Importing a Database
Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler. Version 3.3.0.747
I am trying to import a databaae into the Data Modeler.
It seems to get stuck.
The Generating Design prompt doesn't show any progress.
So far it has been in the Generating Design mode fro more than 24 hrs.
There is no CPU useage for the DataModler executible.
In the message log, there is a message that we are "Importing DB Metadata".
The database is rather large (somewhat more than 3500 tables).
Is there any way to get past this?
Hi,
what is database, what drivers (type connection) do you use?
Is database in local network or it's at remote location - ping in LAN is 1-2ms for remote it could be >250ms and that makes a difference.
3500 tables are not that much and import shouldn't take more than 10 minutes for LAN. Well if object types are involved then those types also need to be imported and that also takes time.
You can also check memory usage and probably to increase memory dedicated to Data Modeler - that's in datamodeler\datamodeler\bin - datamodeler64.conf or datamodeler.conf files:
AddVMOption -Xmx768M
Change 768 to something that works for you.

Hi DBAs,
I need to import a database from 10.2.0.4 (RHEL 5.1) to 11.1.0.7 (RHEL 5.1). At source database there are 3 schemas with many defined roles for which I am interested in. I tried to do exp/imp at schema level but there were many defined roles and permissions which were giving IMP as well ORA error. If I do the Full database exp/imp , it is also importing the system/sysaux TS as well DBSNMP etc schemas which I dont want.
Please advise in above scenario, how should I import these schemas to the target which is running Oracle 11g.
Thanks
-Samar-You can do this also
1. Export 3 schemas with grants=y rows=N and import the data schema structure with grants
2.Check the log file for missing roles and create those roles using from dba_role_privs..etc
3. Import the data ignore=y option
Hope this helps

expdp "'/ as sysdba'" full=Y dumpfile=DATA_PUMP1:full%U.dmp, DATA_PUMP2:full%U.dmp logfile=DATA_PUMP1:full.log FILESIZE=10G PARALLEL=4I am expecting my import command to be

1. What change do I need to make while importing since database version in source and target are different?
2. Do I need to change any thing in my import command?1. What change do I need to make while importing since database version in source and target are different?You don't have to do anything. You are exporting metadata that will be recreated in your new database and new version. Just run the import command.
2. Do I need to change any thing in my import command?I don't think you need to change anything. You an add parallel if you want, but the import parallel does not have to match the export parallel, so keeping it as you have it will be fine.

Portal export/import on database 8.1.7 on an other machine
Hello,
I'm running Oracle8i on AIX. I have problem when I try full export/import my database (version 8.1.7) on an other machine. I have a problem with import users PORTAL30 and PORTAL30_SSO and CREATE TABLE 'WWSEC_ENABLER_CONFIG_INFO$'
The log when import full is:
IMP-00017: following statement failed with ORACLE error 22973:
"CREATE TABLE "WWSEC_ENABLER_CONFIG_INFO$" OF "SEC_ENABLER_CONFIG_TYPE" OID "
"'BA6473B86EF248BEE0330A18780F48BE' ( PRIMARY KEY ("LS_LOGIN_URL")) OBJECT "
"ID PRIMARY KEY PCTFREE 10 PCTUSED 40 INITRANS 1 MAXTRANS 255 LOGGING STORAG"
"E(INITIAL 131072 NEXT 131072 MINEXTENTS 1 MAXEXTENTS 4096 PCTINCREASE 0 FRE"
"ELISTS 1 FREELIST GROUPS 1 BUFFER_POOL DEFAULT) TABLESPACE "TBS_PORTAL""
IMP-00003: ORACLE error 22973 encountered
ORA-22973: size of object identifier exceeds maximum size allowed
Thank you.
Borjana ZekicWhen using export/import between different releases, you need to use the older version of export to create your dump file. In your case, you must use the 8.0.5 export utility to export from your 8.1.7 database. You need a tnsname in your 8.0.5 tnsnames.ora that points to your 8.1.7 database. Then you use SQL Net to connect and do the export. So, instead of doing exp system/manager you would do exp system/manager@tnsname. Just be sure to use the 8.0.5 export, and your import will work fine.

