In Dreamweaver CS4, can't get sidebar background to expand to 100%

I'm using the standard Dreamweaver-CS4-generated template for a fixed-width 2-column page (i.e., left menu column and main column) with a header and footer. This is the "2 column fixed, right sidebar, header and  footer."
I'd like to have an overall body background (x,y repeated - that seems easy to do) and a left menu column repeated (x,y repeated ).  Alas, the comments that are generated with the template imply that you just can't do that.  I've tried all sorts of height=100% conbinations, but they don't seem to work.
Any ideas?

Unlike table columns, CSS columns don't communicate with each other.  The height of a division is determined by how much content is inside it.  And that value may be longer or shorter than adjacent columns.
TO CREATE EQUAL HEIGHT CSS COLUMNS:
Option 1. Start with an Equal Height CSS Layout
http://matthewjamestaylor.com/blog/equal-height-columns-cross-browser-css-no-hacks
Option 2. Faux Columns (repeating background image).  The easiest method.

Option 3. JavaScript -- may not work in all layouts.

    Brother, when I am rendering any 3D text in photoshop, then it shows white backgroung instead of Gray.
    See White backhround is of mine and gray is on tutorials.

  • Can't get Transparent background in Adobe Flash Professional CS4

    I'm wanting to create a moving object that will be exported into a tv commercial.
    Object has already been created in Adobe Illustrator, and now will be dropped into flash for adding movement.
    The destination commercial will be created in Sony Vegas, with the settings of (Australian) PAL television (25 fps, 576x720 pixels, lower field first).
    Thus keeping it simple, I want to set Adobe flash with the same output format, meaning that the canvas will have to be 576x720 pixels at 25 fps.  So far this seems to have worked okay.
    Now I'm wanting to get rid of the canvas colour, just like I have here in this photoshop screen shot.
    Judging by the colour palette in Flash Professional, it looks like it can't be done.  I've checked "transparent palette" through yahoo and google, and had no results.  The adobe documentation only details how to remove a background in Photoshop.
    Can someone please inform me how to get transparent background in Adobe Flash Professional CS4.  Thanks

    As far as I know there is no option to set up a file with a transparent background in design mode.  A transparent background is normally realized in the embedding code of an html web page that displays the Flash file (using wmode="transparent" as a parameter).

  • Can I get different background colors on menu items?

    I've been trying to get different background colors on my menu (Quick launch) items for a while, without success. What I want is the even numbered items (the second, fourth, sixth...) to have a different background color than the uneven ones (first, third,
    fifth...).
    Anyone knows if this can be done?
    Thanks, guys!

    Can you do something in the javascript code where you have given specific IDs to each buttons in your menu? It could end up in something like "$('#menu_id').css('background-color', '#1B3E70');"
    Or, let say you have controls defined like thie:
    <body>
    <ul class="menu">
    <li class="menu-item"><a>item 1</a></li>
    <li class="menu-item"><a>item 2</a></li>
    <li class="menu-item"><a>item 3</a></li>
    </ul>
    </body>
    Can't you write at render stage this kind of actions by index:
    var i = $("li").index( $(this).parent() );
    if ( i === 1 ) {
    $('body').css('background', 'red');
    } else if ( i === 2 ) {
    $('body').css('background', 'green');
    } else {
    $('body').css('background', 'brown');

  • Can't get black background in Print project

    I am using the print feature in iPhoto '08 to print a batch of photos to PDF - one photo per PDF page. The intent is to use the pdf file to give a slideshow presentation that is hosted on a Windows machine - hence pdf. This works fine.
    But when I try to select a black background in the Customize window for the pages, the background still shows as white, which in turn will give a white border on all the eventually projected pictures which isn't desirable. If this isn't the right way to get the background of the pdf pages all-black, what is?
    Thanks.

