Import problem SQL Developer 1.51 Build 5440
importing data using XLS file, the import wizard did not move to next step after selecting the required XLS file where as importing the same XLS data after converting into CSV format, it completes the process. although it is mentioned in the HELP that the DATAVIEW file be a XLS file but in the File Selection window XLS file type is not mentioned in the file type list.
Regards
Arshad Jamil
another thing that i forget to mentioned that after selecting the required XLS file the Sheet(s) selector did not show the sheets to be selected unless you expand the wizard window.
Thanks

Oracle Importing in SQL Developer 1.5.0.53
Hi,
I am trying to import a text file using SQL developer. After I go "Import Data" and then select the file I want, I get the Error "There are no readers redistered for the txt type". Where do I get the reader for this? I am not sure how to fix this problem so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
KG
Edited by: user587764 on Nov 10, 2008 7:16 AMThe Import Data context menu is specifically for spreadsheet import, either xls or csv format. If you have a txt file or sql insert statements, then you can run that in the SQL Worksheet. You don't specify the format of data.

SQL Developer replacing Query Builder 6.0.7
Dear All,
We know SQL Developer 3.0 has a link to Query Builder from within it, but does it contain a similar structure as we saw in the old Query Builder 6.0.7 developed by Oracle long back?
The old Query Builder 6.0.7 could be used for editing and creating parameterised queries and generating formatted output, so just want to know if we can get the similar functionality using SQL Developer 3.0.
1. Whether SQL Developer 3.0 can create and edit queries by selecting data tables in Oracle?
2. Can it convert any old Query Builder queries (in .brw extension) to a format that can be run in SQL Developer 3.0?
I am about to download and install the SQL developer 3.0, but thought of asking here first and get some advice/views.
So, Please reply back with anything that might help me out.
With Regards,
PamirYes thanks Jim...I realised that when I started to dig more into this.
Now I have downloaded and installed the software...currently am able to create, edit queries and do other stuff.
With Regards,
Pamir

.csv data import via SQL developer
I am trying to load an Access 2003 table into an Oracle 10g database via SQL developer. The Access file is located on another system and there is no ODBC connection between it and the SQL server.
What I have done so far is the following:
i) Export Access table as comma-delimited text file;
ii) Open text file and re-saved as .CSV;
iii) On SQL developer - created a table that matches the column structure in the original Access table, then right-clicked > Import Data > on Data Import Wizard I click Next...
after this, the wizard hangs on step 1, and does not allow me to move to the second step. It doesn't matter whether or not the SQL *Loader option is checked.
If anyone could offer some advice on the procedure I have applied above and possible sources of weakness, I'd be grateful to hear your thoughts. I'm relatively new to Oracel SQL and not very experienced with databases in general.
ThanksSince this is not native export/import, a better place could be this forum:

SQL Developer 4.0 Build MAIN-12.84 column width in data grid
A while ago I posted a thread about being unable to adjust the column width to "compress" everything on the screen to make the data more easily viewable. I just installed the latest build, and while it works slightly better, it still does not seem that there is any way of making the query results take up the least possible space. When you resize one column, it is affecting the size of other columns. Also, having to resize the columns for every query would be a massive hassle. Are there any plans to have an auto fit option that will fit to the least needed size that is necessary to display either the width of a heading and/or the data? The lack of this ability is why I am forced to stick to an old version of SQL Developer.
yup, already fixed for EA3 - you'll see the grids size to the space required, not to fill the screen. Just like you see in version 3.2.

