Importing flash with AS3 external files

developing a ui in flash for photo gallery which I am loading
into dreamweaver.
using as3 in flash to load external photo files so not all
having to download on opening.
have had no problem in dreamweaver with swfs with embedded
jpgs.
ui comes up in dreamweaver but not external files. even
though when I open swf movie or the flash created html of same
file, on its own, no prob.
anyone run across this problem, jpgs are in same file as
flash media, also dropped them into image file just in case that
might work---no go
any ideas ?

Post a link to the page, please.

  • Working with AS3 External Classes

Ok... trying to work with AS3 external classes. I have a movieClip that I want to also function as a button. Instance name is "_onDemand". This movieClip is on the stage of my Home.fla.  "_onDemand" movieClip properties   Class:HomePage  Base clase: flash.display.MovieClip
I want the user to click this movieClip and take the user to an external URL within a new browser window or tab.
Can anyone help me? Or at least point me to a really really good tutroial that does exactly this using external classes?
    Thanks so much,

Ok. I admit it... I had some wonderful help to resolve this issue. You ever feel like you are on an island learning AS3 External Classes? I feel that way all the time... so far... I plan on not feeling that way soon. I hope this helps someone get off that island.

  • Why can't I import clips with foreign character file names?

    What the **** man?
I've got a series of clips with foreign character file names that FCP will not let me access via the Import->File method. Some of the offending character sets include Chinese, Arabic, and a couple of less well known Unicode sets like Cherokee and Inuktitus.
What's interesting is that I can easily drag the clips onto the TL manually via Finder, but not File->Import. Also, XML passed to FCP that includes foreign character file names is ignored. Seeing as FCP is an Apple product I would have expected proper Unicode support 4 years ago.
Obviously I don't need a workaround per se... But I'd very much like to know why this is the way it is. We're developers doing development work for FCP so it's important for us.

Then you have a more direct path to the FCP engineers than this forum. Send them feedback directly. This place is user to user - no apple employees are officially here.
    good luck.

  • Problems importing a JavaScript (.js) external file

    Hello everyone,
Within RoboHelp, I was able to write a JavaScript function for a link that asks our customer if a topic was helpful.  The code basically populates the topic name in the subject line in the e-mail to prevent us from entering the topic name for each topic.  Basic stuff.  Anyway, if I put the code in the topic itself and call the function, it works beautifully.  But if I reference an external file with the traditional reference tag, I have no luck and an "object not found" error message displays, which tells me that it cannot locate the .js file -- it is in my project folder.  No dice.
Any thoughts on this?  Has anyone experienced this before?  I am using RoboHelp 7.

    Hi,
In the top of your HTML file stands an empty function: <script language=JavaScript>breadcrumbs()</script>. This is causing the error in your CHM. Remove this, or create a valid function.
Your script works fine in both CHM and WebHelp, but only the CHM gives an error message because of the empty function.
    Greet,

Okay, the problem is when I publish the .swf files and put it in an html or .aspx page, it does not work. The audio is not there and a few others things ar enot working. However, it does work if I click on the.html file that Flash created during the publication.
    Here are the folder structions:
    www.mysite.com/myFlashPage.aspx
    www.mysite.com/flashFileFolder/
    www.mysite.com/flashFileFolder/audioFiles/
So, the myFlashPage.aspx containsthe myFlash.swf file that is inside the flashFileFolder. For some reason, it does not work. Any suggestion is much appreciated.

The .html file does work if I publish it into the same folder as I created the Flash project. However, when I publish the
flash .swf to my web site folder (mapped), it's no longer working. The mapped web site drive structher are as follows:
    D:\Mysite\ contains the .html file
    D:\Mysite\flashFileFolder\ contains the .swf file
    D:\Mysite\flashFileFolder\audioFiles contains the PaukenBrumfiel_AngelsOnHigh.mp3 file
D:\Mysite\flashFileFolder\greensock-tweening-platform-as3 contains all the tweenlite files
The .html file does not work either. What else do I need to change?

