Import Data to MDM

Hi All,
I have 2 question regarding Key Mapping, while importing data via Data Manager. We are using SAP MDM 7.1 SP04 (117)
1. Load data to a Lookup table, from 2 different source system.  I have an Lookup table, to which i will have to load data from 2 different systems say A, B
and both A and B has a different Key, which i will have to store in the Remote Key.
How to Import this data
Remote System Remote Key Name Code
1. A 1 AAA A1
2. B 2 AAA A1
In the above example, same code and Name has 2 different Remote system and remote key... how to load this data to MDM using Import Manager
2. Load data to Main table for lookup fields. I have a set of lookup tables, for which the data are loaded from system A and say remote Key 1.
But, the data to the main table comes from System B, so the data for these lookup fields are not getting mapped automatically, as it doesnot find the remote system in that lookup. How to load the data, to these fields in the lookup, automatically, without doing a manual value mapping.
Thanks,
Priya.

Hi Priya,
If these Systems A and B are SAP systems, then you should go for MDMGX T-code, for reference data (look-up data) into MDM. Importing look-up data from SAP systems using MDMGX is the Recommended/Standard way. You will then import this reference (look-up data) from both of these systems using Remote Key Concept and you will not face this difficulty. Here you will not face any issue, look-up values get automatically mapped whether Main table data comes from System A or System B.
If you have Source file with four fields as given below:
Remote System Remote Key Name Code
1. A 1 AAA A1
2. B 2 AAA A1
Then Segregate Records on the basis of Remote systems with two files, one file which will contain records pertaining to Remote System A only and other file contains records with Remote System B only.
Now, Import the data using import manager remote system for these two files separately for Remote System A and Remote System B using Remote Key concept. Once you Import data in this way, you will see both these Remote Systems with key (I mean two values) in Edit Key mapping when you right click on any record of this look up flat table using MDM Data Manager.
Here you will see Remote system B with Key 2 also.
Other alternative, You can also add these Remote key values for System B manually using MDM Data Manager Edit Key mapping. But it will take time to add value for each of records for this look-up flat table for Remote System B.
Your problem for importing main table records from Remote System B will be resolved because now these look-up values get automatically mapped as remote key for both systems maintained into look-up tables.

  • Importing Data into MDM

    Hi SDNers,
I am facing a Problem. In my repository I have a filed called Date of Birth.
while importing data into MDM if the input file is having data as 00000000 fro Data of Birth MDM accepts this date. If Date of Birth is 00000000 the data should not save in the record.
I Need to write a Validation for this or what I want to do.
    Any suggestions.
    Thanks
    Ravi

    Hi Ravi,
Even if your source file has the date in any format, while performing the import it will give you an error saying "Failed to convert date values".
You need to convert this date in the required format, default being mm/dd/yyyy.
To change the default setting go to the configuration option in Import Manager, you will find the date format option.
You can select the required formats like  yyyymmdd or dd.mm.yyyy.
Note that this value conversions are necessary only if you have defined your field of date type.
If you have defined it as text, it will accept the date in any format.
    Hope it helps.
    Thanks,

  • Order to import data in to SAP MDM using import manager

    HI All,
Is this the order to import data in to SAP MDM?
    Import look up tables
    Import Hierarchy Tables
    Import Taxonomy Tables -
    Non -Qualifiers
Then import main table----map Qualifers along with Mian table and import...
Can we import entire taxonomy tables (Qualifiers, Non-Qualifers) along with main table after importing look up tables?
    Thanks
    Rajeev

    Hi Rajeev
The sequence mentioned by you is correct for importing data in MDM- flat lookup, hierarchy first followed by Main table.
Can we import entire taxonomy tables (Qualifiers, Non-Qualifers) along with main table after importing look up tables?
I am assuming that you are implying Qualified table here.
Import to qualified tables can be done in 2 ways-
    1. Import separately using the unique field for the main table for linkages to the main table records.
    2. Import can be clubbed with the main table import itself. In the import map we can use Join functionality to do a lookup based on the unique field for the main table.
For more details on the mechanism please go through the threads below-