IPhoto importing other databases
Hi,
I'm considering to switch to Apple once they release a G5 type of computer with Intel micros and I imagine there are very high chances that I will end up using iPhoto to organize my pictures.
At the moment I do not have any database to organize them and my pictures are getting out of hand so I thought I would need to get a picture organizer for my current Windows computer but before doing that I would like to check if iPhoto can import any database from another app so that I do not have to redo all keywords when I switch.
I've been looking in the forums and faqs with no luck and Apple does not have an online version of iPhoto's user manual. Could somebody help me with this question?
Thanks,
AlejandroAlejandro:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. In addition to Sam's comments I'll add that any keywords or comments you might try to add to your photos on your PC will not be carried over to iPhoto. It copies the photos into it's own unique folder system and you have to add the keywords, etc. once it's in iPhoto.
Here are two Apple KB documents that you should be aware of, particularly the second one:
iPhoto Library Description
Don't tamper with files in the iPhoto Library folder from the Finder
Hope this has been of some help. Good luck.

Problem with "import sabasrv.database.*;"
Hi there..
I am new to the Java game so this is probably a very easy problem to fix.
I am using the Forte IDE and My code has the following imports :
package sabasrv.user;
import javax.servlet.*;
import javax.servlet.http.*;
import java.io.*;
import java.util.*;
import java.lang.*;
import java.sql.SQLException ;
import sabasrv.database.*;
The problem is that whenI try to compile I get the following error:
src/sabasrv/user/User.java [8:1] Package sabasrv.database. not found in import.
import sabasrv.database.*;
^
src/sabasrv/user/User.java [16:1] Class DbSql not found in type declaration or import.
DbSql sql ;
^
2 errors
Any ideas why I am getting this? My CLASSPATH environment variable is :
CLASSPATH=C:\jdk1.1.8\jsdk23.jar;C:\old_Saba_servlet\src\sabasrv\database
I hope this is enough info to go on.
Your fwend.
KorwinYou classpath should probably be
C:\old_Saba_servlet\src
instead of
C:\old_Saba_servlet\src\sabasrv\database
if you have classfiles in that directory and not just the source files. Try that. The package name is "appended" to the classpath, so sabasrv.user will be /sabasrv/user when it looks for class files in that package. -

Hi,
I want to import a database A(Source) to another database B(Target).
Scenario is as follows
Database A
HIN Name Father Date
1234501 Rahul Suresh 01/01/2011
Database B
HIN Name Father Date
1234502 Rahul Suresh 05/05/2011
HIN will be same, except for last two digits, for particular user
Its a possibility that the particular user could exist in Database B.So,My requirement is to first check the HIN for any user,if all digits are same, except last two digits,then the Name & Father will be checked and if both are also same then the data from Database A to be added (not overwrite) to Database B.
The result should be like this:
Database B
HIN Name Father Date
1234502 Rahul Suresh 05/05/2011
1234502 Rahul Suresh 01/01/2011
How can it be possible,Please help me out.
ThanxYou can do it with SQL and PL/SQL
If you want to do it with Data Pump, check REMAP_DATA parameter (it's available at 11g). Using this parameter you can remap the data at it is being inserted into the database. Check the following links:

