Including js files in a jsp?

I'm sure this is a pretty stupid question, but it's one I've been having trouble with anyway.
The big picture problem is trying to include jquery into my website. I've downloaded it and added it to a folder (/scripts/jquery-1.3.2.js)
What I've tried to do to add it to my page is put, between </title> and </head>, <script src="/scripts/jquery-1.3.2.js" type="text/javascript"></script>.
However, when I do this it seems to take everything else on the page (the </head> all the way to the </html>) and add it into the script tag somehow, leaving my page blank.
Thanks for your time.

It should work. The problem lies somewhere else.
Maybe either the script is corrupt or your HTML is simply syntactically invalid.
Investigate script source and the generated HTML output.

    hello i have one jst who need to use an instance of a class called Part I need to include that file in my JSP but How do i do that
    How do i import my Part.java class in my JSP ???

    At the top of your JSP:
    <%@ import="package.*, package.Class" %>or you could do this:
    <%jsp:useBean class="package.Class" id="CLASS" scope="page" />or you can use a servlet as an include and have it write HTML back to the JSP:
    <jsp:include page="MyServlet">
         <jsp:param name="PARAM1" value="data1"/>
         <jsp:param name="PARAM2" value="data2"/>
    </jsp:include>

    Any kind of help will be highly appreciated.

    Hi Adam Winer,
    I want to try your solution.
    just wanted some more clarification .....
    So, let's say you have:
    DWStaticJSP.jsp: plain JSP
    report_palm.jsp: JSF JSP included by DWStaticJSP.jsp
    What you should do is use an URL of:
    /faces/DWStatic.jsp
    to access the outer plain JSP (yes, even though it's not really a faces page), and then have
    /faces/DWStatic.jsp include just plain /report_palm.jsp.
    In essence, the critical thing is that the FacesServlet wraps the entire request - FacesServlet cannot run
    for just a piece of the request.My question is where should i store the DWStatic.jsp file ... As u said i should acces it using /faces/DWStatic.jsp do i need to save it in the faces folder or just in the web app root.
    I cant save the DWStatic.jsp in the faces folder as this file is used for lot of different purpose in my company application.
    So can u give me a solution where in i can keep the DWStatic.jsp in the web-root folder and still try your solution
    Also is this the right setting for facesServlet in the web.xml.
    <servlet>
    <servlet-name>FacesServlet</servlet-name>
    <servlet-class>javax.faces.webapp.FacesServlet</servlet-class>
    <load-on-startup>1</load-on-startup>
    </servlet>
    <!-- Faces Servlet Mapping -->
    <servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>FacesServlet</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>/faces/*</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>
    Whatever follows below this line is the describtion of the web appp structure which i have in my company.
    We have an application where in all the jsp files are stored in the web-app root folder.....
    I will be using alphabets like a.jsp ... b.jsp .... to keep the explanation small...
    I have an a.jsp file which includes a b.jsp file which in turn includes a c.jsp......
    Now we have started using JSF.....
    Now as a developer .... i want the c.jsp to include a d.jsp file which contains JSF components...
    The thing is i cant change the location of a.jsp, b.jsp and c.jsp......
    Can u tell me how i should call " a.jsp" ... imean the url so that the "d.jsp" file gets processed properly.
    Also where should i save all the jsp files and what config is requiered in the web.xml for your solution
    I thank you for your help

  • Including a file in a JSP from a different application

    I have two different applications deployed in a Java Application Server 7 (their context root are "\Start" and "\Portal"). The second one uses a JSP of the first one doing like this:
    File: \Portal\index.jsp
    <%@include file="/Start/control.jsp"%>
    But I get a "File not found error" of file "\Start\control.jsp" when I call "/Portal/index.jsp" in the browser.
    On the other hand, when I call direclty that page from the browser using the URL "http://server/Start/control.jsp", this page works properly.
    I have read in JSP documentation that if you put the forward slash "/" before the name of file, the include directive uses an absolute path instead of relative path.
    According to this theory, the include directive in "/Portal/index.jsp" should find the file and copy the content into index.jsp before compilation, but it does not work.
    I have try this sample in other environments such as JRun and Tomcat and I works properly.
    Is this a specific thing of Java Application Server 7?
    Can I do something to solve this problem?
    Thanks in advance

    This would be very useful to integrate static content HTML into the JSP page from an absolute path related to the site not only to the application (the WAR file).
    But what about to include into a JSP page the content of another JSP page before the compilation into a servlet.
    I mean ...
    I have a JSP file in this path of the Web site "/Start/control.jsp" that it is deploy using the WAR file Start.war.
    I have another JSP file in this path of the Web site "/Portal/index.jsp" that it is deploy using the WAR file Portal.war.
    As we have seen, they are different applications so if I put into file "/Portal/index.jsp" the line
    <%@include file="/Start/control.jsp"%>
    , it does not work
    if I put into file "/Portal/index.jsp" the line
    <io:request url="/Start/control.jsp"/>
    , it does not work because there are some objects define in the control.jsp file (for instance, a variable called "name") that are used in the index.jsp file and in time of compilation, a line in generated with this code:
    out.write("<io:request url=\"/Start/control.jsp\"/>\r\n");
    but there is no a copy of content of control.jsp in index.jsp before trying conversion to servlet. So when compilation goes on, it produces an error because it says that the variable "name" has not been declared (and the declaration is inside control.jsp).
    That's way I need a sentence to include the code of a JSP into another JSP before compilation. A kind of concatenation of files or something similar previous to conversion and compilation to servlet.