  • Importing Flash Animation AS3 into Captivate 3.0

I have some animations and interactions that were written in
Flash AS3, that work fine when published in a SWF file and run with
FlashPlayer 9, but they don't work at all when I import them into
Captivate 3.0. In Captivate, they seem to run when they apear in
the in the Insert -> Animation dialog box., but then once they
are placed in Captivate, they don't show up at all when I Preview
-> Project (F4). The dialog box says that the duration of the
animation is 00:00:00.1 (i.e., one tenth of a second!). What was on
the stage (from the Flash file) shows up, but none of the AS3 code
    works. Help!!

If you create an AS3 widget in Cp4, you'll notice that is starts you off using a template.  Most of the action takes place on the onEnterFrame event handler.  If you want something specific to occur at a certain time, you must place a condition for either the current slide, or the current frame.  Otherwise, the actions you describe above will occur... you animation AS3 code just executes immediately because Cp doesn't know when to execute it otherwise .  I'd suggest that you either use the widget framework, or place a condition in your code for executing on a specific frame or slide.  When I create widgets, I check for a specific frame:
    if (mainmov.rdinfoCurrentFrame  == currentFrameCheck) {
         //your code here
If you go this route, I'd look into another function called AddNoSkipFrame which ensures Cp4 will not skip over the frame you're trying to check.  You can read more about it here.  And there's a thread about it here.
    Good Luck,
    Jim Leichliter

  • Flash with AS3 not loading properly in browser on mac

I am having a strange problem.  I have a flash swf file that has AS3.  It works fine on all MACs and PCs with client, except I have found one client MAC that displays the swf file as if the AS3 did not run to hide the layers.  It loads the swf file, but it looks like it does when I open the .fla file in Flash to work on it.  I can't figure it out.  I have reinstalled Flash to latest version, I reinstalled both Safari and Firefox.  But still in both browsers on this particular MAC the swf file is not working.
Can anyone think of what could be wrong?
Below is the link to the file which may look fine to anyone that goes to it.
    http://www.juf.org/interactive/answerthecall.aspx
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.  I feel like it is something simple with the Flash player or something.

  • FDM import script with selectable source file

    Hi All,
I would like to build an import script attached to an import format that imports a text file with multiple value columns.
    Source file:
Entity, Detail, Account 1, Account 2
    E_abc, D_abc, 100, 200
In FDM this needs to be:
    Entity, Detail, Account, Amount
    E_abc, D_abc, Account 1, 100
    E_abc, D_abc, Account 2, 200
So i need to loop through the file.
My biggest challenge is that when i attach a script to an import format in the import process i cannot select a file from inbox anymore, it has to be a pre-defined file.
Has someone an example or solution how to make a script-import format and enable the select file from inbox?
And if possible has someone an example script of the issue stated above?
    Thanks in advance,
    Marc

    Hi Wayne..
Thanks for your reply (and sorry for the delay in mine).
Could you tell me what script to use to open the file in the befImport script, or how to rename the file in memory to a new one?
So i write a script that rewrites the file to a new file in the inbox but i need to tell FDM that it needs to process this new file.
    Thanks,
    Marc

  • Import error with MPEG-2 files: Brorsoft Video Converter to Apple Prores.

    Hi,
The Brorsoft Video Converter software gives me an 'import error' message when I attempt to import files from a folder on my desktop. That folder contains many mpg files (MPEG-2 Video, AC3). Those files in the folder on my desktop came from a Sony video camera.
I need to convert those mpg files to Apple Prores 422 HQ so I can then edit them in Apple Final Cut Pro X.
But when I go to import those mpg files into the Brorsoft Video Converter software, it comes up with a message saying: 'import error', indicating that the Brorsoft Video Converter software does not understand the type of file.
I am on Mac OS X Version 10.6.8.
I've emailed Brorsoft support but I don't think English is their first language – they've emailed back to me asking for clarification of the problem. And I need the problem fixed as I have to edit this video for someone that has many waiting customers.
Could something have changed in the files when I copied them from the video camera to the desktop?
    Thanks in advance.
    Cheers,
    Paul

