In-App Browsing

I've noticed a few of my apps have easy access to sites like YouTube and Google. Is in-app browsing saved to my phones default web browser or can this be accessed from Settings?

I find this feature disappointing. When can we expect this to work for iPhone? It worked with previous versions, correct? Does this have something to do with Facebook's update and in-app-browsing through their app or is this related to a v29 update?

BUG : url with an anchor don't open the in-app browser

When you make to button to open a local url, it doesn't work if the url has an anchor tag.
Exemple :
HTMLResources/test.html -> open the file test.html with the in-app browser
HTMLResources/test.html#test -> don't open the in-app browser
It is a valid url, it should open it.

That's a good idea (leaving it plugged in all the time) aside from the fact that I'm cheap as heck. Being poor has something to do with it since I'm a grad student. When I'm not using my printer, can opener, toaster, etc. I unplug them or turn them off. Because of this, during the summer I'm able to have electric bills under 20 dollars a month for my apt. I used to even turn of my router every night when I wasn't using it but got fed up with resetting it every time. I also don't use air conditioning and live in KY (my asthmatic lungs react better to heat with humidity than dryness, and to save $). I know - I'm completely different than the norm, but I get by with my quirks. How much do you think it would cost me extra a year to leave my computer plugged in and "sleeping" every night?
If I go into itunes with the preferences, could I make it so itunes never looks for updates? Thanks again.

In-App Browser Crashing

The in-app Browser in my DPS apps has been crashing for a while now. When I tap on a Go To URL button the browser will open and close within the second. This is very frustrating for myself and the readers because I can't change the URLs I need to go to. It has been happening a lot with Twitter (even though I am using the mobile.twitter URL) Facebook, and company websites.
All my apps are v29, and it is happening on my iPad2 and iPad3.
Has anyone else come across this problem or know how to fix it?

In some cases a memory spike will force the viewer to close the in-app web view in order to avoid a shutdown of the entire application. That's very likely what is happening.
For our next release we've made some changes to try and avoid this.

Open an HTML stack's link in in-app browser

Hello all,
Here's the scenario: One of our advertisers has created an ad using Hype. We've loaded the ad and all works well except for the only link on the page. Despite the fact that the link opens in a new window on a traditional web browser, it opens within the page of our HTML stack.
Is there a way to force links to open using the in-app browser instead of within the stack?

Web content overlay doesn't always open in the in-app browser

We are using a web content overlay in a small frame to show a series of social media share buttons. It works beautifully most of the time - when the user taps the img, the in-app browser slides up from the bottom and the share page is ready to go. Sometimes though, for no apparent reason, the share page loads inside our tiny 200x50px frame. Here's a simplified sample of the code from our index.html file that we link to:

Here's some examples of the web overlay opening inside the small frame instead of the browser:
It seems like the first time we try the share button from a new article, it loads in the frame instead of the in-app browser, but every time after it behaves correctly. Is there any way to prevent this?

I've had this problem too. Here's a solution from my notes:

Edge Animate ad banner to open up a link in the in app browser window of Adobe Content Viewer

Hi I've got an adobe edge animate banner that animates and looks good. But I need it to be able to open a link (once the banner has been tapped on) in the Adobe Content Viewer app's in app browser window. Presently it only opens up within the 300x600 box that the ad is in.

Can you post your current link code?
It sounds like you are using the "_self" property which is opening it up inside the banner.
Try using window.open("yourlink", "_blank");

Safari vs in-app-browser performance

I have heard that performance using in app browsing vs using safari on an ios device is much slower. Are there any signifant tests that can proove this?
In cases where a webpage is using gzip to compress webcontent, are there any known performance issues for in-app-browsing?

Open Local HTML file in app browser?

Hi,
We have a question, we would like to link to a local HTML file form within a DPS article, we need the HTML file to open up in the in-app browser; we cannot use a web content overlay for this particular feature. We are able to achieve this easily with content from an online source by creating a Go To URL link with the website in the URL section.
Can this be done form the HTML resource folder and can this be tested in the adobe content viewer?
Or even better can we easily link to a local folder using the Go TO URL with a local file path? If so what would this be?

Yes, you can open an HTML file in an in-app browser by adding the HTML file to the HTMLResources.zip. Create a button with a Go To URL action that looks something like this:
HTMLResources/HTML_Local/index.html
Make sure that you create your HTMLResources.zip file properly and upload it to the folder. You can test this in the Adobe Content Viewer on either the iPad or the Desktop as long as you preview the folio (not the article or layout).
Basically, you use the same technique to link to the HTML file that you use to link to PDF files. For details, see the DPS Tips app > Advanced Overlays > Linking to PDF Files.

Android in-app browser view the HTMLResources's Page Problem.

