practise for chemical industry(IS) and implemented through SAINT,  and the prerequisites were maintained as per the SAP notes 774615,1301301,1064635,
2)The above mentioned notes explains minimum stack11 and sapka=18,sapkb=18,sapbw=20,PI_Basis-2005_1_700=20 and sap_ap=15 to update Ehp3 for SAP_APPL603.
    3) After updating all the above mentioned patch level i implemented the Best practise in saint and that was successful.
But still  the problem persist in activation of BP by tcode /n/smb/bbi only 70% has been completed and activation stoped with *ABAP program error ASSIGNSUBSTRING_NOT_ALLOWED and relevent note is 1295083*_
Please  any one tell me, is that required to update all the EHP3 components since i have maintained only SAP_APPL60304.
What all Ehp3 components should be updated to get a smooth activation og BP for chemical industry.

  • Any best practise to archive PO's which does not have corresponding invoice

    Hello,
As part of initial implementation and conversion, We have a lot of PO's / LTA created but their corresponding invoices were never converted into SAP from legacy system.  SAP archiving program tags those as not business complete as the invoice qty does not match with po qty (there are no invoices to start with).  Just flagging 'delivery complete and final confirmation' of PO does not help.  Anybody ran into similar situation and how did they resolve it?  I am reluctant to enhance standard SAP archiving program to bypass those checks and that is my only last option. Any SAP recommended Note / best practise etc would help.
    Satyajit Deb

    Where is the invoice posted?
was the invoice posted in the legacy system?
Clearance of GR/IR account with MR11 will usually close such POs.

  • Best practise in SAP BW master data management and transport

    Hi sap bw gurus,
I like to know what is the best practise in sap bw master data transport. For example, if I updated my attributes in development, what are the 'required only' bw objects should I transport?
    Appreciate advice.
    Thank you,
    Eric

    Hi Vishnu,
Thanks for the reply but that answer may be suitable if I'm implementing a new BW system. What I'm looking for is more on daily operational maintenance and transport (a BW systems that has gone live awhile).

  • Experiences on SAP Best Practise packages?

We are considering applying a specific SAP Best Practise package on top of ECC6. It will be a new ECC6 installation.
I have read the BP faq pages http://help.sap.com/bp_bw370/html/faq.htm and read note 1225909 - How to apply SAP Best Practices - and the specific note and the specific installation guide for required Best Practise package.
I understand that applying a BP package is something not that easy but should speed up the implementation process.
If you have been participating in a project that implemented SAP Best Practises on ERP, would you please share your experiences with me.
Here are some topics for discussion:
    (BP=SAP Best Practise package)
BP implementation could make constraints to your future EHP or SP upgrades, while BP is tightly linked to certain EHP and SP-level?
    SAP support?
Installation process including config steps according BP installation guide is longer than usual, while there can be multiple activation and configuration steps done by others than basis consultants?
BPs are country dependent. What if your application is used multinationally?
What if you later find BP unneccessary?
generate difficulties in the beginning but did considerably speed up reaching the final goal compared to ECC6 without BP.
    traps to fall in?
typical issues that basis staff has to notify when preparing/installing a ERP system to be with BP?
    positive/negative things
I am not saying above statements are true or false. Just wanted to charge you giving comments.

    Hi,
Make sure your web service URL correct in Live Office connection and also in Xcelsius data manager.
Did you check all connection in refresh button proprties? you may try selecting "Refresh after component are Loaded" in Refresh button properties Behavior tab.
I think Xcelsius refresh are serial refresh so it may be possible that first component refresh is still in progress but you are expecting other component to refresh.
Click on "Enable Load Cursor" in data manager's Usage tab, it will give you visibility of refresh. If anything refreshing you will see hour glass.
    Cheers

  • ECC 5.0 and BO without BW/BI Integration Best Practise

    Hi,
I know that SAP can connect with BO system using RapidMart (replacing data warehouse BW/BI). Is this best practise?Because when i see the BI Platform RoadMap,I conclude that BI and BO will be integrate into one product, and i'm afraid to invest right now because in the future it seems we need to implement the BW system to make this BI system optimal.
My company want to use BO without implement BW system right now. SAP system that we use right now is ECC 5.0 and my company only upgrade it to next version when version 5.0 not supported again.Thank you.
    Cheers,
    Satria

    Hi Satria,
the answer depends a little bit on what the requirement is.
RapidMarts are an option to implement a data mart solution on top of an ERP solution. On top of the Rapid Marts you can then use the BusinessObjects tools without hitting the OLTP system directly.

