Include .PDF file in JSP
Am I able to include .pdf file in a .jsp page? If it is yes, how to do it?
Not directly, no.
You use HTML to include it as a seperate html frame/iframe, but nothing specific to JSP will help here.

How to display a pdf file in jsp
hi,
How to display a pdf file in jsp iam having a class which will return fileinputstream of the file object. the pdf file is in server.
regards
ArulA JSP is a combo of HTML and Java, so you can't really "display" a PDF file in a JSP.
You can provider a href link to the PDF file in your JSP.
You can use some utility package to read the contents of the PDF, pull certain things out of it, and display that in your JSP as html
In a servlet you can set the content type to application/pdf and write the binary data of the PDF back to the browser. Once the browser finishes reading in the data it should open the PDF. -

Security error while loading pdf file in jsp in firefox?
When i type in the following link manually in firefox as " file://///172.16.2.1/copyediting/ELS/mallet.pdf", pdf file is loaded successfully in the firefox browser. PDF file is located in remote server which is referred by IP 172.16.2.1.
I've assigned the Same link in a String in jsp page and tested it through my tomcat application as
<%
String linktotest="file://///172.16.2.1/copyediting/ELS/mallet.pdf";
%>
<a href="<%=linktotest%>">link</a>
when i click on the hyperlink , the pdf is not loaded in firefox and i'm getting the following error in firefox error console
Security Error: Content at http://172.16.3.222:8080/FMS/source/journal/ProductionEntry.jsp may not load or link to file://///172.16.2.1/copyediting/ELS/mallet.pdf
can any one please give me the solution.Links and forms in HTML should point to public URL´s (with http:// or https:// protocol), not to the file system (with file://).
If those files are not public accessible by URL, then you need to create a servlet which does the file streaming task. This example may be useful then: [http://balusc.blogspot.com/2007/07/fileservlet.html]. -
How to include .js file in jsp file?
hi,
i have a jsp file with struts tag. right now i have all the javascript code as a separate function inside the jsp file itself. i want the javascript code to be present in a .js file and i want to refer that .js file from the jsp file with struts tags.
<html:text property="Phone" value="" size="3" maxlength="3"
onkeyup="return autoTab(this, 3, event);"></html:text>
the above is the html tag which will call the function "autoTab" of the .js file. please help.
thanks,
Jayanth. You include javascript into a jsp in exactly the same way you do with html
<script src="myJavascriptFile.js"/>
It has nothing to do with the jsp per se, but rather the generated HTML page. -
hi all,
we have a very simple requirement. A pdf file resides on the server. We want to have a link inside the jsp page, so when the user clicks the link the pdf file opens inside the browser.
Using pure html the simple code is:
<a href = "/document.pdf">Document</a>when the user clicks above link, the pdf file opens inside the browser.
The above code does NOT work for jsp.
Can someone assist us.
thanks
TrajanoThe following HTML will open a PDF:
PDF Link
Thats all you need to add to your page.
The only point I am making is that JSP pages are a mix of Java and HTML. The one of the main functions of jsp is to generate HTML dynamically. You just need to make sure that that snippet of HTML, is output to the browser as such, so in jsp, java is de-limited by the opening and closing tags <% and %>.
Everything outside of these tags is considered HTML (or possibly javaScript). Just put your link outside these tags at the relevant point.
If you are within the tags, you can still write HTML to the browser with out .print(); :
<% out.print("<a href="01_delins_IG.pdf">PDF Link</a> "); %>
The following would write the link twice, first using java to write to the screen, the second in plain HTML outside the java tags.
<% out.print("<a href="01_delins_IG.pdf">PDF Link</a> "); %>

