In band management - how

Hello,
We have a dual fabric SAN spanning two locations.
All directors are MDS9513
Today we had a short outage of the LAN on the remote site.
Directors at the remote site could not be accessed via Fabric Manager or CLI.
I was in the believe that our SAN was configured with <in band> management and that the SNMP traffic then goes through the FC ISL's for remote access.
I read in the CLI fundamentals manual that <out of band> and <in band> management are setup in VSAN 1 during installation at the console prompts.
How can I check that <in band> management is properly setup?
Apparantly it does not work now and a new/proper install is required (@ next firmware upgrade - reboot)

I performed the following steps on each of our switches in our environment to have a back-end network in case of a LAN outage:
The way I've done this is create interfaces on VSAN1 on all of our switches
interface vsan 1
ip address 192.168.150.X
no shut
Then would create a default route for that network:
ip route 192.168.150.0 255.255.255.0 interface vsan 1
I'm not sure the above step was necessary because I then would turn on ip routing:
ip routing
So as long as vsan 1 in the case is merged between the switches you need to get to you should be able to telnet from one switch to another at anytime. You can also use fabric manager and see the switches using this back-end network.
Just in case:
Should probably add that 192.168.150.0 network isn't being used anywhere else in our environment.

Just one thing more, When you configure AD for AMT you have to set a OU. but if you have computers in two ou, I cant see how I can configure that?

Question about creating Certificates for Out of Band management

I would like to use out of band management for supporting clients in remote offices. I am following the instructions at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/230dfec0-bddb-4429-a5db-30020e881f1e#BKMK_AMT2008_cm2012 in the "Deploying Certificates
for AMT" section. It says:
If you cannot complete steps 18 or 19, check that you are using the Enterprise Edition of Windows Server 2008. Although you can configure templates with Windows Server Standard Edition and Certificate Services, you cannot deploy certificates using modified
certificate templates unless you are using the Enterprise Edition of Windows Server 2008.
My Certificate Authority server is Server 2008R2 Standard. When I right click on Certificate Templates -> New -> Certificate Template to Issue, I do not see the ConfigMgr AMT Provisioning and ConfigMgr AMT Web Server Certificates. I know
the box says 2008 Standard isn't supported, but I am using 2008R2 Standard, not 2008. Why am I not able to see either certificate. If it is because I am using the Standard Edition, than how can I create the certificates needed? Upgrading
to Enterprise is not an available solution (cost reasons). Does this mean that OOB management certificate creation is not supported on Server 2008R2 Standard, and so I will not be able to use ConfigMgr 2012 SP1 for out of band management because I am
unable to generate the required certificates?

Yes, I know this is an old post, but I’m trying to clean them up. Did you solve this problem, if so what was the solution?
In order to use the cert template, you must use an Enterprise version of Windows. Only the Enterprise (or datacenter) version have the right version of the Certificate server.

Lenovo vPro Out-of-band Management

I have a few Lenovo T430s here and I'm testing out the use of some of the Out-of-Band management features supported by AMT/vPro. I'm using SCCM 2012. Specifically I'm trying to figure out how to collect or change BIOS settings while it's off and if I can wipe
the hard drive while the system is off. If I could also look into battery health that would nice too. Any ideas?
If not, are there any suggestions for how to do this for multiple number of devices while on?
What do people usually use to do for this kind of thing? Are these tasks that requires a lot of background work to make happen in band?

If you want to wipe the disk, you may boot from a remote image and format the disk.
If you want to do it in band to change the BIOS settings, I think it needs the Motherboard's support, some motherboards have a commend tool that can change BIOS settings in band. If your motherboard has, distribute it as software package or within script.

Data center out-of-band management network

Would "Cisco Prime Data Center Network Manager" be classed as an out-of-band management tool that I could use on a 2 tier data centre?
If not what solutions could I have for a data center that has a bunch of racks with servers and switches in that connect to an aggregation switch?

My take on "out-of-band" depends not so much on the tool but rather on how it accesses the managed devices.
Most Cisco data center devices have a management port that is independent of the data plane (separate communications processor, separate VRF).
If you communicate to that port using a system and via a network not co-mingled with your user traffic, then you have an out-of-band management tool.

