Import adresses thru network?

i want to import addresses from my Addressbook on my powerbook to my new macbook. They r connected thru a small network in my home. When i connect from the macbook to the powerbook i do not see my Adressbook, nor my Applications folder . So i am at a loss as to whether what i want is possible at all and if so how. Please advice. Thx
Brick

Hi Brick.
I haven't done this process in a long while…
if you want the address from your powerbook on your macbook
on your powerbook:
1) open addressbook
2) File> Back Up Address Book…
3) choose a file name and loction (anyname, anywhere should do)
then copy via whatever means (network file transfer, usb thumb drive, email, etc.) to the macbook.
and on your macbook:
4) open addressbook
5) File> Revert To Address Book Backup…
6) point to the file on the macBook
7) voila! (hopefully)
DKR
PS: don't you just love mac simplicity ?

The ip-adress cannot be the same as your laptop. You have to make sure that your ip-adress is unique in the network. if your ip is 192.168.1.100 try 192.168.1.112 or somthing. More advanced is to check avalible adress in your router.

  • Import adresses to Pages from Numbers

    Hi.
I have Pages 5.1 and Numbers 3.1. Can anybody tell me if it's possible to import adresses from a Numbers documet to a Pages document. I have a letter I want to send out to a lot of people. But I don't want to type the name and adress into every letter. I have all the names and adresses in an Numebers document. I don't have the name and adressen in my adressbook, and I don't want to import them to my adressbokk.

Good luck getting that to work with Pages 5!
But wasn't that the point of wonderfully diminishing the functionality of Pages 5? You are complicating it all over again by looking for more software to do the same job. How many more applications are you going to need as you hit each absent function?

  • How can I import adresses from my Contacts?

After Updating to Yosemite and the latest Pages Version (5.5.2) I can't import an adress into my predifined placeholders via drag&drop from my contacts.
Is there any workaround or do I have to redefine my placeholders?
Or is this a feature, Apple has removed?
    Best regards,
    Stefan

The new version of Pages doesn't support Mail Merge anymore.
Use the old version. It should be in an iWork folder in Applications.
Or, you might try this AppleScript application: https://iworkautomation.com/pages/script-tags-data-merge.html
It likely won't replace the drag and drop feature, though.

HI! Can anyone please help me on how to be able to connect my HP 2700 printer to my Mac G4 thru wireless network?
Thanks in advance for your kind assistance

Not all printers support network printing, make sure the drivers for the drive are installed on your machine, and the machine its attached to is on.

  • Import Maxl from network file error

    Hi all!
Im trying to make a Maxl import statement, using files which are inside another computer within the local network.
he issue im having is that EAS fails to open the file, which i do have access using the file system.
    My script is:
import database 'CpResIvr'.'ResIvr' data from local text data_file '\\compName\export-essbase\CPResIvr.txt' on error write to
    'c:\ExportErrors\CPResIvr.err';
    I also tried using 'file://compName\export-essbase\CPResIvr.txt'.
The error i get in either case is 1090004 (Unable to Open file).
Any help on how do i provide the path to the file will be appretiated,
    Thanks in advance!

The import database is using the Essbase server's drive/folder/volume access, not your client's.
You're going to need to map that drive on the Essbase server side first.
There was a thread on this subject in the past one or two weeks -- search for it and all (well, all regarding the topic of mapping drives) will be revealed.

  • IMovie temporary files; importing fails on network home directory

    Hi all,
I work in a laboratory and manage a bunch of Macs. We have a 2x2.5GHZ G5 with 4G of memory and iMovie 6. The mac has two 300 GB disks that are in a concatenated raid group, so the system has about 450GB of free disk.
The mac is bound to an Open Directory server and users have network home directories. (The network file system happens to be AFS, which is probably unusual)
The problem I am having is that whenever I am importing a clip from any external source (in this case I have tried a Sony GL-2 and an external DV deck), after about 13 minutes of importing, imovie stops importing, and iMovie displays the blue screen that you get when a video source is connected but not playing... but, the camera is clearly still playing, if I look in the viewfinder. this failure mode is completely reproducible, and always fails at the exact same place. (but works fine on another mac, see below)
I have tried saving the iMovie project onto both local disk and into the networked home directory, with the same results in either case.
I've tried the same setup on an identical mac that is not using networked home directories (local only), which works fine. I suspect that the problem has to do with the way the network file system caches/buffers, but I have no idea where iMovie keeps its housekeeping/temporary files. I was under the impression that it is all kept in the project directory, wherever you happen to create it. Are there some files that get written to the home directory no matter where you save the project?

