In Finder, a document landed under places. I want to delete it

Finder has a column on the left.
It has big categories -  one is Places.
Mostly it has direction to folders.
I did something in error and have a document (pdf) stuck there.
I want to get that document deleted. HOW?

This forum is for questions from those managing sites on iTunes U, Apple's service for colleges and universities to post educational material in the iTunes Store. You'll be most likely to get help with this issue if you ask in the general iTunes forums.

You delete an app on the device that holds it.
Use iTunes to see the installed apps. You can't view them at icloud.com.

The way I moved from 10.3.9 to 10.5.8 was to use "ditto -rsrc" and copy the user homes and the data share to an external firewire drive. Then did the same in reverse.
I found the key to data and share permissions to make sure that the users had the same UID in Leopard that they had in Panther.
You can then use "sudo rm -rf" to remove any folder from the relocated homes that you want. Remember if you do choose to remove "~/Library" from each users relocated home, you will be removing any iCal calendars, login.keychains, browser bookmarks, custom screensavers and wallpapers, etc.
Users don't really care if they can login and do any work. But there will be much wailing, gnashing of the teeth, and anxiety, if they lose their bookmarks and wallpaper.

Acrobat 9 Pro (not Standard) can export ("convert") PDF to Word, RTF, or other text formats.
    Click-path:  File - Export
    Take your pick.
With install of Acrobat 9 the Help PDF is installed also.

In finder under places, my mac does displays "macuser", how do I change it to my name/computer name?

Here are the instructions from Apple on changing the user short name or home directory name. I've used this on a couple of used MacBooks I've bought on eBay.

  • Finder Window Sidebar: PDF file under Places?

On my MacBook Pro, several weeks ago I noticed a PDF file listed under "Places" on the sidebar. I have no idea how it got there, and no idea how to remove it. Any suggestions?

Success! I had AppleCare on the line for an hour or more on this one and they could not figure it out. The PDF would not highlight, but I could grab it and pull it out of the side bar. It would typically just flip back into place once I let go. Your suggestions about using the Command key worked. Many thanks!

  • How to change the name of my computer? Under "places"

I'm not sure what its called but when i go to my finder and under "places" above "documents, applications, and music" there's something called "dkfsgdifyfj". i guess i typed that in when i first got the computer. • Charging Frequency and Username under Places

I have been reading up and some people say that they do not turn off their MBP's, just put them into sleep mode and go about their business, however, I recently made the switch to Mac and from Windows so I am kinda used to just shutting it down. My question is should I shut the MBP down or just put it sleep mode (which you can do by closing the MBP right) and keep it on charge like over-night or only charge when completely necessary?
Also, When I go into Finder and look under Places - I see four items: Desktop, (My iTunes username), Applications, and Documents. My question is, why is it showing my iTunes username or Apple username for that matter and can that be changed?

The kbase article is the link in my post above (kbase = Apple Knowledge Base).
Simply changing the short name in Advanced Options will change the shortname, but _will not_ change the name of your home folder in the Finder or the name of File Sharing shares. So, it won't accomplish what you want to do. Also, doing so can cause minor issues with preferences and apps that store data or settings based on your short name.
Therefore, follow the suggestions in the linked kbase article - either make a new user with the name you want, copy over the home folder contents, then delete the old one, or follow the steps in the linked article for Mac OS X 10.5. If you choose the latter option, follow the steps carefully and exactly (you can muck things up quite a bit if you are logged in as root).

  • Lost "Desktop" listing under "Places" when I want to save in CS5

    Panic !!!
I have been saving a bunch of pictures I'm working on in CS5 to a desktop folder.  Somehow on the last picture, when  I clicked on "Desktop" in "Places" to access the folder and save, I must have accidentally dragged the  "Desktop " out of the listing under "Places",  and I heard a " poof " and the "Desktop" name at the top of the list disappeared from the list. "Documents" and all of  the other choices are still there under "Places" . How do I get "Desktop" which was at the top of the list, to come back ?
I restarted the computer... nada..... and it is not in the trash.    I can't save anything to the desktop or a folder there because it isn't in the list anymore in CS5.
    HELP !
    carolyn

Thanks... I just did that, but it doesn't appear in the "Places" on CS5.  I did find a way to save in a folder
on the desktop in the pull down folder menu center just below the top "Img_6771.jpg" line.  I still think there should be a way to
get it back into the "Places" window in CS5.   Any other clues ?

  • HT4623 I cannot find the update section under Settings. What do I do?

I cannot find the update section under Settings. What do I do?

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1.3. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

iOS: How to update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4623
If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Tip 2 - If you're updating via wifi, place your iPad close to your router to preclude getting a corrupted download.

  • CS5 Bridge can't find my "Documents" folder

I'm running CS5 on Windows 7 64 bit, downloaded after purchase, if that makes any difference.
"My Documents" is available from the Favoritestab in Bridge, but I can't find My Documents or Documents anywhere in the "Folders" tab, which I would rather use, since its faster to browse a multilevel folder system this way.
I know that My Documents doesn't really exist in Windows 7 and it's more like a mirrored folder or something to help with compatibility, so I wasn't too surprised that it didn't exist in the Folders tab, but usually I can find Documents under C:/Users/MyName/Documents, but that folder doesn't show up either.
Does anyone else have this problem?  Any ideas what might be causing it?