    Hi Tom,
Thanks for your prompt reply. I was using a friend's video camera – I've just texted him for the exact model of Sony video camera. I didn't yet have the Brorsoft Video Converter software when I had to give the video camera back to my friend. So, I copied the files off the video camera to my desktop.
It records onto an internal hard drive. And yes you're right, I don't need to go HQ. I also tried plain Apple Pro Res. That didn't work either. It comes up with 'Import error' message, so it seems like it just doesn't understand the file type.
When I go 'Get Info' on one of the files off the camera, it tells me it is an 'MPEG-2 video, AC3' file.
I'll try and get MPEG Streamclip like you suggested and see if that works.
    Thanks again.
    Cheers,
    Paul

  • Install flash with a batch file

good morning every one! i need some help.here's the hole
thing.i made an unattended XP installation and i wtote this little
    batch file "start /wait flash9.exe /q" . i want to install the
flash active-x after the finish of xp installation, when it starts
for the first time the desktop. i tried many ways but no
luck...does anyone knows how to do it? the process stops and i
think that the desktop is not fully loaded when the batch
    runs....thanks for your attention!

I don't know about formating around bad blocks, but I do know a thing or two about SS drives.  In my day job I design rugged computer systems that must withstand ridiculous vibration levels, as such we use SSDs.
They are not trivial devices and do a substantial amount of internal house keeping.
In general, they map logical blocks (the ones that are specified via the IDE interface) to physical locations in the drive.  They dynamically keep track of bad or worn out physical blocks and remove them from the logical to physical map.
Even more clever, they keep track of the write history to the physical blocks and perform automatic write leveling.  If a given portion of the drive is seeing excessive write cycles, while other areas never change, the controller will move the static data to the more worn area of the drive and the dynamic data to the areas that have less wear.  The map of logical to physical allocation is silently updated internally, and the external driver never knows it happened.
Because of the write leveling, when a drive starts to fail due to wear out, you will find the whole whole drive quickly fails.
Other considerations:  SSDs are VERY sensitive to loosing power during a write cycle.  The best way to corrupt a SSD is to power it down when it is performing a write or internal house keeping.
When selecting a SSD, or any solid state storage (SD, USB Drive, CF, etc...) pick one that uses single level encoding.  This means it stores one bit of data per EE cell.  Multi level encoding uses analog techniques to put more than one bit per cell.  Good for storage density, BAD for data integrity and storage life.

  • Working With Two External Files With T-SQL Commands

    Hi friends,
In a VSTO Excel AddIn of mine I have come across a need to use T-SQL commands before bringing the dataset on the activesheet, derived from two tables in the shape of external CSV files. However,
since using SQL Express in this regard requires connection to a server. With Visual Studio as well as SSMS installed on my laptop I'm able to use the said facility but I am unable to distribute such an addin to other team members not having any of the studios
installed nor access to any server.
Is there any way to use the similar features on the users' side?
In other words, how to develop a macro, for example, in which I could consider two CSV files as two different tables as in a database, and carryout some T-SQL functions/commands on the same like:
    UNION of first three columns from both the tables;
Creating a temporary table with the DISTINCT sets of the said three columns; and
    Then carryout LEFT JOINS between the new table and the earlier two tables;
to derive a simple comparative dataset?
Looking forward for you experts' valuable advices in this regard.
    Thanx in advance.
Thanx in advance, Best Regards, Faraz A Qureshi

    Hi FARAZ,
As with Excel files, you can also use Odbc driver to connect to CSV files. As long as the user's machine installs the ODBC driver, you can OdbcConnection to connect to the CSV files.
The sample code to manimulate CSV files with ODBC driver(C#):
    string connectionString = @"Driver={Microsoft Text Driver (*.txt; *.csv)}; Dbq=C:\; Extensions=asc,csv,tab,txt;";
using (OdbcConnection conn = new OdbcConnection(connectionString))
    conn.Open();

But if you want to publish the Add-in to the user's machine, you still need to install the .Net Framework and the VSTO runtime to support the Add-in.