  • Configure "best practise baseline" manually

    Dear experts!
I'm studying SAP ERP as a student. I am interesting in SD. I have read the certification material TSCM and SCM.
Now I am waiting for your advice whether I need to configure "best practise baseline" manually.
We see, it will take a lot of time to configure "best practise baseline" manually.
However, I was thinking that it would be helpfull to my general view on ERP, as well as, I can use it to study "best practise industry" when I complete it.
    How do you think?
    Waiting for your advice!
    Thank you!
    Best regard!
    Tang Dark

    Hi,
Best Practises is a specific SAP solution and to get it you have to specifically buy it - it doesn't come standard with every ERP solution.
What is Best Practises? Best Practises is basically a set of pre configured stuff (BC sets) which you upload into SAP, hence reducing your configuration.
Baseline is basically the general configuration (per module) that a company requires to carry on with config. Things like org structure, etc.
On top of the baseline you can then start loading other more specific BC sets per module.
Best Practises is a methodology to address smaller companies because it reduces the blueprint and configuration phases. Projects can be finalised within 6 months compared to std ERP implementations that may take 1 to 2 years.
If you want to be a proper SD consultant do not study Best Practises only. Do your SAP academy. Best Practises you can learn after you know SAP.
As to Industries specific, these are add-ons to address specific industry requirements. For example, bills of services, is something used in project environments such as engineering & construction. So the funcitonality is not necessary, for example, the retail industry which sells only finished products.
Again, firs learn your SAP and then you can focus on learning others. If you learn SAP you can work on any Best Practices package or any Industry, If you study Best PRactises you can only work with BP, and the same goes for industry solutions.

  • Best practise for SAP users who leave the company

    Hi
Could anyone reccommend a best practise document or give advice on how to deal with SAP user ID's when employee's/contractors/consultants leave? I am the basis admin just starting an SAP implementation and we have no dedicated authorisation team at the moment, so I have been asked to look into this :
Currently we set the validity date in SU01 to the termination date.
We chack there are no background jobs scheduled under that user id, if there are, we change the job owner to a valid user (we try to run all background jobs under an admin account).
We do not delete the user as from an audit point of view I believe it restricts information you can report on and there are implications on change documents etc, so best to lock it with validity dates.
    Can anyone advise further?
We are running SAP ECC 5.0 on Windows 2003 64 Bit/MS SQL 2000.
    Thanks for any help.

    Hi,
Different people will tell you different versions of what they believe is best practice, but in my opinion you are already doing reasonably well.
    What I prefer is
    1. Lock ID & set validity date.
    2. Assign user to user group LEAVER or EXPIRED or something similar (helps with reporting) out of SUIM/S_BCE* reports.
    3. Delete role assignment (should you need it, the role assignment will be in the change history docs anyway).
    4. Check background jobs & act accordingly.
For ease of getting info I prefer not to delete the ID though plenty of people do.

  • Best practise to versioning Web Service WCF

I've a web service SOAP developed with WCF, there is a best practise to versioning it? when I change the contract I don't want to update all the client's referiments but I want simply publish a new version that coexists with the old.
STUDY-CASE: I've a web service with one endpoint, all clients point to it, soon I will have to change the contract and I search a way to avoid that all clients crash. I know two ways to avoid this:
publish the web service with the new contract in another server
create a new file svc with the new contract
    there are other ways?

It depends on many things such as what changes you are going to make, what platform your clients are built on, what's your change tracking policy, etc.
For example if you just want to add a new property to a data contract or a new operation to a service contract it's safe to add it to your current implementation as long as the clients are version tolerant (DataContractSerializer is version tolerant) and it
complies with your change tracking policy. However you would better stick to strict versioning strategy which requires creating a new contract and exposing it with a new endpoint in case the changes are more serious.
    I suggested reading these articles:
    Versioning Strategies
    Best Practices: Data Contract Versioning
This should help you to choose the right version strategy and provide your with the best practices to follow.

