In Finder since 10.8.3 – delay when quickly moving items around

I think this is new since the Finder of OS X 10.8.3. It's kind of hard to explain, but here goes:
If one triest to move items around quickly after each other, there's like a second delay before you can do the second ”grab”.
Like this: click and drag any item (a file or folder) you have on the desktop, then quickly after releasing it click and drag that same file/folder again or another file and try to move it. There will be a delay before the comand responds. If moving several files quickly after each other this can be a bit irritating.
I don't think this was the case before, in 10.8.2 and earlier?

From the Finder menu bar, select
View > Show View Options
Is the box marked
Show Preview Column
checked? If not, check it.

Delay when preview Audiofiles in Finder.... :(

i got the problem with a little delay in LION when i want to preview some Samples (Wave aiffs etc) by hitting space bar in the FINDER and skip through the whole folder to find the right sample...it really is a workflow killer... the samples are all very short (drum samples or somethng like that)
in snow leopard it was with absolutely no Delay.. I hit spacebar and can listen to one sample... then I clicked with the arrow keys up and down and could listen immediately to the samples..with no delay...and easily could find the right sounding sample....

MAC Mini i7 server
16gb ram
Lion 10.7.3
even disabled Spotlight....
a lot of free HD Space... (its a new mac mini)...

Sorry, you weren't explicit enough on how doing it folder by folder would be time-consuming and you didn't mention view options (I didn't make the connection with preferences, since they're not). Anyway, to globally change the views of all windows requires deleting the hidden .DS_Store files that are created when you first open a folder and resetting the first one to how you want to view all subsequent ones as the defaults. This will do it for your boot volume. Copy & paste this Terminal command and hit the return key:
*sudo find / -name ".DS_Store" -depth -exec rm {} \;*
when the Password: prompt pops up, enter your admin password, carefully since nothing shows on the screen, and hit the return key.
Then, create a new folder, set it up using the view options pane (CMD+J), and click the Use as defaults button: Now, it and all subsequently opened windows will retain that setting.
Getting that command to propagate to the server is left as an exercise for your server admin types.

The Firefox pop-up blocker is usually very effective for blocking pop-ups generated by websites, but it sounds like you may have picked up some Malware that is generating those pop-ups from you own PC.

Delay when using BC partition in VMware Fusion

Hi everyone,
I've been wondering about this for months now and finally decided to ask for your experiences.
When using my Windows (XP Pro 32bit) Boot Camp partition as a VM in Fusion I always get a delay when the desktop appears and the taskbar items are loading. I can see that the VM Tools seem to be loading (taskbar icon) while this is happening. This usually takes at least 10-15 seconds on my MBP (C2D with 4 GB RAM) and it has been the same for the last few versions of OS X and Fusion.
Is this delay normal when using the BC partition? It definitely isn't there when booting a regular VM. If so, how long does it take for you?

Nope, KBDMGR.EXE is located in "Program Files" and autostarted via the RUN registry-entry. It's seemingly not even a real driver, but merely a bridging process that administers the drivers.
If you run bootcamped Windows without KBDMGR you cannot use the special function keys (brightness, loudness etc) and at least in Vista you have to do some manual settings every time you start Windows in order make tap-to-click usable without KBDMGR (a better and easier way is to start KBDMGR once and then stop it again if you don't want/need it).
Manually enabling tap-to-click and chosing the Boot-OS is possible without KBDMGR being loaded even once, you can just call the settings application from Windows/System32. The Readme coming with my Script explains how to find that and possibly use a keyboard- or icon-shortcut for that.
Theoretically it can be stopped/killed via Process-Manager and started manually by just calling the exe file. Practically that only works as long as the RUN entry in the registry remains intact and points to an existing file.
Along other things my script explains how to replace KBDMGR.EXE with a dummy file which in turn allows to start Windows without it and later loading it manually if needed (preferably via a keyboard- or icon-shortcut as described in the Readme of my script).
Personally I use Right-ALT+, for opening the Settings and Right-ALT+. for switching KBDMGR on/off (along with switching the F-Keys from Standard to Special functions alongways). Works like a charm.

Finder Windows always open new windows when clicking subfolders

since i upgraded to 10.5.6, my finder windows only open new windows when I click on a subfolder. this is no matter what I do with the setting in preferences.
Also, my finder windows no longer display the side bars with folder icons.
I searched my library (and whole computer) for the finder preferences .plist file and can't find it. (was going to delete it and re-create it).
Any ideas here?

The default of Finder’s Find will not search that folder, but you can change the pulldown menu just beneath where it says Search, from Kind to System files by selecting Other from that menu and then scroll down the next window and check the box next to System files. You’ll then need to change the pulldown menu next to that to “include” instead of “don’t include.”
The next time you do a search using Find, that pulldown menu will have System files as an option, if you think you might want to search for something in your home folder.

Long delay when sending non-btinternet mail

We are using Outlook Express/Windows mail client, and there is a long long delay when sending mail.
It just hangs saying "Connecting..." in the status bar. Receiving email has no problems.
Eventually it sometimes works or sometimes just times out.
The smtp server is not btinternet/yahoo but our own email server, which we have been using for 10 years. There is no problem pinging the smtp server. e.g. smtp.ourserver.net
It works without delays on other (non BT) home/business networks.
We have tried plugging other laptops into this home network and trying to send email (to the same mail server) - same problem.
It therefore seems to be peculiar to a BT Hub or BT as the ISP.
The problem seems to have first appeared when an upgrade was made to cater for future fibre optic services.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Today I started from my Firewire-device with 10.4.11 and had ichat running from there. I chatted with my friend, who is on 10.5.1 - no problems at all. (so my router is not causing the problem, as I thought)
Starting from 10.5.1 again I opened up Activity Monitor and found this message every 10 secs !