Error during data pump import with SQL developer
Hello,
I try to trasnfer data from one database to another one through data pump via SQL Developper (data amount is quite important) exporting several tables.
Tables export is doing fine, but I encounter the following error when I import the file (I try data only and data + DDL).
"Exception: ORA-39001: argument value invalid dbms_datapump.get_status(64...=
ORA-39001: argument value invalid
ORA-39000: ....
ORA-31619: ...
The file is in the right place, data pump folder of the new database. User is the same on both base, database version are similar.
Do you have any idea of the problem ?
ThanksWith query SELECT * FROM v$version;

Just downloaded latest sqldeveloper release (full release - 74MB). I am using windows XP laptop.
When I tried to use connection using TNS connection type with connect identifier (trying to use OID based name resolution).
The test button showed success. When I clieck "connect" button, it crashed repeatedly.
When I use basic connectivity, it works...
Using OID based name resolution is most important for my organization.
Any suggestions?
It didnot work in previous release too..I hoped this release would have fixed it.
Is it still ON for next 1.1 eval release ?
- JayantI got it working by
1. Installing 10.2 runtime client,
2. copying
ojdbc14.jar and
ojdbs14dms.jar
into sqldeveloper\jdbc\lib directory from 10.2 client jdbc/lib directory.
With this, now the SQLDeveloper doesnot crash, and I can continue working.
Hopefully, in next evaluation release, the error gets fixed?
Is OID based name resolution so rare in oracle installations? I am curious to know about popular method for database name resolution in geogarphically disparse organizations? -
Bug report: sql developer/application express application import
I noticed some bugs on deploying an application using sql developer 1.5.1-5440.
Using a single file deployment generated by apex including install/upgrade/remove scripts: Here's what happens:
# I tried installing version 1.1 of my application already existing. Connected to the parsing schema of the version 1.0 I can clearly see my app "dashboard(101)"
# using sql dev I tried an application import. Using the following import options buildstatus =runonly, autoassign app_id and checked run install scripts
# The install runs, but instead of using the upgrade script it simply runs the install script causing a lot of errors of course since the objects already exist in the schema
# After this installation the application is visible in the workspace using a browser dashboard(102), however it remains invisible in sql developer where i can still only see dashboard(101)
After this failure I decided to go ahead and try once more doing the same thing but now just not check run install scripts.
To my amazement it still runs the install scripts???
Now I have 3 application showing in the browser and still only 1 in sql developer
Final problem with sql developer is that I choose to drop dashboard(101) it only deinstalls the application. It does not run the deinstall script for supporting objects included in dashboard(101).
All this makes an easy deployment a real hassle, since the browser interface can't handle a run only apllication with supporting object as all (it simply doesn't run the install script) I need to use sql developer, which is then fine for the first install, but then doen't upgrade properly. Finaly deinstalling a run only application again is impossible from a workspace and does work from sql developer, but then you still have to do the deinstall of the db objects manually.
I know as an apex admin I can work arround al this by switching the build status etc etc, but then again I can do anything if I'm apex admin and db sys.Point in having a single file deployment is allowing a novice user to easily install.
GeertHi Scott
Thanks for the reply

Run Only applications don't show up in the application list because they should not be editable. But perhaps it could display an icon indicating that.In my opinion they should and they do. The single app that is appearing in the list in sql developer is run only. Having it here allows me to select drop amongst other functionality the browser interface currently still lacks. Even when I drop all apps and than reinstall them again it seems like I can only see 1 version of an app with the same name.
sspadafo wrote:
The problem you described where you can't use the Application Install wizard to install supporting objects if the application is set to Run Only should be fixed in the upcoming 3.1.2 release/patch.I've installed the patch and I'm afraid the patch is no good either. Indeed is has improved. After the app installs it shows the supporting object dialogue. But if you then select yes and press Next it does absolutely nothing and redirects tot the application showing Application not available for edit.
So if you would be so kind to reopen bug 7286162
So while I'm on this section in my opinion the following bugs exist/features are missing
SQL Developer interface
# Not all application for parsing schema are shown in connection explorer. It seems like it can multiple show apps with different names only not when you install the same app twice with different app_id's. Then it only show the lowest app_id.
# Installing runonly app with supporting objects installs supporting object regardless of option selected
# Installing runonly app with upgrade scripts ignores update scripts and runs install scripts regardless of "install supporting objects" checkbox's state
# De installing app shows unpredictable behaviour for running deinstall scripts. It seemingly prompts random. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. When it does show I get behaviour like initially prompting for running deinstall script, failing to run deinstall script, causing neither app or objects to be dropped, on retry not showing prompt anymore and only dropping app.
Browser interface
# Installing a runonly app always finishes with a white page showing only Application not available for edit instead of showing a proper installation summary
# Installing a runonly app still prevents installation of supporting objects
# De installing a runonly application is not possible. Possible a button for de install could be included on page 4000:733
# Unable to perform important application level task from workspace like changing status, alias, global notification, proxy \\ (which are all available in the sql developer interface and imho could all be added to page 400:733 of the browser interface)
Hope this helps,

