Importing to different tablespace with no quota

Hi,
I am using Oracle 10.2.0.2.0 on Sun Solaris server.
I have received a export dump file of user "SUN"
The "SUN" user is using tablespace "SUN_DATA".
Here in my database, I have created a new tablespace "SUN_NEW_DATA"
and created a new user "SUN_NEW".
I have granted quota unlimited on SUN_NEW_DATA to "SUN_NEW" user.
I have not given any quota on "SUN_DATA" to "SUN_NEW" user.
Though my database is also having "SUN_DATA" tablespace which is being used by other users.
Now when I give the command :
imp sun_new/sun_new file=sun_exp.dmp log=sun_exp.log fromuser=sun touser=sun_new
I am seeing that all the tables are created in "SUN_DATA" tablespace.
Can someone explain me why the import have created objects in "SUN_DATA" tablespace though
the user "SUN_NEW" does not have any quota on that tablespace.
Thanks & Regards
Arun Tayal

And I think the DEFAULT TABLESPACE at the database level is defined as SUN_DATA.

  • Import to different tablespace

    Hi all..
    I created dump file in one database with tablespace1 in Oracle 10g XE using expdp
    and
    now i want to import that dump file in another database with different tablespace2 name.
    What is the option for this...?
    Thanks in advance

    Change the default tablespace of the user, under which the dump is to be imported, to a different tablespace.
    Once importing is done, you can restore the tablespace.

  • Importing excel files - problem with single quote

    When importing excel files using 1.5, I can't get data with single quotes (') imported.
    When I run the insert statement given in SQLPlus I get "ORA-01756: quoted string not properly terminated", which is different than the error that SQL Developer gives me (see below).
    Also, I have a numeric value shown without a thousands comma-separator in the XLS file that I'm trying to load into a varchar2 field. But, the insert statements have added a thousands comma-separator which I don't want.
    REM Error starting at line 1 in command:

    One last thing, TOAD gives a way to automap columns chosen from XLS to the columns in the database. It sure would be nice to have this functionality in SQL Developer.

    Did you consider both to be bugs (i.e., single quote issue and thousands comma separator issue)?

  • Can't import csv fields starting with double quotes but lack ending ones

    Hi all,
    When I'm trying to used external table to import a csv file, specified as using comma as delimiter optionally enclosed by double quotes, some records are rejected because a field in the record has starting double quotes, but without ending ones.
    Assume the customer really want these starting double quotes, how do I change my external table specification such that these starting double quotes are treated as part of the field data and can be successfully inserted into db?
    Many thanks.

    I have no access to Oracle during weekends, so nothing can be tested. So here it goes:
    Suggestion: DELIMITED BY '","' and of course omitt ENCLOSED BY '"'
    You will have to update each row of the rows just loaded setting the first_field to substr(first_field,2) and the last_field to substr(last_field,-2)
    If all the fields are not enclosed in double quotes (TRUE for strings and FALSE for numbers and dates) the situation (syntax diagrams allow two delimiters only) is somehow more complicated, anyway you can specify DELIMITED BY ',' and update all varchar2 fields in each row of the rows just loaded setting the varchar2_field to substr(varchar2_field,2,length(varchar2_field) - 2).
    Regards
    Etbin
    After posting I noticed it's difficult to distinguish between single and double quotes:
    the first DELIMITED BY should read {single quote){double quote}{comma}{double quote}{single quote)
    the ENCLOSED BY should read {single quote){double quote}{single quote)

  • IMPORT INTO A DIFFERENT TABLESPACE

    Hi All,
    When attempting to import a .dmp file into a user with different default tablespace errors IMP-00003 and ORA-00922 was raised, some objects were imported but the problem seems to arise when importing tables. Help will be greatly appreciated.

    Quote: apart from that you have to realize if the definition of your tables are poiting to a specific tablespace because if that is your case. You have to create that tablespace with quota for the new user and after move your tables from that tablespace.
    Not true, Import first attempts to create an object in it's specified tablespace. If it is unable to then it will create the object in the owners default tablespace.
    So buy changing a users default tablespace (with a quota) and removing the users quota from the old tablespace, you can actually change tablespaces on import.