Dear All,
I am created the web content overlays, This page have the hyperlink to open the main page (store in HTMLResources) via in-app browser.
The main page included iframe service page. I am fine running in IOS Content Viewer.
But When I am put this folio in the Android Content Viewer, The in-app browser just display when iframe service page only.
I try put the HTMLResources's Web Page in the web server, hyperlink to open the main page (store in web server) via in-app browser.
The android in-app browser can display the main page with iframe service page. Anyone know how to fix it problem ?

APP Browser so slow...

I am experiencing a problem... it has long time, but now is insupportable.
NAL in Windows 98 are so slow, in average 4,5 min to open.
We use ZfD 4.0.1, using NAL in APP Browser mode.
Some IDEA ? it's only in Windows 98 workstation. Windows XP it's so quick!

I don't disagree that excluding the TEMP directory could be of concern.
I dont think ZEN can be changed to use another directory.
Primarily ZEN places ICO files in theis directory.
Therefore it may be possible to try and exclude all ICO files from being
scanned.
I'm don't believe there are cases of ICO files containing viruses, and if
there are the cases would be quite rare.

"save picture" from within in-app browser

Hi,
we’d like to create a "download wallpaper section" in one of our publications. For this we have created a button that opens a local html page with the picture (located in HTMLResources). Here we would like to use the standard "save picture" function in iOS (see screenshot).
Per default DPS does not allow to open the link via iPad-Safari (when using HTMLResources:index.html), it only opens in the in-app browser which seemingly does not offer the "save picture" option. (only copy)
Is there a way to get the picture from the (local) html page into the iOS pictures section?

I think my question was a bit clumsy...
Let me put it this way: is there a way to open an html (that is located in the HTMLResources) in Safari?

How can I disable in-app browsing?

I want to completely disable internet browsing on an iPhone. I've deleted Safari under Restrictions and also deleted the App Store so new browsers can't be downloaded. The problem is there are still a couple third-party apps that have their own browsers. Browsing is not the main part of these apps, they just link to things like Facebook and Twitter and from there you can reach any website. I want to keep these apps but block their ability to browse.
How can I block any third-party app from being able to reach the internet?

Are you talking about Apple App Store purchases? Just go to the App Store, and on the quick links on the right side of the screen, if it says 'Welcome YourUserID', then click on that and click sign out. That way, in order to use the App Store to do anything, your child will need your apple ID password.

Looking for App - Browse my photos on my PC

Hope this is a good place to ask, if not sorry!
I have about 50,000 photos on my PC (sorry guys, no MAC at the moment) and my ideal App would allow me to browse them via a share of some kind. When/if I come across a "keeper" photo I'd like to be able to easily transfer it locally to the iPad right from the viewer.

There are many apps that allow you to browse a local computer via wifi. I just checked by FileBrowser and AirSharing HD and I can access photos but I have to open each photo to view it, no thumbnails are shown. I can then import/copyt to the iPad any photo )or file) that i wich.

Phone Gap In App Browser Javascript

I am creating a IOS iPad App version of my elearning course using the Captivate 7. I am also using Phone Gap's Cordova's InAppBrowser javascript to open links in the IOS.
in Captivate 7 I am using a button and the execute Javascript action below to open links.
I have built and tested the the app using the Captivate App Packager and Phone Gap Build and it works well.
When the button is selected to view the external PDF a new IOS native screen apears and the user can see the PDF the user can also close the resource and go back to the app by selecting the "Done" button.
If the user then opens that same pdf again then closes it, it jumps to the next slide in the captivate course this only happens the secound time the users selects the same button to veiw the PDF resource.
How can I stop this from happening? Is there same sort of confliction with other javescript being used on the slide? I am using the pause function on buttons to stop it continuing to the next slide as well.

App / Browser Support for iPad bluetooth keyboard

I recently purchased the Zagg Slim Book (a bluetooth keyboard case) for my iPad air 2.
The main reason I bought this was so that I could use cloud IDE (code editors) such as cloud9 and code anywhere.
However,
With these websites and other similar websites, i cannot use the arrow keys and on some websites I cannot even type at all within the site.
I used a keyboard checker website to see if it recognized my key presses, and while I was able to type, it said I was not pressing anything.
- Note: I tried 5 different browsers including safari.
This leads me to believe that the keyboard is not doing the typing directly; rather, it must be handing the key presses off to the iPad which handles the output in some special way.
So,
Can someone confirm what I am assuming?
I need to know how a bluetooth ipad keyboard is different than a normal keyboard so that I can know which one (if any) I should buy in order to use it within websites.
- is it up to the keyboard manufacturers to determine how the output works?
- Does apple have some sort of standard or api which manufacturers use to make their keyboard?
- is there some sort of keyboard settings that I can change in the iPad settings that will change the output type?
Sorry if this belongs in developer section, I am hoping this is the right place.

However, why do apps work but websites do not?
