Got a dump of directory from 5.1 server. installed 5.2 on anew box. Tried importing ldif during install and after install. I can see it process the 130mb file, but can't sense any records are in place..
Importing from console gives loads of errors "error loading object 'dn: o=us.com object not found
Other times I got similar error sayng object already exists.
I do uninstall_dirserver and rm -Tf * from the target dir each time
    I'm over 10 install/uninstall so far
It feels like something wrong with my base dn, but I'm not sure how to fix it
This is for a new install from 5.1 to 5.2 on RedHat ES 3

  • Cannot import ldif file

    Hi,
I'm exporting a .ldif file from sun ds 5.2 to importing it to sun ds 6.3. I have to make some changes in the .ldif file after exporting it.
    in 5.2, dc=example,dc=com
in 6.3 dc=misc,dc=example,dc=com (adding dc=misc. can this be correct)
The following is the code. could you tell me what additions I have to make before importing it.
Also, is there any error in the following commands
    ./dsconf create-suffix -h localhost -p 8389 dc=misc,dc=example,dc=com
    ./dsconf import -h localhost -p 8389 /export/home/user/Example.ldif dc=misc,dc=example,dc=com
Example.ldif file is the exported file.

I exported ldif through softerra LDAP administrator. How do I export to ldif in sun ds 5.2 from the command line.
These are the commands I have used to import ldif file.
creating suffix, already created suffix, and overwritung it.
    ./dsconf create-suffix -h 1192.169.2.100 -p 8389 dc=misc,dc=example,dc=com
    Enter "cn=Directory Manager" password:
    "dc=misc,dc=example,dc=com": suffix already exists.
The "create-suffix" operation failed on "192.169.2.100:8389".
    ./dsconf import -h 192.169.2.100 -p 8389 /export/home/user/example.ldif dc=misc,dc=example,dc=com
    Enter "cn=Directory Manager" password:
New data will override existing data of the suffix "dc=misc,dc=example,dc=com".
Initialization will have to be performed on replicated suffixes.

  • Can't import LDIF format exported mail address to Address Book

New to iMac and trying full migration from PC
I have a LDIF format address file (exported from Comcast's Webmail in Netscape Communicatore LDIF format). Can't import the file to my new iMAC's Address Book.
Getting the following msg: No Cards Added. No importable cards were found.
It is a small file, there are records in the file- I opened the file with MS Notepad. I have opend the file with TextEdit as well and see the records in the file. Records have givenname:, sn:, mail:. xmozillanickname:, description:.
I've checked the FAQ, all support pages and there doesn't seem to be a solution.
    Is this ture?
    iMAc   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    I found a solution.
When I tried importing the mailboxes, I was selecting "Files in mbox format," because that's what they are, right? No. Apparently, I needed to select "Apple Mail" instead.
That imports everything under an Import folder, and then I can select the emails and drag them to the appropriate inboxes (after re-setting up the accounts).
Ugh, this is not easy. But I'm getting close.
(Oh, step 6 will be to clear off Time Capsule and start a new backup. But only after I'm convinced things are running right. Obviously, I will be looking at other options for catastrophic backup in the future.)
Another note: I first tried copying my entire user folder to my external drive. But after a few minutes of copying, that failed, saying that I didn't have permission to copy one or more files. It didn't tell me what it was, or ask whether to skip it. It just failed. So that's why I was left to selectively pick files.
Another lesson learned: Know your Time Capsule password. If you rely on Keychain for this, and your machine dies, you're going to have a hard time recovering (if it's possible).

