Including a resource file in java

hello all,
I am new to java and the question I m asking may be quite basic.
I have developed an application which is using a .jpg image file.
In the code I m accessing the image by only specifying the name of the file (LoadFile("image.jpg"));
instead of specifying the whole path to the location of the image file. The intention
is to make the app independent of the location of the image.
Now I have created a jar executable in which I have included the relevant .java and .class files using the
"Export" functionality in the Eclipse IDE. I then add the image file using the
jar -uvf example.jar "C:\temp\image.jpg"
However, when I execute the jar file I get an error that says the image file could not be found.
When we include a resource file (image.jpg in this case) doesnt it get included inside the jar?
Thanks in advance for your help
Tanveer

In the code I m accessing the image by only specifying the name of the file (LoadFile("image.jpg"));
However, when I execute the jar file I get an error that says the image file could not be found.Use:
getClass().getResource("/image.jpg");to get the url of the image in your jar file, and then use the url for anything you want to do.
Thanks!

  • What files are included in the file type "Java" in filter actions?

    Hello,
I am looking to block inbound attachments that contain any type of Java file, and I am looking to use the "Java" file type as opposed to a regex statement that matches every file type:
    .java
    .jar
    .js
    .jsx
    .jse
    .job
I've looked in the manual, it does not specify. Does anyone know if using this file type includes all these file extensions? Thanks!

    Hello Daniel,
For the list of supported 'filetypes' which the ESA should be able to identify is when you click on attachment-filetypes on the content filter, the drop down would give a general classification as well as the list of supported extension.
If you do not see the extension within the list here, then the suggested workaround is to use regex matching for the extension file names.
    attachment file info -> filename -> contains -> (?i)(\.(java|jar|js|jsx|jse|job))

It is NOT a ""here's my spec". As simple as it is.
And of course I know help here is free as in other thousands of forums
That is not really the issue.  You have already noted that this is not as simple as you thought.  There have been at least three statements in reponse to your request.  The reasons for these statements are that you are asking for someone to
write a script that is not a simple script.  YOu canwrite a script and post it with questions and your questions will be answered.
I posted before that you cannot copy applications like Office between systems.  They must be installed.  Office and most other applications can g\be installed by Group Policy.  This -is how we normally do this in Windows.  There is normally
no other way to do this for a large number of systems.
For large numbers of arbitrary file we would normally use RoboCopy.  The issues you have had with RoboCopy can be overcome by setting the correct options.  If you are trying to copy Office or other applications you sill likely find that many files
are locked.  This cannot be overcome by any copy method.  This is one of many reasons why we use Installers for applications.
I suggest that you learn the basics of Windows and how it manages applications and files.  Getting the fundamentals clear will help you to understand how to perform basic tasks in a Windows network.
If you really need help with this then you need to step back and explain exactly what is being copied and why.  I can think of no real world scenario where what you are asking for is necessary.  If you can  explain that perhaps we can point
    you at a usable solution.
Just keep in mind that you cannot remotely install Office or most applications by copying the files.  This has always been true in  Windows.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • How to include resource files in the server classpath

    Hello,
I deployed an EAR on weblogic. I have couple of resource files that I need to put in the server classpath. I get the following error when I try to access the web app.
java.util.MissingResourceException: Can't find bundle for base name HtmlTemplates, locale en_US
If I copy the resource files in WEB-INF/classes then the error goes away and the application works well. Can someone please tell me a better way to include the resource files in the WebLogic ?
    Thanks,
    Anu

    Hi Anu,
Putting the resource files in WEB-INF/classes is the correct and good way!

  • How to raplace resource files in jar file by other files?

Can I replace resource files (ex: some jpeg file which is in the jar file) when midlet execute on the phone. Is it possible?
Usualy, we use getResourceAsStream(filename) to get resource data as stream.
Is there some API function like 'setResource(filenmae, stream)' ??
Assume that I have a javaME application which displays some image in the jar file.
It is different from general image viewr program because it can display only
image file in the jar file (it means image file is resource file of java applcation).
In other words, when application executes, It shows always same image at first.
but I want that user can change image displayed if user wnat to do. I want to embed
authoring function into application. So user can replace resource file by other image files on the phone.
    How to do that?

I already told you, you CAN'T replace resources in a jar file.

    Hi Vijay,
    Thanks for the quick reply.
I have gone through the notes 1535201  & now on 1606563  after your advise.
Both the notes says the fix is available on 7.01 after SP 07 and we are on SP 14 already.
Also just in case I did checked with our basis and they confirmed we are a head and we have the above notes in our release already.
Unfortunately the notes are not the solution to the investigation till date.
    Thanks,
    Sai

    Thanks in advance.

This error is created whenever things go sour on the native side. The first thing you can try, and I assume you are using a Java<->C++<->C# bridge which includes two dlls, one created by C++ and another by C#. Is to make sure that the C# dll is compiled using /t:module switch during compilation.
If you are using VS2008, or VS2005, you can add a post build syntax like:
    csc /t:module /out:"$(ProjectDir)$(OutDir)YourModule.dll" "$(ProjectDir)YourCSfile.cs"
Hope this helps! If not, ensure first that the native code works by creating a native test app for it.

  • How to read a Properties Resource File in KM with Web Dynpro Java

    Hello all,
I would like to store a resource file in KM and have my web dynpro application read that file at runtime.  Is this possible?  Any examples of how to achieve this?
I hoping to be able to modify this resource file in KM to easily change certain behaviors in my webdynpro application.

    Thanks Naga Raju Meesala.

Also, since I am building a weddynpro DC, what is the proper way to include these jar files as Used DCs?
Now proceed in the same way with the variable PORTAL_HOME and add the following .jar files:

u2022 \portalapps\com.sap.portal.usermanagement\lib\com.sap.security.api.ep5.jar The user management APIs of the Enterprise Portal 5.0 are deprecated, but still in use in SAP NetWeaver 04

  • How to include a .desktop file for a Java-based PKGBUILD?

I've tried searching a for a while and can't seem to get anywhere with such generic search terms, but I was wondering what would be the proper way to include a .desktop file and possibly an icon for a PKGBUILD that is just a Java-based program?  I think it would be a lot more user-friendly for people if I could add  the program to their menu when they install it.
As things are right now, the PKGBUILD just creates an executable script in <code>/usr/bin/</code> that runs the jar file with the proper classpath (as per the Java Packaging Guidelines), and there is nothing to actually make/compile (thus no .desktop file directly from the author).  The package I plan on adding these features to is jGnash in the AUR if you want to take a look.  Thanks!

  • How resource files(.rc) are implemented in java

I want to know how resource files are implemented in java. I am using a window98 as OS.
    Thank you
    Abu_ramla

I wonder if this might help:
    ResourceBundle rbd = ResourceBundle.getBundle("Filename");
to get a property out of the resourceBundle use:
    String varname = (String) prb.getObject("propName");
    As allways, check the API
    Hope this helps

  • Java temporary resource files

I accidentally deleted java temp resources files I need for my vpn.  These were loaded the first time I connected to the site in Safari.  Now I can't connect and they won't re-download from the site.  Is there any way to get these back?  I have tried connecting through Firefox as well.  They both indicate missing applets which I have tracked back to the resources files that used to be there and aren't now.

Boot into recovery mode and reinstall the OS. Then, try the VPN stuff. BTW, Oracle's released update 7u11 which fixes the current exploit.