  • How to import Hierarchy Data in MDM 7.1

    Hi All,
I am trying to import the hierarchy data to SAP MDM 7.1
I have the data in the Excel sheet in the following structure
Parent Code   Parent Name   Child Code   Child Name
    A1                  Printer              P1               Inkjet
    A1                  Printer              P2               Canon
    P1                   inkjet                Q1               Model - XXX
    P2                   Canon              Q2              Model - YYY
In MDM i have 2 fields in the hierarchy table Code and Name as display fields.
I tried to do partition of fields, combine fields as per the Import documentation. But i was not able to import the hierarchy.
I have also seen some papers on SDN for Hierarchy import, but none of them talk about 2 display fields in the hierarchy table.
Can anyone help me to import the data to MDM.
    Thanks,
    Priya.

    Hi Priya.
You have three level hierarchy in your example
        A1    !     Printer
             P1   !    inkjet
                Q1   !    Model - XXX
Parent Code ! Parent Name  ! Child Code ! Child Name
    in your import manager
    select "Partition Field/value" Tab
In source partition window select  your "Parent code" filed
    press add
    select  your "Parent name" filed
    press add
in window "Partition by:" select "Parent name" and "Parent code"  fields  and press "Combine" button
for next fields you sould repeat previous steps
    then  select "Map Fields/values"
find  in Field mapping Source field:  "Parent code [Partition]"
    map it to "Code"
    in "Values conversion mapping" window
select all walues and press "Add" button then Add as Child

  • Transfer the data from MDM to SAP R/3

    Hi,
I have to transfer the material master data from MDM to R/3.I have syndicated the data and put the file in the .xsd format in the ready folder of the repository. Now I have to transfer this file to R/3 , one way is through XI(XI will pick the file from the current location and an IDOC from there will pass this data to R/3. The other way I was thinking a UNIX script can do it. The UNIX script will run and pick the data from ready folder and pass it to R/3.If somebody of you has done similar thing kindly reply.
    Regards,
    Ashutosh

The best method of integrating MDM with R/3 is to use XI (PI).  There are a couple of reasons for this, but most importantly you can use the IDoc adapter to turn your XML message into an IDoc and send it to R/3.  This has a lot of advantages because IDocs are very easy to monitor, troubleshoot, and reprocess in the event of an error.  IDocs are definitely the preferred method of integration with R/3, therefore using PI is a very good idea.  A few years back I wrote a blog about how to configure XI for an interface between MDM and R/3, perhaps it will help you:
    /people/harrison.holland5/blog/2006/12/20/xi-configuration-for-mdm-integration--sample-scenario
While it is possible to use a batch script, it's not recommended.  You would still have to write a load program (LSMW or some other type of load program) on the R/3 side.  Monitoring and troubleshooting is going to be more cumbersome, because you also have to monitor the message flow on the UNIX system.  If PI is serving as the middleware it does the end-to-end monitoring for you.

  • Import data from r3

    Hi,
    1) I want to import customer data from R3 system.
Note :- I am using repository created using sp3_customer.a2a archieve file in mdm
I created idoc to file scanario in xi and xml file imported in import manager. but,my problem is i am not able to map all the fields one to one. So, I imported
    00_DEBMDM05_R3.map ( thru file--> import),option.
I thought by doing this, mapping will happen automatically between xml and mdm data.but, not able to map automatically. What went wrong?
I heard there is some other solution to import data from r3 ( adding ports, client systems etc in mdm)
    Thanks

    Hi,
I have requriment to read data from MDM from FLAT and Lookup table using MDM ABAP API. My design  is like this ,
I have one ITEMS (Main table in MDM) and inside that i have one Lookup flat table ITEM_TYPE , my requriment is to read Item number and its related Item type.
    From ABAP.
Please help if any body has any idea.