  • Export Import with different tablespaces

    Does anyone know if there is a way to export from one database (creating a dmp file) and then importing into another database with different tablespaces? I have tried this and get this error:
    ORA 959. It complained that the tablespace doesnt exist (which it doesnt). Is there a way I can change the export or import parameters to avoid this and just use the default tablespaces?
    I may well be missing the point here so please feel free to tell me I am being a fool.

    I get error because not exist tablespace TOM
    2)I removed MAX's quota on the TOM tablespace in the new instance.

    but when I import I get alway the same error:

    I know That I must encrease tablespace TOM for avoid this error, but I must create 6 new users in 6 different tablespaces and I'd to increase tablespace TOM too much (how many GB?).
    how can I import schema to a different tablespace?
    Thanks
    Raf

    I don't understand why you cannot import TOM's scheme
    to new instance, because you say that you' ve TOM
    tablespace in the database.
    Check size of it, may be you need to increase size or
    you can TOM tablespace set autoextended.
    Also, you can set MAX tablespace is default in new database and set TOM tablespace is readonly.
    Then import cannot create object in TOM tablespace
    and create this in MAX tablespace.

  • How to import partitioned tables in different tablespace

    Hi everyone,
    I try to import the partitioned tables in different tablespace.
    Consider the following situation:
    I have a dump file which is created by using "Export" utility. Some data are in partitioned tables, some of them are in non-partitioned tables. Also, all tables are located in "MYTBS" tablesapce. However, I got error message when importing the data from partitioned tables. The error message is: tablespace 'MYTBS' does not exist.
    I just want to how I can solve this problem other than create 'MYTBS' tablespace for my new database.

  • Import of a tablespace using a tablespace different name

    Hi,
    i'm trying to import a transportable tablespace into the same database it was exported from, but using a different name; the import utility fails saying that it can't find the original tablespace.
    The parameters used during export and import are:
    exp 'sys/pwd@host as sysdba'
    transport_tablespace=yes
    tablespaces=test_tbs
    direct=yes
    triggers=no
    constraints=no
    buffer=100000
    file=test_tbs.dmp
    imp 'sys/pwd@host as sysdba'
    transport_tablespace=yes
    tablespaces=test_tbs
    file=test_tbs.dmp
    buffer=100000
    datafiles='test_tbs.dbf'
    Both tools are spawned as child processes of my application.
    Is there any way to import a tablespace with a new name or to rename the tablespace after import. Needless to say, that I can't predict the new name at export time.
    What I basically want to do, is to imitate the "Attach/Detach Database" feature of mssql.
    Thanks in advance
    Heiko

    You can't rename tablespace with transport_tablespace features. Read the piece of information extracted from the metalink note : 103013.1
    Transported tablespaces are plugged in in a read-only configuration, however the file header also stores the tablespace name, so any attempt to rename it would require an update to the file header. Similarly at unplug time there is a requirement that the tablespace is in read only mode and the same restrictions therefore apply - you can't 'RENAME' a tablespace, because you might only be taking a copy of the datafile.

  • SSIS importing comma delimited with double quote text qualifier - Works in VS - SQL Job ignores text qualifier and fails (truncation)

