In spite of Assembly Deployment being GlobalAssembly Cache solution contains resources scoped for web application

As per below snapshot of my SharePoint solution properties, my Assembly Deployment is GlobalAssembly Cache.
My solutions contains two features
1. Timer Job Feature - Scoped at Web Application Level
2. List Item Event Receiver - Scoped at Site Level
While deploying the solution I am asked to give Web Application Url and as per below snapshot it also contains Web Application Scoped resource.
What I am not able to figure out is why it shows in 'Contains Web Application Resource' as 'Yes' in spite of my
Assembly Deployment being GlobalAssembly Cache?
Secondly, when i deploy my solution, I find my webapplication level feature missing in UI. However the feature is installed and i find it to be visible when i check through powershell script.

Hi Benjamin,
If you're getting a Null Value error anywhere, that means a variable you're referencing isn't set to anything. If you're getting that try echoing out each variable after it's assigned to see if it's set to anything.
The link you are referring is for SharePoint 2010 and verified on Windows Server 2008 R2 and 2008, but not Windows Server 2012.
The approach in this case includes the following per the blog:
Check to see if a web application with the current specified URL is already in use – exit if it is
Check to see if an application pool with the name already exists. If so use it, otherwise create one
Create a web application based on the parameters specified
Assign the object cache properties to the new web application
Create policies for the object cache users to the web application
To simplified the code, we could use powershell below to check if web application and application pool have been already in use ahead. And skip the last two steps in the first time.
Get-SPWebApplication | fl displayname, applicationpool
Please refer to New-SPWebApplication
which is used to create a new web application within the local farm:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff607931(v=office.15).aspx. Only two parameters i.e. ApplicationPool and Name are required, we could try a simple command at first:
Please run Get-SPManagedAccount to check the managed account, then execute the command below:
$ap = New-SPAuthenticationProvider
New-SPWebApplication -Name "Contoso Internet Site" -Port 2014 -ApplicationPool "ContosoAppPool" -ApplicationPoolAccount (Get-SPManagedAccount "Domain\Administrator")
 -AuthenticationProvider $ap -SecureSocketsLayer

  • App Insights for web application not working when deployed to Dev server

App Insights is not sending telemetry data for ASP.NET MVC web *requests* (page views from the JS instrumentation are fine) when the app is deployed to the Dev or Test IIS servers.  On local IIS express it works perfectly fine.    I have
no idea how to troubleshoot this problem.
    Bert Jackson

    - the AI.config file is both in the root of the site, and the /bin folder (which was confusing the other day).  Both are correct.
    - it looks like a local browser can go to https://dc.services.visualstudio.com (it results in a 403 since its just a GET to the root).  During this test, I found that this server did NOT have the Root trust certificate (Baltimore cybertrust), which
would cause problems when using IE locally to browse the app; the javascript AI logging was not working, because it couldnt fetch the ai.0.js file).  I got the proper root certificate installed on the server, but request logging still not working.  I
dont believe the firewall is a problem.
    - I've verified that all binaries are indeed deployed in to the bin folder on the server
    - web.config does have the AI http module; I've verified via logging that the ApplicationInsightsWebTracking is loaded.  However, I have custom Context/Telemetry initializers, and their Initialize() methods are *NOT* being called when deployed on the
server.  I've tried both ways of registering the initializers; via code in the Application_Start() event and also in the ApplicationInsights.config file.
I don't know how to troubleshoot any further, to figure out if AppInsights is actually *trying* to send telemetry out and failing, or if its not actually even trying.