Import an excel file into SQL Developer and create a table
Hello everyone!
I have an Excel file I want to Import into SQL Developer. Do I need to Create a table first than import the file into the table?
Or is there a way to import an Excel file and it automatically generate or turn into a table?
I would really appreciate any directions or explanations.
Thanks everyone!

SQLDeveloper TeamThanks for the reply but the problem was I needed to convert the file to a csv format. To do this open the file in Excel and re-save as CSV Comma Delimiter. Don't worry about data-types because when the file is uploaded to SQL Developer, you will have the chance to set all the parameters, data-types and so on.
Once I did this and try opening the file, the setup window opened and I was able to do all the additional tweaking and convert the data to a table.
Because of this I am speculating that SQL Developer does not work with Excel XLSX extension.
Thanks again!

Import SQL Developer xml History files to a table
I'd like to import my SQL Developer xml history files into an Oracle table. What's the best way to do this?
I had some success in Pages 1, but I've only tried a couple of times so far in Pages 2 without success. The trick was to make sure the table is the exact number of columns wide. It's very "klunky" but I've ended up converting the tab-delimited text to a table in AppleWorks, saving the AppleWorks file with the table as a "floating" object (fixed objects don't translate) & opening the file in Pages. It's quicker & easier for most of what I do to just drag & drop in Pages.

Import or Convert Visio database diagram for SQL Developer Data Modeling
Hi,
Would you please advise on how it would be possible to convert an existing Visio 2007 ERD diagram for import into SQL Developer Data Modeling?
I have tried to save the model as XML Stencil, Template and Drawing, but could not successfully import it into SQL Developer Data Modeling.
Appreciate your input on this!
Cheers! Those are just drawing formats and don't contain any useful information about the datamodel. If you can generate ddl from the diagram you can import that, but visio is really just a drawing tool with partial data modeling addins.

Tnsnames.ora file does not seem to load in SQL Developer
I've really tried my best to figure this out on my own ... through the Help, this forum, and Internet in general. I apoligize in advance for having to ask this, since I'm sure this is a common issue. This particular form entry was really close:
Database Connections will not load tnsnames.ora
But, I just can seem to figure out why, or where entries from my tnsnames.ora file are loading into SQL Developer.
- I have the TNS_ADMIN system environment variable defined to the directory where tnsnames.ora is stored - C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\client_1\NETWORK\ADMIN.
- I do not see a TNS tab as the forum entry above indicates anywhere in SQL Developer - This may be my problem.
It seems that this issue could be cleared up with better directions on how to import tnsnames.ora entries into SQL Developer. Is there any specific direction on how to get your tnsnames.ora file setup correctly with SQL Developer running on Windows XP - Besides the Help which mentions the setup of TNS_ADMIN, but doesn't really tell you what the expected result is, or where the entries will be, or how to verify this is working?
Any help would be most appreciated.
Thanks,
Dave

After testing in our environment, it appears that SQL Developer 1.5.1 (5440) does in fact ignore the TNS_ADMIN environment variable and ONLY looks in the Oracle Home directory (network/admin). We define a central network location for our tnsnames file and have the tns_admin setup to point there instead of locally for our users.
When selecting to add a new connection (in 1.5.1, it works in previously releases... meaning 1.2.something) and selecting TNS, the drop-down remains empty. However, if I exit SQL Developer and then copy the tnsnames file to the local network/admin directory I can then re-launch SQL Developer and the drop-down is populated. Exiting SQL Developer again, deleting the local copy of tnsnames, and then launching SQL Developer yet again results in the drop-down being empty.
All other Oracle-related applications function as expected (as they have for years) using the TNS_ADMIN environment variable.
Any suggestions/ideas?