  • Directory Server 6.2 upgrade to 6.3: import LDIF problem

    Hi all,
I have tried upgrading my Directory Server 6.2 to version 6.3 because of the database integrity issues as stated in:
    http://blogs.sun.com/dsee/entry/directory_server_6_2_database
I have followed the steps defined in this article:
    1. Shut down each directory server instance, as described in Starting, Stopping, and Restarting a Directory Server Instance.
    2. Perform an LDIF export of the database, as described in Backing Up to LDIF.
    3. Install the hotfix for bug 6642430 on Directory Server 6.2, or upgrade your Directory Server 6.2 instance to Directory Server 6.3 once Directory Server 6.3 is available for download (early April). You will need to login to Sunsolve in order to see this bug description.
But when importing the LDIF export, I got the following error:
[17/Dec/2008:14:44:08 +0100] - import ec: WARNING: Skipping entry "sunPortalAdminPortalDomainPortalServerInstanceMonitoringID=Monitoring,sunPortalAdminPortalDomainPortalServerInstanceID=sol10portal-80,sunPortalAdminPortalDomainPortalID=portal1,sunPortalAdminPortalDomainID=defaultDomain,o=example" whichIt's the only information I get about why the entry was skipped (I did not forget to copy the part after 'which', there was no information there :-))
This resulted in a missing Portal instance configuration and thus I got a 'configuration error' when surfing through the gateway to the portal.
I have also tried: manually importing that entry, which resulted in a 'Object does not exist' error. I have tried copying the whole tree from another backup with identical setup, which wasn't working either.
Did anyone experience the same problems before? Did I do something wrong or is there a workaround for this?
Second question: What is the exact reason why a export and import is necessary? Or is it only necessary if the database is already corrupt? Is there a way to check that?
    Thanks alot!
    Sten

The entry was not imported most likely because it's parent isn't in the database yet. Are entries above this in another backend ? If so try importing that backend first. Also, that dn is so long, that it exhausted the buffer which is used to write messages in the access log. This is why, there's nothing after "which".
What is the exact reason why a export and import is necessary? Or is it only necessary if
the database is already corrupt? Is there a way to check that? The database corruption could be silent. So a binary backup/restore when going from 6.2 to 6.3 is not recommended and the LDIF route must be used.

  • Import ldif warning of no parent

    Hi,
I'm newbie of Oracle directory server. When trying to import the ldif file to the oracle directory server 11.1.1.7.0 using the command:
    $ dsconf create-suffix -h localhost -p 4000 dc=hyperion,dc=com
    $ dsconf import -h localhost -p 4000 <path>/10000users.ldif dc=hyperion,dc=com
    It generate messages as:
New data will overide existing data of the suffix"dc=hyperion, dc=com"
Initialization will have to be performed on replicated suffixes
    And lots of warning as:
skipping entry "uid=user0000,ou=People,dc=hyperion, dc=com" which has no parent, ending at line xxx of file '10000users.ldif'
    The 1000users.ldif is as:
    dn: uid=user0000, ou=People, dc=hyperion, dc=com
    uid: user0000
    objectClass: top
    objectClass: person

Did I miss any steps or the LDIF file I got has some missings?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
I have created the 'top' entry for the suffix using the command:
    $ dsconf create-suffix -h localhost -p 4000 dc=hyperion,dc=com
I also create teh subsuffix using the command:
    $ dsconf create-suffix -h localhost -p 4000 ou=People,dc=hyperion,dc=com
    $ dsconf set-suffix-prop -h localhost -p 4000 ou=People,dc=hyperion,dc=com parent-suffix-dn:dc=hyperion,dc=com
    before running import:
    $ dsconf import -h localhost -p 4000 <path>/10000users.ldif dc=hyperion,dc=com
But it still not import the 10000user data:
"Import complete. Processed 10000 entries (10000 entries were skipped because they don't belong to this database) in 175 seconds"
    Thanks!

