sampling the image?

  • Color Range command in Photoshop CS6 13.0.4 no longer works after update

    I just updated to 13.0.4 at the end of last week.  Today I went to use the Color Range command and it will not select any colors.  The Eyedropper tool works fine.  Adjusting the fuzziness and other options doesn't make a difference.  Nor does selecting multiple instances of a color to add to the selection.  Since I use this command regularly,  I feel confident that it is a bug with the update and I would love to hear of any possible fixes.  Or, is it possible to downgrade back to 13.0.3?  I didn't realize how much I used this and it's a major inconvenience.

    I feel confident that it is a bug with the update and I would love to hear of any possible fixes.
    Some people, when encountering unexpected behaviour in Photoshop, seem overly prone to use the term »bug«.
    Have you performed the usual trouble-shooting routines (trashing prefs by keeping command-alt-shift/ctrl-alt-shift pressed while starting Photoshop after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed, 3rd party plug-ins deactivation, system maintenance, cleaning caches, font validation, etc.)?
    Could you please post a screenshot with the pertinent Panels and Dialogs visible?

    The Color Range command is the best way to make a color-based selection. Build and adjust your mask and then use it to apply localized changes to your image.

    I cannot find Color Range under Select.Why isn't it there? Please help.

  • New Layer without dialog box on CS5.1 ???

    I'm sure this question must have been asked somewhere before now but I haven't had much finding the answer...
    In past versions I think this was do-able with something like Cmd + Opt + Shift + N but this plain ain't happening with CS 5.1 anyone got any idea how this is mapped these days? One feature that continues to annoy me with Photoshop is that this is "on by default" - a nuisance if you are working with multiple layered pieces....
    Much prefer this to be off by default and accessible through the layer palette instead...

    No, it is not solved which is why I have not marked it so and indeed which is why I asked the question.
    If you or someone who knows the actual shourtcut would be kind enough to share the correct shortcut for what I wan't to do then I will test it and be able to conferm,,, but indeed the handbags are still very much out:
    As mentioned in CS5 on the other thread it was simply sufficient to use the command key to summon up the Color picker Hud... in 5.1 however its Ctrl + Cmd + Opt even with hyperdock off... Why not makee it CMD + QWEERTMNBBVGH5478  + CMD (Right) just to see how patient or dextrous the user really is????
    Inconsistent...
    Cmd + **** + N by default brings up a New Layer with dialog.... but what brings up New Layer without? I have in any case remapped F2 to the former and I think everyone and their Uncle by now know and are used to Cmd (Ctrl) + X. C and V for clipboard operations... so repetition on the F keys is lame... Better used as Power Shortcuts imo to flip, duplicate and create new layers imo - grea,t except for this dialog box every time you summon up a new layer!....

  • Illustrator CS2 Start up - Convert color mode dialog box

    Using Illustrator CS2, on opening, the usual loading prescreen appears, after which a dialog box appears showing the following text
    "Convert Color Mode"
    "The document contains objects using both CMYK and RGB color modes. Illustrator allow only one color mode per document. Which color mode would you like to use? (RGB and CMYK appear as option boxes)"
    This dialog box appears every time I open Illustrator, even though I'm not actually opening a document.
    I've tried adjusting the Color Settings (Edit> Color Settings) but this hasn't affected the dialog box appearing.
    I've checked all the usual sources of help but can't identify any cures.
    I want to be able to change this so the dialog box no longer appears as it tends to "hide" behind all the other applications I have open at the time and can be difficult to get to, meaning opening Illustrator is a 5 minute battle.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    You haven't messed with the startup .ai files have you?
    You might try deleting the ai prefs file (see FAQ), though that might be a reach in this case.

  • Turn off save dialog box when the close command is executed

    I would like to set the default value of the save dialog box to No when my users close my form, so they do not have to manual answer this question.  Is it possible to do this or is there a commmand I can place in docClose to tell the form to close without saving?
    Thanks
    -Anne

    The Downloads folder defined in Mail/Prefs/General is just to temporarily store decoded attachments.
    The Save dialog is available by pressing *and holding* the Save lozenge button next to the attachment(s) in the message header header, or right-clicking/save attachment on files visible in the message body.
    (Having to click and hold the save button to get something useful is extremely bizarre, and IMO broken)
    You can also drag and drop items from the message to a Finder window or whatever.

  • Print - color management dialog box - how to print

    I am a bit confused
    with the print CS5 color management settings...
    When printing on my HP Design Jet 90 I select I click "print settings in the CS5 print dialog and select "Application Managed Color"  in the prinder driver.
    However the PS print dialog has additional settings on right side under the Color Management.
    I select Photoshop manages colors in the Color Handling drop down to make it consistent with the printer driver selection.
    However, I amn not sure what to have under the printer prifile drop down. I tried different options and they change how the picture is printed and this dialog was not as complex in CS4 so I am nont sure what selections to make in order to have the PS manage color. and select everything automatically.
    Thanks for your help.