    OK, further update.
    The white border inside the black border that Print Project adds seems to be actually part of the original photo, and only occurs where the "photo" was created by )e.g.) PowerPoint - I can fix that in the original.
    But outside the black border (if black is the color I select in iPhoto print) there is still a white collar which will show up when I project the picture, and I can't find a way to get rid of that. In addition, the black border crops the photos, which sometimes cuts off a bit I might want.
    I seem to have experimented with all of the features in iPhoto print that seem to be relevant, and can't go any further.
    Any thoughts out there?

  • Can't get desktop background to display

    I don't know if this is HW or SW, but I'll start here.
    I have a brand-new MBP (early 2011). I can't get it to display a desktop background for love nor money, i.e. going into System Preferences, Desktop/Screen Save, and choosing a background, I get nothing but a light blue screen. It doesn't matter if I choose one of the pictures that comes with OS X or one of the pictures from my iPhoto library, it won't display them. It displays them in System Pref with no problem, and it doesn't give an error when choosing, it just doesn't change the desktop background.
    For the iPhoto library (although, remember, it doesn't work with the OS X pictures, either, i.e. Desktop Pictures, Plants, etc.), it works fine in both iPhoto and in Screen Saver, i.e. the Screen Saver displays photos without a problem.
    The problem survives a reboot, fixing permissions, and the 10.6.7 upgrade, i.e. it was happening on 10.6.6, and it's still happening after the 10.6.7 upgrade.
    Any ideas?

    I just tried the top from Linc Davis and it didn't work for me. I have a MBP bought in may 2010 i Sweden which is where I live.
    After upgrading today to 10.6.7 I notice the desktop background is replaced by a completely white background. Quoting vr8ce since this is the same for me: "It displays them in System Pref with no problem, and it doesn't give an error when choosing, it just doesn't change the desktop background." Unlike vr8ce, it was not happening in 10.6.6 for me. And unlike vr8ce my background is not blue but white.
    I haven't tried using anything from iPhoto etc - I'm just using the images in System Pref.
    I have upgraded to 10.6.7 (today), rebooted, run Repair Disk on the Install DVD (from another tip). I don't actually remember "fixing permissions".
    As I said, the tip from Linc Davis  didn't work for me. I'm not using a Screen Saver and never have, instead I prefer to close the lid, but not sure if this is the best thing to do.

  • Why PhotoBooth can't get the background images to work properly on the picture

    Why PhotoBooth can get the background images to work properly on the picture, is it because too much luminosity in the environment or too little? I have tried everything and nothing works.
    <Re-Titled By Host>

    Might try this...
    Go to System Preferences > Universal Access and down in the Display: section make sure that the Enhance contrast: slider is all the way to left to Normal, or more to the right for less Contrast.
    Go to System Preferences > Accessibility in 10.8.x,and down in the Display: section make sure that the Enhance contrast: slider is all the way to left to Normal, or more to the right for less Contrast.

  • Can't get the backgrounds to show on templates

    I'm building a template for a website and the background I put in (a JPG) shows fine in WYSIWYG and in the code, but will not preview in any browser. Also when I FTP the site, the background shows up fine on the index page (which is not using a template), but not on any pages associated with the template.  (I'm using VISTA and Dreamweaver CS4.)

    Without seeing your code it's hard to know just what might be going wrong...but potentially it's how the image file is linked to in your template. What's your site structure like and what's the filepath to your image?

  • Can't get parent div to expand vertically.

    I know the right column floats and I tried a few things I found online but can't get it!
    http://thecottagesongoldenpond.com/mc_family.html
    AND I'm making all pages from my initial template, so I will need to add "the missing code" to that template - each page may require taller or shorter page..

