Including iPhoto's in a Word document

I have a couple of pictures in iPhoto 5.0.4 (263) which I would like to include in a Word X (Service Release 1) document.
I've tried Insert > Picture > From file ... but o no avail. I've tried both from my iPhotos in my User > Pictures > etc folder and from the same photos copied to the Desktop. In each case I get the error message "This application cannot open this file. This file is an unsupported grahic format or may be damaged. Try opening the graphic in another application".
Well, I'm stuck. They open OK in iPhoto and in preview, so how can I get them into my Word document?
They are, fortunately, still on my Nikon Coolpix 5200 camera's card so I could also attack the problem from there if needs be.
Any suggestions, one and all?
Thanks.

Hi IBozz,
i'm throwing out a guess here until someone who has done this comes along to help.
Have you tried a copy/paste?
When you go to Insert>picture>from file, is there a choice for "all formats Word can read" somewhere. it just might be set for a Word file or a bmp or something like that and that is why word says it can't open the file.

  • How can I drag multiple photos from iPhoto into a Word Document

    I'm creating a collage of photos for a friend and in order to get the photos to the right size and print them without trouble I need to drag all of the photos from a certain album in iPhoto into an empty word document. Is there a way to do this? If not, why not?

    It's best to drag one photo at a time from the open iPhoto window into the open Word document window.  Resize the photo.  Then drag the next one and resize.
    If you have iWork a better solution is to use Pages.  That way you can resize the drag the photos into any location on page, even overlapping other photos, whereas in Word it has to be on a separate line or small enought to fit two on a line. You can access the iPhoto Library from the Media Browser in Pages without iPhoto  having to be open.

  • How do I include multiple hyperlinked indices in a document and include keyword different from the word they link to?

    I would like to include multiple indices in my ID document. How do I do that? I only managed to create a single index. And how do I let an index refer to a different word than the one in the text (e.g. "car" and "plane" are in the text but their index entry is "vehicle")? And how do I turn all index entries into hyperlinks?

  • My Macbook Pro 5.5 was slow.  I backed up word and  my photos and wiped it clean.  I reinstalled  Snow leopard but my IPHOTO ILIFE is missing.  I transferred word documents over and photo library but can't find IPHOTO anywhere.  How do i get it back?

    Hi All,
    I have a Macbook Pro, 5,5.  It's a few years old and was running slow.  My son backed up my Microsoft Office documents and my photos onto a thumb drive and ran 'wiped my computer clean'...using a disc that came with my computer.  (I am NOT computer savy at all).
    I was able to reinstall the Mac OS X install DVD that came with my Mac, but IPHOTO, ILIFE did not reinstall.  I transferred the word documents successfully, and my photos transferred to an icon on a 'library' on the desktop, but I can't use.  How do i get IPHOTO back?
    Any info would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you so much for responding.  I will look for the other disks.
    One more question - I initially decided to do this because my Mac kept opening with the date changed to 2008, and I keep having to re - enter my Web key.  In addition, it was running much slower.  Since I 'cleaned' everything out, I thought all would work perfect.  This morning, the date changed to 2008; again AND it again asks for my Web key.  Does this mean my Mac has reached it's almost end or could I have a 'bug' on it?
    Again, thanks so much for your suggestions.

  • Using iPhoto shots in MS Word word documents while limiting document size.

    i am dragging and dropping some iPhoto '09 shots of plants into a Word 2008 document. 14 shots in 7 pages adds up to a ms word doc. of almost 1/4 Gig. i am not sure why the size has gotten so large - my photos are usually in the 2 to 7 meg range.
    i pulled out all the photos from the document via picture clipping and the total size is 34.8 mb. the MS Word 2008 document containing all the photos and a little text is 227 meg.
    i put one 3 meg photo in a new word test document resulting in a 34.8 meg ms word document.
    Question: how can i use my iphoto photos in a ms word document economically? i realize this is a joint iphoto/ms word question -- but i will ask here first as i get more timely and accurate answers for the mac platform.
    thanks