  • Importing LDIF file In DSEE 11.1.1.7.0

    Hi All,
I was trying to import Example.ldif file but some how its giving this error. What is the reason :-
    C:\sun-dsee7\dsee7\bin> dsconf import -h localhost -p 1389 C:\sun-dsee7\dsee7\resources\ldif\Example.ldif dc=example,dc=com
    Enter "cn=Directory Manager" password:
Unable to bind securely on "localhost:1389".
The "import" operation failed on "localhost:1389".
    C:\sun-dsee7\dsee7\bin>dsadm start C:\SUN
Directory Server instance 'C:/SUN' is already running (pid: 2700)

    Hi Ranjeet,
the error you get seems to be due to the fact that the dsconf command is trying to bind 'securely' to a 'clear' port; try with the following command using the -e option:
    C:\sun-dsee7\dsee7\bin> dsconf import -h localhost -p 1389 -e C:\sun-dsee7\dsee7\resources\ldif\Example.ldif dc=example,dc=com
    It should work.
For further reference, please check the dsconf --help, or the official product documentation manual page:

  • Import ldif error with warning 5022 can't modify task entry

    Hi Guys,
This is a new installation of ODSEE 11.1.1.7.0 (zip distribution) on a CentOS 5 server. When I put it on there I have to grab a few library by hand to get the commands going (glibc.i686, libstdc++.so.6, libz.so.1)
I created a instance and it started fine, but when I try to import the following ldif:
    dn: c=AU
    objectClass: top
    objectClass: country
    c: AU
    aci: (targetattr="*")(version 3.0; acl "OpenIDM user access"; allow (add,write) userdn="ldap:///cn=openidm user,ou=technical users,c=AU";)
    dn: ou=customers,c=AU
    objectClass: organizationalUnit
    objectClass: top
    ou: customers
    dn: ou=technical users,c=AU
    objectClass: organizationalUnit
    objectClass: top
    ou: technical users
    dn: cn=openidm user,ou=technical users,c=AU
    objectClass: person
    objectClass: organizationalPerson
    objectClass: top
    cn: openidm user
    sn: user
    userPassword: [password]
    I got error:
    - WARNING<5022> - Tasks - conn=-1 op=-1 msgId=-1 -  Can't modify task entry 'cn=import1379317679873,cn=import,cn=tasks,cn=config'
    - Import aborted: could not open LDIF file "example.ldif".
I am not sure this is a installation issue or a config issue.

    Hi,
the error message seems to be related to the fact that the Directory Server instance is not able to 'open/access' the specified LDIF file.
Which exactly is the command you used to initialize the Directory Server instance?
Did you specified the full path of the LDIF file?
Has the LDIF file the right permissions to be read/accessed by the user with which the Directory Server runs?
    HTH,

  • LDIF Importing a user with a non-encrypted password fails, anywork arounds?

I was able to import a group without issue:
    dn: cn=Authenticated,cn=Groups,dc=oraclelinux,dc=com
    description: test group
    objectClass: top
    objectClass: groupOfUniqueNames
    uniqueMember: cn=orcladmin,cn=People,dc=oraclelinux,dc=com
    cn: Authenticated
But when I try to import a standard user:
    dn: cn=testuser2,cn=Users, dc=oraclelinux, dc=com
    userpassword:: password1
    description: test user
    objectClass: top
    objectClass: person
    sn: testuser2
    cn: testuser2
It fails if I remove the password field then I can import the user without issue, but I need to include the password field as it is part of what was exported from the old LDAP Server.
If I create a user in an ldif import it then add a password using oracle's Directory Manager upon exporting it the entry loks like:
    dn: cn=testuser, cn=Users, dc=oraclelinux, dc=com
    authpassword;orclcommonpwd: {MD5}fGoYCzaJagqMAnh+6vsOTA==
    authpassword;orclcommonpwd: {X- ORCLLMV}E52CAC67419A9A2238F10713B629B565
    authpassword;orclcommonpwd: {X- ORCLNTV}5835048CE94AD0564E29A924A03510EF
    authpassword;oid: {SASL/MD5}tUquh+Duowh2aWSEwONtcQ==
    authpassword;oid: {SASL/MD5-DN}lcQ7Z5O5vcwzXMeaZ65fYw==
    authpassword;oid: {SASL/MD5-U}AAWzkmDDCJLbs9mxoWBTiw==
    userpassword:: e1NIQX00NHJTRkpROXF0SFdUQkF2cnNLZDVLL3AyajA9
    description: test user
    objectclass: top
    objectclass: person
    sn: testuser
    cn: testuser
Changing my imported ldif to look like the following WORKS:
    dn: cn=testuser2,cn=Users, dc=oraclelinux, dc=com
    userpassword:: e1NIQX00NHJTRkpROXF0SFdUQkF2cnNLZDVLL3AyajA9
    description: test user
    objectClass: top
    objectClass: person
    sn: testuser2
    cn: testuser2
So the password must be encrypted then?, if so how to I generate a password hash on the command-line and through JAVA?
Can an import be forced with a plain text password (Tivoli, SUN both support this functionality).
Can I change the constraint that the password must contain a numeric char? (Found in document: http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28196_01/idmanage.1014/b15991/pwdpolicies.htm#g1051713)
After fixing the constaints I can import a non-encrypted password from an ldif, but it can not be verified and only the authpassword;oid entries are created not the authpassword;orclcommonpwd entries.
    Thanks for your assistance,
    ERIC GANDT