  • Cannot display BIG5 characters for web applications deployed to 9iAS

I have just installed the J2EE and Webcache module of Oracle9iAS Release 2 to
my Windows NT Server 4.0 and deployed a simple web application to it. However,
I found that the JSP cannot display chinese (Big5) characters correctly. My JSP
    is something like:
    <%@ page contentType="text/html; charset=BIG5" %>
    <HTML><BODY>
    <% String s = SOME_BIG5_CHARACTERS; %>
    <%= s %>
    </BODY></HTML>
On the other hand, I tried to re-direct the standard output to a log file and
do the following in my servlet.
    System.out.println(SOME_BIG5_CHARACTERS);
Now, the Big5 characters CAN be displayed correctly in the log file. So, I am
confused with where the problem is.
Here are my settings to my 9iAS:
    1) Using regedit, I have set the NLS_LANG variable of the corresponding
    ORACLE_HOME to TRADITIONAL CHINESE_TAIWAN.ZHT16BIG5
    2) In the file %ORACLE_HOME%\Apache\Jserv\conf\jserv.properties, I have
    inserted the following line:
    wrapper.env=NLS_LANG=TRADITIONAL CHINESE_TAIWAN.ZHT16BIG5
    3) In the file %ORACLE_HOME%\Apache\Apache\conf\httpd.conf, I have added the
    following line:
    PassEnv NLS_LANG
    4) In the file %ORACLE_HOME%\opmn\conf\opmn.xml, I have added the following
line to the corresponding OC4J instance:
    <environment>
    <prop name="NLS_LANG" value="TRADITIONAL CHINESE_TAIWAN.ZHT16BIG5"/>
    </environment>
    5) For my application server, I set the java option with -Dfile.encoding=Big5
    6) I have replaced the file font.properties with font.properties.zh_TW under
    %ORACLE_HOME%\jdk\jre\lib.
    7) I have set the following in the file orion-web.xml of my web application:
    <orion-web-app
    deployment-version="9.0.2.0.0"
    default-charset="Big5"
    jsp-cache-directory="./persistence"
    temporary-directory="./temp"
    internationalize-resources="false"
    default-mime-type="application/octet-stream"
    servlet-webdir="/servlet/">
    </orion-web-app>
Anyone have idea on fixing my problem? Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Kae

I met a similar problem before but not exactly your case. When I compile the JSP by Jdeveloper, it will convert the chinese characters to strange characters. It makes me crazy to handle the chinese characters ...
Anyway, by my experience, you better isolate the chinese characters from your JSP or Java programs. Instead, put all language dependent text in a properties file and then use native2ascii to covert your properties file into Unicode. Of course, u need to change your page charset to UTF-8.
U can get more idea from the following site.

  • How to Deploy the third party EJB 3.0 jar in web application

I have a web application which calls services provided by EJB 3.0 beans packaged in third party jar. How do a configure the ViewController project to deploy the beans to the weblogic server when I run the application rather than deploy the EJB ear as a stand application to the server?
The jar file has already referenced by the project. In the "EJB Module" of project properties I've set the EJB Version property to 3.0, but the Annotated EJB 3.0 Bean Classes list remains empty, presumably because I have no beans defined in the sources of the application. When running the project the EJB jar did not deploy automatically. Is there something wrong? How can I achive this goal?
    Best Wishes~
    ELeven.Xu
    IDE: JDeveloper 11g (11.1.1.2.0)
    OS: Linux

I don't think this technique will work. I added a META-INF/ejb-jar.xml file to the application, and added a <session> section for one of the EJB 3.0 beans from my third party jar. I specified values for <ejb-name>, <ejb-class>, and <session-type> hoping the rest of the configuration would be determined from the annotations in the class. When the server starts, this warning message is displayed:
    Oct 30, 2009 12:06:41 PM com.evermind.server.ejb.logging.EJBDeploymentMessages warningSessionBizInterfaceNotDefined
WARNING: \[current-workspace-app: ... \] - The session bean does not has at least one business interface defined for client access. The bean is not accessiable and usable at runtime.
    Ready message received from Oc4jNotifier.
Embedded OC4J startup time: 11042 ms.
    \[sic\]
EJB 3.0 beans are not required to define business interfaces, as they are supposed to be generated by the container.
Good idea, but still cannot deploy beans from the third party EJB 3.0 jar referenced by my project to the embedded OC4J container. Still investigating.
    Thanks,
    Steve
By the way, I have been able to use your technique to deploy EJB 2.1 beans from third party jars in other projects, just not EJB 3.0 beans that do not provide ejb-jar.xml deployment descriptors, nor business interfaces.
Edited by: user10375549 on Oct 30, 2009 9:51 AM - Added relevant comment regarding technique described for solving problem. It works for EJB 2.1 beans but not EJB 3.0 beans.