    thanks for the suggestions. i continued to dig around a bit and came across two ways to solve my problem that work for me. The approaches use Apple sofware, Preview and ColorSynch. The file sizes are reduce dramatically however the photo quality is also reduced. It would be nice if Apple could allow some choices on the degree of file size reduction -- in both options the file size reduction and resultant photo quality decline are fixed. Here is the summary of my finding and how to steps to use either approach. THe ColorSynch approach may be a bit superior.
    Two easy ways to reduce the file size of a MS Word .doc with photos.
    Original photo in iPhoto = 3 MB, Inserted in 1 page MS word .doc = 34.8 MB
    1. Word .doc = 34.8 MB - First step is to convert to a PDF document
    2. PDF format = 31.7 MB
    3. PDF reduced file size via Preview = 82KB see instructions below
    4. PDF reduced file via Color Synch = 181KB see instructions below
    To compress a PDF file via Preview:
    O. Convert Word doc to PDF via preview if possible - note .docx not required
    1. Open Preview, in your Applications folder.
    2. Choose File > Open, select the PDF file to compress, and then click Open.
    3. Choose File > Save As, choose Reduce File Size from the Quartz Filter pop-up menu, and choose a name and location for the new PDF file.
    4. Click Save. The file size was reduced fro 34MB to 81KB
    The compressed images will appear to be of lower quality when you view or print them.
    To compress a PDF file via Color Synch
    1. Save your document as a regular PDF file,
    2. Then use Spotlight to find an application called ColorSync Utility and drag it to dock
    3. Drag the PDF file onto the icon in the dock and new color synch doc will appear,
    4. Then select "Reduce File Size" from the Filter dropd own button at the bottom left corner of the screen.
    5. Save the file, and the size of
    6. The PDF file should have decreased. 34MB to 181KB
    The compressed images will appear to be of lower quality when you view or print them
    Based on OS 10.6.6 on a 2009 24" iMac.
    Good luck. I saw one report that at one time the ColorSynch approach could be tailored but that feature was removed in 10.6 Too bad, with tailoring, Color Synch would be good solution for most folks.

    i am sorry, i am new to mac plis

    I would certainly back up everything to an external drive, preferable a bootable clone using CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper! before installing Lion.
    You shouldn't have to reinstall yopur apps though.

  • What does 'My Passport for Mac' back-up?  Does it include my Word documents for example?

    If I lost everything, would My Passport be able to reinstate my MacBook Pro in it's entirety?
    It does not look like it contains much; therefore I am worried.
    I have lots of data on my mbp, namely, Family Tree Maker software (from Ancestry.co.uk).  It contains all my tree data, and lots and lots of Microsoft Word word-processed documents, eg, vast type-ups of Wills etc.  They take ages to translate and I would hate to lose them.  I also have lots of saved info downloaded from the net, e.g., photos and census stuff.  Whilst I can see the FTM.app, I cannot open to see whats inside.  I have 2 Trees on my software, but I can't see if they are in there for me to re-open from My Passport.
    If my whole mbp is in My Passport, I can't see it.
    If all the above are backed-up, if I change as much as a DoB on a Word document, will that document then be backed-up with the changes?
    Quite basic questions for you Apple folk, but the answers would help me and others a great deal.
    Thank you.  Helen
    My machine is: mbp, mid-2010; Mavericks. Version OS X 10.9.5.

    Depends on the backup software you use, what backup strategy you implement, and what you need to backup. Where you will start at this point also depends on what you may have already backed up to the Passport and if you are using the pre-installed Passport software.
    If you want every change you make to a document instantly backed up to the Passport, then you need the right software to do that (if it exists.) If you wish to use Time Machine that is part of OS X, then it backs up every hour but does not instantly backup a changed file. You would have to repartition and reformat the Passport in order to use Time Machine. Also, for Time Machine to work properly your Passport must be at least twice the capacity of your computer's drive. If is isn't, then you will have to decide upon a different type of software and backup strategy.

  • Bullets which include links will prevent correct copy/paste content from word document to wiki page.

    I have a word document around 20 pages which contains the following sentence (a bullet with two links):-
    Now if I remove this sentence then copy/paste the 20 pages from word to wiki page they will be pasted correctly inside the wiki page , where all the pages, bullets, etc will be mapped correctly inside the wiki page as HTML tables, bullets ,etc.
    But the problem if I kept the above sentence then the whole 20 pages will be pasted as plain text inside the wiki page.
    So can anyone advice on this ?and how I can overcome it ?