  • Best practise BW Query design for Crystal Reports integration

    Hi all,
I am looking for a guide on best practices when designing a BW Query to be used as data foundation for a Crystal Report.
The scenario is that I am responsible for developing the Crystal Reports part, but not the BW Query part, therefore I would like to provide a list of best practises to the person who is responsible for the Query, this way make sure that the integration will work as good as possible. The setup is of course using BO Integration Kit for SAP.
An example is how to use authorization variables in the query to provide data security. This is just one example, there are problably a number of other things to be aware of. A document containing suggestions for best practices is what I am looking for, or if the document does not exist, input to what should be on such a list.
    Thank you in advance.
    Regards,
    Rasmus

    Hi Rasmus,
in regards to the Best Practices for Crystal Reports you can leverage all the knowledge you have on the Query Design today already. if you not the person for designing the query I think it is important to make sure people designing the queries do understand how Crystal Reports is leveraging the elements from the BI Query.
    /people/ingo.hilgefort/blog/2008/02/19/businessobjects-and-sap-part-2
You should try to put as much as possible into the BI query from the logic point of view.
and you can also build common BI queries - there is no need to build a BI query for each report.

  • Best practise - Domain model design

    Hello forum,
we're writing an application divided into three sub projects where one of the sub projects will be realized using J2EE and the other two sub projects are stand alone fat client applications realized using Swing. So that's the background...
    And now the questions:
After doing some research on J2EE best practise topics I found the TransferObject-Pattern (http://java.sun.com/blueprints/corej2eepatterns/Patterns/TransferObject.html) which we certainly want to apply to the J2EE sub project and to one of the standalone client applications also. To avoid code duplications I like the "Entity Inherits Transfer Object Strategy" approach outlined in the document referenced above. But why does the entity bean inherit from the transfer object class and not vice versa? In my opinion the tranfer object adds additional functionality (coarse grained getData()-method) to the class and isn't it a design goal in OO languages that the class that extends a base class has more functionality than the base class?
For the standalone application we want to use a similar approach and the first idea is to desgin the entitys and let the TO classes extend these entitys.
When I get it right the basic idea behind all of these design schemes is the "Proxy pattern" but when I design it using the previously mentioned way (Entity <-- EntityTO) I will have a very mighty prox beeing able to execute all operations the base class is able to execute.
    Any tips and comments welcome!
    Thanks in advance!
    Henning

    Hello Kaj,
at first - thanks for your fast response and sorry for coming back to this topic so late.
After reading a bit more on patterns in general what about avoiding inheritance
completely and using the proxy pattern instead (As explained eg.
http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-02-2002/jw-0222-designpatterns.html here) - so moving the design to a "has a" relationship rather than an "is a" relationship.
In the previous post you said that the client shouldn't be aware that there are entity beans and therefore the mentioned implementation was chosen - But if I implement it vice versa (Entity is base class, TO extends entity) and do not expose any of the methods of the entity bean I would achieve the same effect, or not? Clients are only able to work with the TOs.
I have some headaches implementing it in SUN's recommended way because of the Serialization support necessary within the TOs. Implemented in SUN's way the Entity bean would also have serialization support which isn't necessary because they're persisted using Hibernate.
    Thanks in advance
    Henning

  • GRC 5.3 | ERM | Best Practise Role Transport

    Hi Experts,
can someone tell me the best practise to transport roles from DEV to PRD using ERM?
    Thx!

    Hi All,
As Alpesh mentioned this is possible but not recommended and he is right.
But it is an work arround and which is very long process.
    1) Search the role in ERM
    2) Select the role and click on copy button
    3) In Copy Role screen you can see original From Role(eg, Z:TEST) and From Landscape(eg. QA system)
    4) And you can see To role and To Landscape. Here you have to choose your production system.
Along with this you can tick:Detailed Description,Functional Area,Approvers,Custom Attributes,
       Attachments and Authorizations.
Then click on copy button. Your role will be saved with your prod server name and you have to do the whole process of role generation for this role.
    Thanks,
    Sudip

  • Best Practises with ACS Replication & external databases

I am looking for a best practise with the following scenario:
2 ACS Servers in 2 separate locations, each providing mutual backup to each other - i.e. all devices/users in Site X point to local ACS Server X 1st and remote ACS Server Y 2nd. In Site Y the devices/users point to the local ACS Server Y 1st and remote ACS Server X 2nd. This works fine; currently Server X replicates the Database to Server Y.
In the future we will be implementing a remote LDAP database and will forward unknown users to this database for authentication. As I understand it if an unknown user exists on the LDAP database then the ACS Server will create a local account (depending the mapping policy etc) and point the password at the remote LDAP server. If we replicate from Server X to Server Y, but Server Y has created an account for an unknown user will this get deleted on replication? Is there a best practise to handle this scenario?
    Andy

I could not find a best practices document as such but a lot of ground is covered in the document 'CiscoSecure Database Replication' at http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/access/acs_soft/csacs4nt/acs33/user/sad.htm#wp755988.