  • Separate logging with log4j for web applications deployed on one server

I have been trying to get web applications to write to separate log files.
Log4j.jar is loaded through classpath once during weblogic startup. In each web application, I have Log4j.xml or Log4j.properties configuration files under WEB-INF folder. I hava java class in the application extending HttpServlet and loads the log4j.xml file, In web.xml they have load-on-startup set to 1. Two java class files both extending write the log to the specified log file but other java class files are not logging information, some implement filter, some are action classes (Struts 1.2.9). If the java class has a static method then the log from the method is being written but the log from instance methods is not being written. I tried declaring the variable both as static and non-static
    private Logger log = Logger.getLogger(LoginFilter.class);
What could be causing some java class files not to log?
Another issue, For Log4j.xml, Doctype as SYSTEM property set to lookup Log4j.dtd, weblogic complains as Log4j.dtd file not found, tried adding this file in WEB-INF folder, same location as LOg4j.xml and WEB-INF/lib folder and even in classpath, weblogic still complains of log4j.dtd file being not found. For now, I removed SYSTEM entry but need to put it back for parser to validate xml file.
    I am using WLS 8.1.6, struts 1.2.9 and Log4j 1.2.8 versions.
    Any help is appreciated.
    thanks,

I have developed a web application with servlets/jsp/xml and i used Eclipse Ide & Resin application server but now i want to deploy my this web application on 9i Application server.WHAT STEPS SHOULD I DO FOR THIS DEPLOYMENT?
If anybody help me about these deployment steps i would be very grateful.
    Thanks.

    Chris,
Could you please let me know how do you create/generate an EAR/WAR file?
Where would I find the documentation to do so?
Also I am not sure but, is Web application deployment different from Forms9i deployment? My understanding is it is.
    I am deploying Forms9i application.
Your input would be very valuable..

  • How to deploy web applications on d:\web

    Hi all,
I am new to this forum and like to know the procedure for deploying a web application

Yes. The new Weblogic J2EE book requires installation in 'c:\wlserver6.0' for the

  • Error during deployment writing deployemnt cache

I get this error every time I try to deploy from JDeveloper to oc4j. Only shutdown and redeploy works.
Error instantiating compiler: IO error writing cache: D:\oc4j\j2ee\home\applic
    ation-deployments\App\Appejb.jar\deployment.cache
It might have something to do with EJB being in memory? Any better ideas on how to deal with this?
    Thank you,
    Mark Komosa

    Hi!
I had the same problem too. But not using JDeveloper, but the deploy-tool/command line option. It is probably the same thing almos I guess. The problem is that oc4j doesn't really give you any information about what is really wrong during deployment. I too tried to just shut it down and do a restart. That seemed to help some times. The generation of wrapper classes and their compilation is nowhere near stable. I got a really interesting error because I had a variable named "dirty" in one of my beans. It seemed like oc4j generated a wrapper containing a variable with the same name (sic!) and this caused a compilation error when this variable was initialiazed in some point of their code... Renaming my variable "solved" the problem.
Also try the auto-deploy mechanism. This might work better for you.
If you are using local interfaces, be sure that your bean implementation does not have any methods which declare or use RemoteException. This might be stupid to point out, but I have used the same bean implementation for both remote and local interfaces in Jboss, forgetting to remove these declarations from the bean implementation (I never actually throw RemoteExceptions, just EJBExceptions), and their wrapper classes do not care about this. Of course the exceptions shouldn't be there but this caused errors for me and maybe someone else is suffering from this unknowingly.
All in all, I can now deploy to 9.0.3 Developers' Preview with not very much hassle (just the deployment being awfully slow and memory consuming). Of course, now I have downloaded the 9.0.3 "Production" release and now I am getting new errors using the same ear-file which works fine in DR... it makes you a little bit irritated to say the least.

  • What is the significance of the Assembly Deployment Target and Feature Scope?

    Hello,
We have created a project as Farm Solution (not sandbox).
Under project properties we can see an option for Assembly Deployment Target : GAC or WebApplication.
I know that GAC will deploy the dll to windows\assemblies and WebApplication will deploy to website/bin folder.
Now, we add a feature to the project; in here we can see a dropdown for scope with options as: Farm; Web; Site; WebApplication. I know that depending upon what option is chosen; the feature can then be activated by going to the respective manage features
option via SharePoint front end UI.
Can you tell me what is the significance of the Assembly Deployment Target and Feature Scope?