    Hi John,
    You can try this (1) Save as Word Doc as single file web page (2) Open that file in normal text editor(notepad or so) and copy all (3) Goto Wiki page edit source and paste all (4) Save it
    Let us know how it goes.
    please 'Propose as answer' if it help you, also de-mark it if it didn't. Thank you!
    the result will be as follow, not sure if this is a valid approach can you adivce ?:-

  • Create a Macro to Index a Word Document Line by Line

    Background
    I have collected a bunch of keywords and references to where I can find these words in a textbook.  I've put them into a Word document where each line is one Index beginning with the “Main Entry” followed by a colon and then the “Subentry”.  Note
    that in the "Subentry" I have included my reference in parenthesis (b1-m2).
    Example Original Text:
            Main Entry:Subentry (b1-m2)
    Example Marked for Index:
            Main Entry:Subentry (b1-m2){ XE "Main Entry:Subentry (b1-m2)" \t "" }
    When it was only a page of content it was no big deal to select the entire line and <Ctrl>+<Alt>+<x> then <Enter> down the line.  Now that I have about 500 lines of these word combinations, I need a more automated solution.
    I have searched for KB articles that explain the various elements I need, though unsuccessfully since I don’t know what I need.  I doubt I am the first person to do this, so if anyone could point me to the right documents I would greatly appreciate
    it.
    As a noob, how difficult of a task is this to automate with a Macro or some other method and should I even attempt it? I have a very short window of time to figure this out.
    Nice to have: In the final index, I don't need the Word page numbering after the term.  My references are in the parenthesis.  I know how to remove it manually in Word, when I mark the index entry: Chose Options, Cross-reference
    and remove the pre-populated text of "see". That adds  \t "" to the index reference.
    Illustrated as such:
            From: Main Entry:Subentry (b1-m2){ XE "Main Entry:Subentry (b1-m2)" }
            To:     Main Entry:Subentry (b1-m2){ XE "Main Entry:Subentry (b1-m2)" \t "" }
    My Attempt at Recording a Macro
    Having zero experience writing macro’s myself, I tried recorded a simple macro using the manual keystrokes below however the text reflected in the actual index reference does not change.  I also have to manually kick off the macro on every line of text.
    I walked through each of the steps outlined below as I was recording a macro, however when I replay the macro, the index itself contains the exact same text for every line and does not match the original text on the new line.
    I could not get the macro to repeat itself on every line.  I had to keep running it until I was done (technically, when I realized it was repeating the same text within the index reference itself) but I’d like the macro to run from beginning
    to end; line by line and then insert the Index itself at the end on a new page.
    I realize I need some kind of loop to keep the macro going line by line.
    I also need some way to mark the Main Entry within the loop (everything to the left of the colon) and then the Subentry (everything to the right of the colon to the end of the line).
    Example “Index” Macro
    Sub Index()
    ' Index Macro
        Selection.EndKey Unit:=wdLine, Extend:=wdExtend
        ActiveWindow.ActivePane.View.ShowAll = True
        ActiveDocument.Indexes.MarkEntry Range:=Selection.Range, Entry:= _
            "TV\:The Good Wife (y2014-y2015)", EntryAutoText:= _
            "TV\:The Good Wife (y2014-y2015)", CrossReference:="", _
            CrossReferenceAutoText:="", BookmarkName:="", Bold:=False, Italic:=False
        Selection.MoveRight Unit:=wdCharacter, Count:=1
    End Sub
    Manually Marking Index Entries
    Manually, here are the keystrokes I use to iterate my way through the document.
    Manual Index Marking Keyboard Combinations:
    At the beginning of the first line, press <Shift> + <End>
    This selects the entire rows text
    Then press <Ctrl> + <Shift> + <x>
    This allows me to “Mark Index Entry”
    Then press <Enter>
    This confirms the Index entry
    Then press <Esc>
    This closes the “Mark Index Entry”
    Go to the next line and repeat.
    Replacing anchor
    Once the creation of each index is complete, I need to be able to iterate through the document and find all anchor + colons (IE: \: ) and replace with colon (IE: :). This way, the “Main entry” and “Subentry” are handled properly when the Index is inserted.
    Manual Anchor Replacement Keyboard Combinations:
    At the beginning of the Word document, press <Ctrl> + <h>
    Find what:      \:
    Replace with:   :
    Then <Alt> + <a>
    Press the "Ok" button (or make replace silent somehow)
    Then press <Esc>
    This should close the "Find and Replace" screen
    Inserting Index
    Ideally, I would like the macro to create and insert the newly marked content into an index at the end of the document.
    Manually Inserting Index Keyboard Combinations:
    Press <Ctrl> + <End>
    this takes us to the bottom of the document
    Then press <Alt> + <s>
    this chooses the "References" tab
    Next press <Alt> + <x>
    this chooses "Insert Index"
    Next press <Alt> + <t>
    This should allow you to choose a "Format" option for the index
    Next press <m>
    This should chose "Modern" from the "Formats" options
    Finally, press <Enter>
    End the macro
    Example before Indexing:
              TV:The Good Wife (y2014-y2015)
              TV:Phineas and Ferb (y2011)
              TV:Curb Your Enthusiasm (y2011-y2015)
              Game:Back to the Future (y2012)
              Made for TV Movie:The Magic 7(y2009)
              Main Entry:Subentry (b1-m2)
    Example after Indexing is completed:
    The marked up text/references did not transfer over properly from the Word document I copied my question from.  I had to manually type the text within the {} brackets for illustrative purposes here:
              TV:The Good Wife (y2014-y2015){ XE "TV:The Good Wife (y2014-y2015)" }
              TV:Phineas and Ferb (y2011){ XE "TV:Phineas and Ferb (y2011)" }
              TV:Curb Your Enthusiasm (y2011-y2015){ XE "TV:Curb Your Enthusiasm (y2011-y2015)" }
              Game:Back to the Future (y2012){ XE "Game:Back to the Future (y2012)" }
              Made for TV Movie:The Magic 7(y2009){ XE "Made for TV Movie:The Magic 7(y2009)" }
              Main Entry:Subentry (b1-m2){ XE "Main Entry:Subentry (b1-m2)" }
    Example Index
    G
        Game
              Back to the Future (y2012) · 2
    M
        Made for TV Movie
              The Magic 7(y2009) · 2
        Main Entry
              Subentry (b1-m2) · 1,
    2
    T
         TV
              Curb Your Enthusiasm (y2011-y2015) · 2
              Phineas and Ferb (y2011) · 2
              The Good Wife (y2014-y2015) · 2