SCCM out of band management

SCCM has out of band managment ability, and it has a check box:
"Enable BIOS password bypass for power on and restart command"
I am not sure the meaning of BIOS passwrod since we could set both power on password and hdd password in BIOS.

Vdc out of band management

I saw this digram from Cisco,but no configuration example. Right now I have nexus 7010 with sup 2 version 6.2.2. I could not assign the interface mgmt 0 to the different VDC. Do anyone do out of band management for VDCs? or can anyone let me know how could I configure the out of band management for vdc?

Thanks for your reply. I switch to the vdc and I did not find the "int mgmt0" in these VDCs, the mgmt0 only exists in the system VDC. In this case, I do not know how to configure the seperatt IP for every context. Could you share with me more details for the configuration?

Out OF band Management options 2014

Hi i remember in early days we use to install a 2610 XM along with 16 port NM-16A with CAB-OCTAL-ASYNC cable for out of band management of routers and switches. Since 2610 XM series is obselete, what is latest option for this setup? 2610 XM replaced by 2911 , and i believe 2911 dont support NM-16a modules, so how to console router remotely now? what setup your guys are using now a days? any suggestions would be helpful.

User Management - how can we configure "Access Requests" so that Managers can submit Additional Access Requests, or Initial Access Requests on behalf of employee?

Giving access to User Management to users is not an option.
What I would like is the scenario below - is this achievable?
When employee goes to iProcurement > Preferences > Access Requests > Request Access | they can submit an access request on behalf of themselves.
Would like an option where a manager, navigates to same UI as above, has option to choose a subordinate, and request additional access on their behalf
The table UMX_REG_REQUESTS has columns REQUESTED_FOR_USER_ID & REQUESTED_BY_USER_ID - so it seems they don't have to be same person (manager can submit request on behalf of an employee)

Well, all I can tell you is that if your file is an m4a with chapter markers, those markers having suitably sized images attached, and you drag it into the Music area of iTunes (so that it appears as a song) in List view, when you play it and then command-click on the small image in the header (next to the progress bar) you should see your embedded images.
If this isn't happening the best place to ask would be in the GarageBand forum: my own experience of GB is rather out of date and in any case I've never used it for podcasting.

One of the intiatives is to leverage the 'Corporate Group' field in Vendor Master for getting the consolidated spend visibility at the corporate group level of vendors. So far this field wasn't been used to effect. I can update it manually, but the question remains is how do I do with the change management of the corporate group of large vendor base in the scenario of everhappening Mergers and Acquisitions. Are there any alternatives anybody can suggest ? (Like linking D&B numbers etc)

Let me elaborate the purpose of using this field. I want to have a consolidated spend visibility across a corporate group which has multiple vendor codes. Its difficult everytime to group the spends of these vendors manually especially when the number of vendors are too high. Also sometimes the names of vendor companies may not indicate that these are from same corporate group but in fact they could be. In order to have the reports generated on corporate groups, I must maintain this field in vendor master or a Z table. But the problem here is, it should be possible to update this field as and when there are any mergers or acquisitions at vendor side and the corporate group of a particular vendor gets changed due to this. So this has to be effected in vendor master or Z-table automatically. I do know that there are certain agencies like Dunn & Brad (DNB) which provide possibly the details on corporate group of a company but its not fully effective for Indian Vendors as its not mandatory on them to have DNB number & also its a disconnected process and I was looking to connect it seamlessly to Corporate Group field so that I need not bother to update these things manually everytime. I also wanted to explore various possibilities of doing this.
I hope I have spelled it out correctly.

I am trying to configure in-band management for storagetek array Sun Storage F5100 from T5440 server on Solaris 10.

As per sun documentation i ran the below commands, but still i am getting above error.
# setenv LD_LIBRARY_PATH /opt/SMgr/agent
# java -classpath /opt/SMgr/agent/SMagent.jar devmgr.versioned.agent.DeviceIdentifier | grep "Volume Access"
But any output with above commands.

Make sure the mapping to Access Group has not been deleted.
Use the command /opt/SUNWsefms/bin/lsscs list -a array mappingYou must see samething like
Volume:Access LUN: 31mapped.via mapped.via.default.groupmapped.target.type mapped.via.default.group Permission: Read Only
...If you don't see this recreate mapping
/opt/SUNWsefms/bin/lsscs map -a array -l 31 volume Accessand restart agent
/etc/init.d/SMagent start