    Most things that I have read say to let your printer manage colors.
    A while back I tested that.  Doesn't turn out to be the best strategy in every case: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3421168#3421168
    In my own case, with an (old) HP 932c Deskjet, the printer wants to see the sRGB profile, so that's what I have to put when I choose Photoshop Manages Colors.

  • The Video check box in the Import Settings is greyed out, what have I done?

    I am using a Sony Handycam HDR-SR5E with final cut pro (v7.0l). When logging and transferring my recent files I found i only imported the sound. So returning to the log and transfer window, and checking on the import settings i notice the check boxes are grayed out and the video box is unchecked.
    I have no idea what I have done, some of the files will allow me to import video, but the files i really need won't. Just retested the camera and the file i just recorded will allow me to import the video. Any ideas, i want to avoid making the same mistake again and ideally would like to get the video out of the camera.

    Deleting FCP Preferences:
    Open a Finder window. Set the view mode to columns:
    Click the house icon that has your name next to it.
    Click the folder "Library" in the next column.
    Find and click the folder "Preferences" in the next column.
    Find and click the folder "Final Cut Pro User Data" in the next column.
    Move the files "Final Cut Pro 6.0 Prefs", "Final Cut Pro Obj Cache" and "Final Cut Pro Prof Cache" to the Trash and empty it.
    When you have a stable set of preference files, download [Preference Manager|http://www.digitalrebellion.com/pref_man.htm] to back them up.

  • CS5: Layer Link icon greyed out.

    Hi,
    For some reason the "Link" icon at the bottom of the Layers palette is greyed out, and in the "right click" Options on any of the Layers have the "Link Layers" option greyed out.
    No doubt this is due to some simple  brain fade misconfiguration on my part, but I haven't figured it out yet
    Regards,
    Leigh

    Never mind.  I figured it out. It was brain fade!

  • Color Range doesn't work correctly with latest update

    as the title suggests, I'm having difficulty using the color range tool properly. It worked perfect just before the most recent update (13.1) and now works very strangely.
    It seems to select whatever color it feels like except the one I need. And then it is very very selective if it will even select anything at all. I'm not sure how else to explain this so it is clearer and easier to be understood. I will post the System Info from Photoshop below.

    Possibly you are missing something in the way you apply this command. Here's how I use it to select patchy clouds with ragged edges and continuously varying shades of gray:
    Select the eyedropper tool on the Toolbar and on the options bar set the sample size to 3x3.
    Activate the Color Range command. Activate the "selection" radio button and choose "none" in the selection preview. In the "select" box, choose "sampled colors".
    Set a trial fuzziness of,say,50. Click with the eyedropper on a point in the midst of the color you want to select. That's your "base" color.
    Then switch to the "Color Added" (plus) eyedropper, holding the left mouse button down while dragging it over areas deviating from the base color but which you want included.
    If there are non-contiguous areas with still different colors you also want to include, release the mouse and move the cursor to those areas before dragging again.
    All the while, keep an eye on the dialog box display which shows what you've selected, albeit crudely. If you pick up unwanted colors, switch to the "subtract from sample" (minus) eyedropper and drag it over those areas.
    When you think you've got it about right, experiment with the fuzziness slider to see if you can improve things by increasing or decreasing fuzziness.
    Don't re-use the plain eyedropper unless you want to start all over again. Optionally, instead of switching among the 3 eyedroppers, you can activate only the plain eyedropper but use it with SHIFT to add or ALT to subtract.

  • Color Range doesn't work properly in CS3

    Hi there,
    I have a problem with CS3. Since a few weeks I can't use properly "Colour Range" feature.
    Especially for bright colour the Colour Range doesn't select what I want to select. For example I want to select a bright cloud and can't select it with Colour Range. Of course I checked if there is any information or I have a burn area.
    I use several different setting but I still have the problem.
    I used 8/16 bit, Adobe RGB/sRGB
    At Colour Range I use:
    - Sampled colours
    - Selection
    - Fuzziness: how much I need it
    - Selection preview: None
    I need help...
    Thanks

  • Color Range Selection using Lab values

    Is there a way to select pixels in Photoshop based on given Lab values? I am using Select --> Color Range with a specified "fuzziness" threshold, but I'd rather make the selection based on specific Lab values instead of random pixels that I choose with my eye dropper. Is there a way to do this in Photoshop, or does anyone know of a plug-in that might do this?
    Also, if I end up having to use the basic Color Range tool, I'd like to know what "fuzziness" means. I understand what it does (selects more or less colors based on the threshold around the point you choose with your eyedropper), but what is that based on? A color difference (delta E) value around that point maybe?
    I am using Photoshop CS3 v10.0 on a Windows XP machine.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks, Ellen