I remember that I installed Little snitch some time ago and removed it manually. Then today I run the official uninstaller for it. Still I cannot get rid of this activity. I have not had wifi since November when I upgraded to the newest IOS version. I called the Apple help line and they told me some things to do and I tried them all and they worked for a few hours and then wifi shut off again. I kept doing what they told me and it worked for a couple more days and then I could never turn it on again. My blue tooth doesn't work either. I had to actually increase my data usage with AT&T becuase of this. When I did that in December I went to the Apple store and was told that it is a hardware issue and since my phone is out of warranty I would have to pay for a new phone because they could not fix the issue. My upgrade isn't up until June 2014 so not only do I have to wait for the upgrade and I am not paying for a new phone but I have to pay $10 plus extra a month on my cell phone bill because I was going over on my Data!!! I have been beyond upset about this and Apple is not doing anything about this nor did they offer up some way to resolve the issue because obviously it is not just some rare incident if several people are having this issue. Who knows how many people out there have had this issue and have not said anything about it. Now there is a newer update that I can't do because it requires wifi in order to download.
June can not get here fast enough and I may not go back to Iphone after dealing with this for so long with no help from Apple.

Create a delay when a change occurs

Hallo ,
I would like to know how a delay can be created when i change the value of a pre defined control . The range control is a prefedined option that allows me to change the sensitivity . since it takes few seconds for the new sensitivity to be set i would like to create a delay when this value is changed . Kindly help me on this .

Delay when applying large, hierarchical type definitions

Hello,
I searched around using various terms, but couldn't readily find posts on what I'm experiencing.
Has anyone else noticed huge delays when applying large, hierarchical type definitions? I've got about a dozen nested type definitions of clusters, each containing anywhere from 10 to 100 controls, and they're used throughout a large application. When I open any member of that hierarchy, make a small change, and hit apply, I see the hourglass (spinning ring of death in Vista/7) for a good two to five minutes.
A short term workaround has been to close all dependent VIs and typedefs, and then make an isolated edit. Then, if I open the whole application again, I see some compiling taking place, but it seems to take a lot less time than when the whole application is open.
I could have sworn that I read a discussion by some others commiserating about this at some point, but now I can't find it.
Has this been addressed, and has anyone heard if there's any development effort to improve this?

It's funny, I've actually adopted using larger typdefs in the last year or two for architectural simplicity, and that's when I've noticed this becoming a problem. In fact, for what it's worth, right now I'm using a data reference to store the "data dictionary" (large typedef) but that doesn't really help the issue.
From an architectural sense, it makes things easier for me because I have much fewer wires to pass around most of my data is in one place.

Actually, I'm using a data reference right now, which is somewhat analogous to what you're suggesting. (Maybe not? I also use queues and notifiers depending on the situation.) I haven't really seen this technique help the issue; I'm still noticing the large delays, but only when editing the typedefs.
The only way I've really found relief is to separate the large typedef into smaller ones and pass them around separately. This is kind of a pain because it means I have many more references to data structures to keep track of.

Actually, if I'm to be honest, it really is starting to become a hassle. I hit apply and end up working on something else for a few minutes while the compiler chugs away. I'd be really interested in an improvement in this area. If it makes things easier, I can discuss this via email and upload an application I'm working on as an example. (Multiple large apps I'm working on exhibit this behavior)

There is a huge delay when i type a message or anything on my phone, after installing ios 7?

How do I make my phone faster?? Since i installed ios 7 there is ahuge delay when i type anything into my phone. Someone suggested going to settings> icloud> documents and data and switching this from off to on. Mines is already turned on, so will i lose my stuff if i switch it off and on again? Someone help please

Turning it off will only remove documents and data, not your contacts and stuff. The data it removes from the phone will also stay on your iCloud account and return when the switch is turned on.

Experiencing a huge delay when typing a message since I downloaded ios7. 20+ seconds between characters.
Any idea out there why?

Check Settings>General>Restrictions and see if they are turned on and Siri is restricted.

How do I get Lightroom to find photos on a USB Drive when the Drive letter changes?

THis is probably a simple question but I keep getting stuck. I ha
ve my catalog and some images on my laptop hard drive, but the majority are on
an external USB drive. Sometoimes the drive gets assigned
E:, F;, or G:, and when it cahnges, the catalog says the phots are missing. How do I get

The quick fix is to click on the folder containing the missing files and choose "update Folder Location" then find the folder on the USB drive. The longer term and fix you should apply is to set Windows to always give the USB the same drive letter. You can do this through the XP Disk Management application in Computer Management (Control Panel applet). The following screenshot is for XP, but Vista and Win 7 will something similar which can be accessed via Administrative Tools (see second screenshot).

I have a new email address. Changed this on my itunes account. On iPhone deleted old icloud account and created new with new email. I have set find my phone to on. When I download music it no longer goes to icloud an does not show up on my iphone.

I have the same problem - it is maddening. I rely on this iPad for work so this is not just an annoyance! The above solutions of changing the appleid on the device or on the website do not work.
The old email address no longer exists - I haven't used it in a year probably and I no longer have the account. I logged into the appleid website and there is no trace of the old email address so there is nothing that can be deleted or changed there. On the iPad there is no trace of the old email address so nothing can be deleted there either. I have updated the iPad software and the same problem comes right back. Every 2 seconds I am asked to log in using the old non-existent email. The device is currently useless.
The only recent change to anything was the addition of an Apple TV device, which was set up using the correct login and password.
Does anyone have any ideas? The iPad has been backed up to the iCloud so presumably it now won't recognize the current iCloud account? So restoring may notbe an option?
