Import specific schema from exported full database dump...

In my application if I take backup expdp using full=y and during impdp if I want some specific schemas only then it will fine? or It recommended to specify full=y also in impdp.
suggest me..

Hi,
Yes it is fine.
you have three option.
1. full
2. schema level
3. table level
it is up to you how you want to import your database.

  • Export/Import full database dump fails to recreate the workspaces

    Hi,
We are studying the possibility of using Oracle Workspace to maintain multiple versions of our business data. I recently did some tests with the import/export of a dump that contains multiple workspaces. I'm not able to import the dump successfully because it doesn't recreate the workspaces on the target database instance, which is an empty Oracle database freshly created. Before to launch the import with the Oracle Data Pump utility, I have the "LIVE" workspace that exists in the WMSYS.WM$WORKSPACES_TABLE table. After the import is done, there is nothing in that table...
The versions of the Oracle database and Oracle Workspace Manager are the same on source and target database:
Database version (from the V$VERSION view):
    Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0 - 64bi
    PL/SQL Release 10.2.0.4.0 - Production
    CORE     10.2.0.4.0     Production
TNS for 64-bit Windows: Version 10.2.0.4.0 - Production
    NLSRTL Version 10.2.0.4.0 - Production
Workspace Manager version (from the WM_INSTALLATION view):
    OWM_VERSION: 10.2.0.4.3
In order to recreate the tablespaces successfully during the full import of the dump, the directory structure for the tablespaces is the same on the target database's computer. I used the instructions given in this document, section "1.6 Import and Export Considerations" at page 1-19:
    http://www.wyswert.com/documentation/oracle/database/11.2/appdev.112/e11826.pdf
Considering that the release of Oracle database used is version 10.2.0.4, I use the following command to import the dump since it doesn't contain the WMSYS schema:
    impdp system/<password>@<database> DIRECTORY=data_pump_dir DUMPFILE=expfull.dmp FULL=y TABLE_EXISTS_ACTION=append LOGFILE=impfull.log
The only hints I have in the import log file are the following block of lines:
    1st one:
    ==============================

By the way, the computer of the source database is Vista 64 in english and the destination computer is Vista 64 in french, do you think this has anything to do with these error messages? The parameters of the NLS_SESSION_PARAMETERS view are the same in the source and target database...

I tried to import the full database dump with the "imp" command and I had the same error message with more detail:

The call to the TO_DATE function with the string of the date format is incompatible with the format and language set in the NLS parameters of my database. Since I know that the "imp" and "exp" commands work client side (unlike "impdp" and "expdp"), I did a full export of the source database from the computer on which I try to import the dump to have the same language exported in the dump and I was able to import the dump successfully.
But, I would like to use the Data Pump tool instead of the old import and export tools. How would it be possible to set the NLS parameters that "impdp" must use before to launch the import of the dump?
The NLS parameters are set to the "AMERICAN" settings in both source and destination database when I validate that with the "NLS_DATABASE_PARAMETERS" view. The dump I did with "expdp" on the source database exported the data with the "AMERICAN" settings as well...
On the destination database, the computer language is in french and I guess it is considered by the Data Pump import tool since it outputs the log in the language of the computer and it tries to do a TO_DATE with the wrong date format because it works with the "CANADIAN FRENCH" settings...
Any suggestions? I'll continue to read on my side and re-post if I find the solution.
    Thanks!

  • How to export a user and their schema from one 10g database to another?

    Hi,
I would like to export a user and their entire schema from one 10g database to another one. How do I do this?
    thx
    adam

If you want to export a user and the schema owned to the user, and import to the same user in a different database, or a different user in the same database, you can use the exp and imp commands as described in the Utilities manual.
These commands are very versatile and have a lot of options - well worth learning properly. To give you a simplistic shortcut, see below - I create a user 'test_move', create some objects in the schema, export, create a new user in the database 'new_move' and import.