  • Captivate 5.5 issue with finding external files

I have a project where I am trying to have a swf open another document (pdf, ppt, etc.).  What I am having an issue with is Captivate does not see the files if they are not in the same directory as the swf.  I have tried multiple options.  I can not have a drive letter involved as this is a mobile file which will be run off of a USB drive.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi there
I'm not sure what you are experiencing here. How exactly have you tried to path your links? If you know the "HTML Shorthand" of accessing files it should not be a problem. Captivate won't need to "see" the files. Certainly plopping all the files together is the simplest (and most often recommended) way of working, but as long as you know how to use what we call "Relative Addressing", things should work fine.
So if you want a structure like this:
    Captivate SWF Folder
    ** SomeSWF.SWF
    ** SomeSWF.HTM
    ** Standard.JS
And maybe you want a folder named PDFS that would make the structure look like this:
    Captivate SWF Folder
    ** SomeSWF.SWF
    ** SomeSWF.HTM
    ** Standard.JS
    ** PDFs
    **** SomePDF.PDF
The link inside Captivate would simply look like this:
    PDFS/SomePDF.PDF
Or maybe you have a folder named PDFS that you want at the same level as the Captivate SWF Folder so the structure looks like this:
    Captivate SWF Folder
    ** SomeSWF.SWF
    ** SomeSWF.HTM
    ** Standard.JS
    PDFs
    ** SomePDF.PDF
In that case the link inside Captivate would look like this:
    ../PDFS/SomePDF.PDF
Also, if you are testing on your local C drive, the links may not work because you need to asjust your Flash Player Global Security Settings and add the output folder as a trusted location.
Steps for doing that are at the link below:

  • Import Problem with FCP quicktime file.

    Hi,
I exported my 18 minute video with FCP quicktime (instead of quicktime conversion I did export quicktime video in FCP). When I try to add this video to DVD Studio Pro, The first thirty seconds of video import and all the sound imports but no video imports after that first 30 seconds.
Does anybody have any idea what this is?
    Thanks!

Sounds like a corrupt file. You should try opening it in QT and then saving it out with a different name if it works OK there. Be sure to make a self contained file, not a reference file.
However, you may find it better to export from FCP through to Compressor and create your MPEG2 files there before bringing them in to DVDSP. This is a better work flow for lots of reasons, ensures you use a dedicated encoder and releases DVDSP to concentrate on what it does best (which certainly isn't the encoding, IMO!)

  • How do I import Flash with 3-D into After Effects?

Every time I import a SWF file that has 3-D in it, into after effects the file doesn't work.
How do I make this happen?

Hi Mylenium, Thank you. I had actually tried exporting it as a png sequence before writing this, however, I screwed up and forgot After Effects Preview mode was set to 50% so I thought that the png sequence was horribly pixilated... My bad... You suggested that I go back and try it again and it worked excellently. Thanks.

  • Tp import fails with error "data files not transferred"

    Hi colleagues,
I am working on transport requests. I had issued out the <i>tp addtobuffer SIDKxxxx <sid>  pf=TP_DOMAIN_SID.PFL </i> command for a number of transport requests at OS level; but when i then try to do <i>tp import SIDKxxxxx <sid> client= u18 pf=TP_DOMAIN_sid.PFL</i>, i get this error: "Data files are not transfered</b>" in the QAS system. Everything works fine in PROD though. What could be the reason for this. I can't get it done within the application either.
    Your responses appreciated.

    Hi,
I guess you have individual transport directories. I f you have configured the Transport Domain and added the Other Two into the Domain and configured the Transport Route. You should be able to see the Some RFC Destinations in SM59.
    TMSADM@<SID>.<DOMAIN NAME>
    TMSSUP@<SID>.<DOMAIN NAME>
Please check the Test connection. of all these RFC Destination. If these fail check if you have firewall issues between the system stopping the communication on Port 33<Instance No>.
    Thanks,
    Tanuj