Eric, my first guess would be that the OID password policy prevents loading of the password i.e. the password doesn't match the existing password policy.
What version is your "old" OID and what is the version of the current OID you're using?
What is the error msg you get?
    regards,

  • Importing an ldif address book?

    Hello All,
I am trying to see if 10.6 allows for importing .ldif address books. As far as I can tell this function has been removed.
In 10.5 I was able to do this using the import function which gave a person the choice of ldif, vcard, text file, or address book archive.
Does the option to import an ldif file live somewhere else? or is it totally removed?

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately its a lot of work addresses so it would be hard for me to single out which ones actually needed to be converted. At least if they had the 10.5 way of doing it I could just use the file and it would decide which were duplicates and I could decide to not import them.
Hmm if not a way to do that possible a step backwards for snow leopard. I hope that isn't the case.
Thanks for your help though V.K.

  • Anyone tried using LDIF file in the User Profile Synchronization Process?

Microsoft pushied an article recently talking about using LDIF file in the SharePoint's user profile synchronization.
Configure profile synchronization using a Lightweight Directory Interchange Format (LDIF) file (SharePoint Server 2010) http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff959234.aspx
Currently I am unable to obtain the required "Replicate Directory Change" permission set up by the AD admin.  So I thought of exploring this alternative since I still have AD search permission right now.
So far, I was able to set up the MOSSLDAP-LDIFMA, and use an import.ldif file to add, remove and update user profiles.  However, there are some problems that I can't resolve.  One of key problems is, the LDIF-imported records can't be
    sync'd with login-based records.
In my environment, when a user login SharePoint via Windows authentication, a new profile would be added, under the account name "domain\username".  Meanwhile, when an LDIF record imported, there will be another profile created under the account
name "domain:domain\username", or "domain:username".  That is, there would be two profiles for each user.
Based on my understanding, it is very likely the user profile synchronization is based on the user's account name.  But in document and sample files provided, I can't find out any clue how to prepare the ldif file so that it will update the
matching records, instead of creating new ones.
    Any help?  Thanks in advance.

Has anyone managed to get this to work?
It's nice that Microsoft offers the ability to import user profiles via LDIF into SharePoint, but it is useless if the account name is not correct after the import. I have tried multiple imports from the LDIF to get a user account to show up as  "domain\username" but
it always ends up as "domain:domain\username", or "domain:username".  or a variation
of these 2 with a colon separating the domain form the username. i see that multiple people have had the same problem, but unfortunetaly can't seem to find a solution. Also I see Bradley mentions that he was able to import accounts using get-QADUser,
but he doesnt mention what the accounts import as or if it resolved the domain colon issue.
Thanks in advance for any help or information anyone can provide.
    cheers,
    Zed

  • Importing contacts from Microsoft Office

I recently left a position and would like to add all of my Microsoft contacts onto my Macbook. However, the file is not recognized by my Mac. What is the best way to move .pst files over? Thank you.