(Repost from "Can't Find My Pictures Folder in Bridge..." with corrections after further testing)
Holy SMOKES, I think I have an ANSWER - or at least enough of one so you can find your "My Pictures" folder.
I've been able to see my account's "My Pictures" folder with Bridge since I started using CS5 in December 2010. For some reason when I started using it again today (Aug. 7, 2011) I could not see it in the Folders panel any more.
My Account's root folder used to appear in the Folders panel under the Desktop folder in the tree. From there I could unfold the tree to the "My Pictures" folder under my account root and off we'd go. Then it wasn't there any more. Despite this I could click on the folder path breadcrumbs field in the upper left corner of the Bridge window and paste the path and see it, and even set it as a Favorite that I could double click in the Favorites panel, but it would not display in the Folders panel. WTF?
What I found was that in my previous session in Bridge I had unchecked the "Show Hidden Files" option in the View menu of Bridge. Once I checked that option again I was able to see my account's root folder under the Desktop folder in the Folders Panel.
So if you can no longer see "My Documents" or "My Pictures" in your Folders panel, go to the View menu and check the "Show Hidden Files" option. It's a good bet you will suddenly see your Account folder show up under the Desktop as soon as you do it.
(Note that I still cannot not find my account when I use the Folder panel to navigate to the C:\Users folder. When i go in that way all I can see is the Public folder. I think it's always been like that, as if Adobe cannot keep up with the latest Windows OS changes. Be that as it may, by checking "Show Hidden Files" you can at least get to your "My Pictures" with the Folders panel by going down from the Desktop node.)

Is there a link where I can download the completed solution to the BizTalk Server Tutorial 1 Enterprise Application Integration ?
    Thanks in advance..

    1) Check the GAC and ensure that the schema is there, be sure the version numbers are the same.
    2) You should also restart the host instance and try again.
To check that the schema exists and is deployed properly open the query analyser on your BizTalk Server and
use the BizTalkMgmtDb and run the query below. In the where clause place the correct target namespace and root node name which is being reported in the error log from the Event Viewer.
    Select msgtype, assemblyid, clr_namespace, clr_assemblyname
    from bt_documentspec
    where msgtype = targetnamespace#rootnode;
    3)  Check the sample XML, its without namespace. Generate instance from the schema and then try.
    Should be
    <ProductCatalogInformation xmlns="http://MondaySchemas.Schema1"><\ProductCatalogInformation>
    What
you need to do to fix "There was a failure executing the receive pipeline… failed to load. Verify the schema for this document specification is deployed and is in the Global Assembly Cache" Error after deploying BizTalk Solution

  • Under places there is a folder which I can't access and can't delete

In Finder, Under Places there is a folder which I can't access (click on) and therefore can't delete. It has a yellow and black wheel next to it.

This is a burn folder, you can try holding command and dragging it to the trash.
Or try this:  CMCSK      1600 Pennsylvania Ave. NW This solved my questionRe: old burn folder Nov 14, 2012 5:23 PM (in response to Maryannd) Go to /Library/Preferences - delete/trash the files labeled "com.apple.finder.plist" and "com.apple.sidebarlists.plist" and then restart your computer.  Empty the trash once you reach the desktop.  The untitled dvd folder & burn icon should now be gone from the Finder sidebar.   In addition to removing preference files, if you don't want to use the sidebar for managing CDs and DVDs you can go to the Finder preferences and uncheck the option to show CDs, DVDs, and iPods in the sidebar to prevent them from appearing there in the first place.

  • Cant find a document

    Hi there,
I opened up one of my documents that i emailed to myself from a different computer. When opened through microsoft office virtualization handler i continued to do more work on the document and then clicked save but I cant find the document anywhere on my
laptop. Ive tried recent documents through office and outlook and through my history but i still cant find it. Please Help!!!!

Stefan's suggestion should work for you, if you do it quickly.
I know it won't make you feel great, but you are far from the first person to lose valuable work this way. You probably will not be the last. If you instead use Save As and pick a place to save the document outside the Temp folder that works, but this won't
help you find your work now.

  • Whenever I try to open a certain document on Microsoft word it keeps saying it is unable to find the document. How do I find it?

I typed a 10 page paper. And when I went to submit it to my class online the document was grey and it had no information and it wouldn't let me open it; like it was corrupted. When I do click on it, it says that Microsoft Word is unable to find my document.
When I click would you like to locate it yourself, it brings me to all my documents but it is no where to be found on my computer. How do I retrieve it?

    Hi Jessica,
From where did you open the file for editing originally? Have you saved it properly before you submit it?
As Paul mentioned above, in some cases, corrupted documents are rarely recoverable. Do you have a backup of that file? Or elaborate a little bit about your situation for further assistance.