    HI Guys,
I found my solution by myself. Below is the solution , hope this will help others:-
Retrieve data from MDM  using MDM ABAP API.
Step- 1. Create structure in SAP with the same name as that of MDM field code for MDM Main table.
Step-2. Create another structure in SAP having all  lookup fields of MDM , fieldname in ECC must be same as that of MDM field
    code.
Step-3.Create structure in SAP for  individual lookup field(Single Field only)   with the same name as MDM Field code.
    Step-4.

  • Illegal XML character exception in Importing data imprt manager

Did any one of you face Illegal XML character error while importing extracted data from ECC
I googled and found out XML parser does not like to find '<' '&' in the data , is that true? if so what was the work around ?? BTW we are getting DEBMDM customer data and import manager is bombing with these errors with every other file.
I know import server is a route , but any other solution?
    -Sudhir

    Hi Sudhir,
We had faced a similar situation when using extracted Material Master data from ECC.
We had some special characters in some of the fields like Material description such as (<,^,*,&,#@)etc.But these data were readily imported in MDM without much troubble. However there were some other fields which had error in the Date Formats and were not excepted by MDM
While automatically importing this data in MDM using the Import server the records failed throwing exceptions.
We then analysed the Source file carefully in Excel format by using Fillters  and identified these Wrong date charactes which were giving troubble.
We corrected the dates and had no futher issues for the special character text we imported them with Data type  Text Normalized and they passed corrrectly even with Data type as TEXT.
So I suggest that you analyses your data correctly in excel if required for better clearance and check for any futher in consisitencies in the dtaa for every field value.
    Hope It Helped,
    Thanks & Regards

  • Importing data with characterstics/Merchandise hierarchy in SAP IS Retail

    Hi All,
Im importing data into SAP IS Retail from MDM using ARTMAS04 message type using SAP XI. I have cetrain Merchandise hierarchy,Characterstics maintained in ECC as well as in MDM. The article category is "Generic Article". Im able to pass the valuse of characterstics and its values to ECC but idoc is not getting posted and gives an error msg" No Characterstics could be found for generic articles".
In a normal article creation in ECC using MM41 we have to create a variant for generic articles by passing characterstics and its values. How do i create a variant when im fetching data from MDM in XML format. Is there some setting required on ECC side.
Please let me know in case anyone has any clue.

  • Problems Importing INFREC01 into MDM

    Good Afternoon,
We are currently trying to import the purchasing info record IDoc 'INFREC01' into the MDM Import Manager.
However, we are having difficulties matching fields between the IDoc and the repository 'Products'.
Basically the problem is as follows:
We are trying to import the INFREC01 Idoc from SAP, via XI into MDM.
In the generated xml Idoc, there are two segments that we need to import data from:
E1EINAM : Purchasing Info Record: General Data
E1EINEM : Purchasing Info Record: Purchasing Organization Data
For some reason, the import manager brings in two segments:
    INFREC01
    E1EINEM
The data in INFREC01 contains the fields that we require from E1EINAM but for segment E1EINEM, there is no reference to the material, vendor or info record. Fields that could all be used to match records during import.
As a result, we are unable to perform the “Match Records” step in the import procedure for the segment E1EINEM i.e. match to the remote key.
We have a qualified look-up in the products repository, called "Vendor-Specific Data". When I try to import, I get the message : "Map 'Vendor-Specific Data' field to import qualifier(s)"
I would like to map the Vendor number to this field (as vendor is the non-qualifier in the look-up) but the vendor number is in the other IDoc segment (INFREC01).
How do we import the purchasing info record into MDM? Is there some way that I can clone or copy the vendor field from segment INFREC01 to E1EINEM? Or should I be using some other technique?
Thanks for any help you can offer!

