In OS 9, backup of photo preserves original folder/photos create/mod date. In OS 10, the dates get changed. How can we fix this ?

We use OS 9.2.x to copy photos off the camera's SD memory card to an iMac. We then in turn backup the folders and files to an external hard drive. The original dates (create date / modified date) of the folders and photo files are preserved, which is very important to us. However, when we attempt to perform that same function in OS 10.x (10.4, now 10.5), the backed up files and folders create dates are altered to be today's date. I've tried several options within Unix to copy, which is almost sucessful. The one thing I can't preserve is the original dates on the folders. Am looking for any help to figure this out before our older iMac no longer runs.

Hi George,
Did you try cp in the Terminal with the -p option?
-p    Cause cp to preserve the following attributes of each source file
in the copy: modification time, access time, file flags, file mode,
user ID, and group ID, as allowed by permissions.  Access Control
Lists (ACLs) will also be preserved.
And if it's a DOS/FAT volume you're copying to see this...