    It may be helpful to compare the Color Range command with the Magic Wand Tool. A Magic Wand "selection" is 100% opaque and all pixels outside its tolerannce have zero opacity. So the selected pixels are either totally selected or totally unselected. There is no partial selection.
    Not so with the Color Range command. The pixel clicked establishes the "base" color. Whereever that exact color occurs in the image, it is totally selected (100% opaque). The degree to which other pixels are selected (their opacity) depends on the Fuzziness setting.
    At zero Fuzziness, all pixels other than those with the base color are totally unselected (zero opacity). As the Fuzziness setting increases, pixels with values other than the base value begin to be selected, but not 100%. There is a bell-shaped (Gaussian) curve of opacity centered on the base value and dinminishing on either side of it.
    The breadth of the Gaussian curve (let's define that as the color value difference between 50% opacity on the left and 50% opacity on the right is directly proportional (not equal to) the Fuzziness. Double the Fuzziness and you double the breadth. Marching ants appear at the 50% opacity point. But be careful interpreting this because with the Magic Wand, for example, the 50% opacity point occurs at the same point as zero and 100%, there being no gradation of opacity at the edge of a Magic Wand selection.
    You need to be aware also that the Color Range command operates in each color channel and the deviation from base value is determined by the most restrictive of the three channels. If a pixel is within Fuzziness limits for one channel but not another, it doesn't pass muster. And, yes, CR uses Lab colors, but you need not be in Lab mode.

  • Move an application "pop-up" (dialog box) with keyboard possible?

    Is there a way to move an application's pop up (dialog box) with a keyboard command/shortcut? I had a situation where I was not connected to my 2nd monitor and an application popup box was opening on that 2nd (*not connected*) monitor.
    I hate to say this; but on a PeeCee, a user can move a window via the keyboard. Is this possible on a Mac? Thanks!

    no, it's not possible on a mac. if the popup open on the other monitor connect the second monitor and move the popup with a mouse. it should open on the main monitor form now on.
    If you don't have a second monitor at all do the following.
    1) goto System Prefs - universal access - enable access for assistive devices.
    Paste the following into Script Editor and press run. This will move all offscreen windows currently open on the second monitor to the main screen.
    <pre style="

  • Print html file without seeing a print dialog box

    i need to script an action that would allow a user to print a sparcly formated html file to a printer while bypassing the normal print dialog box.
    the unix lpr command seems like it might work, but the man page only mentions PS and txt files.
    Ultimately i'd want to trigger the print action from a php script, but it could be a folder action also.
    Does anyone have any suggestions or point me in the right direction.

    lp is the right command to use but you may need to convert the html file in PDF format before printing it. Just test it. Also type man lp to see more options.
    enscript is a nice utility that may help you. man enscript for more.

  • Displaying Japaneese character in SaveAs Dialog box

    Hi,
    I have a problem with displaying japanese file name in 'save as' dialog box.
    I have a page that lets user to download a file. On downloading a file , the 'save as' dialog box opens up with the file name. The file name is passed to the dialog box by setting the content-disposition as given below in the jsp
    response.setHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment;filename=" + strFileName);
    The file name string is encoded in japanese EUC-JP charset. The page content-type is also set to EUC-JP. The browser's
    encoding charset is set to EUC-JP. And also I have tried with different Charcter Encodings which Support Japanese like SJIS , Cp943C,UniCodeBig ,UniCodeLittle.
    But nothing worked out.But english FileNames are coming correctly in the FileSave Window
    but... when the dialog box opens up, the file name turns out to be junk even though the file name passed to it is a correct EUC-JP encoded string.
    I guess this is becos the 'save as' dialog box takes some default browser values...
    Here is the Code Used
    byte[] barrFile = (byte[])
    lhashToViewBean.get("ATTACHMENT_FILE");
    byte[] bFileName=lsFileName.getBytes();
    String lsNewFileName=new
    String(bFileName,"JISAutoDetect");
    goWebUtility.writeDebug("NEW2 SAIKRIS FILE NAME
    AFTER ENCODING in FILE DOWNLOAD ",">>>>>"+lsNewFileName.trim()+"<<<<<");
    res.setContentType ("application/octet-stream
    ;charset=JISAutoDetect");
    res.setContentLength ((int )barrFile.length) ;
    res.setHeader
    res.setLocale(Locale.JAPANESE);
    BufferedOutputStream buffFileStream = new
    BufferedOutputStream (res.getOutputStream ());
    buffFileStream.write (barrFile) ;
    buffFileStream.flush ();
    buffFileStream.close ();
    Pls, can someone suggest a solution to this problem.
    Thanks.
    Rgds
    Yoonus

    Hi,
    Iam the author of the post.
    I have got the solution.
    After getting the file name from Database the Japaneese String(lsFileName) is encoded using "UTF8" encoding method of java.net.URLEncoder.encode(String lsFileName,String encType) of JDK 1.4
    U can get the JDK1.4 URLEncoder class from
    http://wwws.sun.com/software/java2/download.html . Here you get the entire code for JDK1.4
    Hope this helps.I get all the duke Dollars for myself :-)