There are many variations on the theme ...
You can simplify this. You can select tables individually. You can use a parameter file. You can transport all the constraints and data. You can skip the data and only move the definitions. You can get some help (imp/exp help=yes).
And, if it's all 10g, there is a new and improved facility called expdp/impdp (dp = data pump) which has a lot more capability as well, including direct transfer (no intermediate file) together with suspend/restart. Also documented in the Utilities manual.

  • Export full database

How does export full database work in data-pump .Does it also exports system and sysaux tablespaces or only all schema data and related metadata.

DataPump is a logical export, so it works with DB objects - schemas, tables, views, etc.
So when you perform full export - then all info from sys/system and other users is exported to the dump

  • How to determine who performed the last full database dump before cumulative dump

    Hello,
ASE 15.7 SP100 allows cumulative backups, and if cumulative dump is tried before a full dump, ASE shows this error:
You cannot execute an incremental dump before a full database dump.
From my experiments, it seems that it does not matter how the full dump is performed (by native isql, or by a 3rd party API). As long as a full dump is done on a database, ASE seems to be keeping track of all the changed pages since the last full dump. So this means that you can perform a full dump using a 3rd party API, and then on isql, if you run a cumulative dump command, the cumulative dump succeeds, which is based on the last full dump by another library!
So, my question is: is there any way to programmatically determine how (by native isql or 3rd party) the last full backup was performed? I believe $SYBASE_HOME/ASE-15_0/dumphist contains this info, but it requires 'enable dump history' to be set first, and I am looking for a solution which does not involve checking a disk file.
    Thanks,
    Ali

    Dear Mr Razib,
I have not explored the feature but ASE autiding might provide you the possibility to access information on past database dumps via SQL.
Apart from that - I am not aware of an SQL interface to the dumphist file (would be nice to have, I agree)
Enabling dump history is definitley highly recommended  (in my opinion) .
There is yet another feature which might help you to prevent an DBA from dumping databases and transactions to various locations.
When you create a DUMP CONFIGURATION and additionally set parameter
            enforce dump configuration
ASE will prevent normal (free style) DUMP commands but enforce the use of an existing dump configuration. The mechanism is not fool proof (nothing prevents from creating yet another dump configuration on the fly) - but at least something.
    With kind regards
    Tilman Model-Bosch

  • Exporting full database...

    Dear All,
While exporting full database objects of sys user are exported or not?
    Please tell me in details.
    Thanks In advance.
    PSP.

I agree all your point. But, what will you do when an object is dropped such as TABLE >when the DB is 5 T or more.
Would you do a PIT? would you?
I accept that we use this exp/imp as one way of data migration. It doesn't become it is a >migration tool not a backup tool.
Then why would ppl say it is a logical backup not as migration tool. ppl say we can use >this as one way for data migration. Then there's when your sounded backup plan comes in play.
We use to do a full exp every day from our small databases, and the retention policy is 14 days.
In the Biggest database a full exp is not possible due batch processing at night, so we take a home made incremental export for the big objects and the rest of tables.
In 10g i think you can set the flashback to 2 weeks and that's all we need. (ya its a lot of space but it depends on your policy and your database size).
I'm not against EXP/ IMP at all, but you cant rely on them other than getting back a table or a stored procedure from certain date.
what i've noticed is that lot of people use exp/imp in small databases and this is their main backup strategy, but when they start working with big databases this approach is just not enough.
This is why you have to work and review your corporate backup policy.
It doesn't matter if you are an excellent DBA, if you took 3 days (or more) to restore your database you are just not doing your work.
    my 2c.
    Edit:
May be i need to clarify something.
Physical backup is intended to fast restore your database from a crash.
Logical Backup is used to migrate data, even if its into the same database.

  • How to import a table from another oracle database ?

