Including class files withouth the import statement

I have been working on a project for my computer science class in which i have to design a "Projectile" class. However, when i attempt to use that class in a program, my compiler can't find the file even if it is in the same directory. I think i may have a problem with my classpath, but i am not sure. I don't know much about the way the compiler works. If anyone could give me a hint that would be great. Thanks

You'll probably need to post more information, such as the command you are entering, the exact error message, and perhaps part of the code - at least the class definition.
It sounds like a Classpath problem, or perhaps you aren't specifying the class correctly. The classes must be in the same package or you must import the_package.Projectile into the other class. The compiler will attempt to find the Projectile class by looking into the directories that are in the Classpath. You could try "javac -classpath . the_class.java"

  • How to organize the import statements in FXML Files?

    Hello,
    I'm a user of NetBeans IDE and it can organize the import statements in *.java files. Now, I'm using JavaFX and editing the *.fxml files as well. I want to know how to organize the import statements in *.fxml files?
    Thanks a lot.

    You should use Scene Builder, it will make all these import statements for you.
    Moreover, it will greatly simplify the writing of your FXML files, since you only have to Drag&Drop JavaFX objects on the scene. Then, it automatically generates FXML files.

  • How to access a class file outside the package?

    created a two java files Counter.java and TestCounter.java as shown below:
    public class Counter
         public void print()
              System.out.println("counter");
    package foo;
    public class TestCounter
         public static void main(String args[])
              Counter c = new Counter();
              c.print();
    Both these files are stored under "D:\Test". I first compiled Counter.java and got Counter.class which resides in folder "D:\Test"
    when i compile TestCounter.java i got the following error message:
    D:\Test>javac -classpath "d:\Test" -d "d:\Test" TestCounter.java
    TestCounter.java:6: cannot find symbol
    symbol : class Counter
    location: class foo.TestCounter
    Counter c = new Counter();
    ^
    TestCounter.java:6: cannot find symbol
    symbol : class Counter
    location: class foo.TestCounter
    Counter c = new Counter();
    ^
    2 errors
    what could be the problem. Is it possible to access a class file outside the package?

    ya that's fine..if we have two java files where both resides in the same package works fine or two java files which donot have a package statement also works fine. But my doubt is, i have a Counter.class which does not reside in a package and i have a TestCounter.class which resides in a package "foo", in such a scenario, how do i tell to the compiler that "Counter.class resides in such a path, please look at that and give me TestCounter.class". i cannot use import statement to import Counter.class in TestCounter.java because i donot have a package for Counter.java.

    Ehm, I wasn't referring to you at all... read up,
    there's a comment by jschell saying that CGI might be
    easier/better for his purposes.
    Yep.
    I know PHP/Perl/whatever might be easier for some
    purposes, but only if you happen to know them and want
    to/are able to use them. Ok. But you aren't the one asking the question are you. And the person who asked the question seems to have absolutely no familiarity with Apache or applets.
    So whatever they do they are going to have to learn a lot.
    And that does indeed suggest that in all likelyhood they have not investigated the alternatives.
    And for the vast majority of internet applications, especially with smaller projects (obvious this person is not working with a large team), using perl, or something besides java, is going to be the best business solution. It is simpler, and more secure (probably due to the fact that it is simpler.)
    Since this is a Java forum, I
    answer under the assumption that people have made a
    choice one way or another to use a Java solution to
    their problem, so I try to solve it in Java first, and
    only when that fails (very seldom) do I turn to other
    solutions.You approach problems by arbritrarily deciding to try to solve it in java first and only if you fail do you then look to other solutions?
    My first step is to try to figure out which of the various avenues is going to cost less. (And a secondary, but non-trivial concern, is then to convince the customer that just because they have heard of a buzz word like 'enterprise bean' that it doesn't mean that is a cost effective solution.) We must come from different worlds.

  • Please explain the IMPORT statement?

    I have been searching for information on the import statement, but can't seem to locate it. I understand how to use import, but I would like to know, in detail, exactly what it does.
    When I import, for example; "java.awt.*", I would expect this statement to import ALL of the classes define under "java.awt". However, I notice in the DiveLog class, that I must also import "java.awt.event.*". This is confusing to me.
    Can someone either explain this for me, or point me to the imort documentation?

    aye - what yawmark says. And also be aware that import doesn't really "import" any source (not the way #include does, if'n you're an old school C coder). It's just there to shorten typing. You can either type "java.io.IOException" a lot, or import java.io.IOException and get away with just typing "IOException". But you've just "imported" the namespace, not any kind of source.
    Make sense?

  • Can I include raw files into the installer folder with LV application builder?