    So for your footer do a clear:
    #footer {
              clear: both;
              background-color: #7D6A8A;
              text-align: center;
              height: 100px;
              width: auto;
              color: #FFFFFF;
              font-size: 13px;
              padding-top: 10px;
              font-family: "Lucida Grande", "Lucida Sans Unicode", "Lucida Sans", "DejaVu Sans", Verdana, sans-serif;
    Or you can make a line break do that:
    </map>
    </div>
    <br class="clearfloat />
    </div>
    and your CSS for the clearfloat class:
    .clearfloat { /* this class can be placed on a <br /> or empty div as the final element following the last floated div (within the #container) if the #footer is removed or taken out of the #container */
              clear:both;
              height:0;
              font-size: 1px;
              line-height: 0px;

  • How can i get to the wireless menu laserjet 100 color mfp m175nw?

    Hello there!
    Can someone please help me here. I'm trying to set up my wireless laserjet and i can not get it to work for the life of me.
    Somehow the printer menu does not let me get to it or change any value in it, leaving me not able to connect to my wireless network. I have done anything and everything the HP support website saays to do. How can i change the SSID in the printer to what my network ssid is?
    Thanks a million in advance!

    Sorry that you are having this issue. Here is a link that may assist you with the problem.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02677483&tmp_task=useCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=e...
    In your printer settings, do you have WIRELESS SETUP or WIRELESS SETUP WIZARD?
    The SSID is the name of your network. When the printer searches for a network, it finds your SSID, and you choose it.

  • Can I get Desktop background to be plain white or black?

    I'm sure this is already in the forum(s) somewhere, but my searches haven't found exactly what I'm looking for. Is there a way to have my Desktop color just plain black (as I can do in Windows?). The "Solid Colors" in the Prefs doesn't seem to have it. I did figure out how to get white-- kind of stupid the way they have the white square "hidden" in the set of color boxes, though! But I'd like to just get a black background. I'm not afraid of using the terminal if that would do it. Thanks in advance.

    You could do this to add black to your choices:
    1. Navigate to "/Library/Desktop Pictures/Solid Colors"
    2. Double click the Solid Gray Dark.png file to open it in Preview
    3. From Tools select Image Correct and drag the Exposure all the way to the left so that the image becomes black
    4. Go File menu Save As and rename the file Sold Black and click the Save button
    When you open System Prefs Desktop you will now have Solid Black as one of the choices.
    If you have an image editing program you can add any color your little heart desires. Just create a 128x128 file, fill it with the color of your choice, then save it to the above folder as a png file.

  • Dreamweaver CS4 - Can't see table cells and borders

    Hello you all.  I just started using CS4 and whenever there is a white background I can't see any of the table cell or main borders.
    I went to View>Visual Aids>Table Borders and it is on, but I can't seem to find the area I need to change the color to view it on white.

    I just remember the previous versions would allow you to change the dotted line color that indicated the table and cell borders.
    Must say I can't ever remember that being a preference in any previous version of DW.
    Sadly, it looks like I will be using tables to set up my site.  Haven't adopted CSS as much as I'd like at this point.
    Now's as good a time as any to start with CSS from the ground up.

    When I try to print a photo in PS SC4, I get the following message: "Before you can preform a printer task suah as page setup or print a document, you need to install a printer."  I get the same message using Windows XP or Windows 7.  I was able to print a week ago, but now thing.  I tried resetting the preferences with no change.
    Is there someone who has incountered this type of issue before?  Thanks

    I finally got it to work.  This is my story and I am sticking to it!  I used another program, Olympus Studio II, to print out my photos after making updates on CS4.  This got me through printing out the photos I needed.  Then I went back to CS4 to try the default printer suggestion.  But, when I got back to CS4 I fund that I could access the printer menu and process a photo.  It sound similar to the default printer suggestion.  Only I changes applications and then it seems to work.  I have two systems Windows XP (old work station) and Windows 7 (new laptop).  I had the same problem with both and the approach I taken above seems to resolve the issue on both systems.  Don't ask me why.  I hope this helps!

    I am having the same problem, was able to print without any problems a couple of weeks ago, and suddenly having this error pop up. I have changed my default printers hoping to trick it. If you find a solution, I would be very happy. Ironically, my laptop is able to print from CS4 to the attached desktop printers but much prefer working on my large monitor.