    Hi all ,
i could like to use pl/sql to import one table from another oracle database server ?
is it possible to do this ?
    A server B server
table: test <------------------------> table : newtest
the tns profile already configurated . the connection is ready .
    thanks a lot !

if i don't have TEST table on server B whether COPY command will create this table on server B with the same structure ? If you specify CREATE as a clause the table will be created:
    SQL> help copy
    COPY
COPY copies data from a query to a table in a local or remote
database. COPY supports CHAR, DATE, LONG, NUMBER and VARCHAR2.
    COPY {FROM database | TO database | FROM database TO database}
                APPENDCREATE|INSERT|REPLACE} destination_table
[(column, column, column, ...)] USING query
where database has the following syntax:
         username[password]@connect_identifier

You can (using database links), but this will generally result in even poorer performance (unless by "another Oracle database" you mean using RAC?)
It sounds more like you either need to upgrade your systems, or refactor your applications to have a smaller performance footprint.

  • From a complete database dump, I need to import 8 schemas

I have a complete database dump made with datapump on oracle 10g on Linux.
I need to import only 8 schemas.
In my parfile I have to use the INCLUDE option?
How can I tell oracle to import only these 4 schemas?

    Hi,
What is the version you are using.. ??
In my parfile I have to use the INCLUDE option?
As per yu requirment it might not fit, I suppose
The INCLUDE and EXCLUDE parameters can be used to limit the export/import to specific objects.
Second thing is that when you use INCLUDE parameter only those objects specified by it will be included and EXCLUDE will make sure that all objects except those specified by it will be included in the export.
How can I tell oracle to import only these 4 schemas?
Better I suggest that import the full dB in to some test DB, then do an schema level export with respective your requirement.
As, sybrand had pointed the correct point of SCHEMAS, which I missed out..

  • Impdp specific schema from dump which has been created using full=y

    Hi,
I have received a dump (expdp) which has been created using the parameter FULL=Y. I just want to import (impdp) only one schema into my database. I have used remap_schema and exclude=grants. The schema i want to import is carried out successfully, but in my import log i keep getting the messages such as :
ORA-31684: Object type TABLESPACE:"TS_BCST1" already exists
ORA-31684: Object type USER:"OUTLN" already exists
ORA-31684: Object type SEQUENCE:"SYSTEM"."MVIEW$_ADVSEQ_GENERIC" already exists
How can i use impdp only to import objects under my specific schema and not have impdp attempt to create system/sys users and its objects, create tablespaces, etc etc.
    Kindly assist.
    Regards,
    Karan

Use SCHEMAS parameter in the impdp command to import the scpecific schema.
    Eg.
    impdp system/password schemas=user1 remap_schema=user1:user2 directory=dir dumpfile=user1.dmp...........

Yet another 'I refuse to read the documentation, unless some volunteer spoon feeds me' question.
What happened to the DBA community. Is there some special virus spreading all over the globe?
Or is the virus called 'OTN' and is OTN making DBAs permanently lazy, trying constantly how to do a little as possible for their money.
You can easily construct the answer yourself from this overview.
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14215/dp_import.htm#sthref389
And please re-read the Forums Etiquette post again, or read it for the first time, stating you need to peruse the documentation prior to asking a question.

  • How to Export/Import specific/selected table columns (can database view be

    All,
I like to export and import some selected columns and rows of a table from one oracle database to another database.
For example, I like to export the following SQL's result data to another oracle database.
    select ename, sal from emp where dno = 100;
Can I create a database view based on the above SQL and export the view with data (I don't think data will be exported along with database view?)
I know, I can do this either with SQL*Loader or by creating DBLink between databases and using insert-select statement.
Please let me know if this is possible in exp/imp.
    Appreciate your help.
    Thanks
    Kumar

    Hello,
You can Query and table option to export and import and i recommend you to create parameter file to use query option
    parfile.par
    file=myexport.dmp
    tables=table1,table2,table3
    query="where dno=2"
..Conventional export/import, you can also consider using datapump if you are using 10g.
    exp username/password parfile=parfile.par log=myexport.log
    imp username/password file=myexport.dmp tables=table1,table2,table3 log=myimport.logRegards