Ok, may I suggest two paths
First path: from Outlook on your PC, select all your contacts then go to Action>forward as vcard. That I think will generate an email with all the incividual vcards attached. Just send that email to yourself and receive/open it on your mac, the drag and drop the vcards in Address Book.
Second path: download and install Thunderbird on your pc if you don't have it yet, then launch it and choose to import from outlook your address book contacts, just follow the instructions. Once imported in thunderbird, then choose to export, export as LDIF, name the file, then bring that file to your mac. Then in Address Book go to file>import>LDIF... and you should be done.
    hope this helps

  • How to use OUD as LDAP for single db user repository?

I have been assigned a project to add all the database users to OUD as a single repository for all our database users.  This would be similar to using Active Directory.  Could someone explain or point me in the right direction on how to add users and password (to include password policy) to OUD and then map them to global database schemas and/or roles?   I am a DBA and not familiar with OUD, but followed the instructions and got OUD up and running and have registered the databases with it.
Part 2 of my question is after registering the database with OUD, this database is a 2 node RAC and it only registered the database and not the associated instances and/or services.  How do you add those (instances and services) into OUD?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hello,
This is typically the EUS use case where OUD is used to store Enterprise Users and Roles + the associated mappings.
More about EUS support in OUD at Integrating With Oracle's Enterprise User Security - 11g Release 2 (11.1.2)
I guess you configured DB user location in the OUD directory when you configured EUS. See Integrating Oracle Unified Directory with Oracle Enterprise User Security - 11g Release 2 (11.1.2)
You can create users in LDAP using various means e.g.
ldapmodify (Adding, Modifying, and Deleting Directory Data - Oracle Fusion Middleware Administration Guide for Oracle Unified Direct…). Any user objectclass, including inetorgperson would fit
    import-ldif
any graphical tool including ODSM (Managing Data With Oracle Directory Services Manager - Oracle Fusion Middleware Administration Guide for Oracle Unified …)
To create roles and mappings, you can use the database console  or EUSM command line as described in https://blogs.oracle.com/sduloutr/entry/using_eusm_to_manage_eus
Regarding question #2, RAC instances are not individually registsred in EUS, the global RAC DB name only need to be registered.

    Note:
If, for some reason, you decide to delete the adapter and create a new one, use a different Adapter name and a different Database File name.
    *5.3 Adding Entries*
Create an entry in the local store as follows:
    *1.*
Using a text editor, create an LDIF file that looks like this:
    version: 1
    dn: dc=oracle,dc=com
    objectclass: top
    objectclass: domain
    dc: oracle
    *2.*
Access Oracle Directory Services Manager, as described in "Accessing Oracle Directory Services Manager".
    *3.*
    Click the Data Browser tab.
    *4.*
    Highlight dc=oracle,dc=com under Client View.

    Can you help me?
    best regardes
    Alessandro

    Hi Saggu,
You are absolutely right. It's working fine now. I need to know one more like performance.
If i have three adapters in the adapter configuration, and 21 adapters in the adapter configuration.
Which kind of configuration will help to improve the performance?
    Two Scenarios:
    1. Three Adapters
    2. 21 Adapters.
    Explanation:
    1. Adapters are mapped at Root DN level.
    Example: dc=company,dc=groups,dc=com
    2. Adapters are mapped to interior level.
    Example: ou=Firstgroup,o=initialemp,dc=company,dc=group,dc=com
Based on the above two scenarios which mapping is the best regarding the performance level.
Can you please suggest me on this performance issue.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Sandeep D

  • How to create local store adapters in bulk without using ODSM in OVD

    Hello,
Our requirement is to create 62 local store adapters in OVD
Hence, it can not be done using manual effort
I have tried to do this using below approach:
Create an ldif containing 62 groups
Update adapters.os_xml to have the 62 nodes of "standard" per adapter
    restart OVD
import ldif file in data browser in ODSM
However, this approach is not working
I am not able to search these groups in my configured OAM and getting "No profile configured for such kind of group" error in identity console of OAM (10g)
    Please help
    Thanks,

You cannot create a APPdomain without DNS manager.
You can install DNS role on a machine and update your sharepoint server's DNS to consume from this DNS server. APPdomain cannot work without DNS