    I've created an SSIS package to import a comma delimited file (csv) with double quotes for a text qualifier ("). Some of the fields contain the delimiter inside the qualified text. An example row is:
    15,"Doe, John",IS2,Alabama
    In SSIS I've specified the text qualifier as ". The sample output in the connection manager looks great. The package runs perfectly from VS and when manually executed on the SSIS server itself. The problem comes when I schedule the package to run via SQL
    job. At this point the package ignores the text qualifier, and in doing so pushes half of a field into the next available column. But instead of having too many columns, it concatenates the last 2 columns ignoring the delimiter. For example (pipes are fields):
    15|"Doe| John"|IS2,Alabama
    So the failure happens when the last half of a field is too large to fit into the next available field. In the case above _John" is 6 characters where the IS2 field is char(3). This would cause a truncation failure, which is the error I receive from the
    job history.
    To further test this I created a failure flow in my data flow to capture the records failing to be pulled from the source csv. Out of ~5000 records, ~1200 are failing, and every one of the failures has a comma delimiter inside the quoted text with a 'split'
    length greater than the next ordinal field. The ones without the comma were inserted as normal and records where the split fit into the next ordinal column where also imported, with the last field being concatenated w/delimiter. Example records when selected
    from table:
    25|"Allan Percone Trucking"|GI6|California --Imported as intended
    36|"Renolds| J."|UI6,Colorado --Field position offset by 1 to right - Last field overloaded
    To further ensure this is the problem, I changed the csv file and flat file connection manager to pipe delimited, and sure enough every record makes it in perfectly from the SQL job execution.
    I've tried comma delimited on the following set ups. Each set up failed.
    SSIS Server 2008 R2 RTM
    DB Server 2008 RTM
    DB Compat 80
    SSIS Server 2008 R2 RTM
    DB Server 2008 R2 RTM
    DB Compat 80
    SSIS Server 2008 R2 RTM
    DB Server 2008 RTM
    DB Compat 100
    SSIS Server 2008 R2 RTM
    DB Server 2008 R2 RTM
    DB Compat 100
    Since a lot of our data comes in via comma delimited flat files, I really need a fix for this. If not I'll have to rebuild all my files when I import them to use pipe delimiters instaed of commas. I'd like to avoid the extra processing overhead if possible.
    Also, is this a known bug? If so can someone point me to the posting of said bug?
    Edit: I can't ask the vendor to change the format to pipe delimited because it comes from a federal government site.

    Just wanted to share my experience of this for anyone else since I wasted a morning on it today.
    I encountered the same problem where I could run the package fine on my machine but when I deployed to a server and ran the package via dtexec, the " delimeter was being replaced with _x0022_ and columns all slurped up together and overflowing columns/truncating
    data etc.
    Since I didn't want to manually hack the DTS XML and can't install updates, the solution I used was to set an expression on the textdelimiter field of the flat file connection with the value "\"" (a double quote). That way, even if the one stored in XML
    gets bodged somewhere along the way, it is overridden with the correct value at run time. The package works fine everywhere now.

  • How can I import schema to a different tablespace in a new database?

    Hi,
    I want to transport a schema "abc", which is on 'USERS" tablespace in the old database, to a new database using Data Pump. But on the new server, I want it on a different tablespace, say "TEST". How can I do that? I tried the following but it does not work:
    1. Create a user "abc" on new database, assign "TEST" as its default tablespace;
    2. use impdp to import the dmp file;
    I found that on the new server, the imported tables are still on the "USERS" tablespace.
    Can anyone tell me how to do it? thanks a lot.

    Use the REMAP_TABLESPACE option:
    REMAP_TABLESPACE = source_tablespace:target_tablespace

  • Database Tablespaces with different block sizes...

    Hi ,
    What are the pros and cons of setting different block sizes to tablespaces, and where may be this useful???

    generally speaking tablespaces with different block sizes than the db standard are for transportable tablespaces only.
    however,
    Burleson will tell you to micromanage your memory allocations with multiple block sized tablespaces and various keep/recycle caches.
    http://www.dbazine.com/oracle/or-articles/burleson2
    I think its overkill and you can most likely get performance improvements from looking at other things such as the SQL your applications are running against the db. My rule of thumb is that 70% of your performance improvements are going to come from sql tuning. You can focus on the other 30% when the vast majority of your queries use 5 LIO per row per join. (Milsap's ratio not mine)

  • Migrating schemas - Different tablespace names on source and destination

    Hi,
    I am migrating database schemas with exp/imp from 8i on Solaris to 9i on Linux and also from one 9i on Linux to another 9i on another Linux machine.
    The tablespaces and schemas (empty) already exist in the destination, so the schemas now need to be filled using imp. However, the default tablespace of the schemas have a different name in the source than in the destination. Is this going to cause errors during the import?
    Thanks.

    Not at all, i think. Just verify that the source tablespace is not present in the destination database. If you have a tablespace with the same name like the source, put the user quota to zero, so imp will switch to the default tablespace.