iMovie doesn't have temporary files. All files are kept in the project folder (or "package").

  • Import Data over network link in oracle 11g

We want to take export of the OND schema in production database and
import it to the OND schema in UAT database over a network
link by using data pump,in Oracle 11g.Kindly share the steps.

    Scenario:
Directly importing the TEST01 schema in the production database (oraodrmu) to test database oraodrmt, over
a network by using database link and data pump in Oracle 11g.
Note: When you perform an import over a database link, the import source is a database, not a dump file set, and the data is imported to the connected database instance.
Because the link can identify a remotely networked database, the terms database link and network link are used interchangeably.

  • Import BR thru LCM issue.

    Hello,
I have a question reg lcm migration. Working on 11.1.2.2.300.6001
I have imported a BR (Existing BR replaced with some changes)  thru lcm using Utility.sh.
In SS ( SS->Planning->App->plan type -> Calc Manager Rules) shows that particular BR got imported successfully. But when i log into workspace->calc manager i don't see that this BR is updated. I see that we have to deploy the rule from calc manager from workspace.  But this deploy is modifying the currently updated BR in SS->Planning->App->plan type -> Calc Manager Rules..
I am not sure how to handle this? Was the import only imported BR into planning repository not calc manager repository? How does this stuff works? Need your inputs.
    Thanks,
    SD

As you observed, Calc Manager has it's own repository (just like how HBR had its own). So when you perform LCM for Planning, the rules are coming from Planning repository. These are the rules that were deployed from Calc Manager. (which means Planning copied the rules from Calc Manager repository to the Application repository).
Now for you to have both systems in sync, you'll have to update them at both places. If you think that the Planning rules are the recent ones that you want to keep, then
    1. Copy paste the contents into Calc Manager rules.
or trick the system by performing an LCM for Calc Manager and replace the xmls using the ones that came from Planning. do take a back up of both (planning and calc manager rules).

  • Stream audio from sound card input thru network

    Good Day:
I have an application where I need to access instruments at a remote location.  Command/Control of the instruments is not a problem, but I also need to stream the audio present at the remote system's sound card thru the network connection.  Any suggestions on how to accomplish this via LabWindows?
Thanks in advance for any replies.
    -Ed

    Hi Ed,
First, I was wondering, how do you get the audio from the sound card?  Is it from a LabWindows program? I've never done that.  Second, I was wondering how do you play the audio on the remote machine?  Is that through a LabWindows program?  I've never done that either.
But I was wondering if just a remote PC app would do the job.  Like admins use to take over your PC from there desk and fix problems.  I assume they have these that send the audio thru the net as well as the screen.  Then on the radio's PC you just need a LabWindows program to control the radio and some other app to play sound from the sound card input to the local speaker.  Then the remote PC app would magically transfer the screen and audio from the radio PC to the remote PC.
Otherwise, I can just say that to stream the audio thru the net, after the Radio's PC gets it off the sound card somehow, I would just set up two TCP servers on the remote PC, one for audio and one for the commands/control.  When the remote PC client connects to the audio server the audio server would just start sending audio data to the client.  The client would receive the data and put it in a big buffer to handle network speed variation.  Let the buffer fill up to like a second or more worth of data before having anothe function/thread read the buffer data and give the data to the client PC's sound card.  Big problem is that the client PC's sound card will alway's consume the data at a slightly different speed than the servers sound card produces it.  Different clocks running at slightly different frequencies.  So the client function that reads the audio buffer to give it to the sound card must play games.  If the buffer is shrinking over time then it has to create extra samples to give to the sound card, just duplicating a sample every 100 samples or whatever. If the buffer is growing over time then it throws away a sample every 100 sample or whatever.  So it's kind of a challenge to manage the buffer with the variable speed of the net transfering data and the two different rates of producing and consuming the audio data.
LabWindows has the TCP server create and client create functions so that's pretty easy.  The harder part is that you probibly want to set the Radio's PC to a fixed IP address so that you can connect to it without worrying about domain names and such.  Then the two TCP ports that the LabWindows uses for command and audio might need to be setup in all the routers to let you establish a connection.  Your IT guy's can answer that.
PS. you can play around with this suff on one PC by using the RegisterTCPServerEx function and setting the local host address to "localhost", or "127.0.0.1" on one LabWindows project and using the corresponding ConnectToTCpServerEx with "NULL" as the server host name on another LabWindows project.  This creates a virtual TCP connection on the same machine.  This does not duplicate the different audio clock issue I talked about above.