  • How to include HTML file in JSP using HTML elements or Javascript?

    Hi,
    I have around 15000 static html files one for each item which we display each upon invoking an item.The HTML file should be part of a JSP file.
    Please note that the name of the HTML file is determined dynamically
    Placing all the HTML files within the web application does not give us good performance so i would like to put all of them in the webserver.
    I am not able to include the file in the JSP using the jsp:include attribute if i place the HTML files in the webserver ,
    in order to do that i think should use either HTML element or javascript to include the HTML in the JSP.is there any alternative to <Jsp:include>
    Does anyone have an idea how to include the HTML file and take advan tage of webserver?
    Any ideas are appreciated

    What you need to do is simply read the HTML file from the disk and dump it out to the outputstream. It really is that simple.
    There's no reason you need to include all 15000 files in the actual WAR, you can place those files any place handy that is easy for the application to see (in another directory, or accessible from a file server if you have multiple front ends).
    Then, just write a utiility function that takes the output stream (i.e. the 'out' JSP variable), and the file name, read the file, and write it to the stream.
    If you start noticing performance issues, then you can try doing some caching, but truth is your OS should be doing that for you.
    But, truth be told that's the only practical way to do it.
    Another solution would be to use JavaScriipt and XMLHttpRequest (i.e "AJAX") to load the file at the client side, and simply replace a tag with the results.
    That's also pretty trivial to write, any web site talking about AJAX should give you hint there.
    Of course, that won't work for folks who have JavaScript turned off, or some other incompatible browser, whereas the server side solution obviously works everywhere.

  • Include .PDF file in JSP

    Am I able to include .pdf file in a .jsp page? If it is yes, how to do it?

    Not directly, no.
    You use HTML to include it as a seperate html frame/iframe, but nothing specific to JSP will help here.

  • How to include .js file in jsp file?

    hi,
    i have a jsp file with struts tag. right now i have all the javascript code as a separate function inside the jsp file itself. i want the javascript code to be present in a .js file and i want to refer that .js file from the jsp file with struts tags.
    <html:text property="Phone" value="" size="3" maxlength="3"
         onkeyup="return autoTab(this, 3, event);"></html:text>
    the above is the html tag which will call the function "autoTab" of the .js file. please help.
    thanks,
    Jayanth.

    You include javascript into a jsp in exactly the same way you do with html
    <script src="myJavascriptFile.js"/>
    It has nothing to do with the jsp per se, but rather the generated HTML page.

  • How to include a file in jsp!

    I need dynamic inlude a jsp file by use inlude file B

    Use
    <%@ include file="file.jsp" %>
    which works at translation time so your file can be a jsp file or use
    <jsp:include page="relative url" flush="true" />
    which works at request time so the file can't contain JSP.

  • How to include external files in JSP

    hi,
    How to include external files like image or javascript in to jsp pages.
    I am using MVC frame work. So i have to use request dispatcher. While calling the pages trough dispatcher the external files are missing from the output. Also am using tomcat as server,web.xml(deployment descriptor ) is also configured.
    regards
    sree

    When you use the request dispatcher, the relative path for all your ressources becomes the relative path of your calling serlvet and not the JSP/servlet that you call. Make sure to use the full relative path such as:
    /PATH_TO_YOUR_DIRECTORY/myRessource.ext
    NOT
    SOME_DIRECTORY/myRessource.ext

  • How to include .css file into jsp file in portal application

    Hi,
    I have included a .css file in a .jsp file using following tag :
    <link rel="<%=componentRequest.getWebResourcePath()%>/css/ts.css">.
    I have kept .css file under /dist/css folder.
    Preview of jsp file is fine but when I upload the jsp file and .css file to server, Look and feel of the screen is changing. When I paste the style code in jsp file, look and feel is fine.
    Can some body suggest me that why the look and feel is changing when I put the style code in css file and include it in jsp.
    Thanks in advance.
    Manish

  • How to include CSS file in JSP

    Hi Experts,
    CSS file availabe in server. I need user that CSS in one of PDK application.
    Example: "/usr/sap/ED1/JC03/j2ee/cluster/server0/apps/sap.com/irj/servlet_jsp/irj/root/portalapps/style1.css"
    I need to include this in one of JSP file.
    Regards,
    Satya.

    You would have to place the file in the project folder of your PDK application and give a relative or absolute path to it.
    <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="path_to_your_css_file" />
    Thanks,

              I'd like know if it´s possible to include jsp or servlet from different applications.

              Thanks Deepak but I think you don´t understand me.
              I would like the include works like a normal include. I have a jsp in my application
              and , when the client requests this jsp, in the jsp should be added the result
              of the other jsp ejecution that belong to other application in the same domain.
              Is this possible?
              Thank you very much.

  • Include Graph / Chart in a jsp file

    How we can include the Graph in a jsp file?

    You probably wouldn't. More likely, you'd have an <IMG> tag or the like, whose source would point to a servlet (assuming that the chart/graph has to be generated by Java code).