    >>Can you tell me what is the significance of the Assembly Deployment Target and Feature Scope?
Feature scope can be decided based on the type of artifacts you will be building
Check the below link for what type of artifacts can be build at different levels of scopes
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms454835(v=office.14).aspx
wrt to Assembly Deployment Target depends on what type of components you are deploying through your solution which will be specified in manifest.xml. There are advantages
if you deploy the components to web application rather GAC like all Apppools will not get recycled, avoiding IIS reset etc. But if you have 3rd party dlls and feature receivers which need to deployed along with the solution then its advisable to deploy to
    GAC

  • OC4J11 deployment problem - TLD Caching issue

    Hello,
I'm having problem deploying a JSF 1.2 web app. This web app uses third-party tags which are packaged under "WEB-INF/lib". When deploy this web app (as an EAR file), I'm getting these errors -- which seemed to relate to TLD CACHING:

I looked in the Oracle® Containers for J2EE Support for JavaServer Pages Developer's Guide 10g Release 3 (10.1.3) document (http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25221_04/web.1013/b14430.pdf) and it recommended that parameter "jsp-cache-tlds" in global-web-application.xml is "Set to on to search all directories within the Web application for TLD files. Any found will be added to the list of TLD files inherited from the global Web application".
So I made the changes, restarted my OC4J11 instance and deployed my JSP app again. Still getting the same error.
Has anybody encountered this same issue ?

Caching is turned on by default. If you want to modify your roles and have them take effect immediately then you should turn caching off. This is mentioned in the docs:

We have had this issue many, many times before including on the latest 3.6 rev. It appears that when the applicationCache has an update triggered by a new manifest file, the browser may still use only its local network cache to check for updates to the files in the manifest, instead of forcing an HTTP request and revalidating both the browser cache and the applicationCache versions of the cached file (seems there is more than one). I have to assume this is a browser bug, as one should not have to frig with server Cache-Control headers and such to get this to work as expected (and even then it still doesn't sometimes).
The only thing that seems to fix the problem is setting network.http.use-cache to false (default is true) in about:config . This helps my case because we only ever run offline (applicationCache driven) apps in the affected browser (our managed mobile apps platform), but it will otherwise slow down your browser experience considerably.

    and the program exits.
-source <archive file or directory> Location of the file or directory that
    represents the enterprise component or
application tha is being (re)activated. If
the source file is relative it is relative to
the current directory, unless the -remote
option is used. To specify individual files
within an application for reployment or
addition list them at the end of the command
    line.
-name <application name> The name of the application being deployed.
    -targets <<server 1>,...<component>@<server N>> A comma separated list of the server and/or
cluster names. Each target may be qualified
with a J2EE component name. This enables
different components of the archive to
    deployed on different servers.
-id <task identifier> Optional client supplied unique identifier
for the deployment task. The id is first
    specified to -activate, -deactivate,
-unprepare or -remove. It is then used later
as an argument to -cancel or -list.
-activate (Re)activates the <source> application on the
    <targets> with the <name>.
-deactivate Deactivates the application <name> on the
<targets> leaving an staged application files
in a state where the may be quickly
    reactivated.
-unprepare Deactivates and unloads classes for the
application <name> on the <targets> leaving
an staged application files in a state where
    the may be quickly reloaded.
-remove Deactivates the application <name> on the
<target> and removes any files that were
staged for this application. If there are no
longer any targets for the application, the
    associated configuration is completely
    removed.
-cancel Atempts to cancel the task <id> if it is has
    not yet completed.
-list Lists the target status of each task <id>
-deploy a convenient alias for activate.
-undeploy a convenient alias for unprepare.
Optionally a list of the specific files in the archive that are to be
redeployed may be specified. If a directory is specified the entire subtree is
    redeployed.

you use "deploy" under DOS-Mode to deploy your web application?
i found some differences between "deploy" and "redeploy" function in jbuilder 9.
when i choose "deploy" ,jbuilder shows me the commond below:

when i choose redeploy,it shows me: (the -deploy parameter has changed to -activate) ,maybe it's a bug.