    Hi Jonathan,
Answer to :How do we import the purchasing info record into MDM? is
You can choose between the following types of import:
    <u><b>a) Interactive Import</b></u>
You use the MDM Import Manager to map fields, values, and records manually before import. This method is recommended for initial loading if the Import Manager maps have to be adapted.
<u><b>b)Automated Import</b></u>You use the MDM Import Server to perform an automated import. This method is recommended for delta loading if the mapping is already complete.
I'd liek to share the process flow as well: (wrt BOM record)
    <u><b>Extraction from Remote System</b></u>
           1.      Log onto your remote system.
           2.      Extract BOM data records as IDoc (BOMMAT) to SAP XI.
Within SAP you can choose tools like ALE  Master Data Distribution  Logistics  Bill of Material Material BOM  BD30
<u><b>While for Interactive Import to MDM:(again wrt BOM)</b></u>
           1.      Start the MDM Import Manager to import the created BOMMAT XML files.
           2.      Connect to your MDM repository.
           3.      From the Type dropdown list choose Port.
The port serves as a central depot to collect relevant information for importing data from and exporting it to remote systems as well as for defining the file type.
Ports simplify the manual and automated handling of connection information by bundling attributes (for example direction of the data flow, XML schema, import folder, maps).
           4.      Select your remote system.
           5.      Select the inbound port _MDMBommat04 (client-specific).
Do not set the Read-only flag because segments are added for pivot transformations.
           6.      The Import Manager loads the map defined in the port.
Hope it will suffice to hint you,
    regards,
    Krutarth

  • Is it possible to import data based on filter condition?

    HI All,
Is it posisble to import data based on fillter condition? Suppose I have following data
    Name,City
    A,HYD
    B,HYD
    C,MUM
    D,DEL,
    E,DEL
    F,HYD
Now I want to import only records where city is HYD, is it possible through import manager?
    Thanks
    Rajeev

    Hi Rajeev,
You can filter records during import if one of the Matching field is of type Lookup.
In your case if you create City as flat lookup table in MDM & maintain lookup values in DM(Just as an example), then you can import only records where city is HYD.
Map Name & City, Then in Match Records tab select both the fields (Combination)
then right click on it & select Filter.. option.
Now new pop up will open where you be able to see ur Lookup table values, from there select HYD and Add
Now in default Import Action, set Create Action for None/None (All other will be skip)
This way you will import only HYD records.
But this is possible only on Lookup fields & not foe Text fields
    Hope this will help you
    Thanks & Regards,

  • How to import data from a text file into a table

    Hello,
I need help with importing data from a .csv file with comma delimiter into a table.
I've been struggling to figure out how to use the "Import from Files" wizard in Oracle 10g web-base Enterprise Manager.
I have not been able to find a simple instruction on how to use the Wizard.
I have looked at the Oracle Database Utilities - Overview of Oracle Data Pump and the Help on the "Import: Files" page.
Neither one gave me enough instruction to be able to do the import successfully.
Using the "Import from file" wizard, I created a Directory Object using the Create Directory Object button. I Copied the file from which i needed to import the data into the Operating System Directory i had defined in the Create Directory Object page. I chose "Entire files" for the Import type.
Step 1 of 4 is the "Import:Re-Mapping" page, I have no idea what i need to do on this page. All i know i am not tying to import data that was in one schema into a different schema and I am not importing data that was in one tablespace into a different tablespace and i am not R-Mapping datafiles either. I am importing data from a csv file.
For step 2 of 4, "Import:Options" page, I selected the same directory object i had created.
For step 3 of 4, I entered a job name and a description and selected Start Immediately option.
What i noticed going through the wizard, the wizard never asked into which table do i want to import the data.
I submitted the job and I got ORA-31619 invalid dump file error.
I was sure that the wizard was going to fail when it never asked me into which table do i want to import the data.
I tried to use the "imp" utility in command-line window.
After I entered (imp), i was prompted for the username and the password and then the buffer size as soon as i entered the min buffer size I got the following error and the import was terminated:
    C:\>imp

Please show me the easiest way to import a text file into a table. How complex could it be to do a simple import into a table using a text file?
We are testing our application against both an Oracle database and a MSSQLServer 2000 database.
I was able to import the data into a table in MSSQLServer database and I can say that anybody with no experience could easily do an export/import in MSSQLServer 2000.
I appreciate if someone could show me how to the import from a file into a table!
    Thanks,
    Mitra