How to include HTML file in JSP using HTML elements or Javascript?
Hi,
I have around 15000 static html files one for each item which we display each upon invoking an item. The HTML file should be part of a JSP file.
Please note that the name of the HTML file is determined dynamically
Placing all the HTML files within the web application does not give us good performance so i would like to put all of them in the webserver.
I am not able to include the file in the JSP using the jsp:include attribute if i place the HTML files in the webserver ,
in order to do that i think should use either HTML element or javascript to include the HTML in the JSP.is there any alternative to <Jsp:include>
Does anyone have an idea how to include the HTML file and take advan tage of webserver?
Any ideas are appreciatedWhat you need to do is simply read the HTML file from the disk and dump it out to the outputstream. It really is that simple.
There's no reason you need to include all 15000 files in the actual WAR, you can place those files any place handy that is easy for the application to see (in another directory, or accessible from a file server if you have multiple front ends).
Then, just write a utiility function that takes the output stream (i.e. the 'out' JSP variable), and the file name, read the file, and write it to the stream.
If you start noticing performance issues, then you can try doing some caching, but truth is your OS should be doing that for you.
But, truth be told that's the only practical way to do it.
Another solution would be to use JavaScriipt and XMLHttpRequest (i.e "AJAX") to load the file at the client side, and simply replace a tag with the results.
That's also pretty trivial to write, any web site talking about AJAX should give you hint there.
Of course, that won't work for folks who have JavaScript turned off, or some other incompatible browser, whereas the server side solution obviously works everywhere. -
How to include external files in JSP
hi,
How to include external files like image or javascript in to jsp pages.
I am using MVC frame work. So i have to use request dispatcher. While calling the pages trough dispatcher the external files are missing from the output. Also am using tomcat as server, web.xml(deployment descriptor ) is also configured.
regards
sreeWhen you use the request dispatcher, the relative path for all your ressources becomes the relative path of your calling serlvet and not the JSP/servlet that you call. Make sure to use the full relative path such as:
/PATH_TO_YOUR_DIRECTORY/myRessource.ext
NOT
SOME_DIRECTORY/myRessource.ext

Include PDF file in a SAPscript Form
Here is a good one. Anyone ever heard of this. I need to somehow import a PDF file into an ABAP program and include it in a sapscript form.
Requirment:
Customer sends a PDF file to our system. We need to take this PDF file and include into a "quote" sapscript form and fax it back to the customer.
If anyone has any other ideas of how I can accomplish this task........PLEASE let me know. Thanks.
Regards,
Rich Heilmani solved a similiar problem by following:
- catch the sapsript-data in otf-format by setting
itcpo-tdgetotf = 'X' at CALL FUNCTION 'OPEN_FORM'
- read the pdf-file from it's source
(i.e. content server)in an internal table
- send the fax with function-module SO_DOCUMENT_SEND_API1.
at least in 4.6c you can add attachements to the fax.
the fax-body is the otf, the attachements are
the pdf-files.
i suppose that your fax-software is able to send the pdf-attachements.
here is some coding i copied from my program. i simplified it to show the main steps, so it won't run immediatly. the form assumes that the otf is filled in table ZT_OTFDATE, the pdf in ZT_PDFDATA and the PDF-filesize is in Z_PDFSIZE.

Problem viewing PDF File in JSP
Hi,
I have the file location of a PDF saved in the database.
If I modify the PDF file on my directory and then try to view it in my browser, it still shows the old file .. (I do not modify the pdf file name)
However, when I close my browser and reopen it, it shows up okay. this looks like a browser level problem but can someone give me an idea on how I can solve this problem within my JSP...
Here is some code to view the file
<a href="<%= response.encodeURL(fileLocation) %>"><%= binderName + ".pdf" %></a>
Thanks,
YasirThe problem you are having is a browser cache issue. If you open the same URL, the browser is trying to save you time by giving you what it got last time. The trick is to make the URL different each time it is opened. Just append a hash or some other unique code:
Instead of:
http://myserver/pdfMakerServlet/newpdf.pdf
Use this:
http://myserver/pdfMakerServlet/newpdf.pdf&012345
If the URL is different each time, the browser will ask the server again for the file.
Does this help? -

Generating pdf file through jsp/servlet
One of the MIME types for servlets/JSP response is "application/pdf".
After setting Content-Type header "application/pdf" in servlet by
setContentType() method, I am unable to get the output in a pdf file.
Please let me know how I can generate a pdf file through Servelt/JSP
response.
Thanks. We've got a product which allows you to convert XML to PDF from a JSP. It doesn't currently take straight HTML, but the XML syntax we use is pretty similar (you can use CSS2 and so on), so for many pages it doesn't take a lot of conversion.
If you check out http://big.faceless.org/products/report/examples.jsp you'll see a few examples, two of which are dynamically run from a JSP. There's a free trial download for you to test with (although it's a commercial product).
Hope that helps.

Can I synchronize all iBooks documents (including pdf files of my own) using iCloud?
It looks impossible to sync iBook files between devices using iCloud. It works for iBook files bought at iTunes, but not for pdf files of my own. It should work the same as for emails, note's, foto's and other stuff that is synchronized using iCloud. Any suggestions besides using other cloud storage?