    Once I combined my Excel knowledge and Word knowledge, this became a piece of cake.  Sharing my solution for anyone else who may have the need.  The point of this exercise is to prepare for an open book exam and I need a quick index of my books
    (there are 6 for this class).  Anyway, here is how i solved (though slightly clunky, it works in seconds!)"
    In Excel, I pieced the text together by concatenating the indexing markup and the contents of the pertinent cells as such:
        =CONCATENATE("XE """,A2,":",B2," (b",C2,"-p",D2,")"" \t """"")
    Content from Excel (with results of concantenate statement in last column:
    Heading    Slide Title    Book    Page    Copy this into notepad then into word
    Game    Back to the Future    1    12    XE "Game:Back to the Future (b1-p12)"
    Made for TV Movie    The Magic 7    2    7    XE "Made for TV Movie:The Magic 7 (b2-p7)"
    Main Entry    Subentry    3    48    XE "Main Entry:Subentry (b3-p48)"
    TV    Curb Your Enthusiasm    4    100    XE "TV:Curb Your Enthusiasm (b4-p100)"
    TV    Phineas and Ferb    5    20    XE "TV:Phineas and Ferb (b5-p20)"
    TV    The Good Wife    6    35    XE "TV:The Good Wife (b6-p35)"
    Then I paste special the "Values" of the last column into Word.
    I run the macro below (haven't figured out how to loop yet) a few doxen times an insert the index at the bottom.
        Sub Index()
        ' Index Macro
            Selection.HomeKey Unit:=wdLine
            Selection.EndKey Unit:=wdLine, Extend:=wdExtend
            Selection.MoveLeft Unit:=wdCharacter, Count:=1, Extend:=wdExtend
            Selection.Fields.Add Range:=Selection.Range, Type:=wdFieldEmpty, _
                PreserveFormatting:=False
            Selection.EndKey Unit:=wdLine
            Selection.MoveRight Unit:=wdCharacter, Count:=1
        End Sub
    Bam; instant Index!

  • Can one generate a report in Word document using PL/SQL?