  • Browser based InfoPath form deployed on a Claims based Web Application calling a Secure Web Service via Data Connection

    hi,
We have a Browser based InfoPath Form deployed on a Claims based Web Application. We are tyring to call WCF Services that are secure using Certificates via the Data Connections on Infopath Form.
Earlier we used to get the Data in BCS External List via the WCF Services and the Data Connections used to get the Data from the BCS External List. Due to Performance Issues, we want to remove the BCS External List and straightaway call the secure WCF Services
    via the Data Connections.
    Have anyone implemented this scenario.
    Thanks
    Ram
    Thanks Ram

    Hi Ram,
As these are browser based InfoPath forms, you have two options
    1) Deploy as sandboxed forms
In this case you have to create a secure store application id and then set the credentials for that account.
You then have to export the data connection to Data connections library and modify the .udcx file to utilize the newly created secure store application id.
This may sometime give issues related to sandboxed code service. You have to give permissions on the secure store for the user account which the sandboxed code service is running.
    2) Deploy as administrator approved forms
This would be ideal way of doing things as you have full control over the web request if you write code behind InfoPath forms.
    3) Deploy as a Hybrid solution
    a) Write a full trust proxy solutions (extend SPProxyOperation class and override execute method) and make the web request call inside this and return the response
    b) Invoke above operation from the sandboxed InfoPath form's code behind by SPUtility.RegisteredProxyOperation(four part assembly name, operation args)
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks,

  • Web Application - Data caching of enterprise data

Sorry in advance if this is off-topic but I can't find anywhere else to post this type of question.
I am looking for information/suggestions such as books, technology or design methodology for my enterprise web applications. These sites are currently up and functional using only JSP, servlets and regular Java classes stored in a web application session to provide data caching and access. We are using Weblogic Server 6.1 running on an AIX Unix system at this time. I'm not sure that this is the best design architecture as our web sessions are getting too large but I can't think of any other Java technology to use and I need some help. Here's an overview of our environment and our needs.
Our core data is held in a mainframe based IMS system. Some DB2 is also used. Access to this data is through IMS COBOL transactions which we can execute with IMS Connect. We also use some JDBC to get to the DB2 tables directly where available.
Some overall application data is cached when the web application is deployed. We use singleton classes which are created and refreshed at deployment and they then refresh themselves from the sources every 24 hours.
Each time a user logs in we execute several IMS transactions and JDBC calls to cache user specific data in regular Java classes which are then simply placed in the users web session where we access them from JSP, servlets and other Java classes. The fields in these Java classes range from any type of primitive field to TreeMaps of other Java classes. As the data is cached it is sorted and other fields are calculated and stored in these classes. As the user progresses through the system we then may have to do several other IMS transaction and JDBC calls to collect other types of data. All of this is then also added to the users session. Most of this in inquiry. We do allow transactions but those are built from user input and data already cached and are then we just execute the IMS transactions with the input.
As our application has grown these Java classes have gotten larger and larger. And since these are simply stored in server memory in the web sessions then these are also getting huge. I'm concerned that this is not the best way for this application to be architected. Is there something else we should be doign? I simply don't understand how Entity Java Beans could be used but then again I don't know much about them. I wouldn't think that caching the data to a local database and accessing it from there would be any more efficient and would probably just slow down the system from all the I/O.
Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.

The best book you can buy is 'Professional Java Server Programming, j2ee edition' by Wrox. It is by far the best reference I've used. Another quick reference consideration might be the j2ee book provided by codenotes... its quick and to the point.

  • Cisco Web Caching Solution

    Hi There,
I need a high availability web caching solution for 500 users, preferential with proxy funcionality.
Cisco had the Cisco Web Caching Engine, but it is End-of-Sales already. The new product that will replace the EOS product, is Wide Area Application Engine (WAE) plataforms. Is that right?
The Cisco Global Price List has a SKU product SE512-IPROXY-K9 (Security / iProxy WAE-512 bundle, 1GB MEM, 1 250GB HDD Incl.).
    The question are:
The SKU product SE512-IPROXY-K9 is the right product for my needs?
What is the difference between the SKU SE512-IPROXY-K9 and the SKU WAE-512-K9?
    Regards,
    Pedro Vasques

    Hi Pedro,
The WAE product line does WAN Optimization which includes HTTP optimization. The WAN Optimization solution works between two WAEs (one being at a Branch office and the other being at Data Center ). When employees at branch office tries to access resources like Servers at Data Center their TCP based traffic gets optimized. For more info pl go to http://www.cisco.com/go/waas
Cisco's Web Caching was a different solution. It caches the web objects when first user goes to a given web site. The following user requests will be served locally as long as cache history is available for that web page.
I suggest you contact either a Cisco partner or Cisco representative in your area.
    thanks
    Nat