    Hello,
    I have created a batch file that will run at the end of the installer, which will copy over some raw configuration files into the source destination so that the configuration files can be customized for each end user without rebuilding the installer with application builder. I also have an autorun.inf so the installer will automatically run when the user installs the CD.
    However I would like to have some default configuration files and an autorun.inf file that will be automatically added to the installer "volume" folder using the application builder.
    However I don't see a way to include raw files in the "volume" folder. It appears all source files in the application builder are embedded into the binary files.
    Please let me know if this is possible with the current application builder.

  • How to add class file to the project in netbean

    I am not sure if it is the right place to put the question. I just cannot find the way to add my existing java class file into the project in net bean.

    Look at the "classpath" entry on the Index tab in NB's Help. There are entries there that explain how to add existing classes and libraries to a project.

  • Importing multiple files using the Import File menu.

    For some reason I am never able to add more the 5 mp3 files using the Import File menu. All of my files are located on the NAS device and if I select the Import Folder menu all the files in the folder will be imported. However, time after time I add more files to the same folder and then need to import just the new files to iTunes. For that I am using the Import File menu. If select more then 5 files, only 5 files will be imported. Some times I have 100 new files that I want to add, and moving 5 files a time is time consuming and painful. I try opening the folder, selecting all files and dropping them into iTunes, but that did not work. Is there a way to import more than 5 files at a time, or iTunes is not capable doing that?

    I am often surprised how many ways there are to add songs to iTunes. Selecting a number in the open file dialog must have a maximum string length for the file names. I bet that the path and file name are long on those songs and that is why you can only load 5 at a time from your NAS. What I have had luck with and is very easy is to select a group of songs and right click and "play" them. My iTunes is set to import and organize on play. The first song starts playing and they all load. I routinely do this with entire albums without problem.

  • Creation of class files on the spot

    I have read in an article that a class loader (generally a subclass of the abstract class ClassLoader can load classes from the local disk, fetch them across a net using a protocol, or it can just create the byte code on the spot.
    How can a class loader create files on the spot? Or, better: why would a class loader create a class file on the spot?

    It's rare, here's an admittedly contrived example.
    You have a database table, and you'd like to create a collection of objects that mirrors the collection of rows in the table. So you collect all of the types and names of each column, and create a new Java class with getter/setter methods for these columns, along with the private member variables themselves. If this class followed the JavaBean style, you could manipulate these objects and use them dynamically using bean tools.

  • How to find the location of controller class file on the server

    Hi OAF Experts,
    We have a extended controller in which we are making some changes. We have compiled the java file.
    Now we want to deploy the .class file on the server. When we search on the server where we need to deploy the class file, we find two to three paths. Is there a way from which we can decide which path is actually referred ?
    Is there a front end page available from where we will be gettng these details??
    Regards
    Samarth

    Hi,
    You can get the complete path from front end.
    On 'About this Page', there is a section for 'Business Components'. When you expand that, you can see all the controllers used with complete path.

  • Java Newbie Question - the import statement

    Hi Geeks,
    I have a problem for importing a java .class in my project. This latter is named "Tedetis_New". Inside it, I created a "src" folder containing all the source code of the application. I import a jar file inside the parent directory of "src" (i.e. at the root of the project). Inside this jar archive, two classes (.class files) are not placed inside a package (default package according to eclipse), let's name one toto.class. So when I want to import toto.class from a file inside the src directory I simply do "import toto.class" but this statement doesn't work ! I don't manage to import my toto.class so ... what do you propose for this ?
    Thanks.

    Don't use the "default" class for anything serious;
    you can't import such a class.Er, package maybe?Yes, I was editing my reply while you replied to my reply so I couldn't

  • How to include class files in no package?

    hi,
    I have a class file in a package called
    pack.Test
    and a class file not in a package called
    Library
    When I try to use Library from within pack.Test, it says theres no such class. I have my classpath setup correctly, and the files in the correct directories.
    ie. on windows if %DIR% is the base directory then
    %DIR%\Library.java
    %DIR%\pack\Test.java
    is how they are layed out.
    Is there a way to get Library imported to pack.Test?
    thanks,

    What?!! It isn't considered legal to access a
    root-level class from a higher level package?Well it's not now because your code won't compile, but
    prior to 1.4 you could. I think the JLS has been
    updated to say you can't import from the unnamed
    namespace.Hmm! I must have missed that bit (not that I read it in any great detail, anyway!). I suppose it forces you to use packages, which is a good thing, IMHO.
    What I was wondering about was, is the directory structure of classes strictly necessary, given that a class contains information on its package anyway? I know some IDEs don't require the source files to be in the right directory - they will check on the package statement, and locate the class file accordingly - but is it absolutely necessary for class files to be located according to their directory structure? I know the JLS says they have to be, but could the JLS be relaxed on this point, without breaking anything?