    We have a weekly status report application created in APEX, is there a way to generate a report in MS Word document (including formatting the doc) using PL/SQL by pulling data from Oracle database? Please shed some lights on this and any info and experience would be greatly appreciated.
    We use Oracle11g and apex version 3.1.1.00.09
    Thanks!

    Hi Tony,
    you are right, the NEW format isn't necessarily improved, also the user would need at least Office 2007 or higher.
    Still it is possible to do that ;-)
    And yes, there are other possibilities, but this question is dealing with Word documents (.doc i assume).
    Also my Statement "docx = XML" isn't clear enough. Docx is a zipped file which contains a xml file. Details: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Docx
    sorry for the confusions,

  • How do I generate a Word document and a PDF from Help files?

    Hi,
    I am new to RoboHelp HTML, and am using version 8.  I updated some Help files, and now I want to generate output.  Here are my questions/ or the process I used:
    To compile the help, I clicked Generate Primary Layout.  Is this correct?  I noticed that the date stamp on the xpj file has not changed.  The date is still from many months ago.  (Why is that?  Should it show a recent update date?)  However, the files that I updated do reflect the dates when I made the updates.  These include art files, an hhp, and htm, js, ldb, pss, cpd files.
    To generate a pdf, I clicked Generate PDF.  I was not able to generate the PDF at first, but then, I enabled macros in Word 2007 (Trust Center Settings > Enable all macros...and clicked the checkbox, Trust access to the VBA project object model), and clicked Generate PDF.  At the end of the generation, I got this error in Word: Microsoft Office Word has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience.  The info you were working on might be lost.  Word can try to recover it for you.  I closed the dialog and Word generated several blank documents.  Microsoft Office Diagnostics was run and found one problem and corrected it.  Despite the error message, a pdf was generated.  (If you could give me any insight on why I got the error messages, that could be helpful to know).
    How do I generate a Word document?
    Thank you!
    Erin

    Welcome to our community
    Note that RoboHelp is capable of creating a variety of layouts. WebHelp, FlashHelp, AIR Help, Microsoft HTML Help, JavaHelp, Oracle Help, ePub and more.
    Any of these layouts may be nominated as the Primary layout. So when you generate the Primary layout, you get whatever has been configured as the Primary layout.
    Only certain actions will result in a change to the .XPJ file. The actions are indicative of major changes to the project. So I wouldn't fret the fact that the date time stamp wasn't updated.
    Indeed the Printed Documentation Single Source Layout recipe is what you use to create PDF. Generally what happens is that RoboHelp creates a Microsoft Word document as an intermediate file type, then creates the PDF from that. As you might imagine, there are a host of things that can go wrong during the process. I might suggest that you first get a Word document to generate cleanly. Then once you do that, focus on PDF. I know that I typically gen a Word document and stop there. I just open Word and use Word to create the PDF.
    If you look at the properties for the Printed Documentation Single Source Layout recipe (View > Pods > Single Source Layouts then right-click the Printed Documentation layout and choose Properties) you will see that PDF, Word or both are options at the top of the dialog.
    Hopefully that gives you a nudge in the right direction.

  • How can I change a Microsoft Word document file into a picture file?

    How can I change a Microsoft Word document file into a picture or jpeg file? I am wanting to make the image I created my background on my macbook pro.

    After I had the document image the way I wanted it, I saved it as a web page and went from there. Below are the steps starting after I did the "save as" option in Word:
    1) Select "Save As Web Page". I changed the location from documents to pictures when the window came up to save it as a web page.
    2) Go to "Finder" on you main screen, or if it's on your main toolbar at the bottom.
    3) Click on the "Pictures" tab and find the file you just re-saved as a web page. (I included "web page" or something similar in the new title so I could easily find the correct file I was looking for)
    4) Open the correct file and then "right click" on the actual image. (Use 2 fingers to do so on a Mac)
    5) Select 'Use Image As Desktop Picture", and voilà! The personally created image, or whatever it is that you wanted, is now your background.
    **One problem I encountered while doing this is that the image would show up like it was right-aligned in relation to the whole screen. The only way I could figure how to fix this was to go back to the very original document in Word, (the one before it was saved as a web page), and move everything over to the left.
    I hope this helps someone else who was as frustrated as I was with something that I thought would have been very simple to do! If you have any tips or suggestions of your own, please feel free to share. : )