ABAP command "import from database..."
Can someone in this forum explain to me the low level details behind the ABAP command "import from database"?
The select in tables like stxl, indx, moni just retrieves data in hex format for the fields of type raw or lraw.
But the command import from database works fine!
What's the magic? Compression? Hash algorithms? etc?
Thanks!When you import a field from a database, it should be the same name and format when it was exported. These databases are a cluster table where data is stored in raw. I assumed it will read the cluster portion of the record and convert it into the field structure byte by byte. These tables have field CLUSTR which store the byte size of the record. So if you are willing to program the read, where you find out the length of the field you want to IMPORT, then read that number of byte from the cluster data, move it to the field you are importing, you should be able to do your own read. However, if we can do it in 1 statement using IMPORT, we don't need to program it.
Cluster table is used to save space since you don't need to create a new database record for each line of internal table you stored into them. Hope this helps. -
Import dmp database with EE8MSWIN1250 to AL32UTF8 (XE)
I have problem with importing dmp database with EE8MSWIN1250 to AL32UTF8 (XE)
I've tried to import my database dump with settings NLS_LANG=POLISH_POLAND.AL32UTF8 but it didn't work
I had
IMP-00019: row rejected due to ORACLE error 12899
IMP-00003: ORACLE error 12899 encountered
ORA-12899: value too large for column "MYDB"."AP_ARKUSZE_PRZECENY"."PRZEC_KOD" (actual: 26, maximum: 25)
Column 1 1
Column 2 Arkusz ĹredniowaĹĽon\$NR$
Column 3 16-WRZ-2002:00:00:00
so I exported my database with NLS_LANG=POLISH_POLAND.AL32UTF8 and next I tried to import this dump but it still didn't work.
Anybody knows how to import dump database ??It isn't correct approach. Column size is one of database constraints and you compromised it, so beware.
Correct approach is modifying columns to apply char length semantics, it means you should use following construct
alter table tablename modify columnname varchar2(10 CHAR)
In your code replace your execute immediate line with:
EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'ALTER TABLE ' || tn || ' MODIFY ' || cn || ' VARCHAR2(' || crec.data_length || ' CHAR )';
Look at this example:
This is your original table
SQL>
SQL> create table T2( c varchar2(10 byte) );
Tabulka vytvořena.
SQL>
SQL> insert into T2 values ('0123456789');
1 řádka vytvořena.
SQL> insert into T2 values ('0123456789 few more');
insert into T2 values ('0123456789 few more')
CHYBA na řádku 1:
ORA-12899: value too large for column "MIGR"."T2"."C" (actual: 19, maximum: 10)
values longer then 10 characters are not allowed, it was your constraint, and now your modification
SQL>
SQL> alter table T2 modify c varchar2(20); -- 2*10
Tabulka změněna.
SQL> insert into T2 values ('+ěčřýýáí');
1 řádka vytvořena.
You solved the problem, you shoud be praised
SQL> insert into T2 values ('0123456789 few more');
1 řádka vytvořena.
But, you compromised your data model
SQL>
SQL> rem correct approach
SQL>
SQL> delete from T2 where length(c)>10;
1 řádka vymazána.
This solve both problems, and constraint is still valid
SQL>
SQL> alter table T2 modify c varchar2(10 char);
Tabulka změněna.
SQL>
SQL> insert into T2 values ('+ěčřýýáí');
1 řádka vytvořena.
SQL> insert into T2 values ('0123456789 few more');
insert into T2 values ('0123456789 few more')
CHYBA na řádku 1:
ORA-12899: value too large for column "MIGR"."T2"."C" (actual: 19, maximum: 10) -

Importing 817 Database into 806
I need to Import a database from version 817 into version 806.
Can anyone provide a method/procedures for exporting from 817 then importing to 806?
The documentation on Oracle's web site has a lot of migration paths but not this particular one.
I'd appreciate any suggestions I can get.
Thanks,
JesseYou have to use the export utility of the older version in order to create your dump file. A dump created using a newer version of export can never be imported into an older version of database.
In your case, use the 8.0.6 export utility and connect to your 8.1.7 database using SQL*Net to run your export. Then you can use 8.0.6 import to import it into the 8.0.6 database.
If you have access to Metalink the following doc details the compatibility matrix for export/import: doc. id. 132904.1. -

Edited by: oradb on Nov 29, 2010 1:54 AMwhich method are you using to take the dump ?
if you are using the imp/exp method ,
then simple create a parameter file with the following parameters :
indexes=y
rows=y
grants=y
buffer=500000
ignore=y
statistics=none
full=y
log=logfile.log
and then run the following command :
imp system/**** <parfilename>
Always refer to the logfile to see for successfull completion of the import.
hope this helps

Edited by: vicky....... on Dec 5, 2010 9:30 PMHi,
You can't import dump file to apex.
For importing you have to take your database in sql script and run it on apex.