  • Import Adress Book mobiles into Bento - Problem

Hi I was trying to organize myself by importing some stuff to Bento. The problem I had was that some contacts have several phone numers (work home mobile) and Bento imported work and home. So i tried to create Mobile Phone as a field but the only thing Bento does is to create an empty column, it does not import anything from the mobiles that I have in my adress Book.
Thank you very much for your help and sorry for my english

    David,
This was posted in MacFixIt and it works perfectly:
    Entourage addresses into Address Book:
    1. Create a new desktop folder. Name it anything you want, but v-card would be appropriate, because that's what you will be creating.
    2. Open Entourage's Addresses and select the ones that you want to bring over.
    3. Drag these addresses into the v-card folder.
    4. Drag the v-card folder into the Name field of Apple's Address Book. You can safely trash the folder after you are finished.
    Apple addresses to Entourage:
    1. In Apple's Address Book, select the addresses that you want to export to Entourage.
    2. Open Entourage Address Book and drag those addresses into Entourage Address Book. If you are exporting multiple addresses, hold Option while you do this, otherwise only the topmost address will be exported and you'll have to do it one-by-one.
These methods are not perfect. You may find some minor errors, such as a Home email coming across as Work, but otherwise you'll get everything.

  • Unicode import process thru sapinst

    Hi  All,
We are in process of CU&UC from 4.7->ECC 6.0, we have sucessfully upgraded to ECC 6.0  and in process of Unicode conversion process.
    1) We are exporting the DB  now  thru sapinst  , we had not found code page parameter for target system in General paramter and  we got to know that during import  we have to select target system as unicode is it ok.
    2) During Import process we have to select CI and DB instance also or only CI is enough... Please suggest.....
    Thanks,
    Subhash

    Hi Subhash,
During the installation of NW04, you start installing central instance and then Database instance. For NW04s, if you install the central instance and the database instance is installed together in the sapinst.
These two are always hand in hand.
    Regards,
    Jeff

  • Slow file opening thru network

    Hi,
I've just bought a MacBook Pro 13 (may 2010) running Snow Leopard 10.6.3.
At the office we have a NAS (Network Attached Storage) for file sharing (files with 300Mb).
The connection with the server goes normaly and the navigation thru folders is also normal. However, opening files extremally slow (10 to 15 minutes to open a single 18Mb PowerPoint presentation).
If the same file is local, it opens very fast. Tried using wireless and cable, the last one is a little bit fast, but not much.
    Does anybody knows a solution?
    Thanks.

One reason this can happen is because in Folder mode OSX creates a preview of the file. To do that, it must transfer the entire file to the OSX machine before it starts to draw the preview. If you are also transferring the file to open it, you have two simultaneous transfers going on which compete for bandwidth and crosstalk. You can prevent this by browsing non-OSX filesystems with the file preview disabled. Note that this is NOT a problem with OSX fileservers since OSX keeps a custom preview icon for fast network browsing.
